I went in it only takes coins or Dexter app I had to get money from the bank, then their machines won't accept 20's anymore so I had to run around to get change , and I noticed when slowly putting in coins 25c to 50c wouldn't be accounted for and you'd have to add more.. not cool. Now this is a me challenge because I downloaded the dexterapp didn't realize it had to be activated by a link sent to you nothin on the app says this nothing in scrawled writing as there are plenty of poorly hand written notes everywhere. A Laundromat is not perfect but it does many things well. Three large tables for folding and at least three baskets for handling laundry. The owner mops the floors daily, which I really like as sometimes an item can be dropped on the floor when transferring clothes from machines to dryers. A range of washing machines: single, double, triple and larger. Prices are what you would expect and out of order machines don't stay out of order for long. They have the laundry app and some people complain about them. Well, what would you expect? It's software! I wisely avoid them. Change machines in my experience have been reliable. The downsides: you won't always get an attendant if something goes wrong and can be unresponsive as to things like water leaks on the floor. This is a family enterprise and you'll end up dealing with different personalities (they're dysfunctional, whose is not?!). The son is lazy, the older female is a bitch as I've read here online, but the male owner is nice, wants you to have a good experience, and a younger female is friendly and nice. It's a mixed bag at A Laundromat. About 2024 the owner bought all new machines and painted the joint, and new vending machines. It seems you take your chances if you decide to do your laundry late at night according to some reviewers here. It seems there's been a change of ownership a couple of times since I moved here in 2019, so a reason for one-star reviews. Anyway you could do worse than A Laundromat. As some have written plenty of shops, cafe to go to while clothes are washing, drying. I myself go to CVS to pick up prescriptions, use coupons to get a deal. Overall I give A Laundromat a B-. My husband had a horrible experience today we usually have had no issues but the owners and workers really made the situation worse. They have old machines that have constant issues and today as we were washing two of the machines were not working after informing the workers the thought we were lying for what ever reason and did only refunded $1 we tried to wash again and the load did not wash which resulted in soap all over our clothes and again no refund was provided after arguing and explaining to the workers we grabbed our wet clothes and left as they were clearly not trying to help us there customer. We are hispanic and definitely did not feel welcome and felt as this was also the reason for the bad customer service. read more

This place looks pretty grungy, has no one onsite that is readily available. But more importantly this place is ripping their customers off. The washers range from $5 for a small load to $8 for a large load. Because I didn't expect that and didn't bring enough quarters, I signed up for their app to pay for loads. I was at this laundromat on about June 4 of 2024 and I was in there pretty late because I had a very large load of laundry and I was coming from work so I had started pretty late. Anyway, I was in a rush and I was aware that they were closing at 11. I was trying to get everything done by that time, but my load was still in the dryer by the time it hit 11 o'clock. I was ready to take my clothes and, dry them elsewhere if the owner was to kick me out, I had no problem with that. I was waiting for somebody to tell me to leave but nobody came for about another 40 minutes. So like any other person would do I just waited till my laundry was done at the dryer and luckily enough as soon as the people who either own the place or work here, I'm not quite sure, walked in my load was done. The timer had literally gone off as they walked in. So all that was left to do was literally just take my clothes out of the dryer put it in my laundry basket and walk out. It was a man and a woman that came in, and as soon as I saw the man I apologize for having been there past 11 o'clock and he's very nicely told me no worries. It's OK. So now I'm trying to get my clothes out of the dryer, and the woman is speaking to the man in Spanish thinking I wouldn't understand and she started off just complaining about how late it was and then she proceeded to talk about how it isn't fair that she hast to wait because I haven't finished or left and she goes on and on about this for a little while and then she literally calls me a "pendeja" which is Spanish for I'm assuming a 304. Now I understand that she might be tired and frustrated but, 1- I was literally leaving, 2- They got here 40 minutes late, I did not make them stay here an extra 40 minutes, and 3- no matter what the situation I don't think calling a customer a 304 is ever appropriate. It doesn't matter how tired you are how frustrated you are or how upset you are with me because this was unfair to you, all you had to do is tell me to leave-- that very moment the moment you saw me, you should've told me get out. instead of standing there and waiting for me willingly-- and insulting me using one of the most common languages in the Bay Area thinking I'm not going to understand. Calling a customer that basically pays your bills a 304 is unbelievable, especially because she has no idea who I am. so I wouldn't recommend this laundromat to anyone. Less one star only because it takes about 2.50 to dry a towel it seems. Other than that, GREAT washers-all newly repaired and operable. Pro tip. Come on Sundays at 6:45am. Park in the few spots in front. Get a Peets and wait for it to open. Otherwise you will be hauling your baskets from the community parking spot behind CVS or spots far away. Why Sunday? Glad I took a chance on this place despite the negative reviews. Very clean, owner Chuck is super friendly and helpful. Reasonable prices. Great hours 7am to 11pm, last wash at 10pm. Place has many customers, busy on the weekends. Great location, can walk to neighboring stores/cafe while your clothes wash. It was 9pm. I checked Yelp to confirm that business was still open and to my relief it was open until 11pm. So I took all my large blankets for a late night washing to this laundromat only to find the attendant cleaning up and telling me I could not use the facility as she was getting ready to close. I pointed to the two signs in the wall that read: "Last Wash 10:00pm" and "CLOSED at 11:00". Then with hesitation the attendant tells me to go down a few blocks to another laundromat that is open for 24 hours. That was very disappointing. I understand the attendant probably wanted to wrap up for the day but then don't advertise as being open past 9pm only to inconvenience the patrons. So a generous 1 star for this experience. My advice: come earlier in the day if you want to use this facility; unreliable later in the evening hours even though it's during operating business hours. read more

Aw darn, I was excited to give my local laundromat some business and get my clothes nice and clean. The main issue is that there is no attendant and no way to get help. During my very first visit here I had three 3x loads ready to go ($5 each). I started the first two just fine and then as I put quarters in the 3rd machine they stopped making the sound that let me know they were dropping in, and the numbers monitor did not register the next three quarters I put in. A bummer as I was tight on cash. I tried to call the number and I left a message and I knocked on the door insistently a few times but no one came to help and give me my $3 back. If I had wanted to rally I could have gotten some more cash and washed the final load, but I felt stung by the lack of care this business showed for my custom and I took my last load elsewhere. read more

A LAUNDROMAT has GREATLY improved since my 2019 rating! It is now clean. One can breathe easily. The owner shared with me that it was discovered when removing old driers that some of them were NOT connected to the outside by previous owner causing the dust issue. Many of the machines have been replaced with new ones and ALL now run well. There are enough tables to fold clothes, including a standing table for those who prefer that option. There are wheeled carts to move the laundry from the washers to the driers, as well as chairs to sit in while waiting ... or you can go out to a nearby coffee shop or cafe to eat/drink or even run errands at nearby shops. There is a quarter machine for those who use quarters, but one doesn't have to; one can download the "dexter app" and pay with a credit card. Along with the new machines, the place has been freshly painted. The owner is friendly, often accessible, and interested in making his laundromat customer friendly. A great laundromat in a great neighborhood. Makes doing laundry an enjoyable outing! read more

Excellent, clean nearby laundromat. I like the different size selections for washers and dryers depending on load sizes. The laundromat wasn't busy and I was able to do 4 loads of laundry at once. It was nice getting everything done very quickly. I washed my large bed comforter which was a nice surprise given the larger washers and dryer sizes that are available. There is a change machine to get coins or one can use the laundromat app for laundry payment. I will definitely return again! read more

Too bad this is the only laundromat in the Piedmont Ave. neighborhood. From time to time, I have to come here to wash the sheets, duvets, mattress pads or 3 week worth of laundry. The reason I go to a laundromat is to use the oversize washer, and it's frustrating that there are only 2 of them at this place and I have had to wait to use them. There are only 2 tables and 3 carts, and the place is pretty small. On weekends, it can get pretty packed in here. It's a good thing that you can put clothes in the washer, take a stroll on the avenue, start the dryer and come back to finish up. If you decide to leave the laundromat while you do laundry, please be considerate and return on time. (especially if you've got stuff in the oversize washer). It gets brutally hot when the weather is warm. For now, this laundromat will have to do for me. However, if an enterprising person opened up a new laundromat that's like Brainwash in SF with relatively easy parking, I'm totally there. Please, someone with money, open a laundromat in Oakland/Emeryville/Berkeley, where I can drive to, eat, drink, hang out, and get my work done. I swear I will spend a lot of money. read more

The joint is affordable and neighborhood friendly. This is my go-to spot. However, on my most recent visit the janitorial staff went the extra mile. I accidentally left a full load in the dryer on a Wednesday evening. When I realized my mistake, the laundromat was closed. I returned on Thursday a.m. and my clothes were gone. Apparently, members of the staff arbitrarily take your laundry out of the driers you paid for and move them to other machines, where they don't dry at all. In the past, on a few separate incidents, I found loads of dry laundry in places other than where I had left them, and ended up with mystery garments as a result. While I knew something had been up, the specific process was revealed today after finding someone else's laundry in my drier. The staff confirmed that they moved it to another drier and I discovered it still half-wet, costing me more money and an extra half hour. Seriously? This is completely unacceptable and shady. I happen to know the owners and the people who tend to "A Laundromat", they clean it every night! And for some reason people not only bring their dirty clothes but their dirty habits as well, it seems like people have NO HOME TRAINING! If it is ever dirty it is due to the people who come to wash, not for the lack or service! If you have any complaints the owner is usually in her office in the back of the Laundromat. I can't stand my neighborhood laundromat! Since the new owners took over a year or so ago, prices have gone up overall at least twice. They have put in a few new machines, (5?) but there have been no other upgrades beyond that. The machines often smell like mildew and they often malfunction in subtle ways (for example, we have discovered in a few occasions that our clothes got only partially wet--and we don't overload). Frequently there are 1-3 washers/dryers out of service. There are often some serious creepers in there too -- not necessarily clientele so much as folks just hanging out. The night attendant is lovely -- she gets a star for being helpful. Anyway, this place makes me pine for the day I will have my own washer/dryer. I am stuck with it for now :/. read more

The interior is dingy and a majority of the machines could use some elbow grease to get them into sparkling condition. The ambiance is a bit 70s and maybe some of the machines are too. However every machine that I used worked. 2 bucks for a wash. 25 cents for 10 minutes in the dryer.. Not too bad. The laundromat doesn't have the greatest facilities, but they're functional. These are really poor business owners bordering being crooks. Their old large machines are $7.50 per load and they have way reduced the machines water level. I had a huge load of Whites to wash & I had put off the laundry for a few weeks & they realky needed to be done. While I must catch a bus to get to this laundromat & push my shopping cart load of clothes up a hill to the bus stop, then my wash did Not wash properly. Every little spot was still on my laundry on every item. Its clear the machines has not been fixed properly, by the fact the water comes rushing out as soon as the coin is in. Later, I would notice, the wash did not have enough water in the washer either. Well, consider how this owner does not refund patron, I have since learn to go the Alameda County DA's office to a refund. Well, it was hard the owner to refund my money, yet he thinks nothing if charging me for $7.50 load for a wash in which my laundry soap was wasted, but he feels that since I have had so much trouble there to Not Return. He feels when I am cheated if my coins on non-working machines, but requires a refund, rather that he's a problem because he owes me money he's not deserving, he see me as a problem for wanting such a large amount, yet it's nothing to him to charge $7.50 and not have a cleaned wash! on the one hand the prices on the regular washers are high. But the large washers are cheaper than most other places. The dryers actually do a good job. Unlike some other places that have crap dryers. My main complaint with this place is that there is no phone number posted anyplace for complaints or help. There are no attendants. There were a lot of signs saying last wash "10:00" & the hours sign said open till 11 -- but, they would not let me in even though it was 9:25 & were very rude about the entire thing. OK so I am new to the east bay, (so I am spoiled by the Little Hollywood Laundromat in SF.) Am looking for a fun full of life interesting, clean, and friendly laundromat for using. This is a so-so place. PROS: The hours are great: 7-midnight; always someone in there; things to do on the street for it is right on Piedmont Ave. washers and dryers are well kept. CONS: fairly drab and dingy on the inside, small amount of washers and dryers and only two sizes of washers; so although this is VERY easy to get to and will do in a pinch; I am still on my quest for the future place to clean my clothes... read more

I was just here tonight to wash my clothes and while the sign out front and inside says the mat closes at 11pm and last wash is at 10pm. My wash finished at 9:30pm and i put my items into the dryer for 30 minutes, left and returned 45 minutes later 10:45pm. The lights were out inside the laundromat and there was a great big heaping hulk of a man waiting inside. As we entered he said "we're closed!" And we said we're just getting our clothes from the dryer. He then claims to have been waiting for us for an hour (which cannot be true) and that the laundromat is already closed. I pointed to the sign and said it says you close at 11pm, and he said "no, these days we close early!" I said, there is nothing to indicate that, they should change the signs. Not all my clothes were dry so i was separating my wet clothes from my dry clothes so I could dry it latter. I wasn't upset I just figured I'd dry the rest at home since i have a washer/dryer anyway. Out of the 9 loads I washed, there was only a single bag that hadnt dried. As i'm separating me clothes he starts to say hurry it up, and making annoyed sounds. Then he comes over and says "alright you need to move faster, i've been waiting a bleeping hour! I have someplace to be, you're making me bleeping late!!" And i said "excuse me, if you would let me pack my clothes i'll be get done" and he said "i don't talk to women!" So i said well don't talk to me then, to which he responded "i don't talk to women!" So i said well stop talking and let me load my clothes "i don't talk to women!!!" He keeps saying. So at that point i realized he was absolutely insane. I continued packing my clothes and left. I won't ever return to this laundromat again! By the way, he does this whole thing in front of my 7 year old daughter who was totally traumatized by it. She says it was the worst monday ever. Poor thing. I don't know what meds that guy is on but I sure hope no one expects this place to be open til 11 because its unreliable and run by a crazy man. You'll have better luck letting your clothes hang dry at Gaylords coffee house down the street. Yeah this seriously just happened to me... Wowzers. What a terrible way to end the evening. read more

There are tables and chairs so you can people watch or eat your take out. I was not impressed with this park. Nobody came to greet me or give me any information about what the attractions were. All the rides were exactly the same, just this weird spinny thing. They also were quite frankly very dangerous, I could not breathe for nearly a whole hour. A Laundromat is in a terrific location - Piedmont Ave. But ... the washing machines gave me back whites that somehow became less white after a wash, and at least one towel came out of a dryer with a brown burn mark on it.
