    Birria Ramen

Finally got the chance to try this place. Went with the birria ramen; don't think I would choose it again. The broth was salty and lukewarm and the ramen was prepackaged.

Absolutely stellar. Shotgun review: - $2 street tacos on Taco Tuesday - Street parking & other lot parking nearby - Diverse menu with plenty of vegan, vegetarian, & gluten-free options - Order at the counter, staff brings food out to you - Cute indoor & outdoor seating - Wonderfully seasoned & well-balanced food - Grilled plantain (with arugula, candied pepitas, queso fresco, & agave lime dressing) was to die for The neon-sign-fake-plant-wall epidemic rages on, but the food at A Mano Taco Shop stands for itself. No masquerading here. The staff deserves a major shout out for handling our party of 20+ with efficiency & ease. No sacrifice in quality whatsoever. We will definitely be back. Thank you!

This was a very cute lil taco shop where I caught up with a friend. You order at the counter and then sit at any table you want. There were plenty of upstairs seating with views of the outside. The tacos came out pretty small and bite size, but full of flavor. I got two tacos and the grilled plantains and was pretty satisfied after. Overall, I think this is a cute street food concept but nothing really blew me out the park to come back again.

Solid tacos, properly seasoned and good sized portions for the price. A very good taco shop. Back on the hunt for some good taco places. This one came on our radar as a solid place with some good eats, so we made the trek to try this place out. Getting to this location is a bit of a trek. There is street parking, but there's not a lot of spaces. There is a few parking spots in a lot right next door, but I don't know how many spots are available for this place. Going in, there's a couple seats for doordashers and a simple register. The cashier was kind and quick to answer questions. Being avid street taco people, we got one of each along with an order of their fish tacos. I also tacked on their elote and churros, because if we're getting some tacos we might as well get a good sampling. Food gets packaged up quickly and we are in-and-out in about 15 minutes. Not bad. While we waited, I went upstairs to scope out the main dining area. it's cozy, not a lot of covers but enough space to give yourself room to breathe. I took a quick pic and headed back downstairs to wait for our to-go order. Got to our destination, cracked open some packages, took some pics, then dug in. The elote corn was very solid. Creamy, salty, cheesy, and the corn was juicy and tender. Could've used a little spice, but still a very solid bite. The street tacos were very good as well. They seasoned their meats, almost to the cusp of being overseasoned on the pork carnitas. with a decent amount of veggies and properly seasoned meats, I was actually fine with there being no real sauce to help carry the tacos. the only thing about the street tacos was the shell was a little dense and a tad too thick. lead to a tougher bite than expected. For the fish tacos, the portion was fairly large. they took a pretty decent sized filet of cod and battered that up. threw it in the fryer and dressed it in an avocado aoli. I liked the thickness and softness of the tortilla they used, I liked the flavor, the batter was not too heavy and the fish was cooked to perfection. That was a very good fish taco. The churros were good, but by the time we got to them we were so full we couldn't really enjoy them. the chocolate sauce was good, a little bitter but the sugar from the churro really helped balance it out. Overall, a very good taco place. If you have a chance to hunt this place down then please do. It's not the best tacos I ever had, but it's the strongest around that area for sure

This is a cool local spot in town with lots of tasty options! The Burria tacos are delicious and definitely my favorite, and the fries are good too. The owner was cool to chat with and encouraged us to check out the seating upstairs. There's also seating outdoors when the weather allows for it. Definitely will be back for more !

Today's lunch was A Mano Taco Shop. My lunch partner and I started by splitting orders of grilled plantains and street corn. Grilled plantains was easy to split as it was two slices of plantain with an even distribution of toppings. Very enjoyable starter. The toppings on the street corn were excellent, but the corn was overcooked. Our mains were the Quesa Birria Tacos and Crispy Fish Tacos. The Birria tacos had well balanced flavors especially when the pickled onions were added to the tacos then dipped in the consommé broth. The fish in the Crispy Fish Tacos was definitely crispy. Each bite had a delightful crunch and didn't have an overly oiled/greasy taste. The toppings tied in with the crispy fish and didn't make the fish soggy. The taco shells were not like any shells I've ever had. They were soft, felt delicate, and were a light complement for the ingredients placed inside. Well done Will definitely visit again. A Mano Taco has dining upstairs and a single table in the lobby. Takeout is available.

This place blew me away. The staff was overly friendly and helpful when making suggestions for not only their menu but what to do in the surrounding area. The food was fresh and so well flavored and the margarita was one of the best I've had. Plantains are a MUST have and the street taco was so flavorful. The atmosphere was clean and hip and everyone was so friendly. Definitely a must have!

Friendly service at the counter, took the food to go. Next time will stay at the outdoor seating which is perfect in good weather. A good atmosphere inside, very modern and updated inside, while the outside looks like a nice home. We got 3 street tacos, one of each (carne asada, al pastor, and carnitas), quasa birria tacos and the plantains. All the food was very delicious and better than most of the tacos you'd get at other places that say they have tacos. Definitely recommend the Birria which comes with a big bowl of sauce to dip in which you'll love, The only thing that could've been better are the plantains, they we're still almost completely solid. All the pumpkin seeds and extra stuff on stuff made it watery and less about the plantain and more like a salad. I for sure plan on going back when the weather is nicer and get some drinks there.

Tried A Mano for the first time tonight. The food was all fantastic, the birria tacos were the best I've ever had! Our favorite on the whole menu was the chicken tinga tacos. Highly recommend this place :)

We wanted to make a trip out to UConn dairy bar tonight so we wanted to find a localish spot to patron. A Mano DID NOT disappoint. Not sure where the recent negative review came from but we definitely don't agree! We had the elote corn cup, the fish tacos, quesa birria tacos, an el pastor taco, and a chicken and chorizo taco. Everything was SO good! I've been dying to try quesa birria somewhere and this did not disappoint. So flavorful, piping hot, and wonderful. The two gentleman working were fabulous. We had our baby in a stroller they offered us to park our stroller downstairs so we could go upstairs and enjoy their dining room which was nicely decorated and had great music playing. They brought our food and drinks right up to us. We also had the frozen tequila sunrise drinks which were strong and delicious! The recent review that they were out of guacamole was true but it said right on their menu it was sold out (and we also don't eat guacamole so we didn't care). VERY happy with our choice for dinner and will definitely return and recommend. I hope with college out for summer this business still does well because it deserves it. It is right by ECSU. Also they do have some outdoor seating for those who want that!

Tacos La Rosa in Willimantic has been on my Try List for years. So long -- I don't remember how…read moremany years. A while ago, I had seen TLR listed as a best taco in CT contender on one or more internet and/or media lists. An interesting thing happened in all those years. More and more authentic taquerias started opening in CT. Also, Willimantic itself became a known hot spot for tacos and Mexican food in general. So much so, that people would say "I have a taco spot for you in Willimantic." I was ready for them to say Tacos La Rosa, and sometimes, it would be a different place. I recently started a deep dive on the Willimantic taco scene. I'm not finished yet, but I can say the following based upon my extensive taqueria visits across CT in the past few years. Tacos La Rosa, makes a traditional style taco, and TLR is in the top tier of CT authentic taquerias. As you stand in the TLR parking lot, you can see the buildings of Eastern Connecticut State University. Inside, if you took all of the Mexican decor away, the restaurant sort of looks like an old school pizza joint. There's a black and white checkered floor. Brick walls. Open kitchen. Solid tan tables that are bolted to the floor or wall, and red benches snuggly positioned on both sides. I ordered three tacos at the Counter. Pastor. Bistec. And Chorizo con jalapeno. The person who helped me spoke very good English, but I'm not sure that we perfectly understood each other. He asked me if I wanted everything on the tacos. I wasn't sure what that meant, but I have a rule, that if a place asks me if I want everything, I say yes because I assume that's how they intend it. So the tacos each came with avocado, lettuce, queso fresco, tomato, cilantro and onion. Red salsa, lime and green salsa came on the side. Each taco had a substantial house made corn tortilla that held its structure despite all the filling. The tortilla was a cut or two above average. The pastor and the chorizo were about as good as you'll find in CT. The Bistec was pretty good, but didn't stand out. The chorizo had a sliced or chopped sort of texture rather than the crumbled chorizo you sometimes see. It was flavorful and manageably spicy. The pastor consisted of tender, saucy-red pork chunks. They tasted great. There were no pineapple chunks like you often get. I'm not sure that the toppings brought anything to the pastor, but they worked nicely for the chorizo and Bistec. The salsas were authentic and spicy. Throughout my time in Willimantic, I observed a robust Mexican population that was supporting these authentic Mexican restaurants. This was definitely the case at Tacos La Rosa. I'm glad I finally made it to Tacos La Rosa and I'm happy to see that their outstanding reputation is deserved. 4.5 Stars

They had snacks to buy at the register too. We all sat down for lunch and they were quick to attend. Rough prices: the birria tacos (4 tacos) were about $18. The other tacos ranged from $4.50-5.50/taco. Honestly was not bad of a price considering how much protein was stacked into them. Two others at the table had gotten burritos with mushrooms instead of meat, and those burritos were comically huge in size. I think the prices are definitely worth the size and quality of the food! The tacos were absolutely delicious! The birria meat was not dry without the consommé! They were very generous with how much filling it got. The carne taco was much better than the chicken one but both were very very good. Nothing in the meal was dry or felt like it's been sitting out for a while. The food is definitely made-to-order! No one at the table had any complaints, only compliments! Hopefully they get much more foot traffic; for lunch time it was not super busy, just a small family and a singular customer. I would recommend this place, very homey feeling too!

TC is located in the heart of the main drag in Willimantic. It's not fancy. It's part market. Part takeout. And there's functional seating for maybe up to about 15 people. But I wouldn't call it comfortable. After looking at the menu and what was going on at some of the tables, I ordered a pastor taco, a shredded lamb taco and a Mango Guava Agua Fresca for takeout. The tacos were traditional in that the meats were served with cilantro, onions, a lime, red salsa and green salsa on corn tortillas. The pastor was very tasty and tender. The serving size of the pastor was substantial. The lamb had good shredded texture and moisture. Almost like lamb carnitas. It needed more salt though. Both salsas were spicy, but good. I don't know if the the tortillas were made in house because they were too busy to ask. They seemed like they probably were though. I ordered the Mango Guava Agua Fresca after seeing it on so many tables. There were so many apparently knowledgeable Mexican diners there, I figured they knew something I didn't know. They did. It was delicious and had a substantially to it. If you need a fancier place to eat and don't live in the area for takeout, TC might not be your first choice. I don't need a fancy place. And I loved it. 4.5 Stars

Did ask for chips and salsa, not available. Only have chips and guacamole. Instead they did bring me chips with two different sauces they put on the food. One a little spicy and the other having more intense heat. Both were good and coated the chips once dipped. The chips, however, are very hard triangles clearly made in house. Appear to be made from soft tortillas which make them thicker than what you would expect a chip to be. As I'd never been there I decided to try a couple of things. I ordered the tacos, careful with the pricing here. The menu says 4 tacos and the price shown is $3.75, that's for one. Get the four and it's $15. Think the menu needs to be revised! I also ordered the burrito which came with a pile of lettuce topped with sliced tomatoes. The burrito arrived first and was huge. A very large, probably the largest wrap I've seen held a good amount of rice and shredded beef but where were the beans? Couldn't find a bean in the mix. The shell itself was folded over so much that I finally cut the burrito open and are the contents. The beef was okay, just very dry and having the refried beans would have helped. The tacos arrived with beef and onions in a very soft taco shell. Menu says it comes with radishes and I guess those were mixed in with the onions but I couldn't taste them. Again the meat, same as the burrito, was very dry and it was good I had sauce left over from the chips to put on top of it. I gave up on eating the taco shell and just ate the beef and onions. With the shell it really made the whole meal too dry. Did end up having two cokes to get everything down. They offer both fine in and takeout and the place does look more like a takeout place. Seating consists of a few tables and a number of booths. They do have a bar and serve liquor. Soft drinks appear to be in cans and bottles. There is also a pool table in the front of the restaurant, didn't see pool sticks or balls so don't know if it's used at all. I would guess it is with the equipment kept elsewhere. I was really looking forward to trying out this place as it's local and family owned but I'm not sure I'll be going back anytime soon.

There's a lot of nostalgia tied to this place, but the experience today feels like a shadow of what it used to be. The quality has dropped drastically. Service was, frankly, atrocious--slow, disengaged, and bordering on indifferent. The beer selection is still decent, but it doesn't matter much when every pour arrives tasting off. Whether it's bad kegs or hot glasses, the result is the same: lukewarm, skunky beer that's hard to enjoy. Food was another disappointment. Every item came out cold, and the flavors were on par with grade‑D fast food--bland, lifeless, and nowhere near the standard this place once had. Giving three stars feels generous, but it's a nod to the legacy Willibrew built over the decades. I truly hope they find their footing again, because right now, the nostalgia is doing all the heavy lifting. Ummmmm cheers I guess
