I was greeted at the front by a friendly lady who guided me to what I was looking for. She went above and beyond with explaining the different types of pesticides and her personal experiences and recommended methods of application (scatter the boric acid around instead of a straight line for roaches, which I didn't know!). It was a lot of fun browsing the store because there was so much to take in. The layout is like an antique store but for hardware, from plumbing to doorknobs to cleaning supplies, they had just about everything. I had an extremely great experience at Southland and will be back! And do not fret about parking, there is a large - by Montrose standards - parking lot in the back.

Gem of a store…read more Settler's is an antiques store that stocks both used and replicated antique hardware. Some of the selections are 150 year old original pieces, others reproductions that are dated and some new. If you are looking to spice up your boring home with some rustic, antique ambiance, take a visit in and see for yourself. The owner, Susan, is exceptionally helpful, having been a furniture restorer for most of her life. Granted, some of the prices can be a little steep; this is especially true of the used, original pieces as these are now relics of another era; the replicas can be substantially cheaper and look just about the same.

When we arrived, I'll admit I wasn't expecting the outside feel of the place. I'm familiar with the area, but I had never noticed this hardware store before. I don't know how seriously I would've taken it had I not called in advance and also had I not known the Ace name. Maybe I'm spoiled by the sleeker look of the big box stores. However, I was very happy with the service. The men inside helped us find 2 furniture dollys that were perfect for our needs and well-priced. I would definitely come back if I had any other hardware needs in the future.

East End Hardware was our final stop of the evening, and overall, it was a really cool experience…read more After dinner at Nancy's Hustle, we walked down the block to East End Hardware because I had specifically looked them up and wanted to try one of their snowball cocktails. Since this was a first date, I loved that we could just walk over, grab a drink, sit at the bar and keep the conversation going. I ordered the Strawberry Snowball, made with Peruvian pisco and strawberry syrup. It was good, and the portion was definitely large enough to share, which made it kind of fun for a date. I will say, though, I think I expected it to be a little more "cocktail" and a little less "snowball." There was A LOT of ice, and I found myself wishing there was a little more actual cocktail mixed throughout it. It wasn't bad at all--it just wasn't quite what I had pictured when I decided I wanted to try one. One thing I REALLY liked about East End Hardware was the selection of board games and card games available to play while you hang out. We initially grabbed Connect Four, but unfortunately something was wrong with the bottom and it wouldn't latch to hold the pieces. So we switched over to Battleship--and that actually turned out to be really cute! We sat at the bar playing Battleship, sharing our Strawberry Snowball and talking. It added a fun, playful element to the date instead of us just sitting there having another drink. I definitely think the games are a nice touch, especially if you're coming here on a date or with friends. The atmosphere was great, too. East End Hardware has a cool, quaint, laid-back vibe that makes it easy to settle in and stay awhile. I'd definitely go back, although next time I think I'd skip the snowball and try one of their regular cocktails instead. But I would absolutely grab another game while I'm there. Overall, a cool neighborhood spot and a really fun way to end the night.

For instance, if you've always wanted to turn a pen or a bowl, sign up for the class. They teach you how to do it and you take home what you actually turned. It's a great way to learn a new skill in woodworking. The staff is really helpful and knowledgeable about woodworking. They have different folks who know different things. If they don't know how to do something, they admit it but will pass you to the person who does. I like that a lot. Bottom line - A great store to shop for you woodworking needs.
