I have taken two articles of clothing in for repairs recently here and have been very impressed by her work. The first was a pair of Lululemon shorts that I had been quoted $12 elsewhere for a new button and clasp. Yet another shop told me they couldn't do it at all. May quoted me $3-$4 and with a turnaround of a few days, which was perfect for my needs. The work looked great upon pickup! My second article was a button up-shirt that had a similar issue. Again, the work looks great and the price was excellent. Parking is strictly metered in the area, though there are some parking garages in the vicinity as well. A number of buses go by here, and it's only a block or two from Cartem's if that tickles your fancy! I would consider this place to be a hidden gem. The ladies that work here are nice to work with, have a very reasonable turn around and most importantly do excellent work. Highly recommended!

I was asked for photos and given a quote for 2 options. less expensive option cut lace, sew scalloped edging back on. Second much more expensive option was to remove skirt and hem from the waist, not easy as there are 2 layers and a zipper. Daughter chose the less expensive option. When we picked up the dress Lilianne had made the executive decision to hem from the waist as she felt that cutting the lace would interrupt the pattern too much. We were not charged for the upgrade. Other local seamstress suggested my daughter wear higher heels. No way we could add another 4 inches to her already high heels.

There didn't seem to be a huge selection since again, the store is smaller, but what was there was quite pretty. There were no pushy salesmen/salesladies to deal with here - the woman working at the times I went was very laid back and friendly and totally lets you browse at your own pace. The alterations service is where this store shines though, at least in my case. I'd bought a dress elsewhere and had a really unfortunate experience there with alterations. I brought it in here to see if there was anything to be done to fix up the damage, and the woman mentioned before immediately knew what to do to get the dress looking better. My only regret was not taking the dress to be altered here in the first place because she really did a great job in repairs. While I didn't need this particular service at the time, they do offer custom dresses as well. I actually got a peek at a dress in-progress while I was picking up my own and from what I could see the quality was very good. I would definitely come back if I ever needed anything altered again, especially another dress. I overall loved the relaxed feel of the store and customer service was excellent. This is certainly a place to at least take a look-see if you're in need of bridal dresses, formal wear, or alterations.

AVOID! Do not take your clothes to this place! Metropolis Alternations will not take responsibility…read morefor a damaged garment, act rudely, and will not honor the receipt conditions or even offer a refund. My wife recently brought an expensive coat for dry cleaning and a minor alteration. Hellen (the lady at the counter) confirmed they could do the job for $120, she called somebody to confirm they were able to clean this type of coat. Upon collection, we noticed the coat has shrunk so much that the internal liners were hanging from the sides, and the coat was ruined. Their explanation is that my wife didn't show the coat "fit properly" before they ruined it. Nevertheless, they inspected the coat as some minor alterations were needed. Their excuse is not valid, they are supposed to be professionals and identify their mistake. As a member of the Metropolis community of business and a recurring customer, the lady insinuates we were trying to take advantage of them. I don't take this type of rude behavior kindly and I'm frankly disappointed with the way Hellen runs her business. I'm expecting to get a canned reply saying "I apologize for the inconvenience" and "This is not standard practice". Helen, the least you could have done is act with empathy and return the 120 dollars you charged for the dry cleaning services. Anything besides that is empty words.
