This is our go-to Spa in the area. It rivals the Spa at Pebble Beach in my book. We have been several times and had just about every treatment they offer. Almost every experience exceeded my expectations. I even had a fabulous massage where the therapist incorporated energy work--amazing! The only negative experience I had was with the head esthetician. She was rude during my facial and had no "bedside" manner. She criticized the products I've been using (which aren't cheap) and in general had nothing nice to say. I take good care of my skin, and every other time I've had a facial the estheticians have been so nice and also complimentary. I tried to lighten the mood by cracking a joke, but that just made it awkward. So...I haven't been back for a facial for that reason. I wish I could remember who I had the time before that because she was fabulous! Regardless, I would recommend this spa to anyone for a Mom's day-away, girl's spa day or couple's spa day! My mother, sister, and I love a bonding spa outing. Massages were good, not the best, but the therapists were very attentive to individual needs (I wanted attention to my feet, and she rubbed and wrapped them in hot towels...ah.) Also, has fancy warming tables that curve into an S shape when you need to sit up. Accista is restorative and peaceful, with a huge "quiet room" stocked with nuts and fruit. There's also wet and dry steam rooms. Only drawback: to get to the outdoor pool, jacuzzi, you have to exit the building and walk down a path. Several places in Monterey tend to be closed Sunday/Monday or else you have to call ahead of time -- we were able to book in the morning for that afternoon. Ask for the AAA discount! One is an employee of the Pebble Beach Spa. She said that Accista is better than the Pebble Beach Spa. And I suppose it helps that the prices are too crazy. Marc A. and I visited Monterey last year for a nice staycation for our anniversary. It was a difficult trip because we just had our baby four weeks prior and were taking her on her first outing. We were adjusting to life as new parents and I was overwhelmed by the demanding job of around-the-clock breastfeeding. Marc was kind enough to treat me to a massage at Accista as we were staying at the Hyatt Regency, and it was just what I needed. I was still recovering from the severe gestational edema I had developed in my eighth month of pregnancy and my rapidly recovering body needed to be calmed and healed. Before I get into the details of my treatment, let me talk about the spa itself. This Hyatt Regency isn't as grand as others I've stayed at so I wasn't expecting much from the spa. That said, I was more than pleasantly surprised to open the doors to absolute sanctuary. Everything about the place was inviting - the front desk staff, the lighting, the decor, and just about every other detail. Not having slept well in months, I was in heaven. From the moment I slipped on my spa robe and those great Zendals, I was in total relaxation mode. I arrived a bit early for my massage so I could enjoy the amenities (sauna and steam room, etc.), which were brand new and impeccably clean. Afterward I headed to the lounge area which was beautifully decorated in true Monterey fashion. I hadn't even gotten my massage yet and was ready to nod off. I enjoyed some fresh fruits and nuts with refreshing berry water while I waited and so I wouldn't fall asleep. Carol was my massage therapist and I chose the "Natural Mama" postpartum treatment since my body was in a crazy state of transition. I was still quite swollen and my milk had just come in a few weeks prior so my breasts were engorged... I was in the midst of a very dramatic physical transformation. Carol was very understanding and made me feel very comfortable in spite of having leaky breasts and being, let's say, "full bodied." lol Now that I think of it, she was a very pleasant woman whose quiet and peaceful demeanor was infectious. My massage was wonderful. All the pent up stress that comes with being a new mother - the mental, physical, and emotional exhaustion - melted away into the massage table after mere minutes. Carol checked on me several times during the 90-minute session to make sure I was comfortable. She explained the different oils and serums she was using as they were geared specifically toward toning and restoring postpartum skin. No miracles could be worked to fully improve the way my skin/body looked after giving birth but I WAS glowing post-massage and felt less self-conscious in the buff. Overall, the treatment was AMAZING and Carol's soothing touch was incredibly healing. After the massage, I relaxed some more in the lounge area and then headed back to the locker area and enjoyed the wonderful waterfall shower. Being gone for several hours, I knew it was time wrap it up. I dried my hair and slipped back into my regular clothes. Checked my iPhone to see that Marc A. was growing weary of daddy duty. Back to reality! My experience at Accista was so memorable that I often relive it in my daydreams when being a stay-at-home-mom pushes me a bit past the edges of sanity. Oy. What to say about this spa? If only there was an "It's complicated" rating on Yelp... Accista Spa is a large, beautiful space. The women's locker room is decently spacious and almost half of the second floor is the "relaxation area" dotted with couches and lounges. I had booked a massage and a facial with the Travelzoo two-fer voucher. I had my massage with Carol and my facial with Anna. Both services were decent, although Anna spent all of about 30 seconds on extractions. I know that my skin is not THAT good that 30 seconds of extractions would do the trick. Customer service was sort of the hit or miss part. I had come to the spa with a few girl friends, one of which had booked a pedicure and the other had booked a facial. I had called the spa a week before, asking if it would be possible to use the couples room for our group and was told that would not be a problem. When Carol had picked me up for my facial, she led me to a regular treatment room. "No biggie," I thought. I figured that maybe we would get the couples room for our facials. When Anna picked me up, I was led to another regular treatment room. At that point I thought that this was a little odd. As it turned out, we had bigger problems than a snafu with booking the couple's room: my friend's facialist had called in sick or something at the last minute. Tori, the lady at the front desk casually told my friend that there was no way that they would be able to accommodate my friend and that she would have to reschedule. Not a big deal except that we live TWO HOURS AWAY. I wasn't there for this exchange, but I was told that Tori had been extremely unapologetic about the whole fiasco. Thankfully, the manager showed up not too long after that and was able to work out a compensatory arrangement that my friend ended up being happy with. Bottom line: a beautiful spa with okay services. A little expensive, however, if you were to pay regular price. read more

From other reviews, it looks like the massages here are great - I wish I had stuck to my original appointment for a massage. Unfortunately, I had to change my appt time and all that was avalable was a facial. My facial was scheduled with Anna. Unfortuntely, I can not recommend her. She doesn't use any pressure at all. In fact, it feels like she is barely touching your face. This was probably the worst facial I have ever had. It was very half-assed. I didn't feel particularly refreshed or renwed after my treatment. I requested more pressure on the neck massage portion of the program and she had some excuse about not wanting to hurt my lymph nodes - whatever. I wasn't impressed with the products either. The whole time I was getting my facial, I felt like I was wasting my time. NEVER have I felt that way during any spa treatments in my life. I am hoping that the other aestheticians are better--as with any spa treatment, the experience is directly related to the tech. Perhaps others are better? I tipped her in full anyway, but I regret it. I would not return to this spa for a facial. The facilities are pretty nice and it seems fairly new. The service is spotty, though the young man on the phone who helped me with my scheduling issues was very nice and helpful. read more

AWESOME: came here to get a couples hot stone massage and it was so relaxing. The facilities are really great -- there is a steam room, dry sauna, nice changing area/locker section, and waterfall showers. There is fruity water as well which I really enjoyed. The women's dressing room is stocked with a nice metropolis hair dryer, hairspray, lotion, combs and brushes, hair ties, razor blades -- anything you could want! The relaxation area where you wait for your massuese is awesome and they have yummy snacks for you to eat while you wait. We also each had a glass of champagne which was a nice touch. The staff and front desk are all very knowledgeable and kind. I enjoyed my experience very much. read more

This place is AMAZING! We had been looking for a great place for massages and have finally found one. We have never gotten a bad massage there and my husband and I have been 3 times in the last 5 weeks! We heard about this place through a girl we met, Nichole, when we were out one night and complaining about the lack of good spas here. She admitted to working there but was very confident in recommending it. It's not often you find people with such confidence in their workplace AND she doesn't do massage so it was confidence in her coworkers as well. The facilities are very clean, posh and the staff is always so nice. The pictures don't do this place justice. If you are looking for a great relaxing experience I highly recommend it! Unfortunately I didn't have a treatment but was able to check out the facilities! The steam bath, sauna, hot tub as well as the rain showers are absolutely fantastic! The ambiance is relaxing and soothing. Fresh water with strawberries, cold towels, robes, slippers, towels and so much more will await you once you enter the Spa area. I love to surprise my husband. He loves me and I love him. This weekend is all about him. From the White BMW, to the stay at the Hyatt Regency, to the drive around 17 mile in Monterey. I wanted it to be special for him. I arranged online to have the 30 minute massage, but called them at the hotel to upgrade it to the 60 minute deep tissue and gave a really beautiful tip so long as the husband was taken care of. My husband opened the doors as soon as the Hyatt golf cart dropped him off. The two ladies in the reception yelled surprise. He was impressed with the beauty and the entrance amenities...pitchers of ice cold fruit refreshing water, raw cashers, plates of dates. The Spa screamed luxury, peace, being content, and lavish pampering for the affluent. His masseuse was professional and gave a deep tissue massage with skill, precision. My husband was in heaven. The massage was quiet, peaceful and relaxing. The spa offers a moist and dry sauna. Hubby stayed for 20 minutes, showered and returned to our room refreshed and feeling rejuvenated. I was happy. They made his weekend and mine, fantastic. Bravo. Bravo. read more

The Accista Spa at the Hyatt is pretty nice. My massage by Shawn was a deep tissue. She was able to release me from a lot of pain in my legs today. Strong, hands get down to business. I would recommend her. The manger there went out of her way to accommodate me. She found me a hot tub and took me there n picked me up in time for my massage. wow. Service w/ a :). The mani wasn't so great. Started peeling off n a couple of days. The Hyatt needs a facelift, but the Spa is worth it. read more

This spa was a great choice for my girlfriend to get her deep tissue massage. We traveled to Monterey for her Bachelorette weekend and scheduled a massage here for her. The service and price was great. She said her massage was amazing and felt so awesome. Why they're lacking the fifth star? They're a little disorganized. We dropped my friend off early. Her appt was at 2:30 pm and we got there around 2:10. They took her away got her in a robe and sandals while we paid and left to run errands. She was waiting in the relaxation room for about 30 min. Mean while they called me asking if we're going to make it to the spa. I told the gentleman on the phone that we already dropped her off and she was checked in early. Her therapist finally comes to find her and tells her that her massage will be cut short due to her being late. When she explained that she'd been waiting - the therapist went downstairs to yell at the front desk. I guess it was a mis-communication between the therapist and the front desk so my girlfriend got her full hour massage. As well as the fact that when booking the massage, I was under the impression that the other facilities were open to anyone visiting the spa. Such as the hot tub, the gym, the pool, or the relaxation rooms. They're only available to guests of the hotel. Yet I'm spending money in your spa and I can not enjoy anything else? Lame. read more

Cons: (1) awful irritating fast & loud music on Sat morning early mani/pedi. The opposite of spa music. I was the only person in spa and asked for it to be changed. Staff indicated music was corporate picked and controlled in Canada and the it couldn't be changed by the. Uh... okay, at least they did have control of the off switch. Nearly ruined my experience. (2) no pedi/mani combo price available so you have to pay full price which makes them BY FAR the most expensive in Monterey. Portola spa is better and about $40 cheaper. (3) gift certificate given to me by friends for my birthday can only be used for FULL amount of the gift certificate or you forfeit the rest of it. Seems like extortion. Had high hopes for this spa but these are some ridiculous issues that one would not anticipate. Monterey Peninsula area has waaaaayyyy better spas. Pros: Lovely mellow interior read more

A month ago I purchased a 1-hour deep tissue massage certificate for my wife. The lady on the phone suggested that I should also come and while my wife is getting her massage, enjoyed their spa, jacuzzi and the pool. So yesterday we did just that. My wife went for her massage and I spent an hour between the eucalyptus steam room and outdoor hot tub and heated pool. Very good experience! My wife was quite happy with her deep tissue done by I think, Victoria, and I had a very relaxing morning soaking up in different tubs and pools. They even have some fruit and pastries on the second floor in the lounge room... Highly recommended... read more

The spa is lovely and spa staff are very helpful and courteous. It's relaxing here. I booked a $65 pedicure but ended up getting charged for a $75 pedicure. There was miscommunication by the booker. That was irritating. Luckily, My nail technician was super sweet. She was asked to interrupt my appointment to change a nail color for a last-minute guest. She brought me champagne for the interruption. She did a decent job on my pedicure and nail painting, but definitely feel she could have spent longer massaging. I don't think the service I received warranted $75+. I feel like I should have gotten more for my money. read more

So I came back to accista for an eyebrow wax. Apparently they have someone "on-call" to do that. The wax wasn't that good only because the shape turned out to look like major comas as in: , . Anyways, they don't have any more of their cucumber berry flavored water!!! Which was funny because the lady told me relax and and enjoy some fruit etc. and I told her, yeah I've been here before, I LOVE the water! She looked at me kinda crazy like...what is she talking about? Sure enough I turn the corner and its just plain ol water. Boo. Maybe they're cutting costs?? Ive stopped writing reviews, but with one of the services I received last Saturday, I think this deserves a review....... I had 2 services, a massage, which I will write a good review on that later, because I feel its not fair to combine the two and the second one is the pedicure. $57 for a french pedicure that was anything but subpar. I could have done a better job myself. I should stick with the nail places by my house. They are in transition of switching and renovating to another Spa name. I was put in a room that they used for either scrubs or massages. The therapist was nice. The atmosphere, not so much. I had to sit in a wicker chair with an over sized cushion on my back. When I moved the cushion, you lean way back. Not comfortable either way. Then I have to put my feet in an over sized copper pot looking thing. My legs were too far extended where it wasn't even comfortable. There was no massage with the pedicure. Pretty basic. Nothing I would expect coming from a nicer hotel. She put the scrub on my legs that were pretty much on my dry skin which made it feel like she is rubbing sandpaper into my legs. Nothing enjoyable about that. Not to mention that she left the room a few times because she couldn't stop coughing. That's nice and relaxing! I asked for a french pedicure and she did it real thin the first time. When I asked her if she could make it thicker, she did. But now my pedicure is uneven. Its higher on one side and thinner on the other side. So uneven. then resting my feet on the other of the foot stool kept slipping back, So I couldn't even actually relax or else the foot stool would have slid across the room. Upon checking out, the receptionist didn't even ask how my services were. If she would have asked, I would have told her. But since she didn't, I didn't bring it up. I definitely would not go back for the pedicures. read more

The Accista spa is a great place if all you are looking for is a good massage with a knowledgeable masseuse. If you are looking for relaxation, something luxurious, and other amenities then i would look elsewhere. During my massage, I could hear two ladies talking REALLY loudly half the time. I'd hardly call that relaxing. There is a cedar sauna and steam room. NO hot tub. The steam room has no eucalyptus or any type of scent in it that is the norm at other spas. There isn't anywhere to relax in the ladies locker room. All you can do is sit in the sauna/steam, take a shower, and get dressed, and then leave. There were no snacks in the locker room - only exists up the stairs on the second floor in the relaxation room. The showers have a waterfall shower head and a hand held. The hand held was broken in the shower I used. I had a hard time finding the hair dryer as there was only ONE hairdryer tucked into a drawer. There were no standard amenities like hair spray, deodorant, or hair gel. But did have body lotion. Only saw razor blades, qtips, cotton balls, and tampons. No plastic bags for wet swimsuits! Overall, the massage was really good but facilities wise not the best just ok. read more

This review is only about the Accista pedicure or more specifically the "organic" polish. A friend and I had it done a week ago and the polish already started to come off. Pedicures last a minimum of 3 weeks and the "organic" polish they use didn't even last a week. For the price I paid, it is not worth it. The pedicure session lasted an hour but it was more soaking my feet in water than actual work on them. The lady was sweet but I will never have a pedicure there again. Maybe I will try a massage next time. I heard they are good, not great but good enough. read more

I had a facial and a massage package. The spa was completely empty which was nice! The service was mediocre & the reason why it's 3 stars is because the staff and masseuse was super friendly. The atmosphere and decor is very pleasing on the eyes. I'm not sure if I just had a bad masseuse but she definitely did not do a great job. She kept poking me with her nail and pushing on my spine, how comfortable is that?? Then, when it came to the facial, she was very messy and sloppy! Just left Accista spa, my wife and I just got a massage and facial then spent time in the couples retreat. I get a massage once every two to three weeks. We both had Susan, she is the best massage therapist I have had. Karla gave us the facial, my wife has more experience there. She says its one of the best she's had. It was to much of the same person in the same room way to long. My esthetician told me she was the lead esthetician however, her skills were not very good. Like many other local residents, I purchased a fitness/spa membership at Accista Spa. The hotel offered these memberships about 2 years ago when they were in financial trouble. About 90 local people/families signed up and helped to support the hotel at its time of need. Now without any explanation, hotel management has changed the memberships by charging the same monthly fees ($55) but radically cutting members' access to facilities (now gym only). It is absolutely despicable that hotel management is now betraying the very locals who helped them out. This is a very short-sighted move and one that will hurt the hotel. Many of the local members also supported the hotel restaurants and other services but now they will not. The hotel will surely fail with such hurtful management. By the way, the jacuzzis and other facilities are often dirty and hotel maintenance is poor. Stay away from this place. read more

I was here last month for a mini getaway. My spa day turned out to be one of the most relaxing day I've had in awhile. This is a new spa, only about a month old when I came in but the staff was not new to the business. I got a back to back facial and massage and both services were excellent. Just a tip, you get a discount for booking through AAA. I had a custom facial and my therapist asked me to choose from a variety of oils and scents to use. I cant remember what I ended up choosing but all the products are organic. As for the massage, it was very thorough and the pressure was just right. My session actually went over by 5 minutes which was a bonus for me. The spa has a steam room, sauna and very nice shower/locker rooms. The jacuzzi was outside in the pool area which I still enjoyed because it's somewhat separate from the pool. Plus, I had it all to myself. The only thing I found a little annoying was that the room I was in was a bit too bright as it was next to the window. When I mentioned it to my therapist, she gave me a nice warm cloth over my eyes and it was instant relaxation after that. read more

Worst customer service ever!!! My husband and I both made massage appts. at this spa His appt. was at 3PM and mine was at 4PM. Unfortunately, I got very sick and couldn't make it. My husband decided to keep his appt. at 3PM and take my slot too at 4PM. When I called to tell the spa, the person I spoke to was quite unsympathetic and kept telling me that we would be charged a cancellation fee. I told him that made no sense since my husband was making back to back appointments and they wouldn't miss out on any revenue, but he kept insisting on telling me about their cancellation policy and the cancellation fees. I was sick to my stomach and so frustrated from dealing with someone who wouldn't listen to what the customer was trying to tell him. All he wanted to talk about was the cancellation policy. If this is how they treat their customers, I would not recommend this place to anyone!!!! Do NOT go here!!!! read more
