I trusted AAMCO to rebuild my transmission, thinking their "expertise" and national brand meant reliability. I couldn't have been more wrong. Less than 25,000 miles after the rebuild, the transmission failed catastrophically--proof that their work is neither durable nor professional. What made this worse was the customer service. Instead of standing behind their work, AAMCO gave me the runaround, dodged responsibility, and treated me like an inconvenience rather than a valued customer. Calls went unanswered and every interaction felt like they were trying to push blame back on me rather than owning their shoddy workmanship. To make matters worse, each AAMCO shop is privately owned, which means they don't honor each other's work. So if your transmission fails after a rebuild, you're stuck dealing with the same shop that botched the job in the first place. The "nationwide coverage" they advertise is a hollow promise--there's no accountability across locations, just finger-pointing and excuses. A transmission rebuild should last far longer than 25K miles. The fact that mine didn't--and that AAMCO refused to make it right--shows exactly what kind of company they are: one that hides behind excuses instead of delivering quality and accountability. This AAMCO gets the job done. The inside is pretty messy when you walk in. Both times walking in, there's papers all over the front desk and there's been a styrofoam food container just sitting on the counter. Last time, I thought some of the grease from the food was going to get on my paper records. The second time I went, I asked if they could take a look at my radio and clock because it stopped working. Beware of there financing. I took my care in for transmission repair. The technician said it world be 5k. fine. so 2 days later a guy calls me and say the rotatable will be 6100. I told him I was quoted 5k. he then said I'll call you back . Anothe guy then calls me and say the price is 5500 but when u get here I'll give you 500. Just fill out the financing application. Im like it still says $6100. He said we will just change it later. No. They must think I'm boo boo the fool. Like I'm not signing a contract for one price and hope you change it. Also Be aware there option for financing is pay in full in 100 days or I would have to pay 18000. That's a 300% interest mark up. This one has some background, so stick with me for a minute. I own a Hyundai Santa Fe and knew the transmission was starting to slip between 1 and 2, so I took it to my local (Stafford, VA) shop. The guy there refused to work on a Hyundai transmission and sent me to his buddy's Aamco in Fredericksburg, VA. When I got there, the shop confirmed the transmission had finally started to go, and quoted me both a time and a price (for parts only - he refused to quote labor). After quoting me the price, he tried to force me to get a loan from a local bank down the street where it sounded like he had friends (and perhaps a deal). I attempted to use my Aamco credit card to pay for the work and he refused outright. My car sat in his shop for two weeks while he decided whether or not he wanted to take my money until finally calling me to refuse. I called Aamco in Woodbridge, explained that my car needed a new transmission and that the shop in Fredericksburg literally refused to take my money. I also explained that I'd already been out of a car for two weeks and asked if - even though none of that was their fault - I could do anything to get the work rushed. Well. Immediately, Kuba apologized to me for my trouble, told me he understood my frustration, quoted me prices including both parts and labor for various options, and guaranteed I'd have my car within a week. We made arrangements to drop my car off after hours, and my family (I have two kids under 4) drove to Fredericksburg, got the Santa Fe, and dropped it off in Woodbridge that night. The next afternoon, I received a call with their own diagnosis (which was the same, but I appreciate that they looked at it themselves) and a re-confirmation of the two quotes I'd received. My wife and I decided how we wanted to proceed and let them know. They ordered the transmission that evening, and within two days it was in the shop. One day later, the transmission was installed and ready for pick-up. I wasn't able to get there before they closed, and didn't want to wait another day. Kuba charged my Aamco card (the same one Fredericksburg refused to accept) over the phone, locked the keys in the car, and parked it in the first spot in the lot. I picked it up that evening and absolutely was exactly as it was promised. Kuba even waited around after hours to speak with me and explain everything in person, which I appreciated. Everything about my experience was outstanding, and other than having to replace a transmission (which is always painful), it could not have gone any better. I brought my car (2004 Ford Focus, 107,000 miles) in to AAMCO after taking to the dealership. I was hearing rubbing/grinding noises from the front end, also, in accelerating I was feeling hesitation and bucking. The dealership said I needed a new transmission assembly at $4800, Ugh... Rob had his crew found the problem was that the left front steering knuckle was in bad condition and the ignition coil assembly need replacing, and to top it off they found loose lug nuts. The dealership has lost my confidence, especially after missing a critical safety issue as loose lug nuts. Woodbridge AAMCO made the repairs and saved me $4000!!! Of three shops I checked, only Terry at AAMCO Woodbridge first required that he perform a road test, then gave me a no-nonsense appraisal of problem. His price was slightly lower than other estimates, but the real reason I chose these guys was his attitude and straightforward approach. NO ROOM FOR GROUPON AAMCO, in both wood bridge and Manassas, claimed they had no available bookings for "weeks for GROUPON oil changes". I called on weekdays on multiple occasions. Thankfully groupon refunded me (partially) (where I lost original deal but recouped some of my costs) I get it people don't like group on, well, then don't advertise there! The Gentlemen at the office today were very informative and helpful when I came in to get my leaking transmission checked out. They saved me a lot of time and money by letting me know that Jiffy lube falsely informed me that I needed my transmission fluid changed on my 2010 Honda Accord and that the leakage was normal since it wasn't big puddles and the car does have over 200k miles. My trusty mechanic said my van had transmission issues and I needed a transmission specialist to assess how much it would cost to fix. My van's old (has 250,000 miles on it) so my mechanic said it probably wouldn't be worth the money to fix it. Aamco was nearby. I made an appointment, they quoted me a price that was too high ($2000) and when I declined services the man at the desk was quite rude and used a very condescending tone with me ("you mean you'd rather buy a new car and have a ton of payments than fix this one you already have?"). Nothing about the experience made me think that it would be okay to let them work on my van. I even got the opinion of another mechanic who said the fix would be to expensive to be worth it on such an old van. It seemed like they were just trying to get people to spend the most money there and didn't have the best interests of the customer in mind. Plus, they had bad attitudes. Never again. read more

I purchased a Groupon, red flag #1! I'll just get right to it, I work throughout the week, so I need to be able to drop my car off in the morning and pick it up in the evening. I called earlier in the week and was told to drop it off Friday morning. I dropped my vehicle off early Friday morning and called back once they opened to provide my voucher number and let them know that my vehicle needs full synthetic oil. I spoke to a man by the name of Terry and man, he was far from friendly. He explained that the last person I talked to had misinformed me and that they did not have the parking to let my car sit after the oil change was complete. They never called me to tell me the car was finished so, I assumed it was not complete. They call me about an hour later and say the car was finished about 45 minutes ago; of in which, I'm also advised that I need a new battery and that they've repeatedly had to jump my vehicle. It was quite interesting, especially since my vehicle had no battery issues prior. The funnier aspect of this situation is that this location did not carry batteries or install them. In short, the customer service here is absolute garbage. I've never felt so belittled from a mechanic in all my days nor do I understand why someone who represents a company and receives a paycheck can be so unkind to a paying customer. I'm only giving 2 stars for the prompt service and it feels like I may be rating this entity higher than they deserve. Never again. Not never! read more

My wife brought our vehicle in and was advised that our vehicle was unsafe...seems everything went bad at once, brakes, seals,... She would even have to sign a safety warning if she declined the almost $3,000 charge ! Went to a trustworthy place instead and they did not see any of the mystery problems. I brought in my Ford for a transmission fluid change. Even though Aamco marketing specifically claims they replace "virtually all" fluid, the service desk guy stated they intended NOT to take the fluid from the torque converter. As an owner of one of the highest volume vehicle transmissions, I was shocked. Only after I made more pointed questions reflecting my mechanical awareness, did they 'find' a way to replace all the fluid. Definitely not a trustworthy shop. read more

I took my 2003 Accord in and Terry (owner) actually checked my car. I thought it was my transmission and was prepared for the bad news. Terry checked it and said my transmission was good, but my catalytic converter was bad. WOW, what a relief as that will save me more than $2,000 overall. Terry is an honest man and the staff are fantastic!!! I will always check with Terry prior to having any service on my vehicles. I made an appointment over the phone with Nate (they have about a week wait which was fine). I asked for prices but basically he couldn't tell me exactly what it would cost and didn't bother to look it up for my vehicle either. Anyways, I found a groupon so it was a good deal at about 1/2 the estimated price. I arrived a few minutes early and there was no wait or anyone waiting. It took them just over 40mins for an oil change. It seems like they did a good job as far as an oil change goes, not exactly complicated. My only complaint is that Nate's customer service skills are nonexistent, over the phone and in person... Not your typical cup of sunshine. They could ask him to work on that. Other than that, I recommend you get yourself a groupon and remember to make an appointment. read more

AAMCO sucks!!! They need more technicians. They claim that they are booked weeks out but every time you call, it's the same response "Our next open appointment is next week". If I could rate them a zero I would. Heck, I get way better service (oil change) at Jiffy Lube, Express Lube, and Valvoline. This AAMCO that I am writing about is not on Jeff Davis Hwy but on Hanco Center Drive. Made an appointment online, they said they didn't get it. They took me in and I was in and out in about 45 minutes. Told them my car was making a noise in the front end, they didn't find anything and even pointed out everything they looked at. Honest guys, very courteous and friendly. If I ever take my car back, I hope I receive the same courtesy. After reading these comments, I have to raise an eyebrow but I had a good experience. read more

Very professional. Had a power purge Transmission Flush on my Hyundai Elantra. Made appt. Simple waiting room with free WiFi. Service took a little over an hour. The shop includes a three month warranty on trans cooler line leaks just in case in addition to it's normal 12 month warranty. Tank, the manager, was personable and caring. Hogie, the lead tech, explained the service thoroughly. They test drive the vehicle to check the transmission after the flush. I found a very reasonable price thru Groupon. read more

Really amazing customer service! My car, as I was leaving a parking lot, began to make a horrible knocking sound and the check oil light hit red and then all of a sudden turned off. Me, not an expert on cars, had no idea what was happening. So, I called up AAMCO and got automatically connected to the Service Writer. He was extremely helpful and got my car towed over to the shop to be looked at. Once we arrived, they place my car on the lifts and began to drain the oil and check it out. Immediately after checking it out, they showed me evidence that my oil was filled with metal ( looked almost metallic gloss rather than oil). After about a day, the Service Writer immediately called me to give the info that my engine was shot. He went into to detail explaining to me what was causing the knocking noise. It feels good know what the cause was and couldn't be happier with the service. If ever I have trouble on whatever future car I have this would be my first choice. read more

Jason, the guy that runs it is a great guy, but their services aren't great, I took my Explorer in for an Oil Change, they "double gasket-ed" it and half a mile down the road the oil blew out. I coasted it back to AAMCO and they they were apologetic, cleaned up the oil from underneath and re filled it with a new filter and fresh oil. I sat there for the whole process, took just under 4 hours. Jason gave me a $200 gift card for my inconvenience. I used my $200 gift card to have the rear pinion seal done, a job that was quoted as a max of 2 hours(they bill for 90 minutes), so i agreed to wait while it was done. SIX AND A HALF HOURS later they were done! First they said the seal they ordered was faulty and that took an hour to arrive, I've no idea what other problems they had, but the mechanic kept coming in and just shaking his head(as he knew i was there) and the other guy would go walking out to look for 15 minutes.Jason wasn't there this day but i made it known politely i wouldn't be back. Kinda of ironic using the $200 gift card for delayed time to have a job done that was 4.5 hours delayed itself! read more

I would give no stars if I could. We paid over $4k for them to fix our van and since then we have had to return it to them over four times! The manager Mr.Cooper does not seem to be phased by the amount of times we have had to return and he definitely does not seem to care that we are extremely unsatisfied. All he says is he will let the owner know. When asked for the contact info for the owner I am told that there is none and that Mr.Cooper will pass a message on to Terry, who is the owner. I have yet to hear from this Mr.Terry. DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLES TO THIS LOCATION! They charge you an arm and leg but obviously are incapable of fixing the issues. If you go here just know I warned you. Mr.Cooper himself stated all he does is sit at the front desk and answer calls. Sounds to me like he needs to get off his butt and see what is actually going on. As for the owner...have yet to hear from him as I said, but if he sees this then he needs to know just how poorly his customers are being treated. The tone that Mr.Cooper uses when addressing issues is very condescending, almost to the point that he seems to be laughing as you explain just how inconvenient the situation is. Being handicapped and needing a wheelchair to get around is hard enough, but then when you're left on the side of the road more than once you just get angry. We have tried to be patient and understanding, but after the 4th time returning our vehicle and being stranded, enough is enough! Consider yourselves warned, if you use this shop you will regret it. Poor customer service and absolutely horrible repair job! Mr.Terry you should be ashamed of this place. The only person that showed even an ounce of regret over this situation is a man named Kevin. Good old Mr.Cooper had him call me to let me know what they have found out so far. What type of manager would have his employees call a customer that he knows is irate? A poor manager, that's who. Sad part is that Kevin called to update me on the findings but there was none! He literally called to let me know they had to call a technician from Chrysler because they couldn't figure out the issue with the code themselves. Then he lets me know that they are covering the charge for the technician themselves! You bet your butt you are. I am not giving them even a penny more of our money. Them paying for the technician is no way shape or form a courtesy to us. Especially after we have returned our vehicle over four times now! This place is being reported and it's a shame. read more

Poor customer service! My car's engine check light came on and I printed out a coupon saying they would check it for free. They were trying to charge $274.00 to do electrical diagnosis saying that it would give them a more specific detail of what the problem is rather than a general description which the coupon service provides. So why even have the coupon for them to check your engine for free? Well they want you to come in so they can charge $50 bucks for an initial assessment. In conclusion, there are much better auto shops out there. These people take advantage of people who do not have an understanding about cars and try to squeeze out any money they can get out of you. read more

The worst experience ever! They lure people in with cheap oil change groupon deals, and once you are there, the drama begins. They try to find a zillion things wrong with your vehicle and frighten you to death. The guy at the front desk, Andrew, is a salesman through and through. Then you have Jason who is the rudest person you'll probably ever meet. He told me that even though I had already paid for the oil change, he may not be able to change the filter on my Minicooper because it was too full of gunk! I told him that I had never heard of such a thing, and went to the repair area where the mechanic was finishing up on my car. Sure enough, Jason followed me there, signaled to the mechanic, and stated, "They were able to change it." Needless to say, I was super annoyed and told him that his earlier story had seemed preposterous to me. All the while, he kept blowing secondhand cigarette smoke in my face. And what more, when he handed me the papers, he told me to never bring my vehicles there again! If I had a choice, I would give this place minus five stars. read more
