    Huarache
    Michael J.

Well, they're not $6.90 anymore; try $24.99 for a small and $26.99 for a large. The rice is made with chicken stock, so I shouldn't even be eating it as a vegetarian. You have to steel yourself for occasionally surly or disinterested service. (And other times delightful and friendly.) But I will keep putting up with anything from Tacos La Rosa to get their take on a huarache. This is a food obsession for me. Whenever I bring my New York friends out for a weekend in the country, their huaraches are the only food (besides New Haven pizza) that transcends serviceable and gets to unmissable. This dish is a treasure. I brought one friend here and he made me take him back three days in a row.

So yummy! Came tonight with a group. The food came out pretty quickly. I ordered a chicken burrito. It was so reasonably priced and DELICIOUS. Loved the pickled jalapeños mixed in, and the spicy green Chile sauce on the side. Everyone in my group loved their food. I liked that it was an order up counter and it had parking in the front. Will definitely be back.

I love this place and the food. I'm not the bigget fan of their authentic "take" on rice and beans, seeing as how they're clearly a Hispanic family and I'm not even a tiny bit... but, if I could freeze their huaraches and they still be good the next couple days, I would buy a weeks supply. The sauces are pretty great too. Authentic Mexican soda. Ay caramba (insert Hispanic dancing guy here). Service is cool, not too hot not too cold. You dont come here for the ambiance, unless you get what these small hole in the wall spots are about. It's not Michelin, but it nails the Mexican spot pretty well. Try it out. Steak huarache, get the medium for your first go, a pride of lions couldn't finish the large. I'll add a better huarache pic, think my belly overrode my camera finger and I got a panoramic rendering of the huarache, moments before burying my face into it.

We visited for a quick lunch. It was quite expensive for what it was. Food was ok, but lacking flavor. Service was efficient, but not at all friendly. We got an order of flautas and a taco plate with bistec, chicken & Al pastor. We have had the same experience twice now, so we probably won't return.

Bistec encebollado on the big board said 19.99, final price 21.99 tacos said 14.49 final price 16.49. 20 oz soda $4

Came here on a Friday around 3pm. Place was empty. I really thought it was 3pm. Pros- bistec encebollado, meat on this was cooked good and had good flavor. Beans tasted a bit old and rice as well. Quesadilla looked good. I didn't eat it, my nephew did. It did look good and full of cheese. CONS- steak burrito was 80% salad, 10% refried beans, 10% meat.. I dont understand what happened. We had 2 of them and they were identical. see pictures. Prices were different from advertised. I didn't mind playing the advertised price but some were a whole $2 more and no mention of it. Poland spring and can sodas $2.39 each and 20 oz soda bottle $4. I asked them about the pricing and they said "yes it's 2 more". I'll forever be confused about the burrito because I've had so many burritos in my life and even Taco Bell makes a better one. And I hate taco bell... so that's sad.

The best sauce, your in for a treat if you love spicy. Home style vibes inside, very nice staff, and the food was fast. I got the chicken burrito, and it was shredded chicken. They add on red, green, and yellow sauce and even give out more. I got all the toppings. One of the best taco place in Connecticut.

Do they allow you to remove a topping like tomatoes or onions?

I wouldn't count on it based on my experience there.

They had snacks to buy at the register too. We all sat down for lunch and they were quick to attend. Rough prices: the birria tacos (4 tacos) were about $18. The other tacos ranged from $4.50-5.50/taco. Honestly was not bad of a price considering how much protein was stacked into them. Two others at the table had gotten burritos with mushrooms instead of meat, and those burritos were comically huge in size. I think the prices are definitely worth the size and quality of the food! The tacos were absolutely delicious! The birria meat was not dry without the consommé! They were very generous with how much filling it got. The carne taco was much better than the chicken one but both were very very good. Nothing in the meal was dry or felt like it's been sitting out for a while. The food is definitely made-to-order! No one at the table had any complaints, only compliments! Hopefully they get much more foot traffic; for lunch time it was not super busy, just a small family and a singular customer. I would recommend this place, very homey feeling too!

TC is located in the heart of the main drag in Willimantic. It's not fancy. It's part market. Part takeout. And there's functional seating for maybe up to about 15 people. But I wouldn't call it comfortable. After looking at the menu and what was going on at some of the tables, I ordered a pastor taco, a shredded lamb taco and a Mango Guava Agua Fresca for takeout. The tacos were traditional in that the meats were served with cilantro, onions, a lime, red salsa and green salsa on corn tortillas. The pastor was very tasty and tender. The serving size of the pastor was substantial. The lamb had good shredded texture and moisture. Almost like lamb carnitas. It needed more salt though. Both salsas were spicy, but good. I don't know if the the tortillas were made in house because they were too busy to ask. They seemed like they probably were though. I ordered the Mango Guava Agua Fresca after seeing it on so many tables. There were so many apparently knowledgeable Mexican diners there, I figured they knew something I didn't know. They did. It was delicious and had a substantially to it. If you need a fancier place to eat and don't live in the area for takeout, TC might not be your first choice. I don't need a fancy place. And I loved it. 4.5 Stars

Did ask for chips and salsa, not available. Only have chips and guacamole. Instead they did bring me chips with two different sauces they put on the food. One a little spicy and the other having more intense heat. Both were good and coated the chips once dipped. The chips, however, are very hard triangles clearly made in house. Appear to be made from soft tortillas which make them thicker than what you would expect a chip to be. As I'd never been there I decided to try a couple of things. I ordered the tacos, careful with the pricing here. The menu says 4 tacos and the price shown is $3.75, that's for one. Get the four and it's $15. Think the menu needs to be revised! I also ordered the burrito which came with a pile of lettuce topped with sliced tomatoes. The burrito arrived first and was huge. A very large, probably the largest wrap I've seen held a good amount of rice and shredded beef but where were the beans? Couldn't find a bean in the mix. The shell itself was folded over so much that I finally cut the burrito open and are the contents. The beef was okay, just very dry and having the refried beans would have helped. The tacos arrived with beef and onions in a very soft taco shell. Menu says it comes with radishes and I guess those were mixed in with the onions but I couldn't taste them. Again the meat, same as the burrito, was very dry and it was good I had sauce left over from the chips to put on top of it. I gave up on eating the taco shell and just ate the beef and onions. With the shell it really made the whole meal too dry. Did end up having two cokes to get everything down. They offer both fine in and takeout and the place does look more like a takeout place. Seating consists of a few tables and a number of booths. They do have a bar and serve liquor. Soft drinks appear to be in cans and bottles. There is also a pool table in the front of the restaurant, didn't see pool sticks or balls so don't know if it's used at all. I would guess it is with the equipment kept elsewhere. I was really looking forward to trying out this place as it's local and family owned but I'm not sure I'll be going back anytime soon.

I recently started a deep dive of highly rated taco places in Willimantic, and A Mano Taco Shop is…read moreone of those places. A Mano has a different POV than the other Willimantic places I've tried so far. While the other taquerias I've tried are more or less traditional (Pastor, Bistec, etc. with cilantro, onions and a few other classic toppings), A Mano has a more modern and creative take on tacos. In terms of the Willimantic spots, A Mano is the most modern in terms of art and the space, which includes outside tables on a wood deck out front, and at least one small inside table. I'm not sure if they had additional seating in a different room or upstairs, but that's possible given the building design. I suspect they have a robust takeout business as well. I ordered a Pastor Taco, and a Sweet Potato Black Bean Taco. The corn tortillas were fresh made and very good. The tacos arrived with the small round tortillas mostly flat and side by side in a takeout container, and the toppings artfully displayed on top. The toppings were slightly different for each taco. The pastor taco had marinated pork, pineapple chunks, micro greens, and avocado based salsa. I ordered a Pastor taco at each Willimantic place. A Mano was the only one so far to feature pineapple chunks, which I really like for Pastor tacos. This sweetness was important for balancing the saltiness from the pastor. Without that sweetness, the flavors would have been out of balance. The pastor was tender. The avocado salsa was good. I like the use of microgreens for the color, shape and fresh flavor it brings. A definite way to distinguish your taco. I ordered the sweet potato black bean taco because I've never seen it on a menu and I was intrigued. I was expecting the sweet potatoes and black beans to be in pieces, but the presentation was actually puréed or at least stewed to a smooth texture. This taco was topped with the same micro greens and avocado salsa, but it had pickled red onions. This taco was well executed and looked great, but if I had known it was going to be puréed, I probably would have gone a different direction just based on personal preference. I like that A Mano has different toppings for different tacos. In addition to the above toppings, I noticed corn, cilantro, slaw, mango and more as different toppings on certain tacos. A Mano's menu features other cool things like Birria Ramen, Street Corn, loaded fries, churros, flan. It's definitely the type of menu you'd like to explore. Service was very friendly. Both service and the atmosphere are a factor in my 4.5 Star rating, which rounds up to 5 Stars. If I was just rating the tacos, the score would be 4.25 Stars.
