We needed help with some paperwork and did not have an appointment. The receptionist helped us first by looking into possible appointments and then by checking with James that he had time to help us with a few questions. James was gracious to see us without an appointment. He was very professional and helpful, checking our paperwork and advising us on what additional steps were needed, including providing us with a Harvard phone number to get necessary information. All in all, we had a very good experience and our experience speaks well for both individuals as well as for the office as a whole.

I will preface my experience by stating we are under wealth management by Merrill Lynch and thereby have become accustomed to the "correct" manner in which "seasoned" wealth management financial advisors are taught to interact with their clients. I called Will Swenson to merely request some information on a singular TIAA mutual fund. He called me with information that was totally incorrect. I mentioned the fact to him and his response was, "I believe it is incorrect, also. It does not sound right. Here is the telephone number so YOU CAN CALL AND ATTEMPT TO RECEIVE THE CORRECT INFORMATION." I could not believe my ears. He wanted me to do his work for him! Lazy, disrespectful, arrogant, whatever words you might like to describe his behaviour. He certainly was NOT PROFESSIONAL and by no means working in the capacity of a "FINANCIAL ADVISOR"! My suggestion is to stay away from TIAA. Years ago they had us teachers and professors wellbeing at heart...Not any longer. It is every person for themselves. As an aside, I reported this incident to his top manager, Mark Golden (sp) and was only advised that "Will has been with us for ten years and this is out of character for him." I could not believe it. Perhaps it is time for both Will and Mark to find other jobs!

No one wants to have to call or visit an insurance company. Generally it's hard to understand what…read morethey're talking about, and you're probably not there for a fun reason. I have been insured through A Affordable for about 5 years now. Recently I had a policy cancelled due to nonpayment. I'm not a slacker, I just have a crazy schedule and I missed it. Anyway after dealing with the first part and discovering I needed to sign up with a different insurance company (remember, A Affordable is an AGENCY), I received a call from an employee named Rich M. He actually reached out to me via email, too, so I had the number right in front of me. First thing off the bat was that his hours were great for working people. Not sure if all the agents do this but he was scheduled until 8. So great for me! I called him back on the direct line he had provided and he picked up right away. No phone tree or operators. I had a lot of questions still about why my original policy was canceled. He took the time to look into what had happened, even though I was calling him for a completely different task far down the line. He explained everything to me in a way I could understand before he moved on to signing me up for a new policy. He went ahead, put me on hold and got quotes from the companies A Affordable works with. He came back with the lowest quote, which had nearly doubled from my last policy. Obviously, I was pissed. But, this was not Rich's fault, or A Affordable's fault, or the insurance company's fault. I was the one who had messed up, and now because of the lapse in insurance, my rate was much higher. Rich explained all of that to me. He empathized with me, saying that the same thing had happened to him, and agreed that it sucked. He went through all the processes and explained what to bring to the DMV and what to do afterward. He emailed me electronic forms right then, so I could electronically sign them and send them back immediately. No waiting, no visits to the office. Tomorrow I will go to the DMV and it will be all set. So, even though what happened was shitty, Rich helped me out, didn't make me feel like he was judging me for missing a payment and not realizing for so long, and oddly made me feel better. It was all so convenient. Posting a review is the least I could do for a compassionate guy who made me feel a bit better on a bad day. Thanks Rich!
