A Visual Affair

I have no issues with the quality of the examination or my in-person interactions with Dr. Glasser…read more(several appointments over many years). My issue is the way I was treated on my last visit by his assistant after it became apparent to her that I would not be buying frames or lenses from the practice. Her attitude immediately changed when I asked for a prescription. She stood up, went to ring up my copayment, and when she returned with the prescription she remained standing and was abrupt with me when I asked her to explain the change in my prescription, which was in a format I was not familiar with based on what I received in prior visits. I'm an educated person who wants to know how things work and what numbers actually mean, not merely to be told that "any qualified optician will understand" the prescription. I was made to feel stupid and like I was an imposition so I left and fed the prescription into ChatGPT which politely explained it to me, including how a progressive prescription can be translated into single vision distance and reading prescriptions, and what the numbers mean. AI was more polite and patient with me than the assistant. Despite having no issues with the doctor himself, I will not be returning to this practice in the future. The barriers between patients and medical information are evaporating due to AI. Doctors would be well advised to ensure that they and their staffs at least match the courtesy of ChatGPT. Update: In response to Dr. Glasser's comment, all I can say is that it would have taken his assistant less than a minute to sit down and politely explain to me the meaning of the numbers. Regardless of whether I'm dealing with an optometrist or a cardiologist, I take it upon myself to gain a thorough understanding of my heath, which is what ChatGPT provided and the assistant did not. If the doctor doesn't want to take constructive feedback on such a simple point, then I suppose that my decision to go elsewhere is the right one.

He then said, the appt will be 15 min tops, so it's not a time to ask questions. I said, of course I want to be able to ask a couple questions, espec bc of eye irritation lately. He said, "I see your insurance is (x) and that only pays us like $60 per visit. We can't give patients longer than 15, we'd go out of business" (!) I couldn't believe it. The rudeness and the gall of mentioning my coverage resulted in poor profit for them. I suggested he NOT say those things to new or returning patients and he said he was trying to manage expectations, that patients "always complain" they want to be seen longer but it's not doable. Talk about poor patient relations/ customer service. I realize what the medical system is up against w insurance is rough, but never has a public-facing clinic employee been so dissuading about the care their provider provides. I can't NOT recommend this place enough; take your business to an office that will value it.

Beautiful eyes dilated for less I recently was diagnosed with bilateral retinopathy. I have diabetes and was told that I needed to have an eye examination to see how bad my eyes had diminished since my diagnosis from my endocrinologist. I was very nervous about this because I do not like someone messing with my eyes. My friend told me about A Visual Affair. He said he had purchased his contacts there and was impressed with the store. When I went into the store, a store employee named Veronica approached me and greeted me with a warm smile. She asked me if she could help me with anything. I told her that my physician had told me to get an eye examination due to my vision problems associated with my diabetes. She smiled and asked me to have a seat in the clinical chair while she went and got the doctor. The optometrist came in and shook my hand. He began to explain to me about the procedure and then he asked me if I had any questions that he may answer for me. I told him no but thanked him for his professionalism. When the procedure was over, I was very happy. I was very happy with the services provided by my optometrist and his clinical assistant. They were nice and friendly and put me at ease before the procedure began. This made my nervousness subside almost immediately. There was no "white coat syndrome." I would like to offer a 5 star review for A Visual Affair and their professional staff and I will definitely refer all of my friends and co-workers if they need any eye exams or eye wear. They were awesome! read more

I have been a customer at A Visual Affair for a year now. My first visit was back in spring of 2012 when I had to get a new prescription for my contact lenses. I'm honestly surprised at the poor reviews here as I have never had any trouble. I used the yelp $25 for $50 coupon and had no problems with it. I know that sometimes other stores will give customers problems for using online coupons but the process here was smooth and service-oriented. The staff there, and especially Dr. Bindal was extremely professional and scheduling the appointment was easy. (I called rather than using ZocDoc which is also available) I recently visited again last month for my yearly eye exam for both contacts and glasses. I checked in at the front desk and within 5 minutes was brought into the screening room. I went back at a later date for an eye dilation checkout and was in and out in less than 30 minutes. In addition to purchasing my contacts at A Visual Affair, I was given some extra contact solution, which was very appreciated as solution is often costly. Every experience I've had at A Visual Affair has been professional and I would suggest it to anyone working in the DC area. The convenience, service, and quality of the personnel and Dr. Bindal's attentiveness makes it a stress-free experience for anyone looking for glasses, contacts, or the usual eye exam. read more

AMAZING!!!!!! I cannot say enough times how AWESOME service here is. I came here to get an exam for glasses as well as contacts. Dr Bindal was so professional and thoroughly explained everything from A to Z for me in detail. He even gave me trial contacts to walk out with since I needed them desperately at the time. His staff Rosa and Veronica were also very helpful & nice as they helped me look for glasses (which took forever since I'm very particular about my glasses). They also explained my insurance benefits to me in detail and I was told the breakdown of the prices before I purchased any materials. I was even given a discount on my contact lens exam! Their frames are absolutely beautiful and they have many different styles. I have and will continue to recommend this place to everyone who needs glasses and/or contacts. I am extremely satisfied with my experience here, best service I have received in a while. read more

When I needed an eye exam and contact lenses, I decided to go to A Visual Affair. I am use to buying designer stuff, so I decided to buy designer eye wear. It was nice because my medical insurance covered the cost of the appointment, so I didn't have to pay out-of-pocket to get my eyes checked. It doesn't matter if you go to the DC office or the Virginia office, you will save yourself money. A couple of my friends said they didn't like their experience at the DC office; however, I enjoyed my experience when I got my eyes checked. According to the latest research, the DC office has 2.5 stars, but it will get better. The employee that serviced my order is Veronica. No matter which office you decide to use, you will get employees who will give you good customer service and the utmost professionalism that you deserve. read more

I first stumbled upon A Visual Affair because I had heard of these new things called 'Groupons' a few years back and didn't have visual included with my insurance plan Dr. Bindal was very professional and courteous, as well as his staff - and trust me each time I'm there I spend at least an hour and a hand picking my new set of frames with the assistance of the 'girls' upfront! It's so much fun! The girls upfront won't let me leave if I'm unsatisfied as a customer, they are truly one of a kind. Ohh and for Dr. Bindal it's hard to find doctors of any kind who actually care about their patients anymore; but Dr. Bindal clearly loves his job and his patients! I eventually received a check for the cost of replacing the glasses, approximately 2 months after I had initially dropped them off. I was so disgusted by the entire experience that I no longer wanted the doctor's money, so I decided to give it to a charity. Coincidentally, a friend of mine on Long Island had just rescued a very sick bird and brought it into a wildlife shelter, where it remains even now, a week or so after she brought it in. So I signed over the check to the wildlife center and sent it to them. I'm sure the charity is grateful to the doctor for his generous donation. read more
