It's going on 2 weeks since my neighbor had tree and shrub work performed. Needless to say one of A-1 workers broke one of my windows in the process. Chris refused to give my mom the insurance info. to have window replaced. If all else fails I'll have window repaired and see them in small claims court. The property owners who hired A-1 wants to pay for repair since Chris isn't very responsive. Companies like this give small business owners a bad reputation. read more

I used them to trim some trees. Their workers are very unprofessional and the way they run their business is sketchy to say the least. The worker asked me to pay in cash or make the check out to Betty Knowles who is supposedly the owners wife. They didn't have a receipt to give me and after asking the office for it twice they still have not provided it. Seems like they are hiding money from their taxes. read more

I don't know Dan. We dealt with Chris to have a large tree in on our front lawn trimmed, plus some work in the back yard. They made the tree in the front yard look like a box rather than rounding it. Chris said it would fill out. But the real issue is with Chris keeping her word. The tree had a lot of dead branches that had to be removed. Chris said her pole saw was broken (Surprised a company as large as A1 has only one pole saw.) but she would be back the next day to finish the job. After a few days we called, she said she would be here "tomorrow", after several tomorrows we called again and got the same story. When my wife called a third time Chris got annoyed and started complaining about her workers. She was rude and her employees are not our problem. Last Friday I called the main office, got the answering service. I explained the situation and she told me one of the owners would call me back shortly. It's now Monday and still no call and the dead branches are still on the tree. We need more work done in the back as does our neighbor. In addition, one of our other neighbors approached Chris about doing some work for him. So this is three customers that are gone. Good work, Chris! read more

An employee came to my door and tried to pressure my elderly mother into having several trees removed claiming they were dead. Ive lived there 20 years with her, they are certainly NOT dead!! They claimed you couldnt tell because it was winter and one was dead of a fungus. Our one tree has a GENETIC mutation that affects it but it is very much alive! They were very rude and argued with me that THEY were the experts and wouldnt let my mother shut the door after several request by her! They had just taken down our elderly neighbors tree claiming it was blocking their solar panels, but their panels are in the BACK no where near the tree they removed! This companys employees are LIARS , making fraudulent claims and targeting and scamming the elderly! BEWARE! I'm glad I was there at the time they knocked on the door! read more

We have used A-1 Tree Service approximately five times over the past six years. Every time, except for the last, they did a good job. It was their actions on the last job that prevent me from recommending them. Last autumn they took down a large oak tree on our property. In the process they damaged a brand-new aluminum shed. They readily acknowledged the damage and asked that I get a quote for the repair. I obtained the quote, contacted the crew, and they promised they would stop by later that week to make good on the claim. That never happened. I have contacted them at least TWENTY times during the past four months. They always have an excuse concerning their inability to contact the owner. Although they may do a good job, if they damage your property chances are good they will not make good on the damages. It leads me to think they do not carry liability/property insurance. read more

I did not like them I called to try to get my tree removed they took months to get back to me. Once they finally did they very unprofessional, they did not clean up after themselves I had to hire someone else to finish the rest of the job that they never even completed or gave me a discount of what I went through. I must say, the prices are wonderful compared to the other tree company's. But the customer service is not very good, although the staff was very nice and did a good job. I was not 100% satisfied with the what was done. And when I called the owner, he blew me off several times. And promised to come back and take a look at what I was not happy with, but never did. It got to the point where I just stopped calling. It was clear by our last conversation on the phone that he had no intention of coming back. He also feels like he did some kind of service for free. Even though I paid him $150 for his service. I don't think I will have them back. I don't mind paying a little bit more, to get better service. We were putting up a new fence and decided to put it to the property line which was overgrown with tress and brush. Called A1 and got a decent price so decided to go with them instead of looking at other companies. The job they did was ok, although I don't think it was completely finished. Was unhappy with them taking down a 10 year old red maple that was not near the tress and brush they were supposed to be clearing. And was extremely upset when I looked to see that a dogwood tree that was no where near where they were working (at least 30 feet away) and was planted to mark the spot where 2 of my dogs are buried was completely stripped of all its branches. The excuse given was they must have dragged brush across the yard and across my paver patio which was also marked up. I absolutely regret ever allowing A1 tree service to set foot on my property.A few months back hired we A1 to remove about seven tall trees from our back yard. Now keep in mind we have a large flagstone patio at the rear of our home and for some reason unbeknownst to us the A1 crew decided that it would be smart to let the trees fall onto it as they were cutting them down and that lead to our once pristine patio now having large craters and cracked flagstone everywhere. To add insult to injury we only found out about the damage after we'd moved a tarp of which they'd used from our yard to cover the damaged flagstone. We immediately reached out to A1 about the damage and then and only then did they admit that they'd damaged our property. They never even attempted to right their wrong or even apologize for damaging our property and we're now presently in small claims court fighting for damages that we're rightfully entitled to and believe it or not they admit to damaging our property but absolutely refuse to hand over a penny to us to remedy the situation...smh. We've heard horror stories about this company and now we're experiencing it first hand so please do yourself a favor and don't walk, RUN as fast as you can and find a company that actually gives a shit because this one doesn't. I am a widow and live in a senior development in Toms River. I had many trees and brushes that were over grown and dangerous to my new home and neighbors. I had everything removed from the property. The work was done in November 2017. This spring I had the lawn company come to give me an estimate on putting soil,seed and plants on the bare ground. Much to my dismay they could not do that because there are tree stubs at ground level, so nothing can ground in the areas where the tree's were removed. So I have not a plant on my property because of this company. I called and texted Chris April 5th, she texted me and said they would be out to look. NEVER CAME! I then called the Brick office, got the answering service lady, she was so sweet and concerned, I'll get right back to you, that was April 18th..NEVER CALLED!! I recommend A1 Tree to many people including my neighbor's and rebuked that and told them of what happened. Yes Chris is such a sweetheart until there is a situation and after paid in full with a tip.
