Every time I have brought my dog in, we have seen a different vet, which would be fine except for that we have received very different care from each vet. Some are fantastic and kind, and the vet techs are always lovely. When he was a puppy, the dr was so sweet and calm with him to make sure he had a positive experience. But then multiple times in the past year and a half my dog was seen by a dr that did not try to greet him, give him treats, or comfort him in any way. He initially was pretty calm in the vet but after having these experiences he is now terrified. He snapped at one of these vets while getting a shot because he was so scared (I have never seen him have this reaction to anything before) and the vet said nothing to me, just muzzled him and brought him to the back. I am fine with the muzzle and having him taken to the back, but I wish there was some kindness shown towards either of us. Now I assume there is a note about this incident in his file, which I understand from a safety standpoint, but in the two times we have gone in since this, the drs have immediately muzzled him and again not spent time greeting or treating him. I had taken him to a different animal hospital for a non-invasive procedure (something not as scary as shots) and although he was nervous being in the environment, all the staff showered him with love and he was fine unmuzzled. I don't think we will be able to return to Riverside since my dog is so afraid and frankly I feel uncomfortable, which is too bad considering that some of the staff is excellent. read more

My dog needs dental work. Which if you've ever had dental work on your pet, you know its not inexpensive. So I took him to the vet where he had prior dental work done. This vet told me I need to have an echocardiogram done before they would do the dental work. And this vet does not do echos. So I began making calls. Every place required a previsit before they would do an echo. So its yet one more cost added to the separate cost of the echocardiogram. Riverside was one of the places I called last week. I agreed to a previsit, and they asked me to send the dog's records. Which I did over the weekend. Now today, Carole (Scheduling Liaison) sent me an email telling me Dr. Ledoux is NOT accepting new patients for echos. Thanks. Thanks for wasting my time. And for not caring about me trying to take proper care of my dog. This dental will cost over, maybe well over $1000. And don't expect help or understanding here. Not like I asked for a discount or for them to do anything for other than their fees. read more

They have no consideration for senior dogs and their well being. If you have any emergency with your pet FORGET ABOUT IT. Then when they get you there, they make you wait forever and a day with that senior dog. This will be the last time we ever come here and we have been coming here for a long time. My mom brought her senior dog here to put him down and they made her feel bad and sent our dog home with her. She had to bring him back a couple days later for the same thing! No compassion. My cat needed to be euthanized In an emergency event ..last week..the woman was so mean uncaring and cold..every time we talked she interrupted us ..the total was $430..which i understand prices have gone up ..we got ashes in an urn with no name no paw print and i just find this to be upsetting and unsettling the way the woman treated us ..HORRIBLE we also had another cat cremated at another facility where they were wonderful.. treated us wonderfully so caring..when we got the ashes the urn isaid InLovingMemory with the cats name we got forget-me-nots to plant as well as a rainbow bridge card and a paw print for $150 less ..now this was a year ago and then a few years back our dog had to be euthanized and we there got a beautiful box type urn with a plate on it that said his name the date.in loving memory again with forget-me-nots a beautiful sympathy card as well as a rainbow bridge card..so this unfortunately has been very upsetting in the last few days for us ...as far as Riverside goes I've always used them for my other cat and have never had a problem and they've always been respectful and their prices are affordable, but this was just a very, very disappointing and very sad and upsetting situation.. read more

I am so disappointed I brought my cat for a mass on her neck. They gave me false hope that the mass could be removed. And then they changed their minds and actually told my daughter that they were dragging their feet on this because of her age but they never said anything to me about that. Now my sweet girl is gone. Vet brought my husband to tears about our 6 month old pup, explaining after his neuter that his fear anxiety makes him not a "family dog". I've called to ask for medication assistance with his anxiety 2+ times with no one willing to prescribe. We have him in training, and are doing everything we can to help our guy! How can they tell us to give up on a pup who is this young!? I've now emailed twice with no response, requested his medical record to transition elsewhere also with no response!!!! To top it off his neuter that was scheduled for 3 months was rescheduled the day before !!! Unhappy, sad, unsupported, is an understatement. Do not recommend. read more

Mixed. I brought my cat in for dental work, and it turned out well at a reasonable cost. But then I was asked if I wanted to give an email address. I asked specifically if it would be used only for notifications and I wouldn't be put on a mailing list. I got a "yes" answer to both of these. The next day: TWO spam emails from Riverside! Why does anyone think that spamming existing customers against their express wishes after lying about it is going to help their business? I really don't understand. Update 1/4/23: Yesterday I called and got a message saying they're closed till December 26. What?? It's January! Also, their voice mailbox (which I could find only by poking random number) was full. And they're still spamming me. Downgrading to 2 stars. Update 4/5/23: Made more attempts to get them to take me off their spam list. They pretended they didn't know what I was talking about and spammed me some more. One star. read more

March 7, 2024 Hello,  I received an email stating that I can leave any comments here. So here goes nothing. I had to euthanize our dog Timmy on January 30. I did not receive any compassion nor did my Timmy. I was very unhappy with how the procedure went down. I won't get into specifics, but just know that I've never dealt with a euthanasia like I did with this one I put plenty of my dogs down with Riverside, and this was the worst experience ever, now let's go to the following Friday Timmy was put down on a Tuesday that Friday my two other dogs had appointments prior to the devastating situation. We were put in the same room that I had to put Timmy down and I said to the Vet tech that put us in there I was just here on Tuesday with my other dog that I had to put down. He just said oh I'm sorry and walked out of the room  , Unacceptable. Bentley had to have a teeth cleaning this past week and I was not happy with the bill obviously because there was extra fees on there that did not need to be on there that I asked to have taken off such as surgical packs and surgical materials because he did not have surgery. He had a tooth cleaning, honestly I don't even know if he needed all the anesthesia that was charged for a tooth cleaning so I'm not sure if I was overrcharged . Checking out  At the front desk was a fiasco. I was charged twice for bloodwork that had to be deducted from the bill and it was just a mess .  Prior to Bentley's appointment with him going with the blood work. I received at least five emails that we owed money. I was being hounded, no pun intended , I feel sorry for other patrons that go to you who have no idea how to read a bill when everything's broken down like that .  Hopefully the next time we come visit Riverside vet it'll be a better experience because these last several times have been terrible April 30,2024 Hello, I received an email from Riverside vet and I responded on how disappointed I was .  Nobody ever responded apologizing or acknowledging how upsetting my experience has been with Riverside Vet. I took my cat here for 17 years. They were always gentle and caring. The doctor always calling me back and answering questions. When I had to put my kitty down, the doctor and assistant couldn't have been any nicer. What I appreciated especially was that they took the time to send a card and wait the appropriate amount of time afterwards to bill for that. It was such a traumatic experience, I was thankful for their consideration. When it comes to people's beloved pets, it's more than a business transaction. We live in the area and we're in need of a new vet. I stopped by and was told by the receptionist that we had to fill out the online application and they would get back to in 24 to 72 hours. No response. They didn't call back. We called nine days and were told they were not taking any patients. Great. No courtesy call to let us know. What a way to run a business. Guess they are too busy to care. Think twice about going to this practice. read more

We have brought our three pets here for the past 5 years and always been fairly satisfied as they are very caring, and don't PRICE GOUGE like many vets do.... however the last occurrence was very disturbing and unacceptable. We had a local vet come to our home to euthanize our beloved 15 year old Yellow Lab and she brought her to Riverside to have her sent to be cremated. I filled out the form she provided checking off "private cremation" and getting her ashes back, which the visiting vet relayed to Riverside. I then called them within 2 days to confirm I wanted a private cremation... A month later I got a call from Riverside, asking me if I wanted a private cremation, or group and I was taken back, my response being "You have got to be kidding me!!"...The tech said "I will call you back". A week goes by, and I get a call back from a new woman knows nothing at all...but again wants to know what I want, and then when I ask whats going on, gets defensive and claims I never called them because there is nothing in the computer, tends to put the blame on me. I got frustrated with her and asked to speak with the original tech whom wasn't there. So another week goes by and the original tech calls me back, says my dog is "all taken care of", but they want to know "if I want a private or group cremation"...(now this is 5 weeks after her euthanasia)...I questioned..what was done? AGAIN she says after my questioning "let me call you back" !! So, today she calls me back to say that "nothing was done even though she thought she was all taken care of as they never got any instructions" (which they did) ....So my dog is still in the freezer (nice thought) and they are sending her out tomorrow. I double checked with the vet that came to my house, whom says that she confirmed with them I wanted her to have a private cremation, and I know I called them 2 days later to confirm. I just think this place is really busy, but this was very unprofessional and insensitive by them, for someone who just lost a 15 year old beloved family dog for her to be in their freezer for a over a month. Yes maybe I should have followed up more, but I thought our dog was already cremated...not in the freezer! (thought she was already taken care of) This is awful! So Sorry Saydi! I know the purpose of this site is to help others (consumers).....They are not a bad vet hospital...have served us well, but I have to give them a negative rating for this, as I think their staff is a bit slip shot on keeping records with the high volume...and this experience was very upsetting! read more

Great place. My wife and I adopted a dog from TN but never had him check up since we have him. Finally, we decided to have him doing some blood work and check up just to make sure he is fine. The staffs are great, very gentle and even my dog pee inside, they were "OK" with it. We brought all of the medical history with us, the staff made photo copies and Dr. Karen asked the staff to put them into the system and set up auto reminders. The check up was fast and Dr. Karen was great. I think my doggie is going to look forward to his next check up soon. read more

Dr Owen was great, and the whole staff was very professional. It was because of Dr Owen's gut instinct to keep my guy for a few hours to get a urine sample, and it was determined that my kitty had crystals in his urine, and his bladder was full of bloody fluid. I learned a lot about my kitties health scare and how to take care of his urinary crystals. I don't know what I would have done if they didn't decide to keep him for observation, and something terrible happened. After one day, he seems to be a little better and slowly getting back to himself. I think the vet's recommendation on changes to his diet will help tremendously, and save his life! Knowing that we had just moved from California she made sure our Kairi had all the proper boosters, and gave her a complete examination. To say that our experience with Riverside Vet has been disappointing would be an absolute understatement. We have been a loyal customer for years and have referred many friends and family. I am now embarrassed that I ever told anyone to go there. Our dog was given a biopsy on Wednesday, November 13. We were told we'd be given the results on Friday the 15th. By 3pm on Friday we hadn't heard a word so we called and they said the results weren't in but the vet (Bailey) would call before she left for the day. When we received no call by SATURDAY AT 10AM, we called again and were told Bailey is out of the office until Wednesday. Making it clear we weren't satisfied with this we were assured that a Vet tech would review our dog's results and call us back promptly. Here we are at 2:20pm on Saturday with the office closed and no return call. A vet, of all people should know that a pet is an important part of every family. We have been a wreck waiting for these results and since no one at Riverside Vet has any common decency, we now have to continue to wait. I am absolutely disgusted and will certainly be sure to spread the word to not use this provider. STEER CLEAR is all I can say. read more

When my dog got sick, they treated him even though I couldn't pay for anything. They offered me a payment plan that let me choose my own monthly installments and due dates. When my dog got fleas, they sold me Frontline Plus, but it did nothing so now they are offering me a free Advantix bottle instead. Frontline Plus's own customer service wouldn't offer me a refund, but Riverside didn't hesitate to help. These vets are great, I'd rather drive half an hour to them than see someone in my own town. read more

We only take our pets here! We have 3 cats and a dog. The doctors and tech's are outstanding. They listen to what is said, they get all the answers - good/bad, and are honest. They all genuinely love animals and treat all the animals with extreme care! Last year, we lost an animal to cancer. They made sure that we had time with her before we had to say goodbye. They are personable and get to know all the animals personalities. .. I highly recommend this Veterinary! read more

I have been using Riverside Veterinary Clinic for 5 years. From my very first visit the staff and doctors have provided exceptional care and customer service. I have had several vet doctors in the past and they have NEVER provided compassionate and reliable services like Riverside. They treated my 13 year old yellow lab as if he was one of their own. I have called their office MANY times with what I thought was an emergency situation and they always told me to just bring my dog in. Many times, I overreacted to my dog's symptoms or injuries but Riverside understood my love and concern for my dog and never questioned the emergency. I commend them for being so patient with me because their was alot of those visits in his senior years! They were also really good returning calls and answering questions over the phone. They fully explain all your options and never try to talk you into unnecessary procedures and medications. Matter of fact, they have the animals best interest at heart and do not want to do any unncessary testing to the animal. I trust them so much that I called them while on vacation with a friend who's cat was having problems and they provided me with thoughtful and informative information. Over the five years I can not think of any negative interactions with Riverside. They have exceeded all my expectations as a veterinary clinic and I love their compassion for the animals. They truly are the BEST doctors and staff. read more

They seemed persistent about putting my cat down because it was easy, even more persistent to nickel and dime things to the bill, also pressured me for my social security number while holding my dead cat and crying. I went here faithfully when Karen Crawford was one of the owners and one of the vets. Since she left it has not changed for the better. They nickel and dime on the bills, and my friend had the worst experience when she had to put her dog down this past week. The vet is brand new and suggested she take her suffering dog who could barely stand, home for 24 hours with some meds. She told my friend that some people put their animals down for convenience! This dog had been fighting Cushing's disease for a long time, had had a brain issue of some type overnight and was obviously suffering! My friend is more devastated about this comment and the vet's attitude than she is about having to put her dog to sleep. She needs some time to decide how she wants to approach the vet about this, but has already decided she may be taking her two other dogs elsewhere. I am angry enough to say something right now on her behalf. I left this practice after Dr. Crawford and Dr. Owens left. They had their reasons and they were obviously right to do so. Don't know what is wrong with this vet who is new but my pets will NOT ever darken the doorway of Riverside (and I have two dogs and two cats) again. read more

The place is great, and I never had an issue with them. Bringing all my three dogs there all the time. However, one comment I must make is the front desk woman, who always makes comments about my two dogs, of them being shy. She is super loud when she speaks and draws everyone's attention to the dog. RUN, don't walk away from this place. After working in vet care for many years, this place is as nasty as it gets. I went with a friend in an emergency situation to have her cat euthanized. We got there and the waiting room was crowded and noisy. We were left sitting out there with a dying and distressed cat and not even acknowledged for at least 20 minutes. When we were finally addressed, they took the cat into a post surgery room and placed all the meds on a cold metal table. There were sick animals in cages there and a big dog who was just coming out of annestesia howling on the floor under the metal table. I asked if they had a private room and the vet told me all the rooms were filled. They knew we were coming and why and didn't even give my friend the dignity of a private room for this most difficult time of pet ownership. Yes, they took us in as an "emergency" case, but in most emergency cases I've witnessed through the years, vet practices would create a private room for a case such as this. Not here. The cat was in utter distress as was my friend. After my insistence for a private room, they gruffly and annoying said they could take us into the "surgery." The surgery was tiny, narrow and a mess. I looked at it and said to myself I would never want my pet operated in here. The cat succumbed to his illness and died thrashing around on the table. Lovely. My friend, who was visibly upset and crying, asked what was going on and the vet just looked up and said "he's dying." not a note of sympathy or care in her voice. It was an atrocious event. The vet was cold, callous and unfriendly through it all. I would NEVER go to this place with all the vet clinic choices there are in the area. I even suggested that my friend find a new place after all that. She will. 1. They apparently overbook which is why the dingy and dirty waiting room was full. 2. They had no respect for this emergency case, treating us like we were a bother. 3. The animal room was narrow, full, crowded and messy, with a very large dog crying on the floor. They obviously had no accommodations for such a patient. 4. The vet was cold, unfriendly and impatient with our questions and with my friends distress. She talked down to us. 5. I couldn't wait to get out of there. It was a depressing and eye opening experience. Go elsewhere and avoid this place at all costs. There are many other vet clinics in the Haverhill area! Just because the exterior is nice looking, it doesn't account for the horrible, loud, dingy and overly booked and busy interior. Run....don't walk away from this place!!!!! read more

Long story made shorter, we brought our dog here to get groomed & were very specific on the intake form, as well as over the phone with the groomer. The dog they gave back to us looked completely different than the dog we brought in, our wishes were completely disregarded, our dog was there for 7.5 hours (but they said the grooming took 3 hours), we tried calling the manager and left 3 messages, still no call back. Why was he there for 7.5 hours for a 3 hour grooming? When we made the appointment, it seemed like all was well. When we brought him in, the receptionist seemed surprised, as there was an internal miscommunication about his visit. They also made us get him a canine influenza vaccine in order to do the grooming, when our vet recommended waiting until he was a year old before doing that, if we wanted to, as it was not a core-vaccine. We got a call from the groomer to verify what we wanted done with him and were very specific: "don't touch the head or the tail. We don't want them trimmed, at all." He came back with less than 3/4" on his head. He went in with 3" and we loved his long hair. The groomer nicked his nipples with the razor as well as two spots on his skin (bloody scabs left as evidence - in addition to the vaccine injection site) and he had razor burn. We can see the pink of his skin. They didn't touch the tail, at all...as in unwashed and debris left as evidence that his backside wasn't washed, at all. He had dirt debris caked on and flaking off his manly bits & rear end. We had to clean it at home the next day, after paying this place $140 for a grooming and (unnecessary) vaccine. This place is dismissive, and seems more interested in making money than truly doing what you ask them to do. Our dog was shaken up and just not himself after coming home. He was terribly embarrassed and we are never going back. We've taken him to other groomers before. We've never had such a bad experience. He always leaves happy & looking proud, for a fraction of the cost. Not this time. Save yourself the experience. Go somewhere else. We tried to work it out with management, and have since Monday afternoon. It's now Wednesday night. read more

I recently lost my favorite baby cat to a cancer related illness and Riverside Veterinary Clinic was amazing working with us. Our Vet kept in contact with us as we tried different approaches but sadly Atari had to be put helped to pass over. We were treated with dignity and compassion the entire process and were even sent a condolence card a week after she passed. I have no complaints, only good things to say about Riverside. read more

We bring all 3 of our dogs here and we love the place agreed some days are busy but look at any emergency room at any hospital. Considering the city has 60k residents and 4 vet clinics they do tremendous job and they are very accommodating. Pleasant attitudes definitely recommended read more

I have been bringing my pets to Riverside Vet for the past 20+ years. I love all of the Vets and the vet Techs are great! They are kind and compassionate. They understand that your pets are like your children, and they treat them as such. I tried another Vet because it was very close to my house, 2 visits and that was it....I was right back at Riverside. My boxer has cardiac issues and my adopted chocolate is quite loud and misbehaved in the office when faced with so many other animals. They have been wonderful to both of them, they allow us to wait outside and come and get us when it is our turn. I really wouldn't trust either of my dog's care to anyone else!! read more

I have never been disappointed. The staff ( we particularly LOVE Dr Owen! ) are friendly and professional and courteous . They are tuned into my pets and to me so well and have been so amazing when I've had to euthanize one of my fur kids. I even got a lovely note the following week. I briefly decided a few weeks to try another vet simply due to that 40 minute commute. What a mistake - but that's another review. Suffice it to say I called Riverside after two appointments at the other clinic and asked to please come back. They were lovely about it. Definitely recommended!! read more

After an unfortunate accident at a NH groomer I called Riverside Vet Clinic immediately since we have been going to them over 25 years, when they were located in Bradford. They were closed but I left a message and the doctor not only called me back but called an emergency clinic in No Andover for me while I was in the phone in my car coming from groomer with a bleeding dog and they were waiting for me! The absolutely DO care about the animals; they have taken care of many of my dogs through the years,and I would never go anywhere else. They are compassionate animal lovers and it shows! read more

So, I have gone through several vets.... this veterinary clinic is by far TOP rating in my personal opinion. Not only was I comfortable, but most importantly my puppy wasn't as anxious as the last place I went. Dr Nikki was recommended to me by a coworker and she lived up to everything I expected and beyond! Knowledgable, caring, passionate in her work. Hands down this place is awesome.
