If you're into getting royally screwed over, this is the place for you. They originally quoted me around $1750 in labor costs to fix and paint my totaled car. They said it should only take about a week or so once all the parts were in. After sourcing all the parts for it myself to save costs, they seemed to go MIA. They barely answered my calls and texts. They only occasionally answered to tell me "we're still working on it." Three months later, they finally told me it was mechanically sound, in the paint shop, and would be ready at the end of the week. After three more weeks of no responses, it turns out they hadn't even finished the mechanical side of things. I told them I would get the car towed out of there if not finished by the end of the week. Don't even worry about painting it. They finally called that week to say they had it fixed. I showed up to find the car was still in terrible condition; the check engine light is on, the AC doesn't work, there are numerous hoses hanging loose, the antenna is missing, and, obviously, it hasn't been painted. On top of that, they told me "the engine might still be leaking oil." After signing the rebuilt vehicle statement, they handed over a $3300 bill. Almost double the original estimate, without even painting the damn car. I was irate. While arguing over how egregious this is, the owner put the blame on his old employee, on me for not just junking the car, and on "a miscommunication." If you fired your employee for underquoting me, it would be nice to know in advance that I would be charged almost double than expected. If you thought the car was going to be a loss for me, it would be nice to know before charging me double than expected. This wasn't a miscommunication. There was NO communication. This is easily the worst business I have ever had to deal with in my entire life. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT give them your business. You will save yourself so much time, stress, and hassle by staying as far away from this place as possible. read more

I took my Chevy impala to repair a few things and they were pretty communicative for the most part especially Jerry but the technicians are HORRIBLE and remember Alex was very rude after I told him he did not do the job properly and threw a rag and oil at my car intentionally and when I told him I was going to report him to the manager, said it was a "accident" and told my girlfriend a very vulgar flirtatious comment. Aside from that incident would not recommend going if you want reliable service and no things being thrown at your car while being unprofessional. read more

Last month, after a series of non car related unfortunate events, I managed to total my car that I have had since I was 16 and it broke my heart. I called AAR based off Yelp reviews I read and asked them to drive out to see my car and give me an estimate. AAR was there in the same day, faster than the "second opinion" I got, and gave me an accurate estimate based on a comparison between the two (both are highly rated in Yelp). The guy I spoke with seemed like a real straight shooter, which I appreciate. For irrelevant, other reasons, I ended up having my car towed to a different collision center. I had a disastrous experience trying to simply replace the window channels (weatherstripping in between the door and window) on my car. It was supposed to be a 2 hour job, 1 hour per door. Five hours later, only one door was complete, and it was a mess: - the window would not roll down--it popped out of the track - screws were left out of the arm rest so that it didn't attach properly to the door - the window channel was left halfway sticking out of the door - the mechanic tore a piece of the window felt - the chrome trim around the window was re-installed backwards - the mechanic inserted a screw in the middle of the door where there was no screw before because he couldn't get the clips on correctly I took it to a Chevy dealer and they were able to repair all the damage, and install new window channels, for the same price Austin Auto Refurb quoted me. Michael, the owner, is a nice guy, but the technicians there are NOT COMPETENT. Please stay away! read more

Someone came around a corner and smashed into my Husband's truck a few years ago. Michael Aguirrie and his guys took great care of it for us and fixed it up good as new. They were so helpful and fast, he was back to work in no time! Then another time, a Client of my Husband's came out of their garage and backed right into him without even looking! After comparing this company's bid for repair with my insurance company's recommended repair shop, I liked this one because he said we could repair the dented lift gate on my beloved Toyota Highlander rather than the easier, more expensive--and less ecologically sound--option of replacing the lift gate, the only option offered by the other repair shop. Not wanting to add to the waste at a landfill, and appreciating that Michael Aguirre suggested this repair first meant that he, too, is sensitive to saving what can be saved. They did a beautiful job of repairing and repainting the lift gate, plus a ding on my bumper, and in a reasonable amount of time. All I had to pay was my insurance deductibles. I got into a car accident and even though I lived in Austin for 3 years, I really don't know any body shops. Austin Auto Refurbishing was recommended to me by Groovy Automotive. The location and surroundings of A.A.R looks shady but has a very "home owned" feel to it. I admit I was turned off at first but when I walked and scanned the office, I immediately saw the BBB sign. I felt more secure. The guy was friendly and helpful. He told me to get old parts because it's cheaper and no one will notice the difference. He also offered a good discount. During my visit, their computer crashed but I was very pleased to find an estimate in a PDF file emailed to me within 30 minutes. The estimate was very detailed, it was like "estimate for dummies"-very clear and simple to understand. They ordered my parts after a deposit. The parts came the next day and I immediately dropped off the car. As promised, my car was delivered on time and the cost was as expected. My car looked as if nothing happened, and the work done on the car (fixing a broken bumper) was flawless. I am impressed. I recommend this place if you need body work done on your car. read more

She then mentioned to the mechanics that my trunk latch didn't work. So the man crawled in my trunk, took apart the lock and got the piece that was stuck in it out so my trunk works now! They could have just stopped at fixing my handle, but they went above and beyond, by also fixing my trunk latch that hasn't worked for months! My car was towed away from an accident scene and somehow ended up here. One man in particular who worked here kept trying to get me to leave my car there indefinitely and assured me an insurance company would pay for it. When I came to remove my car and tow it away so I could stop accruing fees, they tried to charge me for more days than my car was there and they still tried to get me to leave my car there. They tried to tell me that they knew what was best for my car and made it difficult to remove my car from their lot. I believe this place is trying to get paid from insurance companies or hoping to benefit from my misfortune. I would steer clear of this place for this reason alone. read more

I actually discovered AAR from a brochure at Onion Creek VW while waiting for an oil change. I was hit in a parking lot on my rear left quarter panel and I went to my usual Auto Body place I ordinarily go to who have always done good work but take a bit to get the vehicle back. I took a chance and got a second estimate from AAR and they were a bit more, but after going through my insurance that point was irrelevant. Micheal was awesome, his staff, eveyone seemd to go out of their way to get my car on time and actually noticed a spot I had been hit a year or so earlier that was cosmetic but I hadnt thought about geting it done. AAR offered to give me an estimate to fix the area on my front bumper and not only did they give me an amazing price on the repair, they basically didnt charge me for a small paintless dent repair either.
