As with many places in rural Arkansas, this place is out in the middle of nowhere, at least it can be, for the traveler passing through. But for the traveler, passing through, this place can be a notable find. Take a look at the pics. Upon entry through the front door, you'll note a cash register to the Lyft. Depending upon what time of day you visit, there's likely to be a long line winding through the dining room as people pay for it, and all you can eat buffet Food is hot and fresh, you stand in line and select from the trays and find yourself a place to eat. Our first time here. Arrived around 5:45. The line was long and took around 15 minutes to pay for our meal and get to the buffet By then there was only two tables in restaurant left that only sat two people so our party of 4 had to be at separate tables next to each other but facing different directions. The food was great so made up for the table disappointment. This place I guess is really popular so I'm hoping the owners can remodel and add additional dining rooms. They had to hold up the line of people that were behind us for probably 10-20 minutes waiting on tables to become available. Which is ok except the line wove between the tables where people were eating which takes away from the enjoyment of eating your food with people watching you wishing you'd hurry up so they could have your table. Lol. Dessert was the standard ice cream with toppings and peach cobbler, bread pudding and cinnamon rolls. Cashier was nice. Workers were dashing around keeping food trays refilled and tables cleared. read more

This place is such a gem in the rough! I love it's eclectic style and decor, but it's the food that has kept me coming back for so many years. I live in California, but am originally from the Natural State. And no trip home to Ark would ever be the same without at least one visit to my favorite roadhouse. The catfish is crispy and flavorful! Their batter has plenty of flavor and the fish is always fresh. You can tell the potato salad is home made, which is rare at restaurants. And their ROLLS!! We arrived 10 minutes before they opened. There was already a line, so knew that this place was going to be awesome. 53 minutes later, we get to the cashier to get our plates. By this time, I've noticed the food bar is only 8 feet long with a limited selection and very few tables. I asked the cashier if there were any other tables that I wasn't seeing. She said that was it. So there was no tables available after waiting this long. I was very disappointed. The ads I seen on Facebook, it looked amazing. I had in my mind it was going to be similar to Hollis' in Spearsville. There is no comparison to the two. Food may be outstanding, but by the looks of it, it is very overrated. read more

Oh my goodness. I wish we lived in Lawson. This place was the bomb diggety. Pay when you go in. Ask for new plates. Hit the buffet. Not a huge buffet but what they've got is good. My husband laughed because I nearly elbowed him out of my way to get at the chow-chow ( you may know it as green tomato relish.) It was perfect. Crispy and pickle-y. That's a word. Hush. Catfish steaks were thick and tasty. Corn nuggets were hot, crispy and meltingly good. And the baked beans? Some of the best I've had. They had a kick to them that I didn't expect. And then there were the cinnamon rolls. More like soft fluffy Parker house rolls turned into divine cinnamon delights. Honestly the best I've ever had. Bar none. The only thing I was a bit "ehhhh" on were the boiled shrimp. Had to dig through a lot of ice plus they were overcooked. The rest? Like I said, I now want to move to Lawson. read more

We are catfish connoisseurs and have searched the world over to find catfish that can beat or even compare to Abe's. We've yet to find it! It may not exist. This buffet warms a southern heart and fills every stomach with gastronomic delight. Boiled shrimp, crawfish, southern veggies, bbq, fresh cinnamon rolls, ice cream, etc., etc. It's down home and nice folks. This is the last place I ate with my grandfather before he passed away. To me, this restaurant holds a lot of dear memories of eating good comfort food with my family, laughing and exchanging stories. This could be one reason I favor this establishment so much, but even if I did just pass through to grab a lunch without these memories, I would assure you the food is solid. Who doesn't enjoy sinfully sweet cinnamon rolls that melt in your mouth and hot, gooey fried corn on your plate? When I know I'm eating here, I try to fast a little beforehand -- which may not be healthy, I'm aware, but I gotta make room! Abe's desperately needs a filter system for their drinking water and ice. I have to travel all over Arkansas and the well-water taste in the water at El Dorado is some of the worst of the state. The distinctive tase was so strong it was even evident in the gumbo at Abe's. If you've prepared by having a bottle of water or a can of soda beforehand, the dining experience at Abe's will be excellent! Their homemade cinnamon rolls are the highlight of the dessert offerings. House-smoked ribs had an excellent smoky flavor and were very tender. I didn't try the smoked chicken they had on offer - I got too full - but it looked excellent. They also put a lot of care into the quality of their fried foods. The house-made onion rings were fresh and hot. My grandfather particularly liked the fried frog legs (a southern delicacy). The catfish was cooked just right, not dried out or greasy. The people are friendly and fun to be around because it's obvoious this is a local favorite. read more

Great catfish, the star of their show....Abe's has been there a long time for good reason. Reliable, casual, and as remote as it is, always busy when we visit. Only taking away one star for the restrooms being so close within the dining area, but it is an old feed house. Sometimes they offer boiled shrimp, sometimes not, and last time there were no green tomato pickles, (just nickpickin, if you're a catfish lover it won't matter) but still worth the drive. read more

The food is great, but the cost is a little high for what you get. It's supposed to be all you can eat, but you have to go to the register and ask for a second plate??? I ought to drop it another star on the intimidation factor of the old woman behind the register that glares at your when you ask for the next plate Crowded and long lines unless you are there when it opens.
