We are extremely grateful to A1 Smog in Davis-Jon and his team for fixing a major issue on our Prius. Our catalytic converter was stolen twice, then we had a cat shield installed, after which the car did not pass the smog check. Jon and his team took the time and effort to thoroughly examine the car, find and fix the problem. They ordered and installed a new PCM, which fixed the issue and the car passed the smog check. There was a delay in the part shipment over the holidays, and I highly appreciate Jon's professionalism. He called to keep us up to date and apologized about the delay. Went in at around 4pm on a weekday. There were no other cars being serviced, so after a quick filling-in of paperwork, my car was rolled into the garage and worked on. It lasted about twenty minutes or so, give or take. While I was waiting, there was a beautiful dog to feed and play with. John was friendly during the process, and it seemed more genuine than trying to keep his business running. The price was quite reasonable as well. I didn't even have to show the coupon. He just set the price to the discounted amount from the start. Great experience. I'll be back if I'm still around Davis the next time I need a smog check! Super good shop, extremely trustworthy, and knows his stuff. I was traveling from Colorado and the car drastically overheated. I pulled into a Valero station, and was really scared and upset, as I know next to nothing about car issues. Jon happened to be standing in line to purchase something as I was telling the clerk about it and not knowing what to do. Jon approached me and said he knew things about cars, and that although he wasn't trying to sell me anything, maybe he could help me. He opened the hood and saw the issue. I had blown my radiator. He offered to take it into his shop, which was just down the block. He seemed very trustworthy, so I decided to do just that. He drove my car for me, since I was scared to at that point, and let me drive his car back. Jon went over and above what many mechanics do. He explained everything to me, costs associated with it, and length of time. When after one day of repairs the issue was still not completely resolved, he explained the further troubleshooting, possible outcomes, and possible further repairs needed. I had to fly to Milwaukee at that point, and he kept me informed while I was at my event. The vehicle did not need the most drastic, extensive repairs that had been a possibility (new engine), but just needed a new thermostat along with the new radiator and hoses. Since I was flying back in late on a Saturday night, he arranged a way that I could pick up the vehicle at midnight on Saturday. I have driven back to Colorado since the vehicle was fixed by Jon, and everything works perfect. He even fixed a accessory charger that wasn't working, and I think he fixed a door light that was on all the time, because it's not on anymore. These are just a couple examples of how he goes above and beyond. I completely appreciate Jon's honesty, trustworthiness, and top-notch work. He treated me with respect and kindness, and I feel he got the repairs done in record time. Absolutely recommend this shop to any car repairs you may need. read more

I had previously gone here to smog my cars. He is always fast and the waiting room has water and coffee. Jon repaired the window motor on my wife's Subaru and was able to keep the costs low. I went here based on reviews and convenience (literally live about 3 minutes away), and I am glad I did. While not a huge difference, the price seems, on average, about $5 to $10 less than other Davis places. John (the owner, I presume?) was quick, and apologetic for the "wait" (I was there for a less than a half hour). He seemed very customer service oriented, both with me and with two customers who came in after me. He found out who was in a hurry (they came in at the same time), and offered the guy not as much in a hurry a discount to do his second. Real stand-up move, for both customers. I am not a big fan of giving five stars, but this guy is pretty close, and would love to leave a 4.5 read more

I called to see if the guy was available to do a smog check and if we needed an appointment. He said he was available, there wasn't a wait, and we didn't need an appointment. I told him we should be there shortly. Showed up to the place 5-10 minutes after our conversation and the guy wasn't there. His associate next door said the guy just stepped out for 10-15 minutes, so my wife and I decided to wait it out. 15 minutes later, no show. Tired of waiting, we decided to leave and go somewhere else. I called to make sure that he was there to perform a smog check. He was very quick with my car and informed me about wait time and what the procedure was for the whole smog check deal. I am really impressed with the service that I received here, especially after getting a great deal to smog my Jeep, which has had major problems passing smog in the past. I only ran into one problem and that was my gas cap had a slight leak and failed, but Instead of the technician offering to sell me one, or have me drive halfway across town to pick one up, he threw it in and gave it to me, Free of charge!
