Great Place! I live in the neighborhood and have wanted to stop in for some time now. Last Friday I stopped in for a nightcap on my way home. I sat at the bar, ordered my drink and struck up a conversation with the bartender. I was glad to find out it was a family business. I prefer to frequent the "mom & pop shops" rather than the chains. She showed me a menu and I noticed several things I wanted to try. I ended up ordering a pizza to take home. For me....I judge pizza not only how it is when it's hot....but also how it is the next morning when it's cold. I happen to like cold pizza. This pizza was the best I've had in a long time.....both hot and fresh....and cold the next day. I will definitely be going back for more and to try some other things on the menu. I've driven by this place so many times, glad I finally gave it a try. Had the pizza fries as an appetizer, then the chicken salad sandwich for my meal. The sandwich was incredible, had a lot of unique ingredients that I wasn't expecting at all. After my meal I was easily convinced to buy a piece of peanut butter cup cheesecake. My friend Marilyn and I checked out this place the other day for lunch. The parking lot was empty except for their catering van making me think they were closed. Thankfully they were not. I will never understand why some places just don't catch on. The food is great. The waitstaff is wonderful. Everything works and yet the place isn't clicking. The waitress informed me the place had been open for two years which really surprised me because I honestly thought it had just opened. I think the place needs a cosmetic makeover and perhaps with that and some ads on TV the word will finally get out there because this is a very special establishment. I am Jewish-Sicilian and getting really good Jewish or Sicilian food is becoming more and more difficult after one chain after another completely eradicates any genuine sense of self. Sure the Olive Garden isn't bad, but it's not like the Italian restaurants that my family used to go to when I was a kid. The Spaghetti Company on Som was always a treat. When the waitress mentioned that all of the food was homemade I became very excited because homemade is not a word you hear these days. I ordered the Mingucci Grinder which is 3 house made meatballs in a toasted hoagie bun with sausage, cheese and marinara sauce. It is a huge portion and all for $9. When it came out I could immediately tell the waitress wasn't kidding when she said homemade. You can just tell a homemade meatball from some frozen aberration that a restaurant tries to pass off as "homemade." I actually said to the waitress that I felt like there had to be an Italian grandmother in the kitchen because these meatballs tasted just like the ones my own grandma Sophie would make when we'd go there for Sunday dinners. And surprise there really is an Italian grandmother who does come and offer her expertise. Her name is Nana and I am not kidding in the least little bit when I say change the name to Nana's and make her the face of the place because I guarantee once that happens this restaurant will find itself hopping and will become a destination for anyone and everyone who is seeking a truly spot on Italian joint that is all about making you feel like you're home again. Marilyn had the Stromboli and also commented on how out of this world the meatballs are. I cannot wait to go back and try their pizza and their desserts. I live in New York City and my parents took me here because I loved the pizza they ordered last week, and I was so impressed with our dishes at the restaurant. The service is terrible. The food was good. First time I went in there I waited ten minutes for a waitress to come out in the restaurant. She came out & cleaned a table instead of waiting on me 1st. I walked right out & told her how long I waited & cleaning a table. I went in the following week about the same time in mid afternoon & a manager had to wait on me. Ordered a Veggie and Pepperoni pizza for pick up. Veggie is LOADED! Crust is on the thin side which was fine as my family prefers it this way. No great. We ordered take out and it was unsatisfactory. The chicken Parmesan was bland and the bread was burnt. We also ordered the a Caesar salad, it was very plain. Croutons, poorly chopped romaine lettuce, and Parmesan cheese that looked like the kind you shake on to pizza. The dressing tasted like it was store bought. We ordered takeout today for lunch 3/27/2018. Quite a few things went wrong. Website has wrong prices, they made the wrong pizza, but made new, but in the mean time the fried provolone that was order had gotten cold and hard, and the diet coke ordered was expired from May 2017. When we called back to talk to the owner he did nothing to rectify the situation. He had excuses for everything and argued that he gave us the wrong pizza for free which never happened. Never offered to replace the coke or reimburse us. Customer service is terrible!! read more

Was excited to see this place going up right around the corner. We had the rice ball appetizer at the recommendation of the waitress. It was very good. Again at the recommendation of the waitress had the chicken michelina which we waited 45 minutes for. The chicken was almost impossible to cut let alone eat. The manager came over and ask how we liked the meal and we told him we couldn't eat the chicken. He said that was too bad and walked away. AWFUL EXPERIENCE!!!! I have been there multiple times and always enjoyed the food. This time I ordered Lobster Mac-n-Cheese and when it arrived it looked was surronded by the oil from the cheese which I know happens alot with cheese but it tasted awful. It was more like orzo with cheese and sprinkled with very small pieces of lobster. The lobster was not mixed with the pasta and cheese. The server came over and I said I didn't liked it and asked if I can have something in exchange. She sent the extremely rude "Manager" over and he said "So you don't like my food" and I said I don't, it's not what I imagined mac-n-cheese to be and I asked for something different. He said "We don't give handouts, if you don't like the food that's ok, don't come back" He also said his chef was from Philadelphia and had won awards for the dish. I know that is not accurate. We were not disappointed - food, service and the owners were all great. We've been back multiple times now and have never had anything we didn't like. This was the worst meal I have ever had! Ordered the cavatells with meatballs, the sauce was supposed to be marinara but it tasted like some watered down unknown sauce and the meatballs were tasteless, dry and burnt. I had the Chicken Michelina: pasta deliciously seasoned with EVOO and garlic juxtaposed to a scrumptious chicken breast with melted cheese sitting on a bed of spinach . Quite different than what I might make at home. The staff are warm welcoming, friendly and attentive. And they have the whole menu available for carry out! I wanted to walk up to the bar for a drink/take out, I attempt to order a corona and lime and he guy is holding my "cold" beer for like 5 min while he is talking to the staff in uniform. Wanted very much to like this place, I pass it every day and would love to have a close restaurant to make a regular stop. First let's talk about the restaurant itself and the service. Inside and out it's very clean and neat and still smells like a new building, which is great for a restaurant. The tables are this wonderful wood and the light fixtures look like someone actually put some time and effort into choosing them. Our server was very friendly and came back often to check on drinks and such. Now the food, this is where it takes a nose dive. As an appetizer, I got the sausage stuffed peppers, which were fantastic and the other in my party got the pizza fries, I don't even like eggplant and I thought they were good. My dinner was the shrimp and linguini with garlic cream sauce. The only thing good about this dish was the texture of the pasta. The sauce was a dingy color that looked and smelled like it was burned. It had that smokey taste like some of it burned and the unburnt was served. It was also visibly greasy. The shrimp was the biggest disappointment, it was tightly curled and small which is usually an indication it's over cooked. It was also tough and chewy, and I mean cheap over cooked steak level of tough and chewy, and very dry. I was very disappointed. The other person in my party got the lasagna, it was 2 giant noodles with about 1/8" of cheese sandwiched in between and some sauce over top. When I asked how was it, the response was "eh" with a shoulder shrug. We ordered a large pepperoni pizza to go for someone who couldn't get out of work in time to meet us for dinner. It came and I decided since I couldn't eat my food, I'd try that. It had a great appearance and I was excited, especially after reading the good reviews on here! No go. The pizza was dry, without very much sauce, which could just be their style, not a big deal. It was VERY greasy, not the kind of "oh ya!" greasy pizza, but the bad kind of greasy, like all the fat had been pulled out of the cheese and pepperoni from over cooking. Barely any cheese and a burnt garlic powder taste, anyone who cooks knows that odd burned garlic taste. The crust edge was also very crunchy, sort of like those hard bread sticks. We had ordered the fried dough as a dessert, that I have to say was fantastic, sort of chewy on the outside and perfect on the inside. It was covered in honey and powered sugar. I couldn't get enough! Now the worst part of all, we took the pizza home and chatted with the 3rd person while he ate. He's normally a HUGE pizza fan and said he was starving. He ate one and a half pieces, put it in the fridge and made a PB&J. That was around 6pm. By 9ish, everyone in the house was sick with upset stomachs. Obviously not food poisoning or anything nefarious like that, but most certainly unpleasant. Normally, if I get bad service, or one bad item I'll give a restaurant another chance, not this time. I nor anyone else in my house have any desire to spend hours in the bathroom again or $80 (no alcohol) on food that's not edible. read more

No complaints about anything here. The decor is very cool and you can tell they paid attention to every little detail and spent some real money on it --- so it's not the typical Mayfield area bar that are all either bad sports bars or gross dive bars. The layout was ideal for a half restaurant/half bar type of place. It had a big U-shaped bar that seats probably around 25 (?), and 3 huge flat screen TVs. The staff were all extremely friendly (AND competent!) and easy to talk to. Great menu. The food was as good as you'll get anywhere in the area. We had the white pizza and it was superb. We also had some meatballs (on sale: $1 per meatball), and those too were great. They also have a solid selection of craft beers that they said will continuously change each season or so. I would definitely go here again and also recommend Abo's Grill to my friends. read more

I went to Abo's Grill this past Saturday night, 4/8/17. I got there around 8pm and there was a nice crowd. I was by myself so chose to sit at the bar. I was immediately approached by Joe who took my drink order immediately. He then handed me the menu and then explained the specials. The best part about the specials was that he literally had pictures of what it was and how it looked (Cod, short rib, mussels)! I thought that was a very nice touch and I saw him do that with others. They are also serving a Lobster Mac and Cheese that won the "Best of" in Philadelphia not to long ago. I decided that I wanted to have an Italian meal, so I started off with the meatball appetizer. Dear God 3 meatballs the perfect size in a beautiful blush sauce that had small drops of balsamic reduction. I honestly think they were the best meatballs I ever ate. I chose my entrée to be the Gnocchi. Best damn choice. They were so light and the sauce again, a light white cream sauce - TO DIE FOR. As I was eating, a very nice man came over to ask me how everything was - turns out he was the owner and his name was Sam. I told him how wonderful everything was and he explained to me that the reason the gnocchi was so light was because they are made with Ricotta Cheese and are not dough based. Seriously, so damn good my stomach wants to go there again just typing this. I wish this restaurant the best and highly recommend it to others! The owner built it from the ground up and the atmosphere is so relaxed. Very comfortable. Especially for those who dine alone! Like me! Give them a try - you won't regret it! read more

I've been to Abo's twice now for lunch on a weekend. I enjoyed the food and was happy to see a variety of sandwiches on the menu...even a BLT and grilled cheese. I like that! The first time I ate there I got the chicken salad sandwich and was pleasantly surprised it was not the gloppy mayo based chicken salad you usually get, but rather dressed in what seemed like a balsamic dressing of some sort. It was outstanding on the toasted ciabatta roll. The younger owner came out and we had a nice conversation. The second time I went in I got the grilled chicken sandwich. It was obviously marinaded in something and was tasty but the sandwich needs mayo or some nice little sauce on it. With nothing but a toasted bun, lettuce and tomato, it was somewhat dry. The chef seems creative so I think they can come up with something fun for that sandwich. The part that bugged me -- when I walked in, the man who I suspected who was the owner was there standing behind the bar, talking to a customer. I travel a lot, so I dine alone often and when I walked in he looked at me like "what do you want?" I had to ask him if I could sit down anywhere, etc. (Wake up!) He stared at me a great deal of the time that I ate which bothered me a lot. He finally came over and asked me if the food was ok and after all the staring I didn't even want to talk to him. I would have asked the waitress for mayo for the sandwich but she never came back until later, she was too busy paying attention to the table behind me who ordered a pizza and I think were either friends or family of the owner. By the time anyone came back to my table I was nearly done with my sandwich. These little things matter. Having said that, the place is very clean, food is extremely fresh and good, and I will try the pizza next time (getting it take out) or maybe come back for dinner. I'm not giving up on Abo's. I wish them luck and hope they stay open. My advice is don't get so freaked out by people dining alone. read more

First of all when we walked in there was no one to greet us, it wasn't until we were in the middle of the restaurant that a man came over and gave us the option of the bar or backless seats at a high top. This was only the beginning, the young waitress was very inexperienced and inattentive. There was no wine, beer or cocktail list offered so we just had water. We had to wait a good 10-15 min before the waitress showed up again to take our order. We noticed the people eating at the bar were offered bread and olive oil, however our served did not bring any. Once the appetizer came out the waitress appeared to disappear not once filling our glasses unless we flagged her down. We waited another 20 minutes for our pizza which was tasty. The owner we think finally came to our table and asked how are pizza was. There was no effort to acknowledge us prior although it was apparent he was very friendly to what we believed were his friends. I would not dine in again for a new restaurant there are poorly trained staff and an indifferent owner. read more
