Overall I would recommend this place and would come back again. On a Wednesday morning, I called first to schedule for oil change service. I was told to come by anytime between 9AM to 12PM noon. I arrived around 9:40AM. There is 1 or 2 cars in front of me already being serviced. At first I was ignored for about 5 minutes until they talked to me. Needed oil change and rear brakes on my G35. I was tired of large chain repair shops quoting expensive labor for inexpensive parts. A friend of mine recommend this place and I'm very happy they did. It's extremely busy. They open at 9am and there was already 4 people in mind waiting. From 9-12, they only do oil changes. Any serious work is done afterwards. They told me the cost of parts and labor ahead of time and my car runs very smooth. All the staff--the techs, owner and front desk were very friendly and knowledgeable. Last week, they changed the oil in another car of mine and I asked them to check the brakes. Another large chain recommended I replace all my brakes. When the techs at Abbott looked at it, they showed me the brake pads and the rotors. They were in good shape and should be changed in approx a year. They showed and checked did all this for free! The man you wanna talk to is Thoi (pronounced Toy). My dad has been going to him for regular maintenance work, and whenever something was wrong with his car for years. He's worked at some other auto repair shops, and I've always followed wherever he went. This shop is operated by him, so I think he's there to stay. I've always brought my car to him first if anything was acting up on my car, or for any kind of maintenance. His quotes are a lot lower than what other places would do the same work for. He is straight to the point, honest with no BS, and his work is clean and professional. I always recommend this shop to my friends, as does my brother who's also a loyal customer. read more

This place is amazing - they're honest and they really help you out. I have to admit, I'm pretty clueless with cars. I fully expect to be completely taken for a ride when I go to shops to get my car worked on. I've just learned to seem hesitant and say, "No... you said I had a problem with this? I'll have my boyfriend take a look at it later..." Anyway, I've been going here for years for oil changes. They charge $25, which is very reasonable and I'm in and out the door in about 20-25 minutes, which works out well. The guys here don't try and sell unnecessary things to me, they don't make me wait long, and they are very thorough. The last time I got my oil changed, they filled my tires with air, and refilled my coolant, since I was out (oops). The only exception for when I had a long wait was when they were helping a guy with a serious engine problem (his car wasn't starting, period) before me. All three of the guys working were helping out with this guy's car, and really into it. When they finally got it started, they all erupted in cheers. It was really entertaining - seeing three grown Vietnamese men yelling and jumping around. I really enjoyed seeing how devoted they were to fixing that car, and it definitely made me trust them even more with mine. read more

Searched for auto shop: reads name, so white dudes. Called the shop: hears accent, so Mexican dudes. Arrived at the shop: sees technicians, Asian dudes?? Why, yes, the white name with the Spanish accent belong to Vietnamese mechanics! Their clientele is even more diverse: black, white, male, female, suits, shorts, knowledgeable, clueless.... Why do they all come here? They come because Abbott is honest, effective, quick, inexpensive. The technicians talked the same way with everyone: no dumbing down or shorthand. They took me under the car to show me what they found. They told another no, we didn't fix that thing because it's fine. They told yet another, we noticed this other thing while fixing what you requested. Multiple options were discussed and no, the recommendation was not biased to higher prices. The feeling is that they take ownership of your car health, and advise you like family. Highly recommend!! read more

If you really want to save money, take your car here. This "my friend" save you a lot of money with a quality job. I had a 2006 Volkswagen passat and one day on my way to office I started a sudden increase in noise coming from the engine. I reached office and was little scared. Recently some engine work was done. So was not sure what was causing it. I called Capitol Volkswagen and they asked me to take the car there. I was not sure whether to drive it or not. I called AAA and the driver came. He was such a nice person. He looked into the car and said it is some issue with exhaust and told me that I don't need to tow it and its safe to drive (though sound will be here). I took my car to capitolvw and they recommended replacing the catalytic converter. Also there was another recommendation to replace the purge valve. So the total cost (parts+labor) was around 2100$. I did some research and talked to few folks. One of my colleague gave me the reference of Abbott Auto and I went there to talk to him during lunch (close to my office). He asked me to bring in the car there and said it may be possible to repair it (dealership generally dont repair, they always replace). The guy in dealership also said the muffler shops may be able to re-weld (fix) it. I took my car there and he looked at it and said it cannot be fixed as its broken at the end. Also recommended to put the original. He took the original estimate and parts from the Volkswagen quote and asked me to call Sunnyvale Volkswagen to see if the parts are available. I got the estimate for the parts. Next day he fixed these problems (both the jobs) for a total of 1350$ with tax. He put the original parts, so cannot save much there. So basically I was able to save around 1000$ in terms of labor by going there. I strongly recommend this place. Now onwards Im going to get all my repairs done here only. Initially I was not sure if they work on German cars. But these guys are good. If you want to save money, go here. you wont be disappointed. read more

I have been to this place for years on end but I'm quite surprised with the low reviews and bad experiences. This shop is one of the few around these days that don't cut corners to try to cheat the customer. My dad is so critical that when I ask to change spark plugs in areas I need a lift, he would have told me to get the old ones back. For this place, you can trust those shaddy business practices are not done. Not the cheapest or the prettiest place with dated calenders of females...but this is an auto repair shop not the library. If you have time to notice that or get pissed he is reading the newspaper...well damn. Thoi has been always responsive and even suggested to not perform this service or ways I could fix it myself and save money. read more

My oil change was $30 bucks because my car is 6 cylinders and Abbott works really fast but Im only giving this place 3 stars because they are so busy! I came here on a Saturday at 1PM and they told me to come back since they only do oil changes from like 10pm-1pm or something (wtf). They spilled oil, I'm not even 1/4 mile down the street and I can smell the horrible burning popcorn smell already. They got grease all over my carpet, door, and steering wheel. There is no separation of the customer waiting area from the shop, so the impact wrench will be pounding on your eardrums and you will get all kinds of second-hand smoke because they smoke inside! I just wanted to say that these guys are amazing! I recommend anyone who needs help with brakes and rotors to come here. I called and they asked me to bring it in ASAP! I brought it in at 12 and it was finished by 5ish because I didn't check my phone. Maybe I was lucky on the time I came in? But anyways on my way there I I drove by a construction site and got a nail in my tire which made it super flat ... (Lucky me) and they pumped pressure in the tire for me. They called me and told me the total of everything. It seemed reasonable but as a college student it was a little too much. He cut my work in half and told me he would call around and find a cheaper part for me and do it. In 5 mins he called me back and bam. It was affordable for me. OK! I admit I read all the reviews and was a little hesitant! But I called all shops in the area and was quoted extortionary rates until I got fed up and called Abbot! They had an unbelievable quote, it was at least 5-10% less in parts costs than what I could price on-line, and that's without the shipping! They were able to same day service my Jeep (it was a radiator replacement)! It was both a gratifying and pleasant experience, I have 2 cars and will be bringing them both here, even after I move to downtown San Jose! read more

Been taking our vehicles to Mr. Thoi for about 7 years now. First picked him based on 'Best of Milpitas' survey. But learnt that he was simply the best auto guy I have gone to so far. He is honest, and clear in telling you what needs to be done and more importantly what doesn't need to be done. Couple examples. I was sensing a vibration in the steering of my van at low speeds, and suspected something major was wrong. Google search scared me a lot with stories about tie-rods and sterring columns etc. Thoi took a look and said just get new tires. I did not believe him and asked whether all the steering assembly was fine. He humored me and took a look, said everything was fine, just get new tires. I took my van to a tire shop and they also threw in a free oil change. After the new tires and oil change these folks told me that I needed new brake pads and shoes. I said thanks and took the van to Thoi. He told me that the brake pads were getting old, but I had oh about 5 months. Exactly 4.5 months later the brakes started making squeaky noises and were not as urgent in stopping as before. Went to him again and he said now was the time to change only the pads. Did it at a reasonable price too. He is a very hard to find person in the auto trade. Someone who you can trust, and be sure he won't take advantage of that trust. read more

Crazy fast. I arrived at 9:30am amid pouring rain. Fortunately, only 1 other car in the garage, so Mike was able to wheel my car in and start my oil change right away. They can service 2 cars at a time. It's a bit tight, with only a tiny seating area in the front. It seems they do oil changes primarily in the morning, and other car fixes later in the day. It looked like he also added some air into my tires as well. Anyway, he was done in less than 20 minutes, and the synthetic oil change only cost $55. Was quoted $200 for an upcoming 90k checkup, which I will probably look into. read more

Woo whooo is RIGHT!!! I love this place. Hubby and I have been coming here for nearly 2 and a half years. The owner is a really nice guy and he doesn't give you the run around or any bs. This is what I did and this is how much it will cost and why. Under 30 minutes to change my oil and rotate the tires and less than $30!? FOR REALS!!? Yes, and service with a smile to boot! Love this place. I will continue to take my car here for as long as I live in the South Bay!!! No complaints! They fixed my car for a little bit under their initial quote, which was already a bit lower than others in the area. It wasn't super fast, but I don't knock of any stars for that because they gave me a loaner to use while I was waiting for it to be fixed. That's how I believe business should be done - don't over-promise and under-deliver. Considering that most auto repair experiences are hell, this was basically a dream! I've been a loyal customer at Abbott's for at least 5 years now. I have to say that this is one of the most honest auto services available out there. Not only do they give reasonable rates they also try their best when fixing up your car. Admittedly, their customer service isn't top notch especially if you can't speak Vietnamese but it does not mean that they treat you rudely or anything- it's just sometimes polite small talk is limited due to language barriers. However, even though their English isn't top notch and my Vietnamese is non-existent when it comes to cars- they understand what you're in need of and they try their best to help you out. The owner and manager Thoi is also friends with/co-owns a lot of the other car services (including smog checks, car body services, etc) in the area so if your car needs something outside from what Abbott can give you he would give a great discounted referral and or free service. Thoi himself is a great and responsible car mechanic- a lot of the mechanics in the area are his disciples and quite honestly deserves a lot of respect for the way he handles business. His business attitude is if you're not satisfied with what his auto service has done to your car or if you feel like your car had not been fixed up to par- he would personally look everything over for you and fix it up until you're satisfied and feel that your car can be safe to drive again. I would GREATLY recommend Abbott Auto to ANYONE- I know, it's a place that's a little rough around the edges when it comes to customer service- but remember, this is a auto service not a spa and there is a language barrier sometimes- so what you perceive as bad service or bad attitude may actually come out to be something different. Called for an 80k service which involves an oil change. They asked my year, make and model. Told me they only do oil changes in the morning and to bring it in. I brought it in and then they told me they don't stock my oil filter. They would rather waste 30 minutes of your time then spend 1 minute of their time. I went somewhere else. read more

Came in to get my car looked at; it had this weird sound as if it was rusty but my car is not even 3 years old yet. Mr. Thoi took a quick look and determined it was the rear brakes. They changed it within 45 minutes and the price was very reasonable! Everyone there was very nice and professional! Decent service. The owner is friendly enough. He's always so busy, but he is willing to listen if you have specific concerns. I was worried about some car issues and waited around to speak directly to him. He eased my worries by simply confirming with me the issues and fixes that his guys will work on. Idk. This is my first time using Abbott Auto service, i can tell you one thing, that their price is excellent. Seems like a good and honest shop compared with others. I can tell you that their brake service is very competitive in pricing For example on camry 2007 rear brake Midas $205 Piercey toyota $325 Abbott $145 I am not sure about the quality of the part, but Thoi told me that it is original Toyota parts (so basically i just go along) I can say that you can try them since they seems A-OK in my book. I thought I needed to have my brake pads replaced so I looked on Yelp and found this place. I driven by this place before, so I knew where it was located. I called to see if they had any availability today (Friday) and the owner Thoi said he did. In fact, he told me to bring my car in right away. When I got there, Thoi and two other mechanics were working on separate cars. After being greeted by Thoi, he agreed to my suggestion to check to see if I needed to have my brake pads replaced in the first place. After inspecting my front and back brakes, he estimated that I had at least 30% left (approx. 6 mos) of use on my front brakes and much more on my rear brakes. Therefore, it was unnecessary to have them replaced today. In any case, he quoted $130 to replace my front brakes if I ever needed to have them done. The price was reasonable and he seemed honest. I will give Abbott my business next time I need work done on my car. read more

Came back because I trusted them from the previous repairs (see below) and I needed another repair. They charged me $80 for a job that Firestone would have charged me at least $600 for, and the problem went away! So accommodating. This is the most honest shop I've been to. I've referred my family to them and they've had the same experience - excellent customer service and prices can't be beat. Copied my review from 12/6/15: Hands down best auto shop in the Bay, these guys are my go-to's for anything. I took my car here once and loved the service; came back because I liked them the first time and it was consistent every time. Great prices, excellent service, and very, very accommodating. I can't say enough about how good these guys are. Toi the owner is someone you can trust. When my 87' Chevy Camaro took a dump and wouldn't pass smog, Toi couldn't find a thing wrong with it. He had it for days, he probably worked hours on it. Want to know how much he charged? Next to nothing for the labors he had done to try to get it to pass smog. After that I tried to spend all of my savings on a cheap older geo metro to get me to school and back. I took it by him to check it out. He stopped what he was doing, popped open the hood and gave it a quick inspection. The seller, a fast talking man who wanted the money tried to pep up the deal saying hoe good of a car it was, blah, blah, blah. He was silent and just kept looking. He told me to take it to his old employee that opened a smog place around the block and see if it would pass. Well, it didn't. When I got home there was several messages on our family answering machine with Toi pleading for me not to waist my money. He is a good man. That's all. My Grandmother calls him an Angel. As long as he is in business he will remain that way. At least to my family. He is truly a humble automotive servant and is down right honest to his customers. read more

Abbott auto service is honest. one day, i saw fluid under my car, so i went to the shop to have it checked. it turned out there is no leak, and they just told me the car is ok, and did not charge me. i wanted to add freon to make the AC cooler, but after checking it, they said my ac is ok also. Though, I have trouble understanding the accent of the mechanics over the phone, I believe whatever they say and always end up paying less than what I would normally pay anywhere else. I have been to many places around Milpitas. This has to be my favorite. It's a small shop, kinda off into the Pines area (around Great Mall). I took my Scion tc to their shop for an oil change. When i talked to Toi, he told me that he usually does them earlier in the day. I felt embarrassed. But he told me he'd do it after doing some work on two cars already there. I started reading a book on the couch. After 15 minutes, I was told that my car was done. Apparently he put my car first before the other two (probably for timing reasons). The expression on my face must have shown, because he laughed a little. Still couldn't believe the service was so quick. AND it only cost me 25 bucks cash. I was so shocked.
