They recommended one truck and two men to help and it was about $110 an hour plus a truck rental fee. I paid in cash so I got a small discount on the hourly rate. Rather reasonable compared to the other quotes I got. They were great at communicating with me leading up to my moving day as well as the day of. My movers, Dmitri and Bohdan, showed up right on time and were very professional, friendly, and efficient. They helped disassemble my furniture (and put it back together) and wrapped up everything as needed. I even had a giant plant that I wasn't sure how to move, but since I was only going a short distance, they wrapped it up and secured it in the truck to take over. At one point I even got a little emotional about saying goodbye to my old place and they were so sweet to me. I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again and can't thank them enough for the help. I feel like most people describe moving as a stressful, but for me it was a breeze.

They took apart my bed and put it back together, which I was very grateful for. They treated each item with care, wrapping them in plastic wrap or blankets. It was a great value for the money.

Formal Complaint - Poor Service, Property Damage, and Unprofessional Conduct…read more This company and its staff were disorganized, damaging, delayed, dismissive, condescending, unaccountable, careless, and overall highly unprofessional. I strongly advise proceeding with caution. My move took place on March 13th and was poorly executed from start to finish. A job estimated at three hours took well over six hours due to inefficiency and lack of coordination. During the move, my property was mishandled, resulting in a broken mirror and damage to the walls. Communication throughout the process was minimal and disorganized, with no clear updates or accountability. I was also charged an unexpected $500 overtime fee. While this fee was eventually refunded, the circumstances raise serious concerns. I was informed that a full refund would not be considered because, in the company's history, they "do not do that," and that as long as the move was completed, the quality of service was irrelevant. While interactions with Shayne (Branch Manager) were frustrating at times, he did make efforts within his authority and indicated that approval was needed from Ben (Regional Manager) to process a full refund. It was implied this would be approved, and Shayne appeared confident in that direction. However, once escalated, communication became inconsistent. Ben was unavailable, and this was later referenced as a reason for delays. When I spoke with Brian (CMO), the response did not reflect a thorough review. Instead, assumptions were made, the tone was patronizing, and there was no meaningful effort to resolve the concerns. At no point was there accountability, de-escalation, or empathy. This experience raises serious concerns regarding service quality, communication, and leadership accountability. Proceed with extreme caution.

We used Black Tie Moving to both pack and move. On Friday August 30th 2024 their 3-man packing team…read moreshowed up. We had already packed, labeled and separated about half our stuff. Some stuff was staying, some stuff was going to storage, and most was moving to our new house. We walked them through the house and explained what was going where. While the team initially seemed engaged, soon we became concerned by the lack of questions. After all, there was no way they had remembered everything just from our initial walkthrough. They hadn't. Mostly they just didn't care. It quickly became apparent that their only concern was putting stuff in boxes as quickly as possible. (Odd considering we were paying by the hour.) That might not be entirely fair. I do think that the team lead (I forget his name) seemed to do a much better job, than the other two. We only realized just how bad the packing was as we've been unpacking for the past week. One other point about their packing was that they didn't used tape guns. They simply bunch up the tape and pull till it breaks. I didn't think much of it at the time, but as we've been unpacking, we've had several boxes just drop open on the bottom because the tape wasn't well secured. The next day, Saturday, was moving day. This time it was a 4-man, 2-truck team. It was hard work, and the guys worked hard, but the complete lack of care for our stuff was mind blowing. We had a flat-pack desk that needed disassembled. I was assured by both the sales team and the packing team, that the movers would have no problem doing just that. In fact, I was told that their guys are "highly trained." When they started taking apart the desk, they didn't know what a cam-lock was. The ubiquitous fastener used in nearly all flat-back furniture. So, naturally, they destroyed my wife's desk. But, they never mentioned it. We only found out a couple days later when we went to put it back together at the new house. In transit, so many boxes were completely smashed because they piled them so high in the truck. Our storage unit is full of stuff that needs to be at the house and our house is full of stuff that needs to be moved to storage. I will say this. It was a lot of work and the guys worked their asses off. They just didn't care about the customer experience. In their defense, one of the guys said this was his 5th move in a row. He looked exhausted. It's hard to care when you're completely exhausted. I don't blame him for that, I blame management. None of the guys had back support belts, which really surprised me. And they didn't use moving straps. If you've ever seen movers with moving straps, it's a marvel. It makes the job so much easier and safer and quicker. Ultimately, the only "black tie" aspect of the entire service (packing and moving) was the price. It wasn't cheap. We were in a hurry, and I allowed myself to be taken in by the slick marketing. I will never use this company again.

The scheduling process with Black Tie was simple and efficient. The staff who booked our move were…read morepolite, organized, and even called to confirm all the details, including verifying the addresses. Unfortunately, the actual moving experience did not match that level of professionalism. The movers were scheduled to arrive between 8-9 AM but didn't arrive until 9:15 AM, which wasn't a major issue. What was concerning was the overall pace and efficiency of the crew. We were moving from a two-bedroom flat, and when scheduling the move, we clearly communicated the larger items we had: two beds (full and queen), a dresser, a large safe, a couch, washer/dryer, a dog treadmill, two rolling toolboxes, and a few bookcases. Every other item was already boxed or bagged and placed in the garage for easy access. This move should have been straightforward. When I returned after unloading my own car at the new house, I was surprised to find one mover in the truck doing all the work while the second mover mostly stood by. Items were being moved one at a time, and the overall pace was extremely slow. Having used two different moving companies in the last few years, I know what efficient movers look like--and this was not it. With previous companies, the crews hustled and clearly earned their pay. In contrast, these movers appeared to be intentionally stretching time, knowing they were paid hourly. After several hours, they finally left for the new house. My husband left the old apartment about 15 minutes after the movers, yet he still arrived at the new house before they did. In fact, he was already there for about 15 minutes when they called to say they were lost, adding even more unnecessary time to the move. Unloading wasn't any better. To try to speed things up, we had them place almost everything in the garage except for the washer/dryer and a few large pieces. Yet the same slow, one-box-at-a-time pattern continued. I even helped carry boxes into the garage just to try to keep things moving. Interestingly, once they hit the scheduled eight-hour mark, the pace suddenly changed--boxes were being loaded onto a dolly four or five at a time. That quick, efficient speed is what we expected from the beginning, not only after the clock ran out. They finished around 4:35 PM but, because they bill in 15-minute increments, we were charged until 4:45 PM. At that point, we just wanted the process over with. Before they were allowed to leave, the billing company called to take payment. Overall, this was the worst moving experience we've had. The movers themselves were polite, but the work ethic and efficiency were extremely disappointing. Given that we had everything ready to go--boxes staged in the garage at the old home and placed in the garage at the new one--I can only imagine how much longer it would have taken had we needed items placed in specific rooms as we've done with other companies. We will not be using Black Tie Moving again.
