Abuela's is a new Tex Mex restaurant in West Monroe that happened to be open and serving "sit down" meals on Easter Sunday, We just happened to be greeted by Magdalena who is also the hostess and our waitress for today. We received our drinks and chips and salsa from BellaBot who's is a restaurant service robot. I had to order extra salsa because the complimentary one is very mild so the extra is an additional $2. It's considered as habanero. The atmosphere was ok with an added personal fire element at each booth. The women's restroom needed some attention. Our meal was great. We both liked the fact that there was ample portions of well seasoned meat on both entrees. Beware that there is a difference in price if you're paying cash versus credit card (there's a fee). Visiting the town for work and a colleague wanted margaritas. Traditional Mexican menu - tacos, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas etc done well. A robot brought us chips and salsa to start. This was so GOOD! I ordered the dinner all protein fajitas! Shrimp, chicken, chorizo, steak seasoning to delight, tender and juicy. $24 is reasonable; the guacamole, pico and sour cream were crisp and fresh, the rice and refried beans comforted my palette. My chips and salsa were brought by a cute robot 3 minutes after being sat. Salsa is nice, I ate every drop. Chips are fresh, if not made in house definitely a local batch. The family style space is great for a meet up or friendly catchup. It was approachable in decor but well maintained and the noise was medium. I will be returning on my next visit to Monroe! The chips were crispy. They looked thick, but they weren't. The salsa was ok. I have had better. There was a robot bringing out complimentary chips & salsa . A person brought mine, but not sure if it was b/c I was a party of 1 or not. I ordered the burrito loco. It was ok. The lettuce, surprisingly, was overpowering the burrito when I mixed it all together. I saw the cheese sauce on the burrito, but couldn't really taste it. We were looking for a new one to try out and came to ABUELA'S. First off very nice ambiance! Second the Robot serving us our chips and dip was surprisingly fun! Third the service was AWESOME!!! Fourth the food was VERY DELICIOUS !!! We've been a couple of times now and are looking forward to our next visit! I try something different every time! And haven't been disappointed with ANYTHING!! Absolutely loved my experience at Abuela's, even with a name change. From the uniforms on the servers to the manager coming by asking how everything was. To the food.. the food was fantastic! I ordered the enchiladas to keep it simply and also I was in the mood for them and they were cooked to perfection. The chips and salsa solidified this already great restaurant. The robot, my step daughter saw was such a cool initiative way to deliver the chips and dip. Also since her birthday is on 12/18 the manager agreed to go ahead and send over the robot and the whole staff to sing happy birthday to her. Which she thought was the coolest thing ever. Even with some confusion about the menu on my wife's part. The situation was taken care of at no extra charge to us. Will definitely be coming back and telling more about my experience. read more

I was really looking forward to trying a local restaurant as a new resident of Monroe. Came in at 8:40 when the restaurant says they close and 9:30. Was going to be seated and then an employee with AirPods came out and said we are closed as the hostess was seating us. Even had the hostess say in Spanish to him that they don't close yet and he shrugged his shoulders to her. Service is why I will not be back in the future. read more

The authentic Mexican taste that we all love was non existence. The food was flavorless and boring. First time eating here. Not like the same old same old other Mexican restaurants. My enchiladas were very seasoned and very good. The Mexican rice was very fresh and fluffy. My husband was happy with his steak soft tacos. The queso was good it wasn't quite as hot as I like it though. The chips were very crispy and brown I like them that way. The waiter was very friendly and accommodating. P. S. The robot was an extra touch even though we had to get up and take the chips and salsa off. I had shrimp ranchero there were at least 14 shrimp. The food was hot and very tasty. Hubby had a steak quesadilla. He said it was tasty and hot. Our server, Johny was very nice and attentive. This is our go to Mexican restaurant. Can't beat their food and their customer service. I feel like part of the family when I go there. My 89 year old mother won't go anywhere else. They treat her with such care even when she goes with her assisted living crew. The food is fresh and flavorful. I've tried many of their dishes and have never been disappointed. Pretty good Mexican food for Monroe! Their quesadilla rellena was crispy, and the ground beef was flavorful. Their Molcajete Abuela was very good! I love the variety of the meat and vegetables in the stone pot. It went well with their soft tortilla and classic sides. The menu said this dish is for two, but honestly it could probably feed three! I have been here several times and each time the food has been delicious. Margaritas are also good and taste u like anyone else's in town. Extremely good!!! This place has the worst service. it's dirty, the staff stands around even when there's no customers, and your food comes out before you even get a sip of drink. No one bothers to bring water to the table. Its a good thing there is a robot that brings the chips. Otherwise, you wouldn't get those either. Will not return. read more

We really enjoyed our visit to Abuela's Restaurant. The service was very good and the food was brought out quickly. As a surprise, the chips and salsa were delivered by a robot which we had never seen before at a restaurant. I had the carnitas plate and my wife had the chicken burrito with a creamy cheese sauce. We went to Abuela's for the experience of having the robot deliver chips and salsa. The robot is pretty cool. The Vegetarian rice bowl is awesome. I loved the different vegetables in it. Grilled green and red peppers, grilled onions, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots. A lot of vegetables over rice. The house dressing is good too. The bowl is a great option if you want a nice bowl without any meat. The only bad thing I have to say is the back dining room where we were taken for a table was pretty dirty. The floors hadn't been swept and there was trash in the floor. Couple of tables not cleaned off. And there wasn't any reason for that dining area to not be cleaned. It wasn't busy back there and our waiter kept walking right past the mess. We ate lunch there on Valentines Day and it was totally different. There was fresh flowers on the tables. Balloons over the tables. Everything was clean. It was somewhat disappointing to go the next time and it was dirty. Hopefully it was just a fluke but when I mentioned it to the hostess she didn't act like she cared about the trash at all. I'll go again just because I like the vegetarian bowl but I'll sit in the front dining room. I'd go back for the chip/salsa delivering robot lol read more
