It was quite an experience. The response times and communication were great on Yelp. Things quickly declined after that. Carlos, the painter who actually lead the work, did an excellent job. He does not speak English and uses a coworker to translate. There is a lot to be desired in this respect. For example, we set a time for 2pm to begin the work. The crew showed up at 3:30pm without any heads up. My expectations for how the job would progress did not match what happened. After having quotes from three different painters, we decided to hire Army Painting. They had the best price and made sure that every wall got coated twice. Jose and his crew let us know what time they would arrive the morning of and followed up via email the next day as well (was a two-day job). As for quality of work, the lines look great, no globs on the wall, and they did a great job cleaning everything up afterwards. Called Army painting after being referred by a friend. Juan came promptly to survey the exterior that needed the repainting and sent an estimate shortly thereafter. The price was quite competitive and much more reasonable than a few others within the area. The Bay Area premium is a real thing. He was gracious enough to include some stucco wall retainers that needed some highlighting when I asked after the initial estimate. After settling on Army and requesting a date, communication was not optimal but I can't say it was just 1 sided. Being busy and traveling, it was hard to get things across but Juan did his best and rectified any miscommunication that was present. I consider this much better business practice and grateful that he took the time to listen to my concerns about the start date and completion of the project during a busy summer. Once the job started, he was available by phone and text, answered questions along the way and assured me of the work while being done at rising temps. The staff and crew present were courteous, didn't make a mess, took all the precautions necessary to avoid mishaps, and honestly, we barely could hear them working when I was there for a few mins. They worked safely at the higher, more difficult places and always soft spoken and quiet while working. With some neighbors, I was concerned noise would be a problem! After completion of the project, Juan took me on a check out tour, described the work done, including replacement of some rotting window wood frames that were replaced or sanded down, resealing of all the joints with caulking, and the double coats of paint. My wife, the perfectionist, found spots she thought could need some touch up and Juan promptly had guys over to address her concerns. Clean up was almost perfect, but much of it was replacement of stuff near or on the walls that had to wait for the paint to dry.
