The moment Dr. Cushing arrived, she was so gentle and kind. The way she did everything was with so much care and our cat had the most sweet goodbye (tuna and all) considering. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an alternative to in-office euthanasia. Thank you so much Dr. Cushing.

From the very first phone call, the Dr. Cushing showed an incredible level of empathy and understanding, taking care of the logistics smoothly so we didn't have to navigate difficult forms or explanations while grieving. When she arrived at our home, her presence was immediately calming and deeply respectful. She thoroughly explained every step of the process beforehand, ensuring we knew exactly what to expect and giving us all the unhurried, private time we needed to say our goodbyes. The entire process was profoundly gentle and entirely painless. Our sweet companion simply and peacefully fell asleep surrounded by love, free from the stress, unfamiliar smells, and anxiety of a traditional clinic visit. Afterward, the doctor provided us with the utmost privacy to grieve, handling our pet's remains with the highest level of dignity and care.I am forever grateful for the immense compassion, grace, and tenderness shown to both our family and our pet during their final moments. For anyone facing this heartbreaking transition, I cannot recommend this service highly enough--it is truly the most loving gift you can give a faithful companion.

Every time I have brought my dog in, we have seen a different vet, which would be fine except for…read morethat we have received very different care from each vet. Some are fantastic and kind, and the vet techs are always lovely. When he was a puppy, the dr was so sweet and calm with him to make sure he had a positive experience. But then multiple times in the past year and a half my dog was seen by a dr that did not try to greet him, give him treats, or comfort him in any way. He initially was pretty calm in the vet but after having these experiences he is now terrified. He snapped at one of these vets while getting a shot because he was so scared (I have never seen him have this reaction to anything before) and the vet said nothing to me, just muzzled him and brought him to the back. I am fine with the muzzle and having him taken to the back, but I wish there was some kindness shown towards either of us. Now I assume there is a note about this incident in his file, which I understand from a safety standpoint, but in the two times we have gone in since this, the drs have immediately muzzled him and again not spent time greeting or treating him. I had taken him to a different animal hospital for a non-invasive procedure (something not as scary as shots) and although he was nervous being in the environment, all the staff showered him with love and he was fine unmuzzled. I don't think we will be able to return to Riverside since my dog is so afraid and frankly I feel uncomfortable, which is too bad considering that some of the staff is excellent.

My dog needs dental work. Which if you've ever had dental work on your pet, you know its not…read moreinexpensive. So I took him to the vet where he had prior dental work done. This vet told me I need to have an echocardiogram done before they would do the dental work. And this vet does not do echos. So I began making calls. Every place required a previsit before they would do an echo. So its yet one more cost added to the separate cost of the echocardiogram. Riverside was one of the places I called last week. I agreed to a previsit, and they asked me to send the dog's records. Which I did over the weekend. Now today, Carole (Scheduling Liaison) sent me an email telling me Dr. Ledoux is NOT accepting new patients for echos. Thanks. Thanks for wasting my time. And for not caring about me trying to take proper care of my dog. This dental will cost over, maybe well over $1000. And don't expect help or understanding here. Not like I asked for a discount or for them to do anything for other than their fees.

Having a long history with my last few dogs and Dr. Meade - who was amazing - I am highly…read moredisappointed with the care my dog has received since covid hit and Dr. Meade retired. Having an anxious animal makes it hard each visit - with having to give him calming meds that were prescribed by this new staff(which don't help) to getting him out of the car and into the building - and he won't go with one of them - has to be me. He has not seen a vet for a full physical in 4 years - has had his allergy shots and other shots in the car several times and even after the staff had covid last year (I know they had it as I had to change my appt because they were closed and they still were following the come out and take the animal policy they seem to have adopted). Over the past 4 years, We did have a great visit with a "fill in" vet last year when he needed an allergy shot, she went over, above, and beyond to check him out and get some overall other areas of his health covered, which was the only reason I didn't switch vets when his physical came up this years. This visit, I got an email to schedule his shots, physical, etc. I responded he needed his allergy shot also and they set the appointment. Gave him his medication to relax him the night before and day of the appt, pulled up to the parking lot - no more COVID note on the door (just lunch closed hours), I was relieved - took 10 minutes to get my dog out of the car, he is over 100 lbs and afraid of being there, get to the door and it is locked - again. Called them - they are still doing the tech to the car and then bring the pet in. Get the dog back in the car and he is now in full blown panic mode....and I am totally frustrated. Once again, this does not work for my dog, hasn't for the last 3-4 years. I expressed my concerns for the 100th time when the tech came out, asked if we could just do his rabies shot and allergy shot then as a visit isn't going to be possible with these conditions still being their mode of operation - not with his anxiety. She comes back out and says he is only scheduled for an allergy shot and can't see a vet today anyway as she is busy with a highly contagious animal. Wait, what? You sent me an email with all his things he needs and you only scheduled the allergy shot I added to the list???? And he takes medication to go to the vet - so you want me to do this again in a week or two??? She gives me some excuse about them having to clean everything because of the contagious cough and they would then let me bring him into a room to get his allergy shot. They did not care one bit that a long term client, basically told them to send the records over to a new vet that day. Just "we understand". Glad you understand....lol. They also proceeded to tell me how wonderful all of their 4 vets were (great, haven't seen one of them in 4 years....) Made an appt with Cambridge Street Animal Hospital while in the parking lot. The woman on the phone was great and very helpful, got him in for this week so he can get his rabies shot before it expires and be seen - even have an anxious pet entrance area. Happy already. It is sad to end a relationship with any business, but it was necessary.

Upon becoming new patients I was very impressed with the compassion and great care they provided to me and my pets. When my dog suffered a stroke and had to be put down, Dr Johnson was so kind and comforting. The alternative was taht They put her on a special diet to dissolve the stones., and then when I tried to order food, they failed to do so. Upon calling multiple times to obtain food or a prescription where I could get it elsewhere I was told that they could not give me a prescription and they could not help me and that they no longer wanted to treat my cat. I asked them to please send me a prescription as my cat now would need to return to food that caused the stones as I had to be able to feed her something. I then received and email that They no longer wanted to treat my cat and were sending me a prescription and my records. This was so shocking to me that an actual VET that was so caring before would turn into not so much of the care of the animal but now turned into a money hungry uncaring person. My opinion is things changed when I couldn't dole out the money for surgery and wanted to try an alternative plan. When the alternative plan was to buy my food closer to home they felt they would no longer benefit from me being a customer. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE Customer service and patient Care!!!!

It is always important to interview any veterinarian and ask around for peoples' experiences…read morebecause my experience will be different than others based on several factors. We were regular customers of Bassler Veterinary Hospital for several years, beginning with when the doctor was on Bridge Road. When the doctor moved to the new building, it seemed as if the prices increased. We later found out that the doctor was including a training fee, meaning the additional fee was to continue to send her staff to training in the field. I can appreciate that and appreciate seeing all the certificates on the wall. At least it is assurance for you knowing her staff continue their education in the field. I can't tell you how many times I have been to other vets and they can't draw blood correctly. The staff here can do it flawlessly. We had our differences when the doctor moved to this location and it has been a few years since we have been to this doctor. The business is thriving in the area, so Dr. Bassler is doing something right. We would like to come back at some point to test the waters again, in the event there was some unfortunate experience with her and us at the beginning. I can say that Dr. Bassler does care about your pets. If you think prices are high, just shop around and ask around. Also consider pet insurance. We have Nationwide (VPI) Pet Insurance Superior and always recommend it. Be sure to ask the doctor and staff to explain all charges and ask questions all the time if you don't feel you are being informed. Prices can be expensive if you don't ask. The staff here are very friendly, educated, and caring. Dr. Bassler offers a general practice for your pet including dental services, in a new and clean facility. Dr. Bassler is a friendly and caring veterinarian who will absolutely care for your pets.

One of our shepherd lab mix had an end of life stroke (Dec '24) and the other shepherd hound mix had a debilitating cancer and lost key functions. (Feb '25). We were supported in our final decisions by the team at Bassler including Dr. Bassler herself. For anyone who has been through it, it is difficult to lose a part of your family. That said, I'd recommend Bassler. They are compassionate explaining the process. They have a dedicated room. They have a facility they work with for options and cremation, urns etc. Cost is around 300 for the procedure at the hospital and another 300 if you want to have the 3rd party do the arrangements for you. We did the free items they offered without additional cost. A basic box for ashes and paw print. You can spend a lot more if you choose for name plates and urns etc. For awareness, the Bassler group were very supportive and accommodating but they are not a 24 hour facility so plan accordingly. A few days later, we received a nice handwritten card from Dr Bassler that was signed by the whole staff who worked that day. None of it is easy or ok but Dr Bassler did the best for us in a difficult time. Obviously we stand by them as we used them twice. Best of luck.
