Worst customer service. I will not be using them to do any work in my yard. I called to get a estimate on some tree trimming and removal of a pine tree. Kevin came out and gave me a quote over the phone and when I asked for a written quote was flat out told no. Cause I could use that written quote and give it to other companies and get a better price. When I said I don't trust a verbal quote since they can go back on their word I was they don't do business that way and never will since they are a family business and he was part of the family. We ended up going with a Sun State because we had seen the trucks in the neighborhood. I would never do it again, and I would absolutely caution anybody from using them. We still have a mess in our yard from them after we paid for them to remove all the mulch from grinding the stump. They never completed the job and now they said they underbid it. Absolutely awful customer service. This company broke our neighbor's fence over two weeks ago when trimming our trees and it's still not fixed. We have called them countless times and they keep promising to show up and fix it, but still nothing. Meanwhile our neighbors are growing increasingly frustrated with us (and for good reason). Additionally, they make a complete mess when trimming and do a pretty crappy job of cleaning up. They destroyed many of our plants and left branches, leaves, and debris everywhere - both in our yard an in the neighbor's. My two cents - avoid them. They don't deserve your business. read more

I had Sun State Trees come and trim some trees, I was guaranteed if they damaged anything they would repair. Well, a tree limb fell on my pool screen enclosure and tore 2 panels. They guaranteed they would repair and this was stated before I contracted with them. Well 5 calls later and no response to my request. On Monday August 17 2020 a very large water oak that was in my backyard that had been hit by lightning split and the top came crashing down. At that point I needed to get the rest of the tree cust down asap as a very large branch was remaining over my house. I had used A Sun State Tree previously to remove several large water oaks in my front yard and had a very good experience with them then. So I called them first. A sales consultant Kevin was out within an hour and gave me an estimate of 2500 to "remove" it as was written on the contract. I agreed and signed the contract. They had a crew out within two hours at about 3PM in the afternoon. They quickly went to work and cleaned up debris, cut off the large limbs over my house etc. Shortly before 5 Kevin asked if I could give them payment. Normally I would not pay for a service until complete but due to my good past experiences I said ok and gave him payment. The crew cut down the rest of th tree that was standing (leaving it in my yard)and said they would be back tomoorrow to cut it up and get the rest of the debris. The next Day no one showed up in the morning and I called and was told they would be there that afternoon. The following day the same thing and when I called I was assured someone would be there that afternoon. No one showed. This went on for two more days same thing. I called Kevin in the afternoon the 4th day who did not answer and I left a message and he never returned my call. I then went to the interent and saw lots of reports from people saying they did not complete work. in my case the crew was here a little over 2 hours cut down the rest of the tree (leaving it in my yard) and took only a third of the debris. They left a pile of logs on my front lawn near the road I had to remove at this point so my grass did not get killed. I have never had such a bad experience with a service of any kind. First I had two large trees removed from the front of my property by Sun State and they left two huge mounds of dirt in the areas for weeks before putting grass down. Then I was promised 2 weeks for my landscaping to be put in, 2 1/2 months later it was still not in. I get the owner involved and he had his crew come over one day I wasn't here and threw plants and mulch in that I didn't authorize. I relayed this information and they came over same day and removed everything, including the mulch and 15 plants that were mine before everything started. I called and told them they stole my property and I wanted it back right away. They proceeded to come back over, only give me 15 super small plants (mine were full grown) and no mulch. Upon them leaving I noticed 2 huge cuts, obviously done by a shovel, to my sprinkler system which is now costing me hundreds to fix. Most unreliable company I've ever worked with. read more

WHAT A NIGHTMARE! How do I give zero stars? It has now been three weeks since A Sun State Tree Service came to remove a large oak tree from our yard and I have a large patch of mud in front of my house, deep ruts running through my front yard and neighbor's yard, and a hole with exposed plumbing by my water shutoff valve. The response to these issues has been extremely unprofessional so I wish I had seen the other reviews before we hired them. The first communication the crew had with us (other than asking for a check before the job was done) was knocking on the door and asking if I had a shovel while water and mud was spraying in my yard and trying to get someone out to fix the damage has been ridiculous. I don't remember the exact order of events (because it has been three weeks) but at one point it started raining and everyone just drove off. I don't remember if all of the limbs were gone or if the water was fixed. It took them several tries to fix the broken pipe and I know the Bobcat driver was the last one here and came back after most people had left. He was the one who said he talked to the owner and they would be back NEXT WEEK (meaning the week after the tree was removed which was on a Saturday) to grind the stump and fix the yard. I gave them a full week to fix the damage assuming they would do what thy said they would do. I called the office the next Monday and the woman who answered the phone was pretty rude. She asked who my salesman was and when I said I didn't know she acted like I was an idiot for not knowing the name of the guy my wife talked to about a month before. I didn't hear anything for 2 days so I called back and talked to the same woman. This time I had the name of my sales person, ANGELO. I didn't hear from Angelo until the next day and he said they would "probably" be able to do something about the neighbor's yard but "probably not" mine. I let him know this wasn't acceptable. A few days later, I got a text from Angelo: "Your stump tomm.taking pics.to owner about grass. Angelo sunstatetree" I can only assume this means he was taking pictures of the damage to show the owner and the stump would be removed "tomorrow". That is the last communication I have had from A Sun State Tree Service. That was Monday. It is now Saturday. The stump was ground on Tuesday, but we have not had a phone call, text, or even a knock at the door since Monday (including no contact by whoever ground the stump even though my wife was home at the time). The tree was in our front yard near our neighbors driveway and had been struck by lightening and needed to be removed before it fell on our house or neighbor's cars. After cutting down the tree, the Bobcat driver drove back and forth over the easement in front of our house quickly turning the grass into mud. He also drove back and forth over the water shutoff valve eventually breaking the water main. He then attempted to drive on our sidewalk which was too small for the Bobcat so he made a rut down most of the length of our front yard. Then he drove through the neighbor's yard since their driveway was adjacent to the tree. This all could have been avoided by putting some boards down to cover the easement. Less than a hundred dollars with of lumber could have saved hundreds of dollars of damage to my lawn. Now I have to take time next week to either get them to fix it or get someone else to fix it and then try to get the money back from them. WHAT A NIGHTMARE! read more

Tom Stone came out and gave me a quote which was the lowest of four tree companies I solicited. I am sometimes weary of the lowest cost quote, but Tom was very professional, showed up on time and promised a complete job that I would be satisfied with. It was great to have follow through with a courteous crew, who trimmed 5 large oak trees in my yard. In addition to the trimming, they used their chipper to fill an entire truck. I wanted to keep the chips to mulch my beds and they put it exactly where I wanted. They also cut up plenty of wood into logs to stack for next winter. I was approached by Jimmy at Sun State Trees a few weeks ago after he noticed the tarp on our roof. (it was from a huge branch falling on our roof in July) After speaking with him several times he gave us an offer to do our roof and tree trimming that I could not give up. I did, however, express my concerns with past reviews for the company. As a long time Yelper and Elite member I take reviews very seriously for any company. Jimmy assured me that they have taken care of past problems and also promised that he would show up to the job site the day they arrived to remove the trees. Jimmy stayed true to his work and the men that came to do the job were very respectful and did a fine job removing the three dead trees and trimming up the remaining oaks in our yard. They had a guy come by and pick up the wood the very next day and two days later the stumps were grinded. No issues. The stump grinder left some ruts in our yard but those can be taken care of. And they don't remove the mulch... but we can use that around our trees. No big deal. I am sorry for others who have had not so great experiences. For future customers please keep in mind that if you want something done the way you like you need to speak up for yourself and let them know. They are doing a great job but apparently can't please everyone. Great job, guys. I will recommend you to others now. read more

Our neighbors contracted Sun State to cut a large branch off of our Live Oak (that's on our property), that was hanging over their house. Our tree was cabled to hold all the branches together to help from them breaking, as well as cabled for lightning. I went outside to see how they were doing, I saw them cutting my cables. When I finally got the "supervisors" attention, I asked him what he was doing with my cables. He told me "them cables ain't doin you no good!" Well, not anymore I supposed. They left my neighbors property a mess, then I saw they left 2 cables hanging with HUGE logs on the end, dangling. One of the cables was frayed. They never even roped off the area around where the logs were hanging! My neighbor and I started calling them, they came back to clean up his yard from debris a few days later but didn't touch my tree, along with 15 feet of tree stump on the tree, to the neighbors property line. I spoke with Dee in the office first, she did nothing but give attitude and stated that it shouldn't be a problem it's not in my yard. It is in my yard, it's my tree. She promised someone would get back with me. No call, no show. I called again, got another girl who promised the same. I called back the next week only to get Dee again who was belligerent and denouncing that she passed the message on. When I stated I don't work for your company, those people do and I want action, I finally get a call from the estimator. I sent him pictures, he replied he put a "red ticket" on it and someone would be out tomorrow (Saturday) and I was to call the office at 8:01 AM for a time. I got a text from this guy at 8 ish stating to call the office and speak with the owner Randy. My husband called, a little back and forth, Randy states he can't move the equipment here today and they'll be out sometime next week. I taped off the tree with orange caution tape as the neighborhood kids and some adults like to cut thru the yard. The following week, no call, no show. My husband called him again, got excuses. The neighbor kept calling to the point they would no longer answer his calls. The 3rd week they came out unannounced (no one was home), took the logs off the cables, left the 2 cables hanging and didn't finish cutting the branch! I made contact again, no call, no nothing. I will go to the BBB at this point. Again, this owner and company do not need to be in business. Stay far away! read more

Do not hire this company unless you hate your neighbors! My neighbor hired them to take down a really big tree in his yard next to my new fence. They cleaned up his yard pretty good but left my yard a mess. They removed a couple of panels of my new stained fence and then haphazardly nailed it back up cracking the the cross beams in the process. They also dropped the tree on a $200 bamboo tree I recently planted. My wife and I called them 4 times and each time they said they would have someone call me back. They never even bothered. That about sums them up...they could care less about anybody but themselves. We had Sun State trim a large oak and take down a rain tree that was growing into the foundation. The first visit Chris met with me and discussed how important the oak tree was, he was very knowledgeable and reasonable priced. I called him a second time to come out again with more questions, he came out again on time and very patient and explained everything. We hired them! On the day of trimming there were at least 6 guys, Jeff was the trimmer, they were so nice, polite and very professional! They all worked together and cleaned everything, even the roof! Jeff told me that the logs in the front would be picked up within 48 hours, they were picked up in 2 hours, they told me that the stump would be ground within 72 hours it was done the NEXT day!!! I'm just blown away. Had Sun State Trees come out on Friday afternoon and give me an estimate. They were attentive and the price was competitive. During the visit, Travis told me they could take care of the tree on Tuesday, I told them I'd get back to him. Called him on Monday morning, was told that he couldn't take care of it now until the following Tuesday. When I told him that wouldn't work for what I need, he then said, he could probably squeeze me in on Friday. I told him I'd have to call him back... His response: "What's two days man? You don't call me back for a week and when I tell you I can't do it on Tuesday, you're going to hang up on me?" Then he proceeded to call me "a DICKHEAD" before hanging up himself. First of all, it didn't take me a week to get back to him. I just got the estimate from him on Friday afternoon and called him first thing on Monday morning. If he's not available on Tuesday, that's fine, I'll just find someone who is. Doesn't warrant name calling or the level of frustration he showed on the phone. Hell, I've got more time in writing this review than he has on earning my business. This Travis guy is a piece of work. He spent most of his time here selling me on his amateur 'pool design' skills. On September 9, 2017, two days before hurricane Irma, A Sun State Trees removed a tree from my property at a very high price. However, I feared that the tree would fall onto my house during the storm and cause damage, so I paid. Then, during the tree removal process, the first piece cut off the top of the tree was REALLY BIG and when it came down, it swung around and actually HIT MY ROOF, making a hole in it!!! Thankfully it was not over an interior room but over the covered porch.(By the way, the irony wasn't lost on me that this is exactly what I was trying to avoid -- a hole in the roof from the hurricane -- but instead I GOT a hole in the roof from the tree removal company.) They were very apologetic, and patched up the top side of the hole with some extra shingles I had. Because the damage wasn't putting me at risk inside the house, and since I knew they would have a lot of hurricane stuff to deal with after the storm passed, we agreed that I would be in touch after the hurricane passed, and that we would deal with the repairs then. I gave them ample time, as in months, and let's fast forward to the new year ... I finally contact them again January 3, 2018. I spoke with an employee, Greg, who was shocked, apologetic, and assured me that he would have a repair team out to my house the following week to repair it. Since it was over the porch and not the interior of the house, I didn't even need to be there for them to repair it. Wonderful! Except they never showed up. A few more weeks passed, and I called again, this time speaking to another employee, Rose. She was very gracious, and assured me she would pass along my message to the owner, Randy. Unfortunately, I never heard from Randy, so I called AGAIN a week later, spoke with Rose, AGAIN, and she was even more apologetic this time, assuring me AGAIN that she would pass along the message to the owner. That was two days ago. I still haven't heard anything, and now it's Friday and I don't anticipate getting a call over the weekend. I am clearly being ignored, and this is NOT the way a professional company treats its customers, especially those who paid a large chunk of cash, literally. So basically at this point, here's where I am with Sun State Trees: 1) they overcharged me for the tree removal service because of the impending hurricane (you know, supply and demand and all that) 2) they damaged my property and put a hole in my roof 3) they lied to me, saying they'd send someone out to repair, but didn't 4) they ignored my repeated calls to have them rectify their error. I'm calling Monday and if I don't have a reply by midweek, I will have to escalate this, which I don't want to do. I'm a yoga teacher and a nice person who believes in resolving things in the most peaceful way possible. All I want is for them to pay for me to have the damages repaired; at this point, I don't trust whomever they would send out to do the roof repair. I'd rather pay my trusted contractor who has done other work on the house, and have the tree company reimburse me for the cost of the repairs. We contracted this company to remove a tree and the stump, they came and removed the tree, got paid that same day for both services and never came back to remove the stump. After several phone calls, I found out that their small stump grinder that fits in my yard was broken and the employee informed that has been damaged for months meaning that they took the job knowing they will not going to be able to complete it. After so many frustrating phone calls with no results, I ended up paying another company to remove the stump. If you dare to use this company make sure they have everything they need to finish the job before you pay them, you will not get a refund and they will not return your phone calls. read more

I scheduled a landscaping appointment with them a week and a half in advance, I wasted half of my saturday waiting on them and then finally called and they said they had lost the paperwork for my appointment and would call me back. An hour later I called them to find out what was going on and they said they were still working on it, I asked if I should take my needs to another competitor and they said they would call me back. I had an oak tree removed and grinded from the front on my house. It has been a horrible experience. The tree was removed but I had to call a number of times to ask when they were going to grind it. After three weeks it was they finally completing the grinding. However, they left all the mulch in my front yard which was supposed to be removed. They also took down my retention wall to do the job. After a number of calls and a number of their promises, almost 4 weeks later neither shavings have been removed for the wall put back up. In good faith I paid for the service up front - shame on me. BEWARE!!! A couple of years ago, I ordered a truckload of firewood. Because the wood was not seasoned, the men who delivered it (& stacked it in the back yard) gave me a special price of $75. I called for another delivery this year & was told the cost would be $120, delivered & stacked; but that it was all seasoned wood, ready o burn. I specifically asked if the wood would be transported by wheelbarrow to the wood shed & stacked like before & was again reassured that it would be. When the truck was on its way, I was told the truckload would be dumped in our driveway unless I paid another $20 for stacking. The lady on the phone informed me that there was no way anyone could have told me delivery & stacking cost $120, when $140 was the price. The wood was stacked neatly, but had a terrible smell! I worked for hours, using several loads of kindling, newspapers, & firestarter logs to get a weak fire going. When I called to complain, I was told that no one in that company could have told me the wood was seasoned & that he (the owner) had never heard of someone unable to even start a fire. The second tree they did not finish cutting leafless branches. when I showed him what needed to be cut, he put the knife down and left the yard. The saw dust from grinding the stump ended in the pond and killed the fish with an oil slick on the water. They should have told me to cover the pond. This crew did a job next door and asked if they could park the vehicle that holds the bucket in my driveway (the space next door was tight). I asked how much space they needed and they said one vehicle. I obliged. I came home to my ENTIRE driveway filled with their trucks, chipper, etc. When they left I had 22 brand new OIL STAINS on a brand new circular drive, garbage left along the side of my house and sawdust throughout the landscaping. I CAN NOT believe the horrendous treatment I've received by this company. If I could give them a 0 I would. I signed a contract on 12/7/17 for them to remove 3 trees, trim back another, stump grind all three tree, then completely rake the entire back yard and haul the debris and stump grinding away. I explicitly explained that I had just been release from the hospital with a severe kidney infection as well as pneumonia. I CAN NOT do this work myself. As of my last phone call to their company and speaking with "Dee" on 12/19, she PROMISED me she would follow up on everything and get back with me. NOTHING. I called Kevin/the salesperson for the umpteenth time on 2/20/17, he PROMISED the job would be finished by end of business today. NOTHING. This is an absolutely HORRENDOUS way to run a business and has hindered my recovery process greatly. At first I thought they were great.....came out, gave me a great price. Removed my trees and trimmed, but the guys RAN off the property at 5 and left a mess. Then it took forever to get the stump grinder out and when he finally showed, he could only do one tree because he couldn't get his equipment in my backyard, he promised to come back the next week and never did. I called again, they got a stump grinder out and he left a huge mess and a mountain of sawdust (not mulch). I call them back to come and remove the mess at an additional charge, they didn't come out until I called and called.....bottom line, these people need to be micromanaged because their management doesn't do a good job and you should expect a huge cleanup job if you have them do work for you. i won't be using Sun State Trees again. It took them 5 days to cut down two trees....would do part of the job, then leave. Left logs on my new yard for 5 days, killing the grass. Broke 2 sprinklers, smashed (killed) mature shrub, left logs on landscape bed killing MANY plants. For 5 days they promised to be back the following day to finish. 10/10/14, Purchased appx. 350.00 of trees and scrubs, manager was very nice but never told us there was no return policy. Spoke to lady in office and she said there is no return policy and basically your out of your money if something happens to the plants/trees. They should of told us that before we purchased. I bought a tree that the manager said was sitting there for a year, when the they put it bye my truck some of the roots were pulled from the tree and now the leaves are already brown.
