Alex was quick to get us a quote, and was very responsive. We got exactly what we wanted, an extended patio for our grill/smoker. It was a competitive price. We filled in the gap between the slab and fence with river rock! * 4.5 stars if that was an option. Had to do some minor cleaning up after they left.

ACE Concrete Review Point of Contact: Alex Moya Jr. Main goals needed: Patio (2 levels with stairs), slab for trash bins, driveway extension I was originally contacted by Alex with Ace Contractors (Ace Concrete) via Yelp. It was not the best start. There was some missed communication, missed appointments. We ended up meeting in person because he did apologize for the missed appointments. He explained why it happened I I appreciated his honesty. But due to the overall situation I actually chose not to go with his company. However, some thing took place and the contractor I did end up going with talked a high game and couldn't own up to what was being requested. I can be an easy going person if the communication is there but once you start ghosting me, there is a much more by the books kind of guy (some would say douche-like). With that being said, I fired the contractor and reached back out to Alex. He was willing to take on my project. Now this is where the rollercoaster began. He was patient while waiting for me to re-route my irrigation which took maybe two weeks. Once the project finally got started, we sent over a drawing with some notes (my first mistake was not removing some of the irrigation notes), he sent us over a proposal (my second mistake was not fully reviewing his scope on the proposal). I would say his mistake was not addressing the notes I'm the drawing we sent over but since I failed to properly review his proposal, a change order was needed. The next hurdle of miscommunication was the lower level of the patio was (notated in the drawing) to be level with the AC pad. We discussed this verbally and he hadentioned due to grading issues the lower level needed to be higher than the AC pad. During this talk, I agreed. Then my dead brain cells kicked in and said something that came off as sneaky and underhanded (I deeply apologize for that). However, he took the higher road and made it happen, he got the lower portion of the patio to be level with the AC pad. Now as in many project poop happens and you both just need to wipe it off and meet in the middle. Alex Moya Jr. did this and more. The temps were high during this project. He was dealing with me through the whole thing. He in no way, shape or form let me down with the results. My Patio looks amazing, the slab for my bins look great, the driveway extension looks wonderful. If I have any future concrete needs, I will be using Ace Contractors

***DO NOT MAKE THE SAME COSTLY MISTAKE AS I DID!*** Let me preface this by saying that I was highly discouraged from writing a review of my recent experience with Alex and Ace Contractors. The main reason why I held off for as long as I did was because I thought that we were still "under warranty" for our patio. It was only when I realized that this false warranty, was in fact, just a selling tool to get us to do business together. DO NOT FALL FOR ALEX'S SALES TACTICS! THE BACK STORY: My husband and I bought a brand new home in Austin and after one year, we decided to extend our existing patio in our backyard. We wanted more outdoor entertaining space and after researching several options (i.e. composite or wooden deck vs. concrete patio), we decided that a concrete patio would be the best option. We knew it would cost more money upfront, however, we didn't want to deal with the maintenance that the other options would require (i.e. staining, repairs, etc.). Time to find a contractor to do the job! I submitted a Yelp request on Sunday, 4/25/21 Alex, the business owner, reached out to me within a couple of hours. I was impressed with how quickly he responded, on a Sunday, as a matter of fact! He offered to come to our home that evening to provide a complimentary quote. I was excited on how things were quickly moving! That evening, Alex came by to discuss the project and provided us with an initial quote. His initial quote was $3,400. It was more than I had expected to spend, however, he told me that he and his crew would be able to get started on the project the next day. He also informed us that there would be a one-year warranty on the patio. My husband and I agreed to give him the business. Time to get to work! As promised, Alex and his team showed up the next morning, Monday, 4/26 to get started. The process started with the framing of the patio. A couple of hours into the job and I got a call from my husband who was overseeing the job at home. He called to inform me that Alex was now quoting a higher price to add a step because the drop off would be a couple inches from the ground. I was feeling a bit frustrated at that point because now it was going to cost us more money than what he initially quoted. We finally agreed to add a wrap around step that would be aesthetically pleasing, however, our initial quote went from $3,400 to now $4,200! Again, I was feeling frustrated by the unexpected price tag but we knew we wanted it to look good so we agreed to pay the higher price. It took two days to finish framing the patio and at the end of the second day, Alex surprised us with good news! He informed us that they would have the concrete poured two days earlier than what he originally said. We would have our concrete patio done by Wednesday instead of Friday! By Thursday, 4/29, I had a finished concrete patio! Pretty impressive, I must say, since it only took 5 days from initial quote to project completion! Shortly thereafter, I began noticing a few things wrong with our new patio. I have attached several photos displaying the "quality of work" that Ace Contractors delivers. I also have a lengthy text chain that shows me constantly having to text Alex to see when he would be back to finish the work on the patio. This went on for approximately three months, May 4th to August 4th. I started to include it in this review so that you could see the type of contractor I was working with but I think Yelp reviews are limited to the number of letters so I had to omit that section. Finally, after several unsuccessful attempts to get Ace Contractors to come out and address the work that I thought that the one year warranty would cover, I informed Alex that if these issues weren't corrected, I will post a review on Yelp of our experience. At that point, he proceeded to tell me "Don't threaten me... you texted me today that's it. I asked you to remind me Monday... today isn't Monday. (Mind you, it was two days after) If you feel you need to go through Yelp that's fine. Please don't threaten me. Thanks.. you guys are so demanding... I can't control if Hair line cracks... I don't make the concrete just pour it." I proceeded to tell Alex that he was dishonest by extending a one year warranty on work he couldn't guarantee. He said that I was threatening him (by posting a Yelp review) and that he didn't feel comfortable meeting me. So here I am out of luck and probably having to spend more money to get my patio fixed, 3 months after it was poured! I know that I should have taken more time to find a reputable company to do the work. Instead, I got someone who admitted that they were rushing to get the job done. Those words came directly out of Alex's mouth! Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money, time or energy on working with a business that doesn't stand behind its work! You're only going to be left feeling frustrated and upset after spending thousands of your hard-earned money!

The prepared driveway with rebar prior to concrete pour.

ACE Contractors just completed the removal and rebuild of a portion of our driveway that was badly cracked and raised up due to a large tree root. I got 4 bids and they were the best one of the others from Yelp. Alex seemed to know what he was doing and actually did a great job. He also needed to try to match the exposed rock aggregate that was on the rest of my driveway which he also did well. It took he and his crew just 2 days to clear out the old driveway, prepare the area, place the rebar and then pour the new concrete. His dad came the morning of the third day to power off the top surface to expose the stones. We are very pleased in his company's work, as an engineer (PE) I'd recommend him to my friends and neighbors.

The front walkway at my (very senior) parents' home was unsafe with gaps and uneven sections. Alex's crew came promptly and discovered the old concrete was unreasonably thick (see the pic, it's nuts). Alex kept me posted and the crew worked late to get the job done despite the unpleasant surprise. I ended up paying a bit more than originally quoted, but that strikes me as entirely fair given the added demands. Alex was easy to communicate with despite me being on the West Coast the whole time. And most importantly my parents now have a well constructed front path that I don't worry about at all.

If you need concrete work done then Ace is the answer. Alex responded quickly and was very professional. Alex and his crew finished the job very quickly and were respectable and clean with their work. I'd recommend Ace to anyone looking for concrete work, they are the only guys I will use now in the future.

25x7 patio extension. This was right after it was finished. The color has since lightened as it dried and it looks great!

We hired Alex to put in a patio extension after getting several quotes. We felt he would provide the best quality service for our project and we weren't disappointed. He did exactly what we asked for, was responsive and easy to work with and he and his crew were amazing! We absolutely love our new patio and highly recommend them!

When I first moved into my new home, there was nothing but a one foot concrete stoop at the back door. Now I have a little patio oasis! The guys at Ace answered all our questions and were always courteous and prompt. The price was reasonable, and they were careful yet quick with completing the work. Would definitely recommend.

In a world of flaky contractors we finally found a great one! I was thrilled to find Alex for some concrete work for our new home in the Hill Country. I have never encountered someone as eager to get to work as Alex and his crew! Our stairs look amazing and we can't wait to have Ace Contractors back for the driveway and pool deck at some point. Alex was very responsive, on time, clean, and reasonably priced. Nice guy too!

Alex and his team did a fantastic job with our driveway extension project, and would happily use them again. The quote was quick and reasonable, right in the middle of the other quotes we had gathered. However, their communication was much better than the competition and was able to go from quote to project completion in no time. The project came out great, and Ace offers a 1-year warranty on their work. Would definitely recommend them to others.

Alex and his team did an amazing job and the end result was high quality! On time, professional, honest, and got the job done. We had a previous contractor do a terrible job and never returned to finish our project. Alex reached out the same day I contacted him and arrived the next morning to discuss how he can fix and finish our project. He gave us his advice and assured us he will make it look great. I will use Alex in the future and will refer friends and family. He is truly and expert with tons of experience. Alex returned a week later to check on the concrete.

Thanks for taking care of our concrete needs, Ace Contractors! After a bad experience with another concrete company, Alex and his crew came out, talked us through the process, how they were going to fix the errors made from another company, and he delivered. He was always responsive over text and over the phone. The job took about 1.5 weeks to complete from start to finish. I also appreciate how clean they were each day after they left. In all honesty, I'm just happy my wife is happy now.

Ando from System Pavers came out to the house and talked me through the product offerings and the design possibilities, and came back with a visual representation and a quote. After that, we went back and forth quite a bit while we played out different aesthetic possibilities. He was always responsive and friendly. Next we were handed off to Rafael, who continued the pattern of excellent customer service. He walked me through the project and what our needs would be to ensure a great design with adequate drainage that fit into the limitations of our space. Rafael was incredibly responsive, explained things to me thoroughly - it felt like he was looking out for my best interest. Pricing also seemed quite reasonable, and appropriate for the value that they deliver. I'd definitely recommend.

Our paver patio build journey started back in October with another company from Thumbtack, which…read moreresulted in an utterly disastrous and unusable final product. We spent the next several weeks ripping out and hauling off their mistakes, while trying to find a more reputable company to basically build back up from scratch. After half a dozen more calls, visits, and quotes later, System Pavers came into the picture with a vision that was utmost appealing to us. System Pavers sent out a sales consultant for the initial meet up, as usual. His quote was the 2nd highest we received from the lot, which was beyond our comfort level, but we ultimately decided to bite the bullet and hire them, because of their 25 year warranty and the fact that they are a nationally recognized company. We've already sunk in a considerable amount of time and money into this project, so it was vital to us that there would be absolutely no mistakes the second time around. With System Pavers being the most reputable company that we could find, our choice in hiring them was a no-brainer. At the time of writing this review, System Pavers hasn't started the build yet. The project fell into a limbo due to a miscalculation made by the sales consultant, which would require a major change to the plans and significantly raising the cost of the build. Despite of this issue, I'm actually writing this to commend Rafael, our project manager, and his efforts in correcting this issue. He was able to negotiate the best possible outcome on our behalf with the sales team, essentially rendering the miscalculation a nonissue. All in all, I would highly recommend hiring System Pavers to anyone for any paver project needs. Just save yourself the headache and hire a company that will stand behind their reputation and product. I will update this review with pictures once the project has been completed.

    Green Ease Landscapes & Design

    (36 reviews)

When I look back at what made our family choose Green Ease Landscapes & Design, three things stood…read moreout: design expertise, clear and timely communication, and experience to back a vision for what our home could be. That vision has been further realized with the help of Green Ease. The following is a pretty detailed review of our positive experience with Green Ease, owner William P, and his crew. In short: You're going to get a solid service with them, so feel confident trusting them for your landscaping needs. My family's home had suffered a great deal of erosion over the years that required some foundation work. While we were pleased to get that done and over with, the truth is that the front and back yards were just unsightly. The front yard was essentially just dirt and roots. The large oak trees had prevented grass from growing, and the water run-off had exposed the massive roots that made walking outside a danger to everyone. In the back, water would collect and stagnate forming a mud swamp that oversaturated the grass. The back yard was literally being used as a storage area because we would never allow guests back there. Aside from a much-needed design overhaul, our home desperately needed drainage infrastructure to prevent further damage and allow the yard to actually function as an outdoor space. Our initial conversations began after I found Green Ease online and reviewed their mix of hardscaping, landscaping, and xeriscaping pictures and services. We were interested in xeriscaping from a water conservation prospective, and because we knew that the amount of shading in our lot just wouldn't make growing grass sustainable. We also knew that no matter what aesthetic we went with, it was critical to divert water in a way that lessened the chance of further foundation damage and swamp-like conditions in our yard. Those were our priorities, and everything else would be nice-to-haves. Green Ease was far away from us and their typical service area, but we took a chance and gave them a call. Owner William P. agreed to meet with us. He surveyed the property and made several recommendations; the core of which involved creating a retaining wall in the front of the home, installing drainage in the back yard, and utilizing a combination of xeriscaping and turf to uplift the overall look of the home. He took the time to ask my parents what they would like and how they would use the space, and then suggested we consider expanding the patio a bit so that there would be more room in the backyard to sit and enjoy the outdoors. After taking a few measurements, he provided a rough estimate of his work right then and there. We asked for some time to think things over. This was an investment, and we needed to be confident. We got bids from two other landscape design companies. One landscaping company refused to provide an honest bid without committing to a design fee, and the other provided a bid very similar to Green Ease, only after asking us to provide a design concept for the work. In the end, no one but Green Ease provided the design expertise and level of communication that we felt comfortable moving forward with. Once we agreed to move forward, William came out and we discussed the scope of work in a second detailed walk-through, and reviewed expectations and timelines. When work was set to begin, we visited with him to pick out hardscaping materials, and a selection of plants that would fit into our xeriscaped design. William made recommendations; many of which we went with, but we also felt very comfortable choosing another option if we would've had a different design element we wanted to achieve. When we met the crew, we knew we were in good hands. Every one of the crew members treated my folks with a great deal of respect. We hope that they left feeling proud of the work they did, because they did a damn good job. We allowed for a good deal of crew-based decision-making simply because of our busy schedule, and we were happy with all of the decisions they made. I especially want to shout out the fact that there were small but meaningful accommodations made in the design that made it safer and easier for my folks, who are up in their years, to navigate. I'm not sure that level of detail and consideration would've happened with another crew or another company. In the end, what we discussed during our first consult with Green Ease was ultimately what we received as a final product. There were no major surprises that you sometimes get from vision to execution. The front yard and its retaining wall and xeriscaped stone and plants are amazing, the back yard's turf and flagstone patio are beautiful, and the garden area that allows for native plants to flourish are all so visually appealing. We're incredibly grateful for the superb work they completed on our home. We chose Green Ease because we felt William would help realize our vision in a manner that was detail-oriented. That was exactly what we got.

A family member asked me to improve the landscaping at her home. The existing landscape was…read moreovergrown from the builder's original plantings over 20 years earlier, and the previous owners' plantings had never been approved by the HOA and were also overgrown. After drawing up rudimentary front and backyard plans, I began looking for contractors that were highly reviewed. Good communication was an important aspect of this. Green Ease, owned by William Paquette, was the final choice. William met us at the house within a few days of my contacting him. He came across as competent and knowledgeable. He gave his initial estimate very quickly, and we found it to be reasonable relative to one other. The landscape plan included a curved limestone retaining wall, irrigation changes, a metal raised bed, and 2 cedar structures (a simple arbor and a trellis). Plants were included, as well as drip irrigation. William accompanied us to a nearby stone yard and wholesale nursery to make selections for stone, gravel, mulch, and plants. The number of plants included in the bid was determined based on the area being landscaped. The nursery products looked very nice when we made selections. Work began within a few weeks and was managed by Chris. William stopped by a few times. Chris also built a custom metal raised bed. A friend of William's built an amazing and substantial trellis and a cedar arbor. Plants were picked up just before they were to be installed, and I was allowed to place them. The project was deemed finished and was paid for, but there were a few things needing corrections. William was responsive and able to fit these fixes in within a few weeks. The positive aspects of this landscaping experience included excellent communication with William, his accompanying us to the stone yard and nursery, well-executed stone work, and the superb trellis and arbor. The guys did a great job of removing old plantings and filling in areas where new sod was needed. The negatives included areas I felt were not as well executed as they could have been, and are the reason for deducting one star on this review. The steel bed, while nicely made, did not fit flush against the patio and was filled with poor quality soil before I noticed the gap between bed and patio. The first "fix" by Chris was putting gravel into the gap and using mortar to seal the ends. The mortar cracked, and a second "fix" of steel being welded to hold the gravel in was done. It's functional but not pretty. Also, the plants that were brought in were definitely not the quality of those we looked at with William. Virtually all of them were leggy, and many looked unhealthy. Several ended up being replaced. I was also not happy that the arbor was positioned without first verifying the desired location. Still, the overall appearance of the landscape is very good, with the standout custom features. Green Ease is a business I would recommend to others. They handle every aspect of landscaping and do a good job.
