Looked for an extra remote for our garage door. Searched everywhere and online for it, all garage doors suppliers in Maryland gave me the same answer: Change the opener since it is too old. But I didn't want to change the whole unit since I have it for many years. My brother recommended AAA Garage Doors, and told me hat if anyone can get it for me it will be them. And he was right! I called and was answered by a very nice guy who asked for the model number. "It is old" he said. I was ready for another NO, when he suddenly telling me he has a used one he is willing to give for free! I was thrilled. The next day he stopped at our garage and programmed the remote for us. He said it is for free since he cant believe someone would use it. I tipped him nicely and thanked him. And I thought you don't find people like this today. read more

We originally found Eugene Burgess on HomeAdvisor.com and used him for a garage door repair (basically replacing the pulleys and rollers to get our old wooden doors working like new again). Eugene's work was fantastic. He performed that job on the same day that we contacted HomeAdvisor. He came to our house at 5:30 at night after another job he was doing finished up and fixed the doors up nicely in less than an hour. I was very pleased because I thought that one of the problems was with the garage door springs. But Mr. Burgess said that the springs were fine and that all we needed were new pulleys and rollers. Basically, he saved me money. Just last week we had an accident where a car ran into one of our old doors. We decided that it was time to replace our old doors with insulated metal doors. Based on our good experience the first time, we called Burgess back on the job. He came by the same evening (a Thursday) with a brochure and quote for 2 new doors. His price seemed very reasonable, and so we signed on the dotted line with a plan for him to install the doors the following Monday night. On Monday night, Mr. Burgess called and said that another job he was on had really run over and asked if he could instead come on Tuesday. I understand these delays happen, so I wasn't too upset, but this was the only "hitch" in the delivery. Mr. Burgess did show up on time on Tuesday and he and his assistant replaced the doors in about 3 hours and the new doors look and work fantastically! Mr. Burgess's prices were significantly better than Sears or Home Depot- by using him you are cutting out the middle man. I hate to have to provide this review because his response time was impeccable and he seemed like a nice guy but....I made an appointment with Eugene of Burgess Garage Doors for the following day with the timeframe between 11am - 12pm. Well to my annoyance and surprise, he showed up at 8am! When no one obviously answered the door, he left his company flyer. When he didn't show up at the scheduled time, I called and texted of which he never responded! He has yet to respond or render services for the confirmed appointment. Typically, I try to focus on the best qualities of a company but unfortunately, I cannot with Burgess Garage Doors. My project was fairly simple--I wanted to replace both garage door openers, repair the springs one door and replace weather strips on both doors. I received a quote from Burgess and felt the price was reasonable (without knowing what model of door openers I was purchasing). I was initially quoted $800 for the following: 2 openers, 3 remotes, 1 outside keypad and weather strips for both doors and repair of extension springs for 1 door. I contacted the owner and requested a 2nd outside keypad since I have two garage doors. The owner (Eugene) attempted to talk me out of having a 2nd keypad installed and explained that I could have both doors programmed on a single keypad. I advised that I want on keypad for each door since that's what he is currently replacing. Eugene advised that it would cost an additional $50 for the 2nd keypad--I agreed to pay the additional $50. INSTALLATION DAY: Eugene and an employee arrived and began the work as promised. Half way through the job, someone and no one in my family, turned the camera I have in the garage to face the ceiling--I have security cameras all over the inside and outside of my house and the garage is one of those areas. What's interesting is I have on camera, the employee turning the camera upright and back to where it was initially pointed. When asked why his employee touched my camera, Eugene's response was, "oh we thought that was a camera turned on its side and decided we would turn in back upright." I won't add a commentary for Eugene's explanation, I'll let you (the potential customer of Burgess Garage Door) formulate your own perception of what happened to my camera and WHY THEY TURNED THE CAMERA AWAY FROM WHERE THEY WERE WORKING. POST PROJECT: All of the scraps left behind after the work was done, was not swept or cleaned--we had to sweep and clean the garage floor of debris left behind. DISCOVERY: After the openers and all other components were installed, I researched online the model and associated features of my new system. I discovered almost immediately, that there was a disconnect between what I paid for and what I received in the way of components. For instance, the model opener I paid for was: HD520EVP, which came standard with: 1 garage door opener, 2 remote controls, 2 safety beams and 1 keypad. Eugene only provided three (3) remotes when I paid for four (4) and when I requested a second keypad for the outside of the garage, he charged me an additional $50 when I already paid for the keypad I requested. I agreed to pay the additional $50 before I knew what model of opener he was installing and what already comes as part of the package. THE SCAM: It's very simple, Eugene Burgess intentionally withheld one (1) remote control, for which I paid for, to resell to some other unsuspecting customer. Secondly, he charged me twice for the keypad (to which he tried unsuccessfully to talk me out of having installed) that was already part of the system. IN THE END: I later challenged Eugene on the 4th remote control and on being charged twice for a component what was included in the package/system. He became defensive and attempted to justify his antics by stating that's what he quoted me. I explained to him that is quote did not more than lay the groundwork for his scam; YOU CAN'T CHARGE A CUSTOMER FOR A SYSTEM AND DECIDE TO WITHHOLD PARTS TO REUSE/RESELL FOR PROFIT Eugene agreed to provide me with the 4th remote and reimburse me for the $50 he charged for the keypad. He provided me with an old remote control from a different manufacturer and no $50. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY, HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. read more

I had high hopes to start. I received a call from Mr. Burgess within minutes of submitting my request online for help with my garage door. We arranged for him to come by my home the following day to estimate the cost of repair or replacement. He arrived within a reasonable amount of time past our scheduled appointment and I was very impressed by my initial impression of him. He even brought his Dad with him and he introduced himself too. I was given a rough estimate of the cost to replace the bottom panel of my builder grade garage door and another rough estimate to replace the whole door. He explained to me why the bottom panel needed to be replaced and why really the whole door needed to be replaced as well, though finances were preventing that from happening. (I had a brand new $1500 front door still in its packaging standing in the garage waiting its install). I was told he would give me a call the following Tuesday with an estimate to replace the single panel. Tuesday came and went and I finally received the call nearly a week later. We scheduled the work for the following week. On the morning of the scheduled appointment I waited around the house for Mr. Burgess to appear. When the afternoon came and he still had not shown, I made a call to his office and received his voice-mail. I called again later in the day and again I received his voice-mail. I called the next day and I received his voice-mail again. I waited a week for him to call me back and once again I called his office to receive some sort of explanation and once again I got his voice-mail. Obviously I will find someone else to do the work and it is too bad for companies such as Mr. Burgess who miss out on opportunities to advertise their work to my neighbors. My carpenter is now gainfully employed by several of them for work they noticed he had done on my house. I think in the business they would call that a "missed opportunity". read more
