I purchased a dryer vent cleaning system, and the first time we used it. It broke. I didn't have the receipt, brought it back... And they wouldn't give me in-store credit for it. Would rather go to Home Depot than be treated like this! Never again. read more

Went to Ace Hardware in Hoffman Estates yesterday(7/17/2025) and the store was closed. No sign. No people. Nothing.

I'm always impressed with the manager Mike and his team! Especially Anthony and Steve aka The Marine (thanks for your service) We relocated last March and since day one the team here has been extremely helpful, patient and knowledgeable. I'm always greeted within 30 seconds and asked if I need help with my project and guided to the right direction. We are new to the weather here in Illinois and Anthony has always assisted with weather proofing, salt n more along with Steve who assisted with replacing my custom frame and screens when all other big boxes stated I needed to purchase new. No gimmicks here at Ace in Hoffman Estates. There's always deals and you pay for what you get- GREAT 5 star service! PAT AND RED are awesome, they are very polite knowledgeable And accommodating. They helped me find my supplies in the store quickly. I was rushing back to the store to return the excess supplies (some ace hardware are individually owned and can only accept returns where bought) And when i arrived at the store 1 min after closing they opened the doors and allowed me to return my excess supplies. I used to be a very frequent customer, 3+ times per week, however I refuse to set foot in this location any more. There inventory control is disastrous. There are many empty shelf spaces, and I was frequently leaving frustrated and empty handed. The last time I was there they had a sale tag on a shelf for a particular item. When I went to check out it rang up for substantially more. They asked if I still wanted it. I said only for the sale price displayed on the shelf. They asked me to show them where it was. I showed a clerk (annil?) the sale tag. He pointed out an expiration date in very fine print. The clerk argued with and belittled me when I pointed out their abysmal inventory control. I had such a positive experience at this store! Went in to look at a specific grill and hopefully purchase it. Was greeted by a female employee (sorry to have forgotten her name) soon after walking in. She was very pleasant and helpful in trying to locate it (wasn't on the floor). The manager Henry quickly checked inventory in back, found one, and "sealed the deal" on my purchase, assuring me it would be assembled and delivered within 3-4 days. Checkout with Claudia was also super personable and nice! Went in again just hours before the delivery to purchase the propane tank. Henry greeted me with a big smile, introduced me to Steve, who'd assembled the grill (was relieved to see he looked like someone who knew what he was doing), and then took me to see my grill that would soon be delivered (I didn't request this). Next, he made a point to introduce me to the owner Mike, and let me know they'd be the ones delivering my grill. Delivery a short time later went great! Thank you to the team at Ace that made this such a positive experience from start to finish! ***I'd seen some of the negative reviews from the past and was initially hesitant to shop here. I love to support small local business but every time I come to this Ace, they are missing the items I need. Shelves are empty and very unfriendly people. Had to track down help and found two young men in the back of the store chatting in the corner. Asked where an item was, and they told me to look in another aisle. Really ? Show me where it is. Spoke to the manager about not finding items I need on every visit and empty shelves, he said " supply chain issues". No apology or anything. If I could give this business 0 stars, I would. I was in the area looking for a Ego Edger. I went in the the store, no one spoke at all. Let me refresh, No on else was in the store(so that was a sign). I proceeded to find the item. I was in the store about 10 minutes and no one came and ask if I needed help. Then, when I decided to go toward the register, someone walked in and walked passed me and an employee came out of nowhere and said " My I help you". I went to this local ACE in Hoffman Estates to pickup my online order on Saturday night. The owner told me someone already picked it up. They showed me the paper work with a signature that was not from me and didn't want to take the responsibilities to refund me. I contacted ACE support and they couldn't help for situations like it because each store is independently owned and operated according to the response. If you want to purchase any hardware, make sure go to home depot, Lowes, etc.. Do not go to ACE Hardware. read more

This store's customer service is bad. Believe what you have read on here cause it is true. One employee in particular " Lloyd" does not want to assist you with any questions. As a matter of fact, no one here does. They pass you along to the next person until there is no one to pass you off too( that's how I ended up with Lloyd). I love supporting local and small businesses, but I'm pretty sure this business does not want a person of color in their store by how the employees treat you. I went into the store at 7:55 pm knowing they close at 8:00 pm. I knew what I needed, just a couple of bolts. I wrote down what I needed and brought samples with me to make sure of threading, sizing, etc. A staff member decided to "help" me to make the process quicker. Technically, I didn't need the help, but I welcomed it. In the process of helping me, he confused himself and got frustrated. Then, he lectured me that "coming 5 minutes before closing for a bag of charcoal is fine, but coming in with a conundrum like this is not." Walked in to get a copy of a chip car key made and Mike is WONDERFUL!! He gave me the option of 2 keys, a copy of just the key or the chip. I needed the chip because I am getting a remote starter installed. Mike cut the key, came to my car and programmed the key, while doing so we engaged in some small talk. This is what is missing in these bigger stores, felt like I was talking with a life long friend. After the programming of the key he tested it multiple times to ensure it was working properly. When I said "I'm looking for a few items in your flyer and can't find any of them" he says "Well then we probably don't have them". Well that's not helpful! New store, very clean and organized. I've been there 2 times already in the past 2 weeks and no one even asks to help you out. I was there during the day and everyone seem to be chatting among themselves. The ACE I used to go to on Nerge in Schaumburg had amazing service. I went there for a car key and had such a bad expirence. They ordered the wrong key. Then when they ordered the right one they cut it wrong. I was waiting at the store for 2 hours when they cut it. I would give a minus if that was an option.Brought my screen door in to be rescreened on Friday and Bob said it wouldn't be done until Monday even though on the phone he said he could do it that afternoon. Picked it up Monday and brought it home and put it in the track. Extremely sloppy job. The frame was all scratched up and along the edge inside where the screen was attached to the frame was also scratched up. I was having a hard time closing the screen, it was dragging. At first I thought it was the rollers/wheels so I brought it back to Ace cause I could hardly open & close the door. I talked to Steve I, who was extremely helpful. He even looked up the door online at Lowes (that's where I bought the door) to see if they had replacement screen doors in case Ace needed to buy me a new door to make it right since it was damaged. Steve had great customer service skills. The next morning Bob called & didn't take any responsibility for what he did. Bob said Mike the owner would give me 15% off my next purchase. I said are you kidding me, I will never buy anything from this store again. I was so angry on the phone Bob said he would have Mike the owner call me. He didn't call me so I had to call him. He claimed he helped Bob with the rescreening even though Bob told me he did it himself. He was very rude on the phone. Mike also offered 15% off my next purchase. I told him I wanted a refund, I came back to the store & the manager couldn't figure out how to credit my Visa. I had to go back an hour and a half later after the owner's daughter told the manager how to issue the credit. I was credited the $80 but still have a damaged screen door. Ace should replace my door since they damaged my door just as Steve mentioned would have been the right thing to do unlike the conversations I had with Bob & Mike the owner who lack in customer service skills.
