This was my first time at Aba. I'd heard great things and really liked the atmosphere, but unfortunately my experience was just okay. The food was decent overall, although the chicken skewers were noticeably overcooked. My bigger concern, however, was the cleanliness of the artificial trees and greenery throughout the restaurant. There was a significant amount of visible dust buildup all over the branches and leaves, and this wasn't isolated to the tree near our table. Even more concerning, we could actually see dust particles floating through the air while we were eating. Much of the greenery hangs directly above or around the dining tables, so seeing that much accumulated dust--and then seeing it airborne--was pretty unsettling in a restaurant. The space itself is beautiful and I can understand why Aba is so popular, but the greenery is a major design feature and really needs to be included in a routine deep-cleaning schedule. Hopefully management addresses it, because the dust definitely took away from what otherwise could have been a much better first experience.
This restaurant space is beautifully done inside and you can also sit out on their balcony patio, which is such a nice option as well. They have the decor down to the details. We got the smoky garlic hummus, whipped feta, brussel sprouts, and lemon meringue bar for dessert, and honestly everything was amazing. The harissa honey on the brussel sprouts was so good, and the lemon meringue bar with the citrus crema and graham cracker crust was the perfect sweet item to round out the meal. They bring complementary pita with your hummus and dips and the bread with za'atar itself was delicious. They recommend 2-3 share plates per person, but we ordered 3 plus dessert for two people and still had leftovers. So I'd say it definitely depends on how hungry you are! We went for lunch/brunch and were pretty much the first people there, so service was super fast. Our server was lovely and incredibly attentive with topping off water and clearing plates. Definitely would come back to try some of their larger plate options.
Had a great experience at Aba during the weekend of August 9. Food was great, especially the intro hummus spreads, the drinks were very fresh, i loved that they weren't too sweet. Service was exceptional and the wait staff was extremely kind (they let us stay at the restaurant and extra 30 minutes during a freak torrential downpour). And of course the restaurant itself was beautiful, I'd recommend pictures in the lobby downstairs as the restaurant itself is more intimate.
Came here with my coworkers to celebrate my birthday and unfortunately I have to deduct stars due to service. We're convinced that the waiter either forgot to put in more than half of our meals or the kitchen lost our ticket, but either way our wait time for our food was unacceptable. We're also convinced that the one persons plate who had probably been ready for a long time had been sitting there because her meal was cold. All of ours when the waiter went to check for the 3rd time finally came out hot. For the wait we got 1 appetizer deducted. I didn't get photos of all the food but the star of the show was the hummus! I also had the crab cakes as my meal and it was tasty with an interesting purée. Not sure if I'd come back as it is a pricey place. I will say that their decor is top notch. I'm told it's Californian Mediterranean inspired.

We came in from out of town and on short notice was able to grab a table at 3:30pm for a late lunch. The place is beautiful with a lively terrace on nice days but also a very open and bright interior with modern decor. We were seated right away at a table off to the side of the bar area. We must have waited like 15-20 minutes before anyone even realized that we were there. It seemed as though none of the servers running around serving other tables around us had our table to service. Eventually we caught the attention of who I can only imagine was a manager or supervisor who finally came over to take our orders. We ordered the Smokey garlic hummus which fresh pita bread and this was very good. We also ordered the crispy potatoes and the Brussel sprouts as a side. These were also nice and crispy and the brussel sprouts had a tasty kick with the harissa honey. For our main we had the chicken kebab which was perfectly cooked and tender, braised short rib (not as good), and the shawarma skirt steak frite. We quite enjoyed our meal and everything very fast which more than made up for the initial delay in service. For dessert we decided to share a frozen Greek yogurt with Olive Oil and sea salt. This had an interesting taste with a tanginess at the end. I'm not sure I would order this again but you could tell the Greek yogurt was of very good quality. All in all we enjoyed our meal at Aba and would definitely come back if in town.
Walked in for a spontaneous dinner based on the overwhelming positive feedback seen online. The ambiance in the restaurant was more of an elevated, classy vibe. It was very busy but we were able to secure bar seating luckily. We ordered the whipped feta as an appetizer, along with the salmon kebab for our main course. We loved both and the portion sizes were great! Highly recommend this spot and will definitely be coming back!!
I first discovered Aba around the time they had first opened up and it was such an amazing dining experience, that I made a reservation again when I came back into town all these years later. I have to admit... it's not the same as it used to be. Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent place to dine at, especially on their patio during the Chicago summer, which was one of the biggest reasons why I came back. I was with someone who had not explored Chicago before so it definitely gave the city ambience while being engulfed in the Mediterranean experience. Yet the inside dining area feels like you're dining in small romantic villages in Italy or Greece. Service is still top notch. But the food is what's not the same. For me, the highlight was the crispy short rib hummus. I never thought they'd go well together but the juices from the meat blended in with the hummus and it's just soooo good. The kefta was nothing to be impressed about in which I expected more for the price we paid for. The chicken thighs were good but also nothing to be that impressed about. The one thing I was a little disappointed by is that they no longer serve a desert I tried the first time I was there, and their new desserts are average. Nothing to marvel about. Their OG desert is what had stayed in my mind all these years. You can't go wrong for a nice little date night at this spot or if you're new to the city, but it's not exactly a place I feel like I want to come back to, especially at that price. You're really mostly paying for the experience of the place.
Food 3/5 We got whipped feta, short rib hummus, and Brussels sprouts for apps and they were great individually but dip the Brussels in the whipped feta and it's even better. We got the steak frites, chicken kebab, crab cakes, grilled chicken kebab for our entrees and they were pretty mid. We honestly could have skipped them. The ambiance is always great in there. The music and the lighting. The server was great answering our questions about wines.
This place was good, can't give it 5 stars bc some of the foods were bland and dry, but the standout dish was the shrimp!! It was incredible, so flavorful and made like escargot. It was hands down the best dish. A must try for sure. Service was smooth and the outdoor rooftop area is super nice!
Went to Aba for my husband's birthday. Reservation was for 8pm we waited a little bit to be seated. We grabbed drinks while we waited. I had the freeda vita I really liked that it was refreshing and great for a hot day. I also had a expresso martini but it was not as good as some other local restaurants in the area. Our favorite dishes were the green chili shrimp, whipped feta and garlic hummus. The falafel and taziki was good. The beef and lamb kabob was dry the rice was delicious. I think the dips could be better if they had crispy pita bread or chips vs soft pita we needed texture. The sticky date cake was burnt at the bottom. Had a bad taste. The short ribs were just okay. The ambiance was okay I didnt like the music and it was just super loud. Overall I al happy I tried it but will likely not go back. They also charged us for a birthday dessert which I wasn't expecting. The waiter was not excellent he was pretty average didnt do anything to wow me.
Elevated, clean cuisine that is becoming a Chicago classic. Food was fantastic. Dishes are elevated yet carry a rustic charm resembling what you would get from a mom-and-pop restaurant. No dish was too heavy with oils or grease or fats which left us feeling full and satisfied without the groggy food coma. Flavors sing Mediterranean, and truly can't pick a wrong item. If I had to make a recommendation, the mushroom hummus for vegetarians is devine!! For the beef lovers out there, I've been recommended the short rib hummus countless times and I'm certain it would hit the spot. Unfortunately not the best Mediterranean food I've had in town, but definitely a can't miss place when making your restaurant hit list. The ambiance is also elegant and fit for an upscale Mediterranean meal. The indoor section is beautiful but I hear outdoor section is just as great of an experience. Again, can't go wrong on where you choose to make your reservation. The service is where the restaurant falls a bit short. They get incredibly busy and as a result it took over an hour to receive our meal. Was it worth the wait? Definitely, but wish the service could have been a bit more attentive also. Rating: 4/5
huge restaurant with lots of seating! very lively even on a tuesday night. staff are friendly and attentive. we got the crispy short rib hummus, muhummara, and halloumi. they were actually all starters/ small plates as we heard those were better than the mains. our server recommended 2 dishes per person but we (2) were stuffed with 3! they give plenty of pita per hummus plate which is a nice touch. I liked the muhammara the most, followed by the crispy short rib hummus then halloumi. the halloumi dish was a little bare and simple.
Fantastic spot. Visited the Austin location a couple years ago when they first opened, but love this location even more based on service, atmosphere, and food. Take the elevator in the lobby, and you will be greeted by the hostess stand. Had a 4:30pm reservation for Friday, so the restaurant was filled with afternoon sun and people mingling at the bar. Outdoor patio area, cozy interior, all of which is accented beautifully with wood, trees, and green foliage. We glanced at their happy hour menu which is better for drinks, hence we opted for the dinner menu. Apps: Braised short rib hummus - fantastic, smooth, and flavorful. Chunks of short rib to add some texture and richness on each pita bread (definitely ask for more). Hamachi - not the largest appetizer, but very tasty. Only 4 pieces, but was split fine between the two of us. Mains: Crispy chicken thigh - tender and juicy, the potato puree it was on was divine (smooth, rich) Truffle-baked orzo - very, very rich. Heavy on the truffle, and heavy in general. The parmesan breadcrumbs were a great addition of texture. Brussel sprouts - fine, but skippable Desserts + 2 cappuccinos: Sticky date cake - looooved this. Warm cake with a quenelle of whipped cream. Seriously so good Carrot cake - this was good, but I enjoyed the date cake more. Not a heavy cake, and very forward on the carrot flavor. Greek yogurt - complimentary as we were celebrating a birthday. Complete with a candle and birthday sprinkles! I love a tart froyo, and this was perfect. Overall, fantastic meal. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive. Atmosphere and decorations were fantastic. Just an overall lovely experience. read more

Hands down best meal I had in Chicago on my visit. I'd highly recommend everything I got: -SMOKY GARLIC HUMMUS: silky smooth hummus, delicious oil pool in the middle, extremely crispy chickpeas with a perfect fluffy bread. -PORK BELLY: melt in your mouth fat. So good. -BRUSSELS SPROUTS: huge Brussels sprouts, slight sticky sweetness in the background, and crispy like chicken skin fried leaves. -Aloe It's Me is mezcal forward--don't taste much else but I did enjoy it. The interior is romantically lit & everything is somehow at the perfect volume. Every table is filled and yet it's just a calm buzz of conversation all around you. read more
The entrance to Aba began with an easy-to-miss tarp-door outcropping. I had to ask the valet for directions. Judging by their reaction, this seemed to be a common problem. Once inside the tarp and through another door, an elevator at the end of a solemn corridor transported me upward. The elevator doors opened, and I was immediately face-to-face with a council of hostesses standing atop a mountainously elevated podium. It felt like entering a chamber to stand trial. "I have a reservation at 7:30", my voice cracked. The rest of my party had yet to arrive so I was asked to wait on the nearby couches. When my guests did arrive, we were informed that our reserved table in the main dining area was still occupied, but we could be seated in the heated patio immediately. I didn't mind all that much and nor did my guests. Still, the whole ordeal was a bit ironic given this was the same restaurant that was a bit prickly when I asked to add an additional guest to my reservation. The patio was one of the more well-constructed post-Covid patios I've sat in. Still, the design and decoration were clearly more hastily done than the main dining area. Our server was very energetic and bubbly, very charming overall. The food was good, but not great. The smoky garlic hummus was a bit pungent for my tastes, but the charred eggplant was quite scrumptious, as was the straciatella. The kefta kebab was good. For dessert, the date cake was excellent, while the chocolate orange crémeux was a bit lacking. Overall, really just an okay experience. From my estimation, Aba's real draw is the instagrammability of its interior. If not for that, I would find it truly shocking that reservations here book out a full month in advance. read more

ERIK WAS AMAZING!!!! If you are in Chicago, you MUST go to Aba and ask for Erik. The ambience is sexy and trendy and the music is a vibe. It's dimly lit and beautiful decorated. The cocktails were superb and we followed his recommendations on food. We got the whipped feta, short rib hummus, steak frites, Brussel sprouts and green chili shrimp. It was the perfect amount of food for a party of 4 and splitting a bottle of wine. It was busy on a late Sunday night so you know this is the spot to be in town. I kept hearing all the great things about this restaurant so thought to check it out. Absolutely love the ambiance and atmosphere of this place. Super cute and love all the greenery. The food is great and full of flavor. -Green Falafel -The Favorite Spreads - great way to try the hummus, feta dip, and charred eggplant. Must try!! Aba is a go to date night spot!! we got the: halibut ceviche: super fresh & delicious! brussels sprouts: so yummy and coated in a lot of honey! i loved this dish and would definitely get it again. steak frites: this was my first time trying steak frites and i doubt u can be too disappointed with this meal anywhere but it was impeccable at Aba; super delicious and hearty. the feta on the fries was amazing. sticky date cake: very decadent and amazing. i'd definitely get this again as well or try another one of the desserts based on how good this one was! we also got espresso martinis which were pretty good, but i don't know, they have their own "special" one which is the only one you can order and it's a little bit expensive for a pretty normal espresso martini. also, our server recommended 2-3 plates per person which i think is a LOT. we only got 3 + dessert and we took a bunch of leftovers home still. read more

Had the best time here! Stunning vibes, lots of space! I wish I got our waiters name because he was the best!! He gave us a free dessert and feta which was so sweet! This is the best dirty martini in the city, if you like filthy this is the spot! Unreal! Some of my favorites were the whipped feta, the marinated olives, hamachi, and the green chili shrimp! The hamachi was amazing, it had jalepeno which I love. The olives here are incredible. Can't wait to come back! read more

This place was awesome!... It was a little hard to find for my group since it was our first time. The sign outside is really small. Once we got to the 3rd floor we were seated immediately and it was packed on a Tuesday night. The decor is really nice with trees all over. We tried about 8 different things, all were good, but the whipped feta and smoky garlic hummus were amazing. read more

MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT EVER. Aba can do no wrong. From the moment you walk in you're greeted with the most beautifully decorated restaurant, the industrial vibe fits it's west loop location perfectly, but the greenery, decor, and lighting make it feel so warm and inviting. The cocktails are incredible, I personally recommend the cactus king, aloe it's me, and the fire sign with a shot of tequila added. Their espresso martini is also to die for, though it is quite pricey. Food-wise, the crispy short rib hummus is literally my favorite dish on the planet. This is my death row meal. It's so incredibly flavorful and the pita it's served with is seasoned to perfection. (I recommend getting extra!) Entrees I recommend are the crispy chicken thighs, the pork belly, and the beef short rib. For sides, our go-tos are the crispy potatoes and the Brussels sprouts, some of the best sprouts in the city!! We had a late lunch at Aba, and it did not disappoint! It had been a while since my last visit, but I still remembered really enjoying the whipped feta, so ordering it as an appetizer was an easy choice. It was just as delicious as I remembered, and the warm, fluffy house bread paired with it perfectly. For drinks, we tried the One for the Road and Fire Sign mocktails--both were flavorful and beautifully garnished. For our entrées, we ordered the crispy chicken thigh and the braised beef short rib. The chicken thigh was cooked perfectly--juicy, not dry--and the chili garlic vinaigrette added a nice tangy kick. My partner enjoyed the braised beef short rib, noting that it was tender and well-cooked, but they felt it could have used a bit more flavor. Our server was great--attentive, friendly, and consistently checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. Went here on a recent trip to Chicago and this was our ultimate dinner. Everything we ordered was delicious, and there was a lot of creativity in the menu going off of Mediterranean staples. The vibes were immaculate between the outdoor patio and indoor decor. Highly recommend going with a larger group so you can try more of the amazing dishes! My favorites were the grilled halloumi, ceviche, shrimp, and crispy chicken thigh. read more
Good portions to share, nice ambiance, and good food. Had a Friday night reservation which I think would be best since the restaurant did fill up as the night went on. My friend and I ordered 4 dishes and it was a lot of food. I was stuffed to the brim and my friend was pretty full too so I think we would've had just the right amount of food if we had a third person. We ordered the Crispy Short Rib Hummus, Brussel Sprouts, Char-Grilled Lamb Chops, and Lamb and Beef Kefta and the Carrot Cake for dessert. My favorite was probably the hummus and the Lamb and Beef Kefta. I loved the pita that came with the hummus and that they gave free refills! The Lamb and Beef Kefta was flavorful and is on the lighter side for a dish (since it's not super fatty/ oily) which I liked. We also ordered drinks- Thirst Trap (frozen) and I think my friend got the Cactus King. They were so good and definitely tasted like juice since the alcohol wasn't that strong. But I am a sucker for frozen drinks so I'm glad I ordered it. Overall, such a good spot! I would 100% come again if I'm back in Chicago. read more
Love love love. The interior decor is so bright and cute and feels like a California restaurant. The restaurant gives you a bit upscale feel, but it's friendly and casual. I came for brunch with husband and our experience was nice. The food was flavorful and delicious. Got the Muhammara (served with house seasoned nann slices), Brussels Sprouts, Grilled Cauliflower Kebab, and Crispy Short Rib Hummus (served with nann bread) and would recommend all of them. Our server took very good care of us. Street parking took us a bit time but we got lucky to find a spot close enough haha. read more
[Aba Chicago] Aesthetic Mediterranean restaurant in Fulton Market. I think the chef was a Top Chef alum CJ Jacobson. We sat at the rooftop but it was at night so we couldn't see the views. The string lights were a good addition. They've got a few locations but this was the Chicago spot. We order a smoked mushroom hummus, lamb and beef kefta, grill cauliflower kebab, Brussels sprouts, and the creme brulee pie. I'm not the biggest fan of Mediterranean food but this place was good. The tzatziki sauce was good for the kebab place since it just rice and meat so a bit on the drier side. I mixed the hummus with the kebab place and it was such a good collab. The service was great, especially they gave us a complimentary ice cream for our anniversary. The ambiance gives off date night vibes but also good for group dinners. Brussels sprouts had a charred and sweet glaze but nothing outstanding, very normal. The best dish was probably the mushroom hummus. The restaurant is on the more affordable side of a nicer restaurant with an entree around $25 but some items can be pricey. Really lovely atmosphere for pretty good food & drinks. The menu is extensive with tons of great options -- the Alaskan Halibut was perfectly cooked & seasoned, the hummus and feta dip were super flavorful and the pita bread was warm! Our service was prompt as well, the waiter gave us great recommendations for the size of our group (2) and thought it was fairly priced as well! read more

We reserved part of the patio for a 15-person party and were seated on a long outdoor couch. We had 2-3 servers and they were all very helpful and patient with our large party. Everyone was extremely happy with the taste and quality of the food. One of the top rated foods were the Crispy Short Rib Hummus and Shawarma-Spiced Skirt Steak Frites. I would also recommend any of their desserts. The restaurant is very good with allergies. I'd recommend for a nice dinner--just remember to make a reservation! read more

Aba is one of those places that gets everything right -- the ambiance, the service, and most importantly, the food. It's the perfect spot for a date night or celebratory dinner, with a stunning patio and a warm, glowing vibe that makes every visit feel special. We shared a mix of dishes and loved every single one. The Muhammara (roasted pepper, isot chili, walnut, pomegranate molasses) and Smoky Garlic Hummus (with charred avocado and chili oil) were both incredible -- rich, layered, and perfect with their warm, fluffy pita. The Green Falafel was another standout -- crispy on the outside, soft and herby inside, with avocado tzatziki and garlic tahini that brought everything together. For mains, the Braised Beef Short Rib was beautifully tender and paired perfectly with the parmesan polenta and pomegranate date glaze -- comforting and indulgent. The Grilled Chicken with yogurt marinade and zhoug was flavorful and juicy, and the Grilled Cauliflower (with medjool date and turmeric tzatziki) added a bright, balanced touch to the meal. Desserts were the perfect finale. The Crème Brûlée Pie had roasted apple and burnt honey -- sweet but not overwhelming -- while the Sticky Date Cake was rich, warm, and easily one of the best desserts I've had in Chicago. The Passionfruit Semifreddo was light, tangy, and refreshing -- the perfect way to end the night. Service was fantastic -- friendly, knowledgeable, and perfectly timed. Between the thoughtful flavors, the cozy yet elegant atmosphere, and how consistently great everything was, Aba completely lives up to the hype. I'd go back in a heartbeat. read more
Aba was good, but not great. Roasted Brussels Sprouts (10/10): these were delicious. They were uniquely spiced and blackened perfectly Short Rib Hummus (6.5/10): many other reviewers recommended this dish, but I wasn't that impressed. I think their hummus is just okay. The short rib is good, but not amazing Our favorite spreads (7.5/10): the feta and eggplant were the best. The hummus was okay, but I did like the addition of fried chickpeas for texture. The pita bread was pretty good as well, but not enough to push this to a 5* review. The restaurant was very well decorated. I liked the festive lights everywhere, and the beautiful heated patio. Good portion sizes and a beautiful setting. Feels like you're in a Greek patio garden (Mediterranean version of Aba IMO). We went for the Restaurant Week menu, which provided a nice balance of options (including a cocktail). While I enjoyed the environment and none of my dishes were bad, I would not say anything was particularly impressive either. The ceviche did not taste very fresh, and the short rib--while very tender--did not pop with flavor. The falafel and kebab were good, but a little underwhelming given the RW pricepoint. The date dessert was probably my favorite between the two and made me want to keep eating. I would recommend Aba for a vibey Happy Hour. The food is solid, just not necessarily something I need to go back for. read more

the restaurant week deal was INSANE. got a drink, appetizer, main and dessert for $60. there were 6 of us and we shared a bunch of appetizers and they were all phenomenal. the halibut was the unexpected star of the show. braised short rib was perfectly done and the polenta and pomegranate seeds were the perfect pairing. sticky date cake was okay - trivoli's is much better (and set unrealistic expectations for date cake moving forward) read more

They open at 3 on Saturday for dinner. I would recommend arriving at 3 or 4 as it fills up quickly with reservations. Brunch begins at 11, but not sure how that works and such
