I haven't been to A-Town Pizza since high school when it was on San Antonio & Park so I can't really compare it to how it was back then. But honestly, we got exactly what we were expecting from a pepperoni pizza. Flavor profile and all. Im usually the type to be able to eat a whole pizza to myself but I feel like this pizza was just "heavier" than others, and I mean no disrespect when I write that. This place is my longtime favorite place for pizza. Today I ordered a medium calzone! A calzone is often described as a folded pizza, a pizza turnover, or an inside-out pizza. The calzone I got looked like a huge turnover shaped like a crescent moon. I wasn't sure how to slice it, so I cut it into 4 pieces. A medium calzone is about $14.95, and has 4 fillings. I asked for pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, and mozzarella cheese. It was good, it was like eating a pie. Seemed a little dry because the dough is on the outside. Avoid this place like the plague they have beautiful pictures on their walls upfront on the windows showing great food once you get it they literally skimp you on the items. The place was empty. There was one person in there. I think I was around there for about an hour waiting on my food after calling them half an hour before pickup. He told me 20 minutes took about an hour. With no customers in there and 3 people back there working. I was wondering why they had such a low score on yelp because the pictures look but when I got my item, granted I asked him to adjust my order. I didn't want any rice. I just wanted meat. They literally give you like a small handful of meat tucked away in one of those little corners of a styrofoam plate. Nothing like the pictures and they gave me a whole bowl full of lettuce all for $21 like yo and then the guy got mad when I brought it back and respectfully tried to explain and show the issue. Obviously I needed a refund cause you can't see the kitchen you never know. So i ask to get a refund started arguing with me then when he finally paid me, he started insulting me started throwing out all type of insults, avoid this place like the plague. They told me because of the extra ingredients that I would have to pay $10 more dollars. The regular combination had far more ingredients than my request. I would've been better off ordering their regular combo and asking them to omit the 5 ingredients I didn't want. Furthermore, the Hawaiian side only had 3 ingredients. To make matters worst, the egotistical owner had the gall to ask me what I want to pay for those ingredients. This was my first time trying A-Town Pizza. Unfortunately, it will also be my last. The garlic twists were completely burned black and I had to get DoorDash to give me a refund. Why send out food that is burned, inedible, and visually unappealing? In this day and age, when there is so much competition, why not try to make food that will outshine your competition? There's nearly 200 places to get pizza from, in Oakland and Alameda. I always prefer to order from the smaller businesses, as opposed to the chain restaurants. I also ordered an all-meat pizza and I specified the "creamy garlic white sauce". The pizza was so dry and there was no taste of garlic at all. I was very disappointed. There were also so few toppings. You get more toppings on a $2 frozen pizza than you do at A-Town. The garlic bread with cheese also had no garlic flavor at all. I hate to give you a bad review, but when I spend over $50 for a meal, I should be raving about it to my friends, not spending my afternoon trying to get refunded and complaining, and wishing I'd ordered from somewhere else. read more
