I recently visited Aahaa with a group of four on a Saturday evening around 5:30 PM, hoping to try a new Indian spot in the area. While the food itself was good and the atmosphere was decent, unfortunately, our experience was marred by terrible service and some serious billing issues that make it hard to recommend this restaurant. To start, we were immediately informed that cocktails were unavailable, which was a bummer. They also only had two beer options (none on draft), and their wine selection was limited. A little annoying, but we shrugged it off. However, things got worse when we ordered a pinot grigio and were brought a pinot noir instead. Our server disappeared after that, and we didn't see her again for at least 20 minutes. We also ordered an appetizer, which didn't show up until we had already finished our entrees -- and it wasn't comped! We tried to be understanding, but it felt like they were just completely disconnected. Then, when it came time to split the bill, the waitress mixed things up and accidentally ran the other couple's bill on our card and ours on theirs. The real headache came the next day when I noticed two charges on my credit card -- one for the amount we paid (which was the other couple's bill, due to the error) and a mysterious second charge for $8.20. I tried reaching out multiple times, calling during hours when they were supposed to be open, but no one answered. The phone just rang for about five minutes before abruptly cutting off, and no voicemail was set up. I also reached out to the other couple, and they noticed the same second charge for $8.20 on their card as well. This restaurant not only made unauthorized charges on our cards, but they also refused to address the issue when we tried to contact them. The lack of customer service is one thing (staffing shortages happen) and the billing errors are annoying (but could've been an oversight) -- the unauthorized charges, however, are unacceptable under any circumstances. I would not recommend trusting Aahaa with your credit card or your business. There are plenty of other Indian restaurants in the KC metro with much better service and integrity. read more

My husband and I recently had two very different experiences at Aaya Indian Restaurant. Our lunch visit was quite enjoyable -- the food was flavorful, well-prepared, and the service was attentive. Encouraged by that, we decided to return a few weeks later for dinner, hoping for the same quality. Unfortunately, dinner was a complete letdown. Our meals did not arrive together; I had to flag down our server to ask why the wait was so long. She explained there were only two staff working in the kitchen that night. When my food finally arrived, I found myself having to share it with my husband because half of his meal and his rice never came at all. What we did receive was a small portion and overcooked. The manager stopped by several tables to explain the kitchen was short-staffed. While transparency is appreciated, one wonders if she should have been helping out in the kitchen rather than circulating among guests. To make matters worse, there was no offer of compensation or apology for the poor experience. Considering the prices, which felt extremely steep for what we received, the whole evening was disappointing and frankly, ruined. The restaurant's Instagram portrays an upscale vibe, but our dinner did not reflect that standard at all. If you're considering Aaya, I'd suggest sticking to lunch or being prepared for a less-than-satisfactory dinner experience. read more

Indian food lollipops, like Chicken Lollipop, are a popular appetizer made from drumettes or wingettes, marinated with spices, coated in batter, and deep-fried to crispy perfection. They have a bold, spicy flavor and are often served with Schezwan sauce or other tangy dips, making them a favorite in Indo-Chinese cuisine. The combination of a crunchy exterior and juicy interior creates a delightful texture that keeps people coming back for more. These lollipops are commonly found at street food stalls and parties, enjoyed for their convenient, bite-sized appeal. Their rich taste and vibrant presentation make them a must-try dish for spice lovers. Mandi is a traditional Yemeni dish that has gained popularity in India, especially in Hyderabad and Kerala, known for its fragrant, spiced rice served with tender, slow-cooked meat. The meat, usually chicken or mutton, is seasoned with aromatic spices like cardamom, cloves, and cinnamon, giving it a distinctive, smoky flavor. Traditionally cooked in a tandoor, the dish absorbs deep, earthy flavors that make it both rich and satisfying. Mandi is typically served on large platters and enjoyed as a communal meal, enhancing the cultural experience of dining together. Its mildly spiced yet flavorful profile makes it a must-try for anyone who enjoys Arabic or biryani-style cuisine. read more

This time, I ventured to AHA Modern Indian Cuisine in Overland Park, and it did not disappoint! They've recently undergone a stunning remodel, and the new look is absolutely gorgeous. Plus, their revamped menu now features an exciting mix of South Indian dishes and Asian fusion, with options for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Our experience started with a warm welcome, complete with fresh juices and palate cleansers, followed by refreshing mocktails. For appetizers, we couldn't resist the crispy, flavor-packed vegetable samosas--definitely my favorite! The highlight of the meal? Their house special family dosa, beautifully presented and as delicious as it looked. For the main course, we sampled a variety of dishes: Chicken Tikka Masala Chicken Biryani Lamb Mandi Persian Kabob Every dish was bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. To wrap things up, we indulged in their heavenly desserts--an absolute must-try! This was such a fantastic dining experience, and I'll definitely be back for more. Aahaa Modern Indian Cuisine - A Delightful New Addition I had the pleasure of visiting Aahaa Modern Indian Cuisine during its grand opening for lunch, and it was an experience worth sharing. Upon entering, I was greeted warmly and promptly seated in a comfortable booth. The restaurant's interior strikes a perfect balance between modern elegance and cozy ambiance, enhanced by vibrant, colorful photos adorning the walls. I started with the Chicken 65 from the small plate menu and paired it with a side of garlic naan. Opting for mild spice was a great choice, as the dish had just a hint of heat--enough to be interesting without overwhelming the palate. The garlic naan was perfectly cooked, warm, and flavorful. I also had a hot cup of chai tea that was stellar. Service was outstanding--prompt, professional, and genuinely friendly, making me feel well taken care of throughout the meal. If you're in the area, Aahaa Modern Indian Cuisine is definitely worth a visit. Delicious food, inviting atmosphere, and top-notch service make it a promising new spot. read more

Title: Never received my order -- terrible customer service and no accountability I placed a $60 delivery order directly through Aahaa's website, but the food never arrived -- even though we provided the correct address. When I tried calling the restaurant multiple times, the phone rang and rang with no answer. After waiting over an hour, I finally drove 30 minutes to the restaurant to speak with someone in person. The manager told me there was nothing she could do, and that I had to "take it up with the delivery service" -- even though the order was placed on their website. When I asked what could be done, she said the owner (who lives in India) "does not allow free food" and sent me home literally empty-handed, with no refund, no replacement meal, and no apology. So at the end of the day: I paid $60 and received nothing -- no food, no help, no customer service. I've never experienced anything like this from a restaurant before. Absolutely unacceptable. If you value integrity, communication, or basic courtesy -- I'd avoid this place. read more
