I purchased a final sale BCBG dress online which I brought in for alterations. Yvonne was honest and said not to spend any money altering the dress and to scrap it, as the waist was too short for my long torso, and there was no way to drop it. As sad as the truth was, at least I didn't spend any more money on a dress that could not fit. She also did a fast turnaround hem on my husband's pants for $12 and letting out room in the waist of his trousers. Gassane is the best master tailor for men in Austin. When I asked if she could let out my dress because it was too tight on me and she told me "well you could lose weight" As a 20 something year old woman this hit me deeply. I left crying. The proprietor knows fit and form well, and has even shown me that some things don't need to be altered, as I was just styling them wrong. My favorite thing about Evon (I may be misspelling her name- but she's the Asian lady that works there) is that she gives VERY honest feedback, has good insight on style vs functionality, her prices are affordable, and she always seems to have outstanding alterations. Now, my input is as a male and the alterations she's made to my clothes. I don't know much about dresses and such. However, she had previously been a huge help when I first started wearing suits. For example, I took one particular suit to her which was poorly fitted on the chest from a previous tailor and, after a 20 minute discussion with her, she said it would be better to just buy a new suit rather than spend nearly the same cost on trying to fix a suit that was too small in the chest anyways. She then then gave me pointers on what to look for in a new suit, where I could go, and even informed me that I could bring it to her to see if it's cost to trailer was worth it, etc. By the end of that particular visit, she didn't charge me a penny even even after I asked to at least pay her for her time. Also, most recently, I had a wedding to attend in a few days of delivering her a recently purchased set of pants and she was able to turn around and finish by the very next day which was an extraordinary help as other tailors normally take a few days. As such, she's definitely worth a full 5/5 stars in my book. read more

I brought in a pair of suit pants that needed hemming due to the prior alteration coming undone, and upon entering the store I was greeted by a very nice lady who attended to me right away. I explained to her what I needed done, and even though she had another customer in the store, she told me that if I could wait 5 minutes she'd make the alteration right away. Indeed she did just that and when she brought my pants back out to me she showed me the alteration which appeared to be flawless, explained the issue that likely resulted in the prior faulty hemming and then she refused to accept any payment in spite of my objection (it was my first time in the store so I was not a repeat customer and she had/has no idea that I would write a Yelp review for the store). I don't care how long it took her, or how easy this particular alteration may have been for her, she was practicing her craft, which I suspect she's spent ions perfecting, for my benefit and yet refusing to accept payment. We're coming to Yvonne's NEW location on 2110 Slaughter Ln in the HEB shopping center (get directions). What's there to like?? We're so glad she has extended hours to Saturday 9-2pm. She does some work on premises AND sends some out to trusted partners, usually back within a week. Watch for Prom or Christmas Holiday season rush,, however. She gives a 30 day guarantee if you still need work done on the piece after you take it home. She does both my husband's and my pieces: mainly sleeve and trouser lengths. But for me it can be a bit more complicated with hem and shoulder alterations. Yvonne is very efficient minded and you might have to wait a bit to try on (every time!).
