It felt like I was going to a trusted friend for help... except it was for such a large problem (totally out of my wheel house) in my eyes. I truthfully was dreading hearing about the $$ or the job needed. I should've asked the name of the gentleman who helped me, but I was so taken back by his friendliness and compassion for the issue I had today. In the opportunity to make more $$ off of my issue, he went above and beyond to be an amazing human and help me right on the spot. He took time to ask me about how it happened and encouraged me to be more cautious (in such a caring way). Thank you for going above and beyond for me today. You turned a bad situation into one that made me feel so appreciative and fortunate. Also side note- I used Chat GPT to find the best auto repair shop in the Monterey area and this place was #1! They are 100% right!! Thank you for all that you did today. I highly suggest this shop to any and all people needing auto repair as they truly care.

I recommend Manny and Victor enthusiastically…read more My fabulous independent auto mechanic insisted they were the only local body shop that came into question after my vehicle had a modest collision. Manny and Victor are artisans who care deeply about their craft. Despite a casual vibe and ramshackle office, they run a well-organized shop, including seamless, quick engagement with insurance. They have deep integrity, I trust them fundamentally. And they're incredibly nice, too. Even better, they're patient, and I'm curious and thorough in a way that sometimes tests people's patience. I hope not to need the services of a body shop again anytime soon, but if I do, it's such a relief knowing that I'll be working with such trustworthy, capable, nice people.

Debby did a great job coordinating everything, and I was able to get in the very next day for a quote. Overall, great service from start to finish. This is what a genuinely family-owned business should feel like…read more Every part of the experience feels personal. One of the owners comes out, talks to you directly, and makes you feel like he remembers you and your specific situation. It doesn't feel scripted or like someone just trying to provide "good customer service." There is a genuine concern for what happened to your vehicle. I especially appreciated their honesty. If something can reasonably be fixed, they'll make the effort to fix it rather than automatically making it into a bigger repair. At the same time, they're very upfront about the reality of the damage, what can and can't be done. Pricing was fair, communication was excellent, and a special mention to Clara at the front desk. Each time we interacted she was friendly and informed. Nobody enjoys having to take their vehicle to a shop, but Gene's made the experience as pleasant as it possibly could have been.

I had what should have been a straightforward repair after a deer hit my front fender. Based on a…read morerecommendation, I brought my truck to Gene's. The job involved replacing the fender, side mirror, and polishing the driver's side window. I was initially told it would take about a week. After 7-8 days, I called and was told it would be another day, which was fine. I picked up the truck after getting the call that it was ready, but I was in a rush and it was parked in the shade, so I didn't catch everything right away. Almost immediately after leaving, I noticed the window hadn't been polished as discussed, and the replacement side mirror was loose and bounced while driving--unlike the original OEM mirror. The next day, more issues became obvious. The headlight didn't fit properly against the new fender (there was a large gap), and the "Tacoma" badge was missing. I contacted them, and to their credit, they agreed to fix the issues. However, that meant another appointment, several more days without my truck, and another rental. When I got it back again, it looked better--but this is work that should have been done correctly the first time. Afterward, I noticed the paint blending was poorly done and doesn't match well at all in sunlight. At that point, I chose not to go back again, but it pisses me off every time I see it. To top it off, when I later replaced my headlights, I discovered a mounting screw was never reinstalled on the driver's side. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience with multiple oversights, extra time and inconvenience, and workmanship that didn't meet expectations. I can't recommend this shop. Really bummed, as this place has good reviews. I must have gotten a beginner working on my truck :( Just a shoddy job.
