Well, here we are, 26 days since their negligent work, and not one word from them. Apparently there are two more recent reviews than mine also giving this company one star reviews so obviously I'm not alone. The inspector from the registrar of contractors came over yesterday and noted that above par never responded to him either. So, my ceiling still has two big gaping holes in it, my AC is still not fixed, and he's even ghosting the home warranty company. If anybody ever fantasized about going through what we're going through, by all means call Above Par. If that's not your cup of tea, you can literally call anyone else and I'm sure you'll get more competent professional service. I give this company a negative 5 stars. I of course had AC issues in the summer in PHX. No surprise there lol. I was assigned this company by my home warranty co. They came out the next day & was early. I had to pay some out of pocket I wasn't expecting because the unit was older & required some expensive refrigerant. Clay was informative, professional & explained the repairs needed. The unit was happy & stayed that way after his diagnosis & repair. Fast forward a month. The smaller unit started having issues again because my larger unit needed to be replaced & wasn't working at all. This lg unit was being handled by another contractor that my home warranty had assigned me. So I requested a follow up call on the smaller AC. Clay was my tech again. He showed up early the next day. Come to find out this smaller AC that Above Par worked on was working OT & just wasn't able to cool properly. The unit itself was still working A-OK but just couldn't keep up because of the AZ heat & being the smaller of the 2 units trying to cool 2500 sq ft. I'd recommend Above Par & Clay 100%. read more

Home warranty sent them out. The house was at 85 degrees and wouldn't go down past that (in August). Tech came out and left without doing anything. Said they couldn't find anything wrong. I asked the tenant if he took a temperature reading from the vent. "No he held his hand up to the vent and said he could feel cool air". Called the Above Par office and the girl said she would talk to the tech. Then she called back with "Well he (her tech) said it's really hot today and humid". I asked her "Is your house at 85 degrees? And would you be happy if someone came out to fix your AC and said "Well it's really hot today". She was told that he didn't even complete a temperature differential test of the intake and output temperature. She said she'd call him and call me back. They never did call back. I called the warranty company and they sent another company out who fixed the problem. read more

Service felt like a scam ! Quoted 2000$ estimate for simple blown capacitor. Got second opinion and got it fixed in 20 mins for 250$. Tried to overcharge us by quoting wrong issues and adding unnecessary labor and parts expenses. Turned off whole system including fan saying it is required, trying to force us to go with their service and made us suffer in our home in 100F Arizona heat. read more

My unit wasn't cooling and I was dreading the path to get it repaired. In the middle of an Arizona summer, AC repairs/parts can be hard to come by. I called Above Par and spoke with Clay at 10am and he said that he could get me in that afternoon. At 3pm, Clay text me to let me know he was on his way. He inspected the unit and determined that I needed a new capacitor which, thankfully he had on hand. Clay had me back up and running within 30 minutes of arriving. He also made payment very easy by sending a text to my phone with a link to process payment. AC problems are an inconvenience and trying to fit in a repair amongst a busy work schedule is challenging. Overall, I was without AC for under 24 hours which is definitely not bad. I've had such a terrible experience with Above Par Heating & Air. They are the worst vendors as well as my home warranty company. If I could give a negative 5 star review I would. I've now gone without AC for a total of 15 days in Arizona summer heat!! I've been documenting all contact date and times, no one returns my calls. They were not a company I wanted to give my business to. They tried to upsell and charge me for extras (without even fully diagnosing the machine). They tried to overcharge for freon and claimed I needed more than my entire system could hold. If you are not very savvy about these units you would certainly get taken. I will agree with other reviews that they did show up same day, so they can have another star for that, but I found much more honest HVAC companies out there. read more

Was assigned Above Par by AHS home warranty. I left over 10 messages and never received a call back. Then they just set an appointment with AHS without notifying me for a time that did not work for me 4 days later in 107 degree heat. They showed up and no one was home and are now trying to collect the service call fee.... read more

Clay and Rigo got it done! Our unit was not working well. They are busy, but found time to come out pretty quickly. They diagnosed it as a faulty compressor. While the unit was 14 years old, they were able to locate the original part. New compressor installed, new capacitor, filter on the coolant line and we are back up and running. Prompt. Friendly staff and service persons. Called me to advise when he would arrive. Reasonable and seemed honest price without the up-sale. Was bracing for a weekend service visit charge but was quite pleased with my service. Recommended by my earlier home warranty coverage and was impressed by their work that I hired them again and will in the future. It's the first 110 degree day here in Arizona and my AC shits the bed. Im watching the thermostat in my house quickly rise from 78 to 96. I need an AC guy quick. It was late in the day around 5:30pm and I call Above Par. I told him I have no air, he says " No problem, Im finishing a job and Ill be right over." He shows up like he said he would. Its dark and he and his partner work without missing a beat. It's about 8:30pm and he is through...with my job at least. He tells me he is on his way to Fountain Hills then to Chandler! Good spirits and attitude the whole time. I have a 12 year old system that I know needs to be replaced and will fail completely one day. I kniow this but Im squeezing all the air out of this rock until it wont give anymore and right now it's running ice cold and blowing hard! Well, the next morning the bracket broke and we lost our AC again. I called Above Par to let him know. He came out, again accomodating the time I was available and fixed the problem....no charge. I want to add that this was a seperate incident too. The guy that owns the company is Austin and he is knowledgeable and efficient. I hope his company serves as a model for other HVAC guys. High integrity, reasonable pricing and knows the business they're in. I will be replacing my unit the same day it croaks and I will be using Above Par when the time comes. read more

Please consider taking your business to a more professional company. We have been lied to, accused of lying, yelled at in our own home, and the contractor quoted three separate times when he would come out to make the repair and he did not show up. This company was referred to us by Old Republic Home Protection, and after nine days, we are still without air conditioning. It is now 1 pm and contractor told us yesterday he would be here at 9 am. If he shows up today he will be 4 or more hours late. read more

I've had a horrible experience with American Home Shield Warranties and was hesitant to even make a claim knowing they will routinely deny coverage. Imagine my surprise when Austin showed up, promptly diagnosed the issue with the air handler, ordered the part and returned the next day to install it. Professional all the way. I was impressed enough to attempt to schedule him to check out my air conditioning before summer arrives. He deferred saying it is better to do a check-up when the weather turns warmer. How many service folks turn down business when its in the best interest of the customer. This will be my go-to-guy for any heating or air conditioning issues I have. read more

The owner and his crew came in a very timely manner and was on time to our appointment, he was very friendly and knowledgable and took time to explain things to me about what was going in with my unit on the roof. When the new unit came within just a day or two I was surprised and very happy with the installation and how everything went. I was very skeptical dealing with a company I have never dealt with before just because I am a young homeowner and thought any company would try and take advantage of the situation. Why give a window if the service tech is going to come at any time they want? Below Par Heating and Cooling. Referred to by my home warranty company. My appointment was scheduled between 8 and 10am. When that time came and went I called and learned I was never added to the schedule. They made it out around 7pm. The technicians were friendly, but never actually figured out what was causing the noise. They changed the capacitor, but the noise remained. I called the home warranty company to have the issue revisited. Suddenly today, an employee from Below Par that didn't look at the unit (because he was never there) had figured out what was causing the noise. This "problem" wasn't covered under the warranty, but they would gladly do the work for $1800. Think I'll go to an honest company for the work. read more

Great Company; High Level of Expertise; Friendly; Convenient I bought a new house a couple of years ago and had some issues with the AC (which was new). I had filed three claims with my home warranty company and they were sending out another company and problems kept recurring. I was really, really frustrated becuase I felt like it wasn't being fixed properly and I kept having to pay deductibles and take time off work, on top of being out of AC in the summer. I finally complained loudly and they sent out Above Par. Above Par asked me a few questions over the phone and knew what kind of unit it was and what the problem was right away. The came out in the evening so I didn't have to take off work again, quickly fixed the problem, and answered all the questions I had about my system. They REALLY REALLY knew what they were doing. He even diagnosed why my shower was smelling so bad! I have had 2 plumbers, a leak specialist and the City of Phoenix out and they couldn't figure it out! He figured it out right away. My A/C went out on a very hot August day. I had a home warranty and the first company that was contacted by the warranty company told me they could not come out for 48 hours. Luckily, when I called my warranty company they gave me the number to Above Par. A technician was at my home within 2 hours and stayed until 7pm to fix my unit that night. Thank you, Above-Par! American Home Shield sent Above Par Heating & Cooling to my home on 4/28/2016. Nathan was very late but polite and spent over an hour searching for the leak in my unit. He advised me that he located the leak, repaired it then ran sealant through the lines. The unit was working until 8/4/2016 when we learned there is another or the same leak that should have been detected/fixed during the initial repair and the 12 pounds of Freon that I paid out of pocket was completely drained from the unit. When I tried to contact the company to have them come back out and follow up on their work they let me know that they were to busy and to have the warranty company send them the work order, unfortunately they were on hold with AHS and now I need to have another company come and work on my unit. When you work on something you should stand by your work and not pawn it off. read more

Sub par service. . . Was referred by my home warranty company due to my heater not blowing air. Convinced me that my indoor coil needed to be cleaned because it was "clogged" and that was the reason air was not coming thought the system. Oh yeah, that's not covered by the warranty (typical right?). He was not able to make an appointment for another week, so I had another company come to clean it the next day. Surprise surprise, that wasn't the issue. So I had him come out and check the unit again. He said the same thing, it's still clogged, they didn't clean it good enough. I asked him to check the fan was working, the wiring and everything else to make sure that was definitely the problem. He confirmed that everything was operational and it needs to be recleaned. I had the other company come out and recheck the system, they recleaned the coil for me and explained that that is definitely not the issue. I spent 4 hours with the other company on a Saturday trouble shooting everything and it all came down to a faulty wire on the system. Which I asked him to check. This company does not diagnose problems they just choose a possible option and hope for the best. I hope their policy isn't to just choose the option by what isn't covered by the warranty first and see if that's it. I've heard horror stories like this with home warrantys, never thought I'd have that issue. I hope you're experience is not as negative as mine. read more

I rent and the apartment owner put in a request with the insurance company to have our air conditioner serviced. After 3 days of no word, my landlord emailed me the confirmation with Above Par as the contractor. I called the number given and the man who answered said he didn't know he was on a roof and would email me. I received an email the next day saying he didn't have a w/o for us. SO the next day I called the insurance company not wanting to bother the owner with the stress when I could take care of it. The insurance company re sent the w/o to the contractor. I called him back and again he was on a roof, I asked him to call me back please and I did not get a call back. I called him the next day and he said he didn't call me back because he didn't have a number for me, yet my information was on his phone....... needless to say he promised to call me back when he was off the roof and I did not receive a call from him. We are still waiting 8 days later for service. Clearly unprofessional and cannot handle his work load. read more
