Steer clear of this place! They almost killed my dog. The FDA issued a warning about Credelio causing seizures on Sept 21st, 2018. Four months later they gave it to my dog! Immediately she started having diarrhea but I didn't connect the two. Then she started having seizures and the second one she stopped breathing in my arms. After I got back from the emergency Vet, I started to do research. When I called them to find out the name of the medication I also found out they gave her TWICE the amount for her weight! My dog is 76 pounds and they gave her a dose for a 100lb dog. This is clearly medical malpractice to gave prescribed a dangerous drug and also too much of it! I would like to remove their Cornell diploma and run it through the shredder. These people belong in jail! read more

Very Dissappointed in this facility! In 2008 upon moving to the area it was recommended by a friend to take my pets to JVH. Upon becoming new patients I was very impressed with the compassion and great care they provided to me and my pets. When my dog suffered a stroke and had to be put down, Dr Johnson was so kind and comforting. Fast forward to 2018, where the facility is now caring for my aging cat, who they diagnosed with Bladder stones. The price for the surgery was off the charts and I couldn't afford such a thing. The alternative was taht They put her on a special diet to dissolve the stones., and then when I tried to order food, they failed to do so. Upon calling multiple times to obtain food or a prescription where I could get it elsewhere I was told that they could not give me a prescription and they could not help me and that they no longer wanted to treat my cat. I asked them to please send me a prescription as my cat now would need to return to food that caused the stones as I had to be able to feed her something. I then received and email that They no longer wanted to treat my cat and were sending me a prescription and my records. This was so shocking to me that an actual VET that was so caring before would turn into not so much of the care of the animal but now turned into a money hungry uncaring person. My opinion is things changed when I couldn't dole out the money for surgery and wanted to try an alternative plan. When the alternative plan was to buy my food closer to home they felt they would no longer benefit from me being a customer. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE Customer service and patient Care!!!! read more

Dr Johnson has been caring for all our animals over many many years. He performed two cruciate ligament surgeries on our lab. He is so kind, patient and caring with them and the owners. He frequently will follow up with phone calls outside of normal business hours to check up in his patients. When our animals pass over the rainbow bridge, we received very thoughtful and personal cards from him and his staff. If you only want the best for your pets, then Dr Johnson is the vet for you! read more

Caring, compassionate, patient and present. After almost 16 years of caring for our Andy from puppy to old age, we finally made the gut wrenching decision with Dr. Johnson to end Andy's suffering. Dr. Johnson did not push this decision one way or the other, simply providing us with his expert medical opinion and options. Dr. Johnson's kindness and presence during this most difficult of decisions to the very end was exemplary. I cannot imagine a more dignified and sensitive process. I must add our appreciation to Dr. Linnell's kind care who has reconnected with Andy and the family after being away for 10 years - the circle of life! This vet hospital is AMAZING. My entire family has been bringing their pets to Johnsons for many years. We have used them for routine care as well as several emergencies some of which required surgery. EVERY time without exception I have felt so cared for by Dr Johnson and the tech staff. They spend time with me every time I go and always answer all of my questions. They are also extremely affordable charging HUNDREDS LESS Compared to Bulger's animal hospital just miles away for the same procedures. I have since moved to CT And I insist on bringing my dog there for his non-emergency care. Dr Johnson is worth the two hour drive! read more

My dog went in today for a very simple procedure that requires anesthesia and it's worth noting that he gets very anxious whenever he goes near a vet hospital. When this procedure was done previously, I explained the them that it would be in everyone's best interest to take him immediately in the back and give him a shot to relax him before he gets all worked up and anxious. We waited for 20 minutes in the waiting room before they took him and needless to say it was a horrible experience for the dog and the staff. Not to mention that this procedure was $75 more than the previous Vet that did the same procedure 90 minutes away. I called in advance this time and asked that he be the first appointment of the day so they could just take him right in, I called 5 minutes before arriving, the receptionist knew about him and even said maybe we should take him in through the back door, and then said no problem we are prepared to take him right in for the procedure We walked in, the 2 people up front looked at each other as if they had no idea what to do, we waited for 10 minutes and watched a Vet Tech walk in the door 10 minutes late without a care in the world, and shortly thereafter the Dr. came out and said I have bad news. We can't access the medication and can't do the procedure today. Did they not know this 15 minutes earlier when I was on the phone with them? They have no respect for your time and not once, but twice they couldn't execute a very reasonable request. They may or may not provide great care, but they do a poor job of doing the things that matter most to a customer which is to listen to their needs and do what they can to make the animals comfortable. If anyone could recommend a caring Vet in the Andover, MA area, I would love to hear about them. read more

It was over 10 years ago. We had a medical emergency with our dog late on a Saturday night. We called our vet (a different vet at that time - a highly regarded vet in Andover) but they would not do anything to help us. They just gave us some basic instructions and told us to visit their office the next day. We did not think this was enough. We were quite worried about our dog. She was in respiratory distress. On the advice of friends, we tried calling Dr. Johnson. He agreed to meet us at his offices right then. The injury was serious, and Dr Johnson gave it the attention it deserved. We switched to Johnson Veterinary Hospital from then on. Obviously, this was an unusual set of circumstances. But beyond the emergencies, Dr Johnson and his team have been great for our dogs for many years now and we swear by them. read more

I've had an emergency visit and two other regular checkups and Everytime I've gone it's been an easy experience . My family has used Dr. Johnson and now Dr. Prue for over 10 years. Their staff and they have awlays been kind, compassionate people who treat our animals with respect. Both vets are very thorough. About a year ago I had to bring my cat in for some tests, and ended up keeping him there until about 6 30 on a Friday night. Also, I eventually had an emergency situation where I had to put the cat to sleep. Dr. Johnson was not there, and I had never met Dr. Prue before. She was the nicest, kindest person to me. She let me cry all over her. And sent me a nice note afterwards. I am always confident that my pets get the best care possible going there. And the prices are very reasonable compared to other vets! read more

I wouldn't send any animal of mine to this vet if their tails were on fire. The attitude of "Dr." Johnson is so laisse faire even in a situation where a dog's prognosis isn't good. He acted ike it was no big deal. And he isn't even in the office open to close. I don't know a doc in world who isn't the last to leave their practices. I am especially disturbed by the fact that I haven't been able to find out if he's even a board certified surgeon. It also makes me curious as to why he doesn't have what is basic equipment these days like an ultrasound machine. If you plan on boarding at his facility keep in mind a human is NOT on premises 24/7 so your pet will be left alone all night. 1 star is too good a rating for this somewhat condescending jerk. read more

I found the care superficial - as if they're too busy to really take an interest in their patients. The desk staff spends a lot of time complaining about how over-worked they are; when you're sitting waiting to see someone, it's uncomfortable because you can't help but wonder if they'd be happier if you just left. It might be unfair, but I think that my cat might still be alive had I gone somewhere else. On the first visit, the vet didn't see anything wrong. On the follow-up three days later, the cat was terminally ill and had to be put down. (They didn't do that procedure, though i had to travel 20 miles away.) The ASSISTANTS however were all eager, engaged, and friendly. They clearly love the work they do. Overall, I just can't recommend them. read more

This vet is over-booked to the point where emergency cases are given scant help. The primary vet missed obvious things in an examination of my cat - we got a second opinion and discovered she was bleeding internally. The staff is rude, obnoxious, and "dramatic" - if there's ever one of those hidden camera shows centering on vets - this place would be a prime candidate. There are better vets in the area - you pet deserves one of them. read more

Both veterinarians and all the staff here are wonderful! My dog was heart worm positive which was very challenging and anxiety provoking at a stressful time in my life when finances were tight. After explaining all available treatment options, they were very patient, flexible, and understanding throughout the process. Please take your pet somewhere else, the front staff acts like your invisible, the technician seem uneducated and stumped of simple and basic question about flea control and deworming. Dr. Johnson has been our vet for the last ten years. We have brought 5 cats to his practice over the years and can't say enough good things about Dr. Johnson. He is very smart, perceptive, and obviously loves animals. I truly believe he is the best vet we have ever delt with. This past year we had a cat that had a slow decline due to kidney failure, and D. Johnson did everything to keep our cat comfortable up to the very end. He never gave up on our kitty. He was also very compassionate toward the cat and us throughout the whole ordeal. I waffled between a 4 star and a 5 star, as they often run a half hour late, sometimes with a difficult issue I imagine.. BUT I'll explain the Woohoo rating: My animals have been long time patients of Dr. Johnson... decades.... and his staff and office have grown into a very busy office, compared to earlier days. I have always found them helpful and friendly, and they all have all kinds of pets.. Today was exceptional. My newly adopted "Abby" a smaller dog who is pretty, friendly, and full of anxiety, even pulled out a canine tooth during a thunderstorm storm in February. Aside from being afraid of all dogs, any size, as if she's never been around any (or maybe too many for her size to cope), we had our post op check today and I told staff as they meandered around checking on things, that aside from a t-storm tranquilizer (that canine tooth was $$$!), Abby has anxiety, not enough to destroy anything, but reacts strongly to even the sight of another dog. Very insecure. Before Dr. Johnson came into the exam room, Jeannie who has an 85 lb Rottie pup, very sweet, had "Atlas" lie down on his side, and held him gently, so maybe Abby would be brave and curious enough to investigate. To our total surprise, she did the doggie "play bow" to invite play. What a sign for me, how to keep doing what I'm doing. Then, a 14 lb Pomeranian came by w/another staff, and Abby was curious, not whining--a huge step. Just before we left, another staff brought in her barely 1-2lb Chihuahua baby! Abby was fascinated. It was so kind of all of them to help my situation with her and I felt more encouragement with her. Progress. Finally. Finally, we left, Abby was happy, and little did she know she'll be taking Prozac daily to see if she'll lose some anxiety, and t-storm tranquilizer when nec.. Abby has quite the array of toys, safe treats/bones, and Storm Defender and Thundershirts. I won't ask my husband to give up his closet. :-/ Poor 13 yr old cat gets nothing cos he's a puker,....but he's still Alpha. Good boy. read more

We have been with Johnson Vets for 2 dogs now, well over 15 years. Our first dog, a chow, loved going to this vet. When he was 15 years, our vet convinced my husband to let the dog go. Such compassion, from her and all the staff. ("This dog would walk through fire and broken glass to be with you, do you want to put him through that".) Years later, with a new pound dog, I'm just as impressed with their mix of professionalism and friendliness. The office is clean, parking plentiful. Busy place, but they always find time for us. This Vet is not in it for the money, they will give advice and refills over the phone, have a great website, and inexpensive on line pet pharmacy. Years ago we had dr Johnson put our dog Gracie to sleep. It was a horror show and until I had more recently experienced a dog being put to sleep humanely we didn't know any better. Gracie was on my young daughter's lap. Dr Johnson gave the dog an injection (one injection only) that caused intense pain and spasm that went on for what felt like an eternity but was probably about 30 seconds. The dog was not made unconscious first - this was not an emergency - so there was no reason for the dog to be put down this way. Was it faster? Easier for the vet? Was it cheaper? At a local emergency hospital before we had to put our dog Cody to sleep I questioned what had happened with our Gracie with dr Johnson. They said they would NEVER put a dog to sleep in that manner. Our Gracie suffered unimaginably for no good reason and my daughter and my family have never forgotten the horror. Ask lots of questions if you plan to put your dog to sleep at this practice. Make sure it will be done humanely. Our last dog was asleep peacefully before the second lethal dose was given. I hope this helps future pets and their owners. read more

Love Dr. Johnson and his staff, they have always taken the time with both my cat and dog. When I had an emergency with my cat they put her in ICU and she was so well cared for I was allowed to go out back and visit with her, my dog had a some kind of Nerve disorder and could barely move or lie down they were incredible. I highly recommend Dr. Johnson and his staff they are always friendly and helpful even when I missed an appointment. If anyone says they had a bad experience I would highly recommend for them to try again. read more

Dr. Johnson is a very competent and compassionate vet who went the extra mile to help me diagnose a sudden onset neurological problem with my beautiful dachshund. He is clearly a dachshund lover who understands the breed and really appreciates their quirkiness.
