When I reached out to Robert, the owner, his response was that he once paid $875 for a headlight that cost $27 wholesale, an example that didn't address the issue and only reinforced my concern about unreasonable markups. Surprising customers with undisclosed parts and charges does not feel like good business. Before the appointment, we had agreed that since I already had the part they initially diagnosed as the problem, I would only be charged their hourly rate. What wasn't disclosed upfront was that the rate is $100 per hour. I was prepared to pay that once I learned it, but when I received a $375 bill for roughly two hours of work, I requested a breakdown. Only then did I learn about the added $175 for the two unapproved gaskets. The situation left me feeling like this was a bait‑and‑switch, especially since they were unable to charge me for the part I already provided. What makes this especially disappointing is that my first experience with this company about seven years ago was outstanding. At that time, Robert went above and beyond during the middle of winter, and I've recommended this company to others based on that great service. They originally built the pool at the home I purchased and also handled the pool closing for the previous owner. Unfortunately, when I had the pool opened by another company this spring, it was discovered that the spa had not been properly winterized-the spa wasn't plugged-which led to a cracked valve and expensive repairs. I contacted Epic Escapes to ask if they stood behind their work, but they denied responsibility and never returned my calls. Hoping for a resolution, I went to their office and spoke with Donna. I calmly explained the situation and even offered to cover the cost of parts if they would help fix the issue. Donna said she would speak with the owner and get back to me, but I never heard from them again. It's incredibly frustrating to deal with a company that built the pool and closed it, yet refuses to take any accountability or even return a phone call. If they had simply provided a reasonable solution, they could have gained a loyal, long-term customer. Instead, I was left with a poor impression and a very negative experience. They were given preauthorization up until a certain amount and because we asked them to fix something, they charged the amount to fix it without any kind of authorization or discussion about what it took to fix and how much it would cost. Communication was for the most part non-existent, a response to an email regarding the preauthorization took approximately a month to respond. The only reason that it was even responded to was because of our cancellation for their bad service.

A friend recommended DesRochers and I have never looked back. They close and open my pool. Within 24 hours my water is crystal clear after opening. I have used their 3 step weekly maintenance and rarely do I have an issue. The issues are usually due to weather or too many teenagers in the water. This year they replaced our liner and lights. I would never go anywhere else. Malory and the staff at their Shorewood location are so helpful. And the service team exceeds all of my expectations.
