Still finishing the last touches on our house, and this review is in line with many other reviews before ours. I can't say enough about Tim's crew of painters as they were wonderful and professional. With our house in an HOA, Tim guided us through color selections, and possible issues that may have arisen, but none did. The crew was at work timely, and cleaned up on a daily basis keeping all equipment stacked and ready to go the following day. It was a huge job: two-story house, decorative landscaping walls, shutter replacement, front door refinished, stained, lacquered and wrought iron fence painting. Kudos to Tim and his crew making the house look years younger. One would be hard pressed finding a finer paint job than by Davey Painting. read more

BRAKELIGHT WARRANTY The foregoing statements are facts based on documented emails, texts, photo and video surveillance of false verbal promises made to us and all admissible. We are not difficult people to deal with and we deal with various contractors in various trades each month for both our 11 rentals as well as work on our primary residence. We have never experienced such unprofessionalism by the owner of a company such as Tim Davey Painting. He is the owner of his company and he can run it the way he see fit, but we just don't want anyone else to fall for his false promises and under performance. We found Davey Painting through Sherman Williams Morgan Hill. Tim said that he wasn't the cheapest, but the best. You know, the usual BS you get from a conman contractor. After a couple of texts and sales calls in which his texts and promises said one thing and then he changed his stories I began to smell a rat, aka, a walking talking narcissistic salesman who doesn't listen. Even before they started and I told my wife that my gut was telling me that I didn't want to deal with him and I wanted to cancel and get my $700 deposit back. On video surveillance camera it records him hemming and hawing and in response he said he had a sick feeling. Based on other reviews it obvious that I'm not the only one he's done this to. My wife was adamant about getting the house painted before winter and I told him to deal with my wife on this job, so my wife took over. Even though he was recorded on our security cameras he falsely claimed that he said he wanted to cancel. ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR GUT. In my research D&B claims that he only has 2 employees, but 4-6 guys showed up, with ONLY ONE who could spoke English, so I had to communicate to them in Spanish. I appeared that he found them at a Home Depot parking lot. He sent us a several references and most were houses that were up for sale or rentals that needed lipstick on a pig. I also noticed that he operates out of a UPS postal center and has no physical address. This makes it difficult for the IRS and plaintiffs to serve them when you can't locate them. However, we found his primary residence. My wife proceeded forward with the job and we signed the joke of a contract he gave us. In the end we found that he had promised and under delivered in only 3 days, after quoting 4-6 days. Usually preparation takes the longest and it was done in one day. Not sure if the Elastomeric priming was done over the micro-cracks as per the joke of a contract he writes up. On the third days as the sun set he demanded final payment before his guys were even finished and we weren't able to inspect the job in the dark and we had to catch a flight the next day. You can still see many of these micro cracks, runs, overspray, and missed areas even after we pointed these out several times both before, during and after and even took photos of over 28 areas that they missed, such as the shutters that still have over spray, and dry rot that wasn't patched and painted correctly, areas that were not sanded down prior, outlets painted over and others not, runs, drips, and complete areas that weren't even painted next to the front door, all which he said would be corrected. Still to this day they have not been taken care of even after sending his guys out twice to address the areas we pointed out. It's apparent that he pulled them away from completing our house as they literally dropped everything and left gates open, water running and items not moved back. In the end we found that the poor workmanship was basically a "Spray and Pray" rush job with no attention to detail or quality control. He demanded the last installment payment, even though he knew they were not done. After several texts about the missed areas his guys came by twice to attempt to finish up, but just went through the motions. He knew that we had no leverage once he had our money and his attitude changed. He informed us that we were harassing him; however, texting a contractor about completing a job that they are contractually obligated to complete is not considered harassment under the eyes of the law. He told us not to contact him again and to patch and paint the rest ourselves, which is a breach of contact. In the end he claimed to a perfectionist, but reality he is far from it. We don't think that we were asking too much to have them come back and complete the job that he promised. We wouldn't be so upset if Tim's hadn't over sold his company's quality. Tim's talk is cheap and his poor attitude and his workmanship is a joke. In this town you don't upset customers, because word spreads like wild fire as we know a lot of folks. It also brings bad Karma. So far I have deferred at least 6 prospective customers away from Davey and over to other painters who I know will do a much better job and are more professional. read more

The house required quite a bit of work trying to remove the ivy feet prior to painting. They did an exceptional job and were priced fairly. I'd say Davey Painting did an overall great job! My girlfriend and I recently purchased a fairly older house and it had the dreaded "popcorn ceiling" throughout the whole house excluding the kitchen and bathrooms. "Popcorn ceiling" is fairly out of style nowadays and we really wanted it gone asap. That's when Davey Painting came to the rescue, they removed all the popcorn, retextured the ceiling and painted it with fresh paint. On top of that, they also repainted the cabinet drawers in the bathrooms. We were surprised with how fast they were able it get it all done. In one day they were able to remove the popcorn and apply texture in 3 rooms, the living room, and the dining room! We for sure thought that was a two day process but they got it all done in one. After a weekend to let it all dry they came in on Monday morning and painted everything. Then with the bathroom cabinets, they were able to completely paint all of those in one day also! One particular point that I was impressed with is how early they came to get started. They stated they'd be there at 7am on Monday and they ended up getting there at 6:30am. I'm big on being early to any project or occasion so for them to show up early, ready to go was a big plus for me. Now it may not be a huge positive to some people but I truly appreciated them for being early/on time. Now the only "con" I can think of is that one of hallway light fixtures was not reassembled after they removed it and taped it off. Not a huge deal breaker for us since we were planning to replace that fixture anyways but the fact is that it wasn't put back. Also the air vents in 2 of the rooms and 3 smoke alarms were not reinstalled back on the ceiling. Now the vents and the smoke alarms were not a huge deal breaker for me, I was able to quickly put them all back in 10 minutes but maybe a client in the future might not like the idea that they have to reinstall those pieces after everything was done. My only guess is that the painters couldn't put the vents and smoke alarms back because it was still wet, which is totally understandable. Again I won't knock a star off for that but a potential future client might be upset. Overall we were very happy with them, they had good communication with us, and they got the job done quickly and efficiently. We chose Tim Davey for his extensive experience in the business (Tim's dad started the company 30 years ago) which was clear when he reviewed the needs of our exterior paint job. We were very happy with Tim's management of the job, his crew, the quote, and the end result. As in any job, there were challenges, a 12 pitch roof with a painted chimney ,working with a contractor who was replacing our rafter tails, and avoiding getting paint spray on the new solar panels. Tim and his team patched up that bad stucco work and made it look much better. They proceeded to do an amazing job scraping off old paint, sanding and power washing. They even treated a few areas for mold. Once the new paint was applied our 85 year old house looked amazing. Is seems like some people have a problem with down payments and progress payments. I do not have any problem at all with that. The payments and schedule were very reasonable. And final payment was not scheduled until completion of the job. I had a very poor experience with Davey painting, and would give negative stars if I could. After spending tens of thousands of dollars on two bathroom remodels, when it was time to paint the walls, Davey painting really let me down. At the time of the estimate, I was promised a couple guys who would come finish the small job in a half a day. The price was the same as all the other quotes, and Tim seemed trustworthy. The one contractor who showed up was absolutely not a painter, certainly unskilled in interior painting, and should not have been working on his own. Not only that, he tried to do both bathrooms simultaneously, and they turned out terribly. On the first day, I called Tim mid-job to inform the paint was forming droplets on the wall, and should I quickly correct myself before it dried, and he said no, assuring me it would look fine in the end. I shouldn't have listened because now there are dried droplet marks on the wall. By the end of the second day, the crown molding was so uneven. My beautiful new tile and grout had paint over it. I only got one coat--and I admit we never discussed number of coats at the time of estimate because I thought it was a given, maybe I'm wrong--which is already chipping through, but it was patchy to begin with. The contractor totally should have used blue tape and done one bathroom at at time, with another person more experienced there with them. By the end of the second day I had to call and threaten to hire someone else, unless he or someone else fixed it the next morning. After all that, Tim had wanted me to wait till the afternoon again, again after another job, or let the same guy keep trying. Someone qualified and skilled came to fix it on the third day, in the morning--his foreman. He fixed it as much as he could and his work was beautiful, but at the end of that day I was out of time, as new vendors were on the way on what would have been the fourth day. I thought it was satisfactory enough, but over the holidays, my guests wondered why the paint looked so bad, and I'm upset that I really do have to hire another company to come fix. Tim gave me a 23% percent discount, but it still looks so bad, I have to pay to have it re-done. read more

I had a great experience with Davey Painting. I reached out via Yelp. They responded quickly and scheduled an appt of a free in person estimate. He came out to the house and he gave me some ideas and send me a quote that night. I had received two other quotes, one lower and one higher, so i knew his quote was reasonable. When he first came to the house he was professional, clean, well dressed (not saying coming dressed with your painter clothes full of paint is bad or negative ). The painting job was very clean. And the work on trim was just beautiful. Props to the employee who painted all the trim because he definelty took his time for perfection. Only negative was after the final walk though, we requested a missed trim to be painted. I was advised they would come three days later but they didnt show up then it was a week later but no show up. And it took them two or three weeks to come back. However, im not taking any stars off because I understand once they move on to a new project it is difficult to return. So I understand that. I don't like using Yelp anymore, but I'm all about recognizing good service if it's outstanding and the hardworking individuals deserve it. We needed our kitchen walls painted (dingy, ugly buttercream color, poor drywall patch job, mysterious water stain on the ceiling...) and it was done in one day... about 4 hours. This was very important to us since we have a baby at home and we wanted to minimize any disruptions in our daily routine as possible. We'd just installed new hardwood floors and were worried about paint stains, but they prepped the area and left nothing behind that would indicate a poor paint job. He quoted a bit more than others, but with their years of experience, cleanliness and detail to attention... it was worth EVERY PENNY. Tim Davey's work is legit! We contracted him to paint our kitchen. He came right at 7am ready to go and also was accommodating with using certain entry ways and blocking off certain areas so the paint and dust doesn't come through the rest of the house. Even at 7am Tim was jovial and energetic which I appreciate. They cleaned up after the project and you can't even tell that they were here. Tim had mentioned that the project would be 4-5 hours and he finished right at that time which I appreciate since it was a Sunday and I wanted to spend time with famiIy.
