Do not, I can not enunciate this clearly enough, DO NOT get an interlock from here. They are known to screw people over in the industry. They will put you under a contract without telling you, they will charge you for "broken machines" that are clearly not broken and automatically deduct it from your account, in the amount of $1,800. They tack on hidden fees everywhere they possibly can. They have been in multiple and countless lawsuits for their reckless and predatory behavior. And in their contract you didn't know you signed, they have fees added if you try to dispute any fees. To top all of this off, they don't answer your phone calls, and if they do, the people they employ are absolutely horrendous, and will yell at you and hang up on you. They are in a class action lawsuit, and they have changed their name in the past to hide their horrible predatory behavior. And even on top of ALL of that.... their technician had the audacity to blow dirty into my breathalyzer and report it to a probation officer. The device is so poorly constructed and clearly designed to break due to the affects of the cold and just normal wear and tear, and yet they will charge you $1,600+ for the plastic casing, which probably costs $20. You can't take the device inside your house, which means the cold will make the plastic brittle. It's designed to break and they know it. The company has been investigated many times, but uses their lawyers to sue anyone willing to stand up to them. The owners are psychopathic and do not care the harm they cause to people. A1 Interlock is a predatory company that takes advantage of people who are in an already desperate situation. And many of us feel we have nowhere to turn because of the way society labels us. We also feel we have no recourse against the company's abusive fees because they hold our mode of transportation hostage. I've posted my experience below, and you can find many more just like mine by reading the Yelp, Google, and Facebook reviews. When I signed up for their interlock service, which was court ordered, they offered a set fee of $49. When I received my charge, it was $69. Despite bringing this to their attention, it was never fixed to the lower rate that was promised. They have also charged me an extra 10 to 15 dollar fee every month on top of their monthly fee, and I still cannot get an explanation of what that fee is for. Their equipment malfunctions and breaks on a consistent basis, but instead of fixing the issues, they charge the customer and completely deny any fault. They do not go over their contract, instead you are ushered to a cubicle with a computer to watch a video. The information they give you is not transparent at all. The salesman helping me seemed to not want to talk about the specifics of the contract and assured me I would receive an emailed copy of the contract and did not. I was left alone to read the contract and test the device. Once the paperwork is signed, you're told to text them if you have any issues, however they rarely respond to texts and if/when they do, they blame the issue on you. I was stranded at a grocery store with my kids during one of the bigger snowstorms of the year and no one was willing to help me. The response I received from my text for help was that I was causing the issue and not using the device correctly. I had been using the device for months with no issues. The issue from that day continued throughout the winter. When the device is cold, it doesn't function properly, but in the warmer months it works as it should and somehow that is my fault? I moved out of state and left my car in Utah because I couldn't afford their insane removal fee. During that time I was supposed to pay for a $75 mobile calibration, the fee was discussed over the phone and I was assured twice that $75 is all I had to pay for a mobile appointment. When the mobile calibration was ordered mid-January, I was charged $150 (again no explanation for the increased charge). The mobile tech was not able to start the vehicle for calibration due to a "dead battery", and I was unable to contact anyone in customer service to reschedule. I was sent a text that gave me very little information about the issue and was referred to their customer service phone number. After returning from Utah, I charged my battery but couldn't operate my vehicle due to the interlock. After calling Interlock, I was told the car was locked due to the no-show incident in January and I would have to pay a $55 fee to have the interlock unlocked. I paid the fee and the code given to unlock the device didn't work. I received a second code while I was on the phone with the customer service agent and the new code also did not work. The representative on the phone then explained that the code would only not work if it had already been used. I input the code immediately after receiving it with the agent on the phone and it didn't work. Again, they blamed me and I was told I would have to pay another $150 mobile fee to have a tech come and fix the issue or I could have the car towed to them at my expense. This is an ongoing issue with A1 and the Yelp reviews, Google reviews and Facebook reviews all paint a very clear picture of how this company runs. I understand that those in society who've been court ordered to have an interlock are looked down upon. Most of us made a terrible mistake and chose poorly, but we have also have paid our fines, completed probation and have done everything to get back on track. To have a company take advantage of people who have already had their entire lives turned upside down is very concerning, especially when they are recommended by the court system. Many people have looked into legal action against A1, but we really have nowhere to turn. I know I'm not the only one desperate to have this company looked into. I'm not the only one who feels they have no way out from under this predatory and abusive company. Whatever you do, do not give in to the low price of their service. They are not transparent. They are not honest and they don't hold themselves accountable for their devices not working properly. They charge fees for everything and don't explain the charges unless you call them. When you do call, expect to be put on hold and treated poorly by every agent aside from Emily who has actually tried to reconcile these issues without placing blame on me. I'm stressed out because without knowing how much I owe or given the opportunity to pay any owing balances, I'm sure they will have no problem charging me late fees or possibly sending me to collections. The most unethical company I've ever encountered. When device was installed, I indicated there was a hairline crack in the device to the tech. He said it wouldnt' affect the device. 6 months later and I have to install the new camera and device and they say the device is damaged and charged $1650 to my account, and wouldn't give me my car unless I signed something saying I agreed I damaged it (which I didn't) . . I try to dispute and they will not budge. And they kept the unit. When I was there, a woman before me was crying. Same thing happened to her except she couldn't pay so they held her car as collateral. Each day they charged fees . After a few days, it's completely out of reach to pay without a loan. In addition, they made it mandatory to come in and swap to new equipment, and because they are "busy", indicated they would charge an extra $400 to install and charge me after hours rates. Even though my appt was Thursday at 2:00. I had to get my car fixed at repair shop and knew enough to have mechanics call so when they turned on car, I wouldn't get another penalty for not blowing. Made the right calls, Got home and had a $70 charge for not blowing they won't take off. You can't win. They take advantage of a poor population. Update: Since A1 has seen my review and responded I've recieved multiple texts informing me I had a violation, I've been charged for lockout fee($83), no show fee for the appointment that they tied me to and then disabled my vehicle despite paying them ($27.5) violation fee ($50) Funfact- I had an ankle monitor on that would've reported if I had alcohol as I have been enrolled in the 24/7 sobriety program. They will lie, extort and report false violations in an attempt to make more money from you. My vehicle was calibrated on Monday. Thursday of this week they locked me out again. Now the whole thing starts again. I haven't driven more than two times since they calibrated my car and now it's locked out for whatever reason they choose. I'm getting a lawyer involved now. So far this has been such a terrible experience- pay $20 more somewhere else and have a better experience. I had requested an appointment two weeks before my calibration was due and the appointment given (which you can only make blind appointments with day and time ranges ON THEIR APP!) The appointment that they gave me was past my calibration due time. I tried to get an earlier time repeatedly to no avail. I ended up getting locked out of my vehicle two days before my appointment. Given I'm a single parent, and need my car I had to pay $52 to get a 72 hour code. I got the code, and the car worked fine. For one day. Then I was locked out again. When I called, James, who I've had the displeasure of speaking with informed me that the only way to get my car to the calibration appointment is to tow my vehicle in at my cost. He continued to speak over me and refused to acknowledge any questions informing me that he had answered anything I should have a question for. After towing my car from salt lake to Sandy I was told they couldn't do it that day and I needed to wait until monday. I'm out money and treated like a low class citizen instead of a paying customer. Avoid A1 at all cost for your own sanity, wallet, and mental health. I would also like to add that I had no missed or failed tests either as I've not had any substance in my body for almost two years. This is a simple way of them making more money, and not holding true to what they say they will do. Consider yourself warned. Side note: On the BBB there are many reviews stating that customers were charged for the device after the tech damaged the device. I came in for a scheduled calibration on Friday to have my device start screaming at me on Sunday for maintenance. That is what the Friday appointment was for. I called them and they said I would have to come in to get it reset so I did. The problem here is they want to hold you accountable for anything that comes with this device, but when they screw-up they will not hold themselves accountable. If they have to come to you and find that you are at fault for the maintenance reasoning, they charge you. If they screw up and you have to come to them, you get nothing. It would have been nice to get an apology for screwing up and offering a discount on the next month for the inconvenience of having to come back down due to their negligence. I am writing to express my complete dissatisfaction with your Interlock Services Co. I came to your Company on 1/11/20 and you were initially cheaper than what I had before. But after using your company for a few months it became clear why it was cheaper. Because you have 20 or so fake "violations" that you charge for and you end up being 3 times more expensive than anyone else! 1. The device just continually beeps no matter how many times I blow into it. Your Manager told me that it has to do with my car's Alternator and Battery not being strong enough for your system. I had the battery fully charged at the Dealership. There is nothing wrong with it. The car starts and runs just fine. I asked to take it out and they said they would charge me for the entire contract even though I wouldn't have the device in the car! I had a prior servicer and there was NEVER a phone "alternator" charge- Not once. And I have been with the new company for 8 months and not ONE charge relating to the battery or alternator. 2. After a few of these violations, you locked me out of my car- TWICE- and made me late to work. You made me wait an hour and a half for a code and then charged $60 for it. They asked if I wanted to go ahead and do the calibration that day so I wouldn't have to come back again in 2 weeks. I said yes and paid in advance for several months. Then you charged me $50 for "early calibration". You charged me to pay you early!?!?!?!? 3. When I asked to have it removed since it clearly was incompatible with your system, I was told they would take it out, but I would be billed for the entire contract even though you would be doing nothing for me and I would have to double pay to put another one in my car as well. When I complained to the Division of Motor Vehicles and she contacted your location, you finally agreed to take it our of my car and then charged me $53 for having more than 5 violations. BUYER BEWARE!! They are the cheapest provider, but they are WORST, shadiest, and slimiest provider with very POOR customer service!!! They have very long customer service hold times, if they even answer the phone. When they do answer the phone, they immediately say, "A1 Interlock, please hold." But if you press the option for sales, you bet they answer those calls immediately. Customer service is extremely defensive and argumentative and rude! Just read the rest of these Google reviews for an example. They would rather argue with you to "be right, or have the last word." It's a pathetic way to conduct a business! Good luck with dealing with those two. Sounds like, they are the only two personnel who ever answer their phone calls. You are signing a service contract for any given amount of months, my installer chose 18 months, as that was the date I gave him because I wasn't sure how many months I needed it. So, If you want the device uninstalled, they will charge you for all the remaining months as an early termination fee. You will be expected to pay that amount in order to have the device uninstalled. So I had to pay over $1000 to have the device removed, and when I wasn't able to pay that amount, they kept my car hostage. I had to find the money first, in order to get possession of my car back. I read their contract, and it only indicates that they can impound the vehicle in order to retain possession of their equipment. It does not indicate anything in regards to the situation above. I haven't mentioned their fees list, the trouble they caused with my bank account, and all the other headaches they caused because I don't have the energy. Just stay away from this business! This is HILARIOUS! After filing my complaint with consumer protection while they have an active lawsuit pending against you. You never showed me my device in person. You take my keys and haul my car away to the back where you do god knows what. After explaining my contract & having it to show my bank, I realized that your company builds on people in situations they're trying to learn from. WORST OF THE WORST COMPANY ON EARTH!!!!!! Dishonest company ALERT! They WILL charge you $1700 for nothing and have ZERO customer service, won't answer during business hours, and call for over 2 hours multiple days only to have them pick up the phone and immediately hang up. Impound your car, make you stranded in Sandy when it's snowing, and demand $800 cash only to get your car when you were on the phone with them 3 hours before and they don't mention ON PURPOSE so they can collect more money from you from violations and failing to do little things on their app. They also FALSELY accuse you of missing your appointment that was falsely set at 12pm, however, you set the appointment with customer service 2 weeks in advance for 3pm. Then while still on the phone with customer service to schedule this 3pm appointment and your app on the phone also updates in real time and it shows the same date and time for 3pm scheduled, pending and then CONFIRMED. so then 2 weeks go by and then they claim that i missed my appointment at 12pm when nobody made that appointment, and you could see on the app they use for scheduling that theres no appointment for 12pm when they're claiming, but still shows the 3pm that you made 2 weeks ago, but they just charge you ANYWAY and they know that you cant get your money back and they can do anything they want to get your money out of your wallet. I have proof (screen shots) that there was no 12pm appointment, but there was a CONFIRMED 3PM appointment, but they charged me anyway..... they also did a similar thing that would take a lot of words to describe, but they robbed and stole 1700 and another 210 and another 112 and another 200 another 50 another 110 from my bank account without letting me know through email or a phone call or text. They literally just feel entitled to take whatever money they want from your account and then try and make up stories about how you violated the rules only if they bend the rules and then feel like they want to take your money. Theres no easy way to dispute it once you sign the contract and they are allowed to rob you of your money at any moments notice cause it automatically takes money from your account even before they try and make sure there was a valid violation taking place. Every detail about A1 Interlock is to twist the rules of perception so they can withdraw whatever money they want from your account. I also have pictures of the USED, scratched, and slightly damaged interlock device the SECOND i got it on and i first sat down in my car when they installed it. There are multiple scratches and it's clearly used and not new. They claim every device is brand new, but does brand new come with multiple deep scratches the first minute it's installed and the car is driven back around to the parking lot for you to get into your car? A1 Interlock deserves a massively infinite NEGATIVE STAR rating for being ridiculously shady and then not acting like a real company when your customers have simple questions that need to be answered and you call for hours multiple times and they purposefully hang up on you and won't even hear what questions you have to ask when they just barely stole over 2 thousand dollars from my bank account. It's VERY likely that you'll be seeing me in small claims court for your shady business operation..... you see, this company, A1 Interlock is akin to a scamming business at virtually every decision they make with their customers and the violations they hope will stick and the hope that their customers won't have enough money to fight back once they get it off and end their unethical enumerations in their contract scamming operation. I see exactly what you're doing here, so good luck, A1 Interlock to stay in business much longer with the immense amount of other 1 star reviews. By far the worst experience I've ever experienced by any company or business ever. They completely scam you, lie to you, and hit you with fees without explanation. They promised to remove the interlock device and break contract FOR FREE so we could go to another company we have made the appointment they took the car back, we patiently waited for them to do their thing and got hit with a 50$ charge no explanation, no one coming and explaining anything they avoid you so we called.. they are saying we have to fork over a thousand dollars to get the vehicle back or they will Impound the car. DO NOT come here unless you have thousands in your account ready to be unexplainably taken otherwise YOU WILL lose your car. Also make sure you have nothing important in the car and have everything you need on your person as well as a back up ride. You will not be able to get anything out of it. Take photos of your device as well each time you go in otherwise you will get accused of damaging it but they will refuse to show you the evidence. Update: we have since contacted the police, contacted BBB and corporate. Corporate has retaliated and said because there was a police report made they will no longer help. While we were there another gentleman got his car taken as well except they wanted 5,000 upfront or take the loss. They have left me 8 months pregnant, my 7yr old son and my husband stranded. read more
