As a Mexican who's been chasing tacos across the globe like a culinary Indiana Jones, I thought I'd tasted it all--until Acapulco Fresh in Kenmore, WA, slapped me with a carne asada taco plate so good I nearly forgot my own name. This place is a fast-casual gem that holds its own against my all-time faves, Plaza Santa Fe and Tres Hermanos, but with a vibe that is more of a small family divey restaurant in a strip mall with exquisite food but beer rather than a full bar. It also serves extremely authentic clean Mexican food similar to what my grandma used to take. This place has been slinging tacos for 33 years as of tomorrow, which had I known, I would have definitely made it here before now. The only reason I hadn't graced their doorstep sooner is their early closing time--apparently, they don't cater to my midnight taco cravings. The crowd I met while waiting included loyal regulars who've been eating here since the dawn of time and Mexican-American workers who know great Mexican when they taste it. The food isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for-a place where the tacos are stuffed, and the black beans,rice, and churros are the best I have ever had. Just don't show up late--they're not kidding about that early closing time. read more

I am all about supporting local and small businesses. I'll start with the positive, the service was great and the food came out quick. The salsa bar was a plus, and post pandemic it's hard to find a fresh salsa bar with pico de gallo, escaviche, and a variety of salsas that seem made in house. I would share this was the highlight of my visit. The guacamole was outstanding. I read some of the other reviews and the food tasted like a mix of out of the box and reheated grilled meats. This isn't a bad thing as the salsa really provided the "fresh" aspect. I tried the flautas and tostada and there was an old grease after taste which wasn't appetizing. I love hand made tortillas and my Baja plate, although tasted good had the mission brand tortilla taste with out of the box rice and canned beans and cheese. I think Seattle has lots of Mexican restaurants like Carmelo's, Taco's Chuki's, El Camion, El Fogon that provide house made Mexican food around the same price point with slightly fresher tasting ingredients for take out. Would I got back? Yes! I hope my review isn't a negative one. My hope is that this can be some minor feedback for the business. read more

Sadly, this might be the worst Mexican I ever had. I am also co fused by the word fresh. So, first. They have great salsa. I love that you can mix some of the salsa to get the right heat level. But it went down from there. So, I got chicken nachos. The chicken was precooked frozen chicken with no seasonings. I also have chips with shredded generic Kraft cheese that was rubbery. I was a little co fused because I expected chihuahua cheese that melts great and makes a sauce and chicken that was cooked in spices. My husband got a quesedilla that was dry and chewy. I.... just feel bad making these reviews.... but I feel others should know what they are getting.... read more

Fish tacos were freshly cooked but was a little under-seasoned. Side of rice and beans were standard. Caramel filled churro was yummy. Friendly and polite register and they'll bring your food out. Small area with 6-8 2-person tables and a couple tables outside. Self serve salsa/pico bar available. I got in before a dinner rush when a bunch of students packed the place. 4-6 orders before the rush were all take out/ pick up so the place stayed busy 6-6:30. read more

We ordered the steak enchilada special and the steak chimichanga, both were good and I especially liked the flavor of the steak. The meal also came with a portion of chips and there is a buffet style setup where you can get salsa and sides. With that said portion felt a little too small and I would either go with a combo or add an extra taco next time. read more

I am going to bump my review to good, 4/5. I have given this place more than one low review, but for good reason. I tell the truth and even if your food is 10/10, things like price, portion, service and communication all affect my overall score, so when people come back and say, "These are good people". my reply is good people do better. I had an amazing meal here this week and can say the overall experience was 5 star, however, based on history, I can't upgrade the review that high. I stand by my claim that any retail business needs a functional website. These days you can manage and update them yourself, it's doesn't require a degree and technical background, if you ever created a Myspace page, you can create a website today. I'm assuming this place is family run and the girl/woman who is at the front counter is always face down texting, so if you can master your phone, you can master a website or at a minimum update the Yelp page with hours, closure and pictures of the menu board. These are good people and honest people, the food is really good and after 30 years, there are probably only 2 meals out of the hundreds that I regret. I think I had a burrito once that just didn't have enough flavor and one time I had the nachos and it looked like a half portion compared to what I was used to. I'd assume we won't see them expand back to other cities again, but that is too bad. It's is seriously 55-60 minutes for me to get here with light traffic. The Bellevue, Issaquah, Sammamish and Redmond location would all cut my drive time in half if they still existed. I have to pass 100 Mexican places be it full service, fast food or a truck on my journey here and 99% of the time, it's worth it, but again, when you show up and the place is closed, well, that is not showing your customers love. Someone should encourage these people to claim their yelp page, I think it would generate more business with more photo's hours and they could even post daily special to attract more clients as well. read more

I happened upon this place just by driving by on Memorial Day weekend and I was impressed they were open, which very few places were. The service was great. The lady working was friendly and provided some good pointers on what to order and highlighted how fresh the food was. I ordered the tacos based on her feedback and she was totally right. The carne asada was fresh and very lean and the rice and beans are great. I also really like their salsa options. They have a spicy version that's VERY spicy, which I love since very few Mexican restaurants offer a really spicy option. read more

We got take-out from this restaurant recently. The snapper salad was quite good. The fish tasted fresh, and the other flavors complemented the fish quite well. The chicken taquitos were crispy, warm, and yummy. The Nachos were unfortunately too limp and soggy. I would not order those again. My husband got the quesadillas, which were also a bit soggy, although not as soggy as the nachos, so he said that he gives the quesadillas 4 stars. We might get take-out from this restaurant again. It satisfied our recent craving for Mexican food. We weren't overly impressed, but overall we liked most of the food. read more

It tastes exactly the same as it did in the 1900's when I frequented the old Redmond location (RIP) as a teen. The ideal ratio of ingredients, and the perfect ooey-gooey melted cheesiness. I have been going to Acapulco Fresh for years. Super friendly staff, great food and the salsa bar is to die for. I have all of the tacos: fish, steak, chicken and pork. All are delicious. Reminds of the street tacos I used to get in Sayulita. I also like the Burrito Grande with Chicken or just veggie. The green sauce on top is killer. Some of the best Mexican food I've had in the greater seattle area! The carne asada in the taco was so tender and delicious and the chicken in my enchilada was so flavorful! Also the rice and beans were good and they had a great selection of salsas. You can pay by card there but tips are cash only- wish I knew that before hand because they deserved a big tip! I have been going to this Acapulco Fresh for almost 15 years and must say they have the best Mexican food by far in the state of Washington. I live in Des Moines and make the drive to get their food weekly. The burritos, tacos and nachos are amazing. The chicken and carne asada are very well seasoned and the salsa is spot on. The prices are reasonable and absolutely worth every penny. The staff is extremely friendly and have a great memory as I only have to tell them what I want if I change my normal order. Love this place and if it wasn't so far away I'd eat there more often. read more

Yes, 4-stars is the collective rating for Acapulco Fresh, and I agree. Their "Acapulco Burrito" is arguably their signature entree - it features the grilled pork and chicken they're known for. Add to that the in-house fresh-made salsas, and pico-de-gallo, and fresh sliced vegetable condiments, it makes for a super-fresh and full favored burrito. The Salsa Negra Me has a roasted (maybe smoked) flavor with perhaps a hint of cumun. The Salsa Chihuahua Medium is a standard goes-with-anything. The green chili salsa is traditional and mild. Then of course, there's the Super-hot salsa. The pico-de-gallo is essentially diced white onion and cilantro (this startlingly fresh, not swimming in any fluid). The sliced vegetable garnish is carrot, onion and jalapeño, maybe in a light vinegar or similar pickling. The Bottom Line is: This is indeed about as fresh as it can get! Downsides? ... not really...I prefer "tacos dorados" (hard-shell crispy) and you won't find those here. But the corn chips that come with your meal are oil-free and are delicious, dipped in the sauces. Also, don't order too quickly, all menu items are hand written in chalk on blackboards over the counter, and they're hard to read! Otherwise, this is a good choice for a grab'n'go lunch that won't weight you down! read more

Stopped by Acapulco after taking my dog swimming next door. Staff was incredibly friendly, asked if we had been in previously and made appropriate recommendations. The salsa bar was fresh and so good, I had to get 2 to go containers of the salsa. Not crowded and very inviting place. 10/10 will be back and recommend to anyone. read more

Excellent salsa but when there was an error in what I was charged when I made a slight order change adding chips to the salsa ( a difference of 25 cents) All they needed to do was charge the extra quarter plus tax( though if it was a nickel I still have the right to politely bring any computation errors to their attention.) In fact, a real classy owner wd comp the chips! Owner comes up and says did you like the salsa (?) I said yes. I'm just mentioning that the arithmetic on the change was wrong so the girl will be more careful next time. (I was charged 94 cents for a 25 cent price difference) Then, in a very "in my face way" he tells take your dollar back in a VERY RUDE MANNER. I said I'm not asking for a refund I just wanted to explain adjusting 25 cents should not cost me 94 cents. His wife said " there is tax, right?" Then he says to me "after you make a FART( pedo in Spanish) about a few cents take your dollar back!!". SERIOUSLY? IS THAT HOW HE TALKS TO CUSTOMERS? I was extremely polite and a polite apology would have been the proper customer service approach. If he treats me like this, what happens to a customer who was overcharged by more? Never again!! But salsa negra is delicious indeed. But not so delicious i should have to deal with that RUDE MAN! What totally inappropriate business person. Little hole in the wall. Great service. Clean dining area. And the best chicken chimichanga I've had in the PNW. We get them extra fried which makes the shell suiuuper crispy. It's not you regular fried flour tortilla either. We think it's phyllo dough? So yummy. I get a big side of guacamole too because it's also the best in town. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because I've tried several other dishes and they're just not very good. I'm sure a lot of people like them but I'm really picky about my Mexican food. read more

We somehow lived in Kenmore for over 2 years before discovering this place, which is a 5-minute drive from us. So so good! I got the chicken enchiladas combo, and my husband got carne asada tacos. Both were fantastic! When we went to pick up our food, we were disappointed to see that they'll be closing up shop for the next month. Apparently they will be opening again after the New Year, and I really hope they do. The food here is seriously delicious. If they open back up again come 2021, we will definitely be back! read more

These guys make some bomb ass burritos, and they make them FAST. Honestly, I don't know how they make them so quickly. The only logical explanation is that someone on the staff is clairvoyant and they begin making your order as soon as it pops into your mind. That's really the only way to explain how a fresh burrito could be produced so quickly. Also, they have vegetarian fare for you meat fearing folk. This is a nice, local business! Hit them up for some lunch to take to the park. The lot is a pain to enter when heading N/E on 522 toward Bothel. It's best to turn before the lot onto 60th AVE NE and circling around back by turning onto 181st and then onto 61st. That's really the only way to get in because of how the roads are set up. Heading the opposite direction poses no complication for entering the parking lot. read more

Very good and fresh tasting. I ordered the chicken chimichanga and when it arrived at my table it was the same size as my forearm. The beans and rice are in the chimichanga, which accounts for the very large size. I was only able to eat about 1/3 of it, but it was delicious. Excellent!!! read more

We visit here from Totem Lake once a week. Absolutely love the beans, and they also have great pico! Pineapple for the sweetness, from what I can tell. And they know how to grill chicken. That's the deal-breaker. Other places give you those grizzly little nubs of ground chicken bits, but Acapulco Fresh gives you lovely grilled chicken. :) Aaaaaaand in this given day and age, I'm updating the review to say that Acapulco Fresh wears their face masks.
