We could not be happier with the work from A To Z Airflow.  To begin with, Darren, Joe and Nick were great about communicating.  I believe that Daren, in particular, is gifted in his interpersonal skills.  He was thorough and detailed at communicating details about what needed to be done and why.  He gave us lots of options to manage cost and he was extremely clear about what the pricing was in advance.  In addition to that, he is personable, friendly and really a delight to work with. Darren hires great people to do the work.  We had the pleasure of working with both Joe and Nick.  Nick was our installer.  He was amazing.  I've never seen a work ethic like Nick's.  He had a tough job in our attic (the temperature of which was like the surface of the sun) and he stayed until 10:00 at night rather than leave us another night with no air conditioning during a heat wave.  I would like to mention that I'm dealing with some serious health problems which affect my energy and ability to manage temperature extremes.  I didn't communicate this to Nick ahead of time and he still went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that we were taken care of. The guy was late. And he did NOT honor the coupon on Yelp for $150 for $100. His reasoning was because I did not tell him I was using a coupon before the service. Strange reasoning because no where does it say that I need to inform him that I am using a coupon to pay. I could understand that some coupons do not work on certain days or certain services, but his reasoning was because I didn't tell him I was using the coupon. I was telling him right then that I am going to use the coupon. Why have a coupon if you do not allow patrons to use it, seems like a shady marketing scheme? That's ridiculous. There were a few reasons why I selected this company. One was because it has great reviews on Yelp. Another was because of this coupon. Granted, he fixed what was wrong, but he charged so much for such a simple fix that it almost borders on taking advantage of people. It's hard to find an honest repairman, and I thought that reading reviews on here might steer me in the right direction, but nope. The problem was with a wall furnace that needed the pilot light ignited. He charged me $150 to light the furnace light AND he did NOT honor the coupon. I understand he came out on a Saturday night to look at the problem. But he came out late because he lost my information, address, and phone number so he did not have a way to contact me to tell me he wasn't going to show up. I had to call him and he was happy that I called him back because otherwise he would have never showed up at all. Geez, talk about being irresponsible. He ruined my entire evening. read more

My furnace is nearly 30 years old. We recently listed our condo for sale and our agent said we need to fix the heating system before we eventually close escrow or give the buyer an allowance. Darren, the service tech, was sent to our home and checked the heater. After he found the problem he recommended replacing the electric furnace due to the age of the system. Once I told him the home is up for sale, he offered a repair option that would solve the problem. He practically rebuilt our heater and serviced the Air conditioner too. He was argumentative when I called to ask why his pricing on the phone did not match the quote....bait and switch! In the end I paid $260 for a $27 part to be installed. With all the alternative AC contractors available, think twice befofe you use this one. The Technician who came out was professional and timely. The owner should consider replacing Darren with the tech who did my repair. Do not fall for the EXPENSIVE follow up. Paying extra to make sure the job was done correctly amounts to insanity. To begin, this review is based on the pricing policy Darren uses. He charges $125 just to show up. If he does any work it will cost you a minimum of $325, no matter how minor the issue. In my case, the two year old condenser fan stop working. A simple google search tells me it's probably one of two items, a fan motor which retails for under $100 or a capacitor which retails for under $50. Darren quickly and properly diagnosed the issue as a faulty capacitor, the cheaper of the two parts. So far so good. Darren claimed the part was more expensive than it was. I found the exact make and model on-line for cheaper than he quoted. He insist on charging a flat rate of $325 even in the case of a minor issue. I tried in vain to get he to explain why he thought $325 was a fair price given the part was only $25 and he worked for only 45 minutes. He refused to breakdown the parts and labor like an auto mechanic usually does. He originally claimed that the $125 goes towards the work, but in our case the numbers just don't add up. According to Darren $125 + $25 = $325. This review is not meant to be negative towards his knowledge of air conditioning and heating, but rather a shady pricing policy he has. In short, if you call A to Z, and have work completed, it will cost a minimum of $325 or more. Be prepared to pay higher prices. read more

I got great service on my air conditioner from Darren who came over on the evening of the same day that I called him. He knows his stuff. He got my system running that evening but what I appreciated most was that he really explained the ins and outs of my system and the issues it has so that I could make an informed decision on what course of action is sensible and effective. I have no doubt that Darren has good people to install a brand-new system, but I also trust him to look after my older unit to lengthen its life before I am ready to replace it. A 96º day is not a good day to have your AC blow burning fumes into your house instead of cold air. So I looked up the top hit on Yelp in my area and they recommended a service that wouldn't even give me a straight answer about how much the repair could be or what the range of prices could be...even after I told them that I need a motor replaced. (Thanks Yelp.) So I Googled instead and found A-Z Airflow. Darren was very professional - up front price estimate, called in to check in when he couldn't arrive at the agreed time (I took the day off so I was flexible), and allowed me to watch him work while he walked me through exactly what he was doing, what needed to be repaired, what his recommendations were, and how much it would cost. Unlike most repair contractors, he LOVED talking and explaining about what he was doing, which vibes well with my engineering ass. He said up front that his services will cost slightly more, but that I would be paying for the professionalism and the peace of mind that he would not have to return for the same problem...this is the kind of honesty that I would pay extra for. My experience with Darren from A to Z Airflow was spectacular. He is stand up guy. I was doing business with him because my landlord is a slum lord and a tightwad jerk. Daren could not do the work without authorization from my landlord, and after 2 months of pleading with my landlord to get the heater fixed he finally agreed to go half with me to fix it. Darren sent a technician to diagnose my wall heater and I paid him $100 out of my own pocket. He then gave a quote to the landlord and landlord was being difficult and said no. Legit! I called A to Z to see about my central air blowing slow, and Darren gave me enough info over the phone to try without having to pay a tech to come out. I love businesses that won't charge you for things you can do yourself. If it ends up it is an issue I can't fix or figure out A to Z will be the guys I call from here on out, and I be willing to pay because I know they could have taken advantage and sent someone, and charged me for nothing, but they didn't. This company is a big rip off, they were able to come on time but had no idea how to even fix our ice machine. He estimated a huge amount of money for us to pay which is just as much as we would pay for a brand new ice maker, he only checked it and did not put any effort into try and fix it. Well, to be honest Daren did find what was wrong with the A/C. The first thing that he needed to test was the compressor. I had to pay $35 extra for the diagnostic because of the extra minute it took to remove six screws to get access to the compressor. I ended up paying $170 to "cover his expenses". And he doesn't subtract the cost of the diagnostic from the repair as others do. Just be aware. read more

I haven't used my central air conditioning/heating for a while. The weather has been extremely hot, I decided to turn it on but It didn't work. When I called at 4:30pm the technician he was working in Montebello, he said he will be finishing soon and can get to my house by 5:30pm. This company repaired the air conditioner at my office during the summer, so I called them again for my much needed heater repair at my home. The furnace in our house was serviced by another company last winter, but when the cold weather started, our heating system was down again. Well, once again it was A to Z Airflow to the rescue. This time for a commercial ice machine repair. The ice had turned a yellowish color. They came out, changed the water filter, replaced the old copper water lines, and completely serviced the ice machine. It's working great now. I will always call these guys first. A couple of years ago they saved me some major bucks after another contractor tried to sell me a new air conditioner for my rental property for $6,500.00.
