In comparison to some other brands such as Aman, Four Seasons Maui felt below average given its price point. The resort itself felt small and a bit old. The service felt very below average and inconsistent. One employee would tell you the sun umbrellas at the pools near the bushes are not adjustable while literally 2 mins later another employee came and adjusted the sun umbrella next to me and also mine when I asked. When we went to the adult pool we were told by one employee that we needed to be on a waitlist. After 3 hours when we finally got notified that it was our turn and went back we noticed other guests just literally went and grabbed empty benches and staffs were just setting the benches up for them(no, they didn't even know there was a waitlist)... Our canoe experience at the last day of our stay got canceled due to high wind and the concierge never notified us etc. Many employees gave me the vibe that they don't really care. They just gave me fake smiles and robotic responses. Maybe Amond would take better care of us...if he is still alive... The view was very amazing. We even spotted whales many times.

My lady and I came here 25 years ago to celebrate our beginnings and returned to appreciate our quarter century with the 'Aloha Spirit'. In preparations for our festivities Sheree in Guest Services graciously cared for us - she is an extraordinary gift to visitors. Every moment on property continued the appreciation, Angel and Nilma's thoughtful care at the front desk, to the wait staff's attentiveness - Toby, Brant, Olivia, P.T.... at the Lehua Lounge and poolside and especially Braden at Morimoto. In addition to the magical ambience, you are treated like royalty. Complimentary snacks in the room are replenished daily, citrus infused water refills everywhere, Hawaii ice cream treats offered poolside, sunscreen dispensers at every pool. When you are looking for a chaise, they immediate put a chair cover on for you and bring multiple towels.... The culture of care (Hoʻokipa) begins with the Hawaiian culture and the exceptionally personable GM Richard Elliot along with Kodi a beverage manager with his "Andaz style" (personal service). Beautiful memories were created from dawn's light peeking into the grand Lawai'a Lounge to, chaises by the four descending pools, to complementary beach adventures - snorkeling, kayaking... to sunsets from our beloved poolside upper terrace table. Every dish was a delight, many 'the best we could remember'. Mahalo for creating a beautiful commemoration, may you ever feel the appreciation of your guests and colleagues.

Adequate ventilation and air conditioning, good assortment of cardio, weight machines, Smith machine, and free weights. Laundry room, including detergent and dryer sheets, are free to use. Three washers and three dryers available. There is a 1.5 mile ocean view path that connects the resorts, Shops at Wailea, and public beaches. Lots of people walking and running it. Lots of kids. There is an adults only pool in front of the spa, but it's not consistently heated and no ocean views. Free mineral sunblock at every towel station (SPF 30 and 50). We came after a big storm, and none of the water activities were available due to County brown water advisory. The rest of the resort fee activities were a nice add-on (e.g. smores at sunset, ukulele lessons, bingo, photography session). Cocktails were not great. Stick to the beer and wine. Breakfast buffet was good enough, but inconsistent and nothing exciting. Veggie fried rice was really good the first day, but lacked flavor the next day. Longans were a nice touch, but wasn't available every day (and no other specialty fruit replacement out of the ordinary selection). Ohana room (transition lounge) is available if you have a later flight and want to stay on property after checkout time of 11AM. Clean and has all the amenities needed to freshen up before a late flight. Includes a bathing suit spinner to dry it out for packing. All in all, they have everything you need for a Maui vacay.

Although the only other resorts I actually stayed at were Andaz and Wailea Beach Resort Marriott. Reason being that rooms are exceptional (all suites) and I highly recommend upgrading to ocean view if possible. They have prime real estate directly facing the sunset, making each night so memorable. For amenities, pools are more spread out and does not feel as claustrophobic compared to Four Seasons in my opinion. I'd choose Fairmont again for our next trip. Special shout out to the housekeeper going above and beyond who shapes our lei into a heart each time they tidy our place. This person deserves a raise/promotion. However, the overall experience was disappointing and stressful, especially given the circumstances of our trip. This was my children's first real vacation, and we were celebrating two birthdays (mine and my 8 year old daughter) which the hotel was aware of in advance. Unfortunately, there was no acknowledgment at all -- not even a small gesture like a cookie or note, which was surprising for a luxury family resort that promotes personalized guest experiences. We were traveling with three children (one on crutches) and a medically fragile senior with mobility limitations, yet staff did not provide meaningful assistance coordinating accessible airport transportation, forcing us to rely on Uber to make our flight home. The front desk only consistently made me aware of how expensive transportation costs were, as if I could not afford it! I was highly offended. Why would I vacation in Wailea if I can't afford to go to the airport? Why even bring that up? On our departure day, we requested a hospitality suite so our family could shower before a evening flight. Multiple staff members incorrectly told us no such option existed and suggested we use public outdoor beach showers where kids wash their feet off, which is not appropriate for children or an elderly disabled guest. Another staff member suggested that I purchase a spa pass for $75 per person to shower before our flight, but said the children could not shower there. Only after repeatedly asking multiple front desk employees, did Luz, my saving grace, who obviously has common sense, arranged our access to a hospitality suite at the last minute. I was charged $350 for the hospitality suite, but I appreciate her professionalism.

1 Star - Save Your Money and Sanity, Go Next Door to the Four Seasons…read moreWhere do I even begin with the Grand Wailea? This place has absolutely no business carrying the Waldorf Astoria name, and after staying here, I can confidently say it falls woefully short of every standard that brand is supposed to represent. Rude, Dismissive Staff (Especially by the Pools) The pool staff were some of the rudest hospitality workers I've ever encountered. Curt, condescending, and openly impatient with guests who dared to ask basic questions. There is no warmth, no service mindset, no sense that you--the paying guest--matter. For a resort charging premium pricing, the attitude from staff is genuinely shocking. Overcrowding Like You Wouldn't Believe The pool areas are wildly overcrowded. It feels less like a luxury resort and more like a packed public water park. Good luck finding a chair, walking a path without bumping into someone, or actually enjoying the pools you're paying a fortune to use. Towel Rationing at a "Luxury" Resort They actually limit towels. Let that sink in--you're paying Waldorf Astoria prices and being rationed pool towels like it's a budget motel. Absurd. Chairs Flipped So Fast You Can't Even Eat Breakfast If you leave your chair to grab breakfast, use the restroom, or do literally any activity the resort itself offers, expect to come back to find your spot has been given away. The turnover policy is so aggressive that enjoying the rest of the resort becomes impossible. You're essentially chained to a lounger if you want to keep one. Lost and Stolen Items Because Staff Removed Belongings This is the worst part. Leave your chair for more than an hour and staff will physically remove your items. We lost personal belongings because of this policy. Not misplaced--removed by staff and never recovered. At a Waldorf. Unbelievable. Hundreds of Dollars Just for a Beach Chair You read that right. They charge HUNDREDS of dollars for a beach chair. Which begs the obvious question: what exactly is the daily resort fee covering if not the most basic amenity at a beach resort? It's nickel-and-diming taken to a level I've never seen at any property at this price point. Cabanas Auctioned Off on a Secondary Market This might be the most outrageous part of the entire experience. Cabanas are essentially auctioned off on a secondary market. Some other guest bought the cabana a year earlier, and now existing guests of the resort have to pay THOUSANDS of dollars to that person just to use a cabana by the pool of the hotel they're already staying at. It's predatory, dystopian, and completely antithetical to the idea of luxury hospitality. Bottom Line This hotel is wildly overpriced and genuinely awful. It does not meet--nor even approach--the standards expected of a Waldorf Astoria property. The Waldorf name on this building is a disservice to the brand and a trap for unsuspecting guests who think they're booking a luxury experience. Never again. Walk next door to the Four Seasons. It is night and day across the board--service, atmosphere, value, every single category. Don't make the mistake we did.

There is a more…read moresignificant meaning behind the word and they have several books inside the hotel that gives a deeper dive into the history and other Relais & Châteaux in the world. Apparently it used to be a Japanese club called the Diamond, but was converted to a hotel after seeing the club die out. I booked this hotel for a variety of reasons. The biggest reason being that this is an adults only hotel. Upon doing my research of Maui, I figured that the south west side was probably going to be better for calmer waters and a more tranquil place for a relaxing vacation with my wife who is expecting. I am glad I chose Hotel Wailea rather than other hotels around the area including Grand Wailea or Four Seasons. Another reason is that I was able to book directly on their website and save some money on their insider rate (nonrefundable). I always try to book directly so that it benefits the hotel. It also benefits me because I was able to save 30% on the rate and got a few bonus perks. It was a little bit of a gamble due to the extreme weather that they had prior to coming, but luckily everything worked out and the weather was beautiful during my stay. Being a smaller hotel, I noticed more attention to detail and much better service than any other hotels that I have stayed at in the past. Upon coming to the hotel with my rental car, the valet service greeted us and took care of all our bags and showed us to the check in area. We were greeted with a flower lei for my wife and a kukui nut lei for me. The check in process took a few minutes to explain the layout of the hotel and details. We got a free valet parking since we stayed 5 days at the hotel and also got a $100 dining credit. I am glad we got the valet parking since I read that the parking spots can be tight and distant from everything. The valet took us to our stay with a golf cart loaded with our luggage. Upon entering our suite, there was a welcome gift including some chocolates and alcohol free champagne. The suite is filled with everything you need. They have a fridge stocked with soft drinks and sparkling water that is all complimentary. They also have bottles of water and you can request more. You are able to take beach chairs, umbrellas, parasol and towels to the beach. They have shuttle rides that can take you to nearby area up to a certain distance. They will also pick you up if you call them. The shower and bath had the best water pressure I've seen anywhere. The bathtub was huge and it actually filled relatively quickly. They have a TV in the bedroom and in the lounge area. The outdoor patio provided a really nice view towards the ocean, garden and sky. I stayed very close to the gym which was a huge plus. I was able to use it every morning and was the only one there every morning prior to sunrise. Working out pre-sunrise to sunrise in a open door setting was a great experience. They have some unique free weights that mimics a natural wood look. There is a row machine, a coupe of treadmills, elliptical and peloton for cardio. Other basic machines that uses a pulley and weight system are available. They have several yoga mats as well for any floor exercises. The pool area seemed busy during the day so I went after sunset mostly. The water is heated so it is very comfortable. There is a beautiful sunset view from the restaurant or from the birdcage. Depending on who you ask and what circumstances they have, it could vary what expensive is, but it is certainly not cheap or affordable here. You are paying for more than just a view here. The entire experience is curated for you. The staff here does a phenomenal job at keeping this property well-maintained and running. The restaurant and hotel has a premium price, but for a premium experience. There are other experiences here that you can book on their website or contacting the front desk. The front desk, housekeeping and valet were all so easy to contact with the phone in the room. We tried the in room dining once and although it took some time, it was a nice experience. Known for its tranquil adults-only atmosphere, attentive service, and luxurious amenities, Hotel Wailea offers a beautifully curated and premium Hawaiian getaway that is well worth the high price tag.

The resort has so much to offer -- beautiful suites, relaxing pool areas, and amazing dining options. You can really feel the attention to detail and care in every part of the experience. On top of that, Maui was experiencing torrential rain, flooding, and road closures. It could have easily turned into a very difficult trip. Then we met Adrian. He stepped in with urgency, empathy, and an incredible level of care. Not only did he find rooms for us on short notice, but he secured an oceanfront room as well as another room with perfect access to the pool. He was extremely accommodating and thoughtful in every detail, making sure both sides of our family were taken care of. What stood out most was how genuinely he cared. Adrian didn't just solve a problem, he completely changed the trajectory of our trip.
