This review is after a month since I had service on my car:…read more The good.. the staff was very friendly and the way they communicate is kind. Through the 2 different reasons I've had to go there, they eventually got the issues fixed. It took two trips but because they misdiagnosed an issue the first time, they didn't charge me for labor the 2nd time so I appreciate that. The not-so-good experience.. they didn't call to say to what extent the diagnosis was neither did they call to breakdown the cost for everything. So by the time I got my car back, everything was already done so I'm inclined to pay at that point. Not to mention, the cost of parts was over the average pricing that you can get online so if you're familiar with car parts, I recommend ordering it elsewhere and asking if they're able to use that instead of theirs. Overall, I'd come back here for maintenance and inspections. I think they are trustworthy but could improve method of communication to the customers.

I could not be happier with R&j Auto Shop!…read more I have a 99 Chevy Silverado that has sat for years. I put a charger on it, which read 14.4 volts, but still it would not crank. I reached out to a number of shops, and R&j was the most responsive and reasonable. I am so glad I did. Jorge was very communicative, and texted me to let me know when he would be arriving. He brought all the tools needed to diagnose the problem. Since it was an easy diagnosis, Jorge did not charge a diagnostic fee, which was very reasonable. Jorge let me order the parts I needed, and even suggested I replace the serpentine belt at no additional cost. He replaced the alternator, battery and removed the aftermarket alarm that was draining the electrical system. He even diagnosed the brake issue that we found once the truck was running. R&j Auto Shop is my go to for quality, quick auto repairs. Jorge is a great guy and easy to work with. I highly recommend R&j Auto Repair!!

I decided to do the sane thing and look at repair options instead. I had found Circuit Board Medics in South Carolina (these guys are the real deal btw) who would go on to do my repair for a 10th of the replacement price, but almost all of the shops around me were unwilling to remove the module for me to ship it out and then reinstall it once it was shipped back to me. Except Jorge. He gave me a reasonable price and service dates which was a little too close to the reinspection deadline but I had hoped it would be done by then. The first appointment, Tuesday, August 11, went really smoothly, Jorge came to my location and took off the module for me to ship out to the module techs down in SC on express delivery. Unfortunately there was only one day between me shipping it out and Jorge's Thursday appointment to reinstall the part. The techs in SC had a same-day turnaround but they ended up shipping it back out to me on the day of the appointment for it to arrive on Friday. Things had been going superbly up to that point. Because Thursday was the last day of the 15-day grace period, I was anxious to get it done as soon as possible because the fact that the period ended created new complications. Unfortunately, Jorge informed me that he would not be available until the following Monday. I understood his booking situation so I let him know that I might look for someone else to complete the job sooner because of the deadline that passed. He then offered to try to come on Saturday to which I offered to pay extra for him to try to come out on Friday, to which he agreed. Friday comes and I had asked him to let me know if he's likely to come out that day. He tells me that he couldn't make it that day at 7:30PM which was odd but things happen so I hoped he'd be able to come out on Saturday. Saturday comes, he texts later in the afternoon that he's busy and would come on Monday at 12PM. I didn't want to try to get a Sunday appointment at that point so I let it be. Monday comes and he's not here. A little while later he lets me know he's on his way, arrives at 1:30PM, gets the job done, and then we parted ways. Obviously, this was not the kind of service I expected to receive. I felt mistreated because of the following reasons: 1. I could have had someone else come and finish the job by Friday or Saturday. I completely would have understood if Jorge was unable to come but he sold me false hope and I believed it because, 2. I didn't want to rent a vehicle until he could come out but I could have! I thought it would be unnecessary since he'd definitely come today, tomorrow, the next day, when Christ comes back, etc. 3. I have lost earnings for nothing when I could have rented a car out and recouped some of the expenses that I had incurred and will incur because, 4. The car still failed inspection for another reason I didn't think would fail it and had I been working this past weekend, I would have been in a better position to get that new issue fixed. 5. I can't legally drive on public roads because the grace period has passed. Though it was the module techs who delayed the module, I had asked Jorge if he would be able to take off the module one day earlier so we could avoid a situation like this. He said he would try but he never confirmed it. The first appointment took literally 20 minutes and I would have paid extra for him to come the day before at an off hour or something so the inspection window would have less risk of closing. Though fixing this ultimately didn't stop the car from failing inspection again, at least I would have had more time to prepare for the next repair BEFORE the window closes. 6. After all of this grief, he was still late by an hour and 30 minutes on Monday without a single word of acknowledgement of the fact! I am so angry and disappointed in the way this all turned out. What had started off as an exceptional service has ended up costing me what I never expected it to, simply because an edge case scenario could not be handled properly and professionally. I hope Jorge can clarify any wrongdoing on my side and maybe rectify his end. I still reluctantly encourage anyone to give him a chance based on the other reviews written about this business and the factoring of "things happen"-ing, but he has lost my confidence. This is technically a one-star review but I didn't want to be any more blunt.

I had an extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional phone call from Hometowne Auto Repair today…read more Which I recorded and will be putting on my socials. A woman called me without even identifying herself and immediately said, "You left two negative reviews, and I was surprised to see you on the schedule. I wanted to make sure we were good." What exactly was I supposed to take from that? I had to ask her multiple times whose name was even on these reviews before she finally said mine. One review was from years ago, and the other was from about four months ago. During the conversation, she even acknowledged that in the more recent situation, their employee had given me incorrect information. She stated that she was new manager finally and attempt to "address the issues". So why was I being confronted about an honest review of an experience your own staff mishandled? The entire call felt less like an attempt to resolve a customer-service issue and more like an attempt to make me cancel my appointment. When I finally asked directly whether she still wanted me to bring my vehicle in, suddenly she was stumbling over her words. If you wanted my business, why call me before my scheduled appointment specifically to bring up old negative reviews and tell me you were "surprised" I was on the schedule? It also leaves me with a serious question: Is this how Hometowne Auto Repair contacts every customer who has ever left a negative review, or was I singled out as a Black woman who criticized the service she received? Customers should be able to leave honest reviews--especially when a business acknowledges its employee provided incorrect information--without wondering whether those reviews will later be held against them when they try to obtain service. Bringing up a review from years ago and another from months ago immediately before my appointment was unnecessary, intimidating, and incredibly unprofessional. After that phone call, I certainly did not feel that my business was wanted or that I could comfortably trust this shop with my vehicle. TAKE YOUR CAR HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK! At the end of the day I blame myself for trying to give them another chance since i had been going to them for almost 10years! I can assure you no more chances will be given so you don't have to worry about me anymore.

Because I rely in my vehicle for everything, I immediately shifted my schedule around to accommodate. The next day I received a call from a shop employee named David who told me my tires would be in the next day and then proceeded to recommend services that I needed. After receiving that great news I adjusted my schedule and looked forward to getting my car sooner. The next day I called the shop to check on my car and was told my Chris that my tires wouldn't be arriving until Wednesday and that that's been the note in my file since Sunday. I explained that an employee named David called me and told me that my tires would be done on Tuesday and he explained that he couldn't see any reason why David would have called me and told me that. Chris offered a discount as an apology while the phone. I picked up my car when it was ready, and the same employee David came up to my husband and told him I had 2 bent front rims. I found it very interesting that he didn't bring up my bent rims when we were on the phone on Monday and that my rims were suddenly bent after I complained about the employee lying to me over the phone. The discount Chris offered over the phone was also not given at the time of payment. Looking into possible legal options now.
