I don't normally write reviews, but this place deserves one. I'm a truck driver from Houston, so I spend a LOT of time on the road and eat at restaurants all over the country. Most days it's the same burgers, pizza, fast food, or another place calling something "fajitas" that ends up being nothing like what I'm used to back home. I actually noticed afterward that this place has around a 3.4 on Yelp, and I was genuinely surprised. I can't speak for anybody else's experience, and maybe other people came on different days, but I can only review the experience I had -- and mine was excellent. I've seen complaints about the restaurant itself, but that wasn't my experience whatsoever. The place was clean, comfortable, spacious, and had a nice atmosphere. It's actually a pretty large establishment with plenty of room. The temperature inside was comfortable, the AC was working perfectly fine, and nothing about the restaurant felt dirty, run-down, uncomfortable, or neglected. I was seated almost immediately and taken care of right away. The young lady serving me was extremely nice and attentive throughout my entire meal. I usually eat alone while I'm working, so I'm pretty simple -- sit down, order, put a movie or something on my phone, enjoy my food, and get back on the road. I don't need anything fancy. I just appreciate good food and good service, and that's exactly what I got. Now the fajitas... THAT is what made me want to write this review. I ordered steak, chicken, and shrimp, and all three were genuinely good. The quality of the meat stood out immediately. The steak didn't taste or feel like some cheap cut of meat. The shrimp were great, and the chicken especially impressed me. I've had way too many places serve these huge, thick pieces of chicken that end up dry, or chicken that's so wet it feels more like guisado than grilled fajitas. This wasn't that. The chicken had a good cut, good texture, good seasoning, and actually tasted grilled. The whole skillet came out sizzling hot with the steak, chicken, shrimp, peppers, and onions, and I tore that shit up. Rice and beans were good. Nothing crazy -- they're rice and beans -- but absolutely no complaints. I would've loved some handmade tortillas, but the flour tortillas they served were perfectly fine. Drink size was good, portions were generous, and the food came out FAST. I want to say I waited less than 10 minutes. Price-wise, it's not the cheapest place in the world, but it isn't ridiculously expensive either. For the amount of food I received and, more importantly, the quality of the meat, I felt like I got my money's worth. I also want to give credit to my server. She was genuinely kind and attentive. I only had enough to leave a $5 tip that day, and I actually felt bad because the service deserved more. If I had more to give her, I would've gladly done it. My biggest complaint? This place isn't anywhere near my house. If this restaurant were back home around Houston, I'd absolutely come back. Unfortunately, being on the road means some of the best places I find might be hundreds of miles away. So if you're passing through like me and you're looking at that rating wondering whether you should give this place a chance, all I can tell you is what happened when I walked through the door: clean restaurant, comfortable atmosphere, quick service, an attentive server, a huge plate of sizzling food, and some damn good steak, chicken, and shrimp fajitas. I came in hungry, left full and happy, and I'd stop here again without hesitation if one of my routes brings me back through. That's an easy 5 stars from me. read more

Went on Saturday night about an hour before they closed, so it wasn't busy at all. We got seated and served right away! The service was super nice and attentive. We asked a lot of questions, and she was really helpful and patient with us. She also checked up on us throughout the whole time, which we really appreciated. We were really happy and satisfied with everything we got, and I definitely recommend trying these: * Peach Margarita Pitcher: A whole pitcher of margaritas for $22?! This is such a steal! It was so good, and I really liked that it was actually strong, which I love. * Steak, Shrimp & Chicken Fajitas (Double): The one in the picture is the double portion because our server recommended it since she thought the single might not be enough for both of us. But the double was actually a HUGE amount of food! Both of us were completely full, and we still had a lot left over to bring home. Even my husband, who can eat a lot, was stuffed. And of course, the fajitas were delicious! Also, you MUST order the creamy green sauce! And definitely try the green hot sauce they have on the table too. They are both really spicy, but they make the food taste so much better. If you like spicy food, you definitely need to try them! I think our bill came out to almost $100 for the two of us, but honestly, we were both completely full, had plenty of leftovers, and also got a whole pitcher of drinks. I do not normally write negative reviews but others deserve to know before visiting this particular establishment as it was pure chaos. We arrived with our softball team so we were expecting it to take longer that normal but the issues kept piling up. We called ahead to make reservation and the person on the phone told us they would be able to handle our party with no issue. They assigned us one waiter for a group of 30. It took nearly 40 minutes for some of us to get our drinks; i never received mine.. Some in our party decided to go to the bar at the rear of the establishment but complained of no service and fruit flies. The floors throughout the restaurant were slippery with an oil film. I was constantly getting drips of water from the AC vent above table. Food only came out after 2 hours when so.eone in our group opened kitchen door and said that surely something must be ready. Then they started scurrying with carts and trays. I ordered the pork street tacos but instead got chicken bits covered in sauce trying to pass for pork. Went I went to rear of restaurant they appeared to be more than enough waiters so I do not know why they only sent one. When we finally received our bill it was almost $80 for two adults and one child and that was after we argued that we did not get several of the items ordered. read more

They have a very extensive many with a lot of different options. My go-to dish is the fajitas or street tacos. They also have 2-for-1 margaritas some days. It is a casual place and good food at a decent price. The service is always good when I go, but I tend to go during weekdays when it isn't too busy. read more

I frequent this restaurant with my boyfriend and his family a few times a month. The margaritas are top tier and usually BOGO! My favorite is the fish tacos, and the servers always suggest different sauces to try on them. Last visit I branched out and got the President tacos, and it's a new go to for me. Love the queso, we have had it plain, chorizo, the Cajun with crawfish, and with ground beef, it never disappoints! read more

We were traveling through from Texas to Atlanta, but I will tell you what, the Don Julio margarita fantastic, T-bone steak, nachos, baked taco salad, and fajitas, and tableside guacamole, all yummy yummy yummy. Taste was on point. Maybe some of the rating has to with the prices, A wee bit on the higher side however totally worth it. Well done El Jarrito. Very bad experience. Started out OK with a large basket of chips and salsa. I also ordered queso dip which was good. Only two waitresses and one was also the cashier and the place was pretty full for evening meal. They were run pretty hard. But the food! Ugh. I ordered a Trio Wrap and my wife ordered salmon with mango salad. The waitress did tell us the meal would take a little longer due to cooking the salmon. It came in a reasonable amount of time but the salmon was way overcooked, dry and almost hard. My wrap only had a few strips of steak, a few shrimp and hardly any chicken with a little lettuce and a few onions. No guacamole, no sour cream, no pico, no sauce at all. It was barely warm and dry as a bone. The tortilla was dry and actualy hard to cut with a knife. I pointed out to the waitress there was no guacamole or sour cream and she said "yes there is, but I will bring you more". After pouring some salsa over it and spooning guacamole and sour cream it was edible, but cold. The waitress never came back to check on us and we waited a good 10 -15 minutes after we finished eating for her to show up. We asked for the check and when she brought it she told us, over her shoulder as she was walking away, to pay up front. (and she was the cashier) Way understaffed and the quality of the food was horrible. And then there was a 10.45% tax added! Wow! Not a good experience. read more

We visited this restaurant today for a late lunch/early supper with a group of 9 people. We all ordered meals priced $10+ and 2 large cheese dips. We had 4 baskets of chips prior to the meal and asked for additional chips. He brought out 3 baskets, then told us that it would be an additional charge for more chips and salsa. Then he made up a rule of 2 baskets of chips for one cheese dip and 3 baskets of chips per table. You can tell he made it up on the spot. We got our ticket and they had 3-$3 charges for steak added to our bill on top of the menu item. We ordered steak fundido that was listed for $11 on the menu. They proceeded to tell us that they had a sign in the lobby about this additional fee. We did not see the sign due to 7 of the 9 people in our group walking from the parking lot straight to the patio without going through the lobby. The menu did not mention anything about an additional fee for steak. The menu stated the price that we saw. We asked the waiter about the charge and he said it is posted in lobby. I told him that we never saw it due to it not being posted at the patio entrance. He took it to a lady who came back and was basically that is the way it is. I said no, the price needs to be fixed. This is false advertising. After a long wait, they finally fixed the ticket. This is not the first bad experience I have had at this restaurant. I highly recommend that you go to the Mexican restaurant next to Academy for (Don Chuy) for a better experience and better food. This is my last visit to El Jarrito. read more

My husband and I went to this place. Every dish we were served with was not clean. From the previous reviews, we thought the place would be awesome. However, we did not get the opportunity to taste the food due to the uncleanliness. The bowls had dried food and a used straw wrapping attached to the bottom, as if they were washed and dried with that on there. The cute little salsa pitcher had a greenish film that you could scrap off with your finger. Even the chip basket had some unknown substance all over it. We had to get out of there. I was on a road trip and came by this wonderful place! The waiter was nice, the price was good, and the food was delicious!! The only "bad" thing about my experience was the slightly lengthy wait- but it was worth every second. The experience may vary depending on time and circumstance, but I visited around 1pm for lunch. 3 Stars at best. Great Location and not a bad atmosphere. We sat in front of the bar area at lunch time and admired the layout and warm feeling. (my son is a granite mason) He was impressed with the granite tops but we both questioned the rock work. Either way it is well done and looks really sharp. The food well...they need to work on it. Everything was OK but not good or great by a long shot. I ordered Cheese Enchiladas with chili con carne sauce. IT TASTED LIKE SPAGHETTI SAUCE. I hate to say it, but I'm really disappointed with the service and the food here. Ordered a child's beef enchilada with rice and cheese sauce on top with a water. They brought me a chicken enchilada with rice. The chicken was cold, very chewy and had no flavor at all. My brother never got to order so it took me well over 10 mins to flag down anyone and when I finally got a little ladies attention I asked her if he could order and if my friend could have his cup of water that he had already asked for three different times she laughed at me and walked off.
