So my sprinkler timer went out months ago, and I do mean many months ago. Thank God we had lots of rain or my lawn would be badly parched.
When it initially konked out I did what every other imp with half a brain would do, I went to HomeDepot. But Home Depot only had 3 models which only one looked like the one I had, but I tried three of the same model and none of them worked properly.
No one at Home Depot could give me a straight answer much less correct advise. The problem is the model number was no longer on the timer because it was so old, the paper label with the model number wore out.
Anyway once I figured out that the Home Depot employees are probably DeVry Grads, I decided to call the tech department of Intermatic, the company which manufactures the timers.
Once I explained to the dude on the phone my sprinkler setup and that it draws from a lake, he immediately knew which model I needed.
I checked Amazon and it was about $95, so I decided to see if I could get it locally, thats when I found Ace Pump and Supply(APS).
APS had it for $117.20 online, even better they were only 10 minutes away. But when I arrived it was a whole different story.
Once I told dude behind the counter which model I needed, he went and retrieved the model and started typing a bunch of mumbo jumbo on the computer, then he said $137.00.
As of note, there's no price tag on the unit.
I was like Que¿, so I said, "why does your website say $117.00"? Not only that but all of the online prices are plus or minus $100.
Dude started fumbling over his words and then said the extra $20 is for shipping. Shipping???????, Que¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿
I started to wonder if this DeVry grad thinks I'm a DeVry grad?
So I said, "dude, it cost $20 for you to hand it to me across the counter?
Dude kept bumbling over his words.
I just walked out, and some other dude who was licking his fingers after eating some kind of fodder swiftly took the timer off the counter.
I called when I left and asked to talk to a manager, but I know the girl on the phone just funneled me to the same jag-offs at the counter. The Jag-off pretending to be the manager told me their prices go up and down in the store and its better to order online lolol.
I'll tell you what's going on, they don't have set prices, so they price their products depending on how you look. Some Car Dealer Auto Part Departments do it too.
So anyway I searched for another irrigation supply store and I found SiteOne Landscape Supply in Dania Beach. I bought my timer there for $95 plus tax, I went home and now my sprinklers are working. read more
