Our A/C quit working when the first bout of 90 degree weather hit us. After some checking we learned that our 21 yr old heat pump needed to be replaced. We decided to go with Able Air. Ethan DeCamp and his co-worker Fernando (?) worked hard and long replacing our heat pump with a new one, which was a long work day for them. They were thorough, thoughtful and helpful with information and questions. They cleaned up and removed all the old equipment. I waited to put in a review until we had some time to test out the system. We have to admit that it's great. We'll have them service our unit annually from now on. TL:DR - these are the best folks around if you need any heating and cooling services. Please feel free to read my story below if you are at all considering to be a customer. I give my highest recommendation to Able Air. Okay... you're curious enough to read on, so here is my story. It is a bit lengthy, but I feel I owe it to Russ and his folks. Today (June 28th, 2021) is set to be another recording breaking day with temperatures over 110 degrees F in King County, WA. I am fortunate enough to have an AC unit, which is 11 years old and normally in good working condition. It was installed by the company that was contracted by the builder when I purchased my home. I continued to use this company through a maintenance plan (10 years and renewed it for another 5 years). It was last serviced in August, 2020, and it was reported to be working well and the system was in good order. Well, it was working well until I really needed it! It stopped working yesterday--early in the morning--during a heat wave event, on a Sunday of all days. It is understandable that when systems are stressed (like through this heat wave), things will fail (which I why I was willing to pay for the service plan to prevent it from failing the best I could). I did my best to troubleshoot once it did fail (i.e. turn off AC and leave fan on in case it was a frozen coil, but had good air flow still, so it was likely the capacitor or worse - a compressor that had gone bad). Consequently, I desperately reached out to my service provider, which I had been a loyal customer for 11 years. Well, I got a message that all emergency appointments were booked and to leave a message. With the unknown of how long it may be to get it looked at, I began to call around to see if anyone could come out (yesterday on a Sunday with temperatures well over 100 degrees F). I knew my chances were slim to none. But as a father of two young kids and an elderly and loving black lab, I was willing to try calling, leaving messages, writing emails, Facebook message every local service provider. I called the prior service technicians that left me business cards and told me to call them directly should anything ever come up (what I considered a wonderful customer service gesture). Well, it proved to just be a gesture. Fine. I get it. But one, and only one business called me. On a Sunday. In the evening. It was Able Air. Who called? The business owner - Russ. He spent time with me on the phone discussing possible troubleshooting (i.e. the frozen coil fix that I had tried). We agreed it sounded like it might be the capacitor or compressor. Russ was genuinely interested in helping me with my problem. He promised to reach out to his technicians and see if any were available to come out for an emergency callout that evening. He reassured me that if none were, he would try to work with me in the morning to confirm if a furnace installation could be postponed to prioritize my AC problem. Russ did exactly that - he reached out and when no technicians were available, he formed a potential plan for the morning. Russ called me in the morning, literally while I was on phone with my service provided after I had been on hold for a little while. My service provider told me that they would not be sending any technician past noon for their technician's safety (because attics can be extremely hot, which I totally understand - but what I don't understand is why not try to attempt potential troubleshooting that doesn't require attic access, like capacitor replacement that I believed was needed to fix my issue). And even though I had been a customer for 11 years with regular maintenance, the customer service representative informed me that the earliest they could send a technician was Wednesday (today is Monday, so after the worst of this dangerous heat wave). Okay, again, I understand that. However, I was then informed that even though it was not going to be today (Monday) and it would likely be Wednesday at the earliest, the service would still be considered an emergency callout. Apparently, that meant that just to send out a technician, I should expect to be charged nearly $400 just for the trip out (due to the emergency upcharge). This is where I started to not feel like a valued customer and noticed a clear difference between how much the businesses cared about me and my family as customers. Able Air came through when no other business came even close. And even if they were not able to, Russ had me believing I should be their customer (and nobody else's) after our initial conversation last night. I was not their customer. I did not have an expensive service plan through them. I had never done business with them. Anything I ever need they're right there able to answer questions. They put in a great thermometer that I can run through my Alexa or a phone app. Best service in the area! I will never recommend this company ever because of very poor customer service. Today, Saturday April 11th was a chilly, windy day and my furnace was broken. it has been for two weeks. I contacted the installer of the furnace because the phone number was printed on the installation sticker twice with no return phone calls about repairing the unit. It recently has been cold weather over the past 2 weeks.so finally I called Able Air for a third and final time and left a message that he PLEASE call me or else I will report him, and he called me back with attitude and wanted to have the last word. By this time, I was not going to hire him but I just wanted to know why I couldn't get a simple callback. Did they go out of business? I didn't know what to assume. He resented the weekend phone call I guess but blamed me for not calling during the week.I have never been told to "stop whining" by anyone in my life, but he managed to become the first one to accomplish that pitiful feat. All he needed to do was apologize and we could've just moved on, but no. This man at Able Air insisted on having the last word.
