Stay FAR FAR away from A Dressy Occasion based in Gilbert, AZ. Their "policies" for returns and exchanges are a farce. They give you the run around about approving a return so long, you surpass their "window". Then when you challenge that, they refuse to do actual exchanges and give no refunds at all. They will only do is give a reduced store cedit. Now none of this would have been necessary had their size chart been accurate. I ordered 2 sizes up from my measurements and the dress was skin tight! Then they said I had to pay return shipping and shipping for another dress! And let's not even discuss the cheap fabric used! Extreemly shady practices. Don't waste your time or money! read more

This little independently run shop just took a whole lot of stress off my shoulders. I needed a dress for the marine corps ball, which is tomorrow, and couldn't find anything in my size (16) that fit correctly at the major department stores. The lady on the phone instructed me to choose which dresses I liked and call back, and she would tell me if she had the dress in stock in my size. Well, she had one in stock in my size and it fit perfectly. Very simple, but elegant, I will be pairing it with some gorgeous Swarovski earrings and necklace. I am so pleased and impressed with their ability and willingness to accommodate me. I had my dress within the hour (I live in RSM down the street). Can't put a big enough thanks here!!! read more

I am a student and young mom so I can't usually afford dresses from here so when I saw the bogo sale I was so excited. I wanted to buy two specific dresses so I jumped on the sale. Little did I know there was a catch where you had to buy a dress full price but the free dress had to be from their clearance rack. I eventually found a second dress but when it shipped to me it didn't fit so I went in to exchange it and they wouldn't let me even get a different size. No returns or exchanges. I feel like the advertising was misleading and now I am stuck with a dress I didn't really want in the first place that I can't even wear. It's disappointing. Negative 5 stars. read more

Ok, this woman is well known as someone who takes advantage of Mormon brides who need their wedding dress to be less revealing than what is available in most bridal gown stores in area. She charges tons of money for dresses that end up having major problems, and then blames the brides! First off this business is in her home, which I didn't mind until I was treated like garbage after I gave her all my money. Didn't even walk me out the door. In a word...lackluster. Dress was beautiful but staff was unprofessional, unorganized, unfriendly and unresponsive. Paid for "rush" delivery in September only to receive the dress one week earlier than the original date late December. Unfortunate that a once in a lifetime event was clouded by the experience had at this "boutique". We chose not to have an additional fitting once we finally received the dress to avoid further delay as well as our comfort level with the competence of the staff. Dishonest, uncommunicative, and poorly managed. If I could give zero stars I would. My fiancée picked out her dress with this company and was in love with it - she had a great time during that part of the process! But the whole thing went downhill immediately. An employee informed her a few weeks later that the dress had arrived, that alterations had begun, and that they'd be in touch when it was ready for her to come back to try on & take home. Months later, she called the store back because she hadn't heard anything - turns out the dress had only recently arrived and alterations had not yet begun. They also wanted hundreds of dollars more for alterations then they'd previously stated.The owner abdicated all responsibility for the mixup, saying that it was not her responsibility to train her employees correctly. She claimed that they'd called and left a message (not true). Fiancée was fed up and asked to come pick up the dress so that she could take it somewhere else for alterations. She explicitly asked that the dress not be shipped, and that she be allowed to pick it up herself. The owner agreed, and a date was set. Less than a week before that day, fiancée received a tracking number and a notification that the dress was shipping to her house - COMPLETELY against her wishes and her explicit instructions that the dress not be shipped. The owner dodged calls from fiancee, and a friend had to call and ask about it. When the owner finally picked up the phone, she claimed that they'd called my fiancee and she'd given permission for it to be shipped (a LIE). I've never seen such an unprofessional small business. Never get a dress from this company. The owner is disorganized, doesn't take ownership of her business, and straight up lies to customers. It's been unbelievable watching what should be a happy, joyous part of getting married get turned into a stressful nightmare. read more

It was just the owner Donna, her assistant, and my mom in the room. It made for a VERY private experience. Once alterations were made, she even showed my matron of honor how to button and bustle my dress. The Dressy Occasion has a variety of wedding dresses. All of them are modest. I was able to find a dress that came with a lacy jacket to wear during the church ceremony. It blended in so well with my dress. I was able to take the jacket it off and replace it with straps for the reception. A handful of our guests thought I had two wedding dresses. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. read more

Five stars all the way!! We live in Arizona, and there is absolutely no place in the Phoenix area to buy a modest wedding dress, so we went looking on-line. My daughter found a dress she fell in love with on Donna's site. We were worried about buying a dress on-line that we couldn't try on first. My daughter was willing to take the chance and purchase the dress, without being able to try it on. We were amazed!! It fit almost perfectly! We were so excited!! Absolutely looked gorgeous on her. As far as working with Donna, she was also amazing! She even delivered the dress to us, as she was coming to the Phoenix area for a visit. I ordered a dress at the beginning of December, thinking I would receive it with 10 days. Enough time to receive it before leaving for vacation. It took A Dressy Occasion 10 days to package it and ship it to me. My post office received the dress on the 21st after I had left. The dress was of a lower quality than I had expected. When I reached out to them to receive a return acceptance number, they were unwilling to accept the return of the dress for a refund. Lesson learned don't do business with this company. More so than that, the scrappy way in which they try to make a buck is almost dishonest. After reading some of the reviews of A Dressy Occasion, I figured I needed to add a good voice. I just recently got a dress from Donna and I absolutely love it. The people who say that she nickels and dimes have probably never been dress shopping elsewhere. No matter where you go, you need to buy a slip, a special bra, a veil, etc. But there were several things that I already had and once I shared that with Donna she didn't push them on me. If you are looking for kiss-your-feet customer service, you won't get that here. But if A Dressy Occasion didn't exist, I would have had to either make serious alterations to any dress that I found in the Los Angeles area or I would have had to travel to Utah. Future brides, whatever you do, DO NOT get your dress from here. First off, the 'shop' is located inside a house in a gated neighborhood which was kind of odd but I still had a pleasant experience picking out my dress. However after that nothing went right. Do not believe anything the employees or owner say. No one is on the same page and the miscommunication is so prevalent and the owner will blame it all on you. My favorite quote from the owner from our heated conversation was, "it is not my fault my employees don't know what they are doing". Even though it is 100% the owners fault. The owner will talk over you the whole entire time and won't let you get a word in edge wise until you are so mad you are shouting at her. Then she blames it on you for not saying something even though you can tell she lacks active listening skills. The owner will also gaslight you like no other. She had the audacity to say "all you did was cuss me out", when I'm reality all I said was "this situation is a shitshow" (which it was. I was told one thing and then told another and the owner will not honor what her employees misinform you of). This lady made me feel like I was going crazy and even let me know how terrible of a person I (apparently) am. You can tell from just talking with her that she is a full blown narcissist and has never gained the necessary skills to be a business owner someone would actually like to be around. I have never met such an unintelligent, rude, gaslighting, narcissistic, and disorganized company in my entire life. The owner even went behind my back and against my wishes and shipped my dress to me even though I specifically told her not to do that. When I reminded her that I explicitly told her not to ship my dress she said, "you didn't explicitly tell me. I gave you the option to ship your dress and you said no." Any intelligent person would know that, that is explicitly telling someone not to do something. She took away the fun moment of picking up my dress along with taking a happy memory of picking out my dress with loved ones and turned it stressful and disheartening. I just pray that no other bride has to endure her disrespect during a time that should be so positive and special. There are many other places to get your dress where this will not happen. It is shocking to see the negative reviews here. My experience with A Dressy Occasion was an A+. After being frustrated at the lack of options for the modest bride, my choice was either going to Donna or driving to Utah for a dress. Her website is user-friendly, she responded back immediately, and her prices are competitive. People complain about her attitude. She isn't rude, but she is not going to coddle you. This a no-nonsense business run out of her home, not a fancy boutique with white sofas and champagne. She is providing a service by making modest wedding dresses available to Southern California--the ONLY place of its kind in the area. The dress I ended up choosing was the one I liked the best on the website. It arrived when she said it would. She does the altering herself and it was perfect. Between the dress, alterations, and undergarments, the price was still less than most boutiques. I'll admit it, though, I was an efficient bride and we worked really well together though our 3 appointments (picking the dress, pre and post alteration fittings.) If you want to be babied, desire a Kleinfeld experience, or are prone to tantrums...go somewhere else. read more

TERRIBLE experience. I needed a S/M and emailed customer service to see if they had one. Apparently they didn't because they first asked for my measurements and then recommended a M/L because 'the bust ran small'. When it was delivered, the dress was WAY TOO BIG, especially in the bust. Donna Anderson was unprofessional and not helpful- told me that it would be easy to take in the dress. So now I'm out $75 for a dress that doesn't fit and even more $ to get an expedited alteration. I came expecting a shop, but this is a business run out of Donna's home. Which is perfectly fine and seems to work, but it was kind of awkward when we pulled up and had no access code enter the gates because we weren't told that there WOULD be a gate...so we had to ask a security guard to let us in. Me and my party arrived late and were sat in the living room with no introduction while she finished with another bride. After waiting 15-20 minutes (totally understandable, I was late) we tried on the dresses and they were all absolutely gorgeous. I loved every one, and it really is hard to find modest, decently priced gowns! She was wonderful at her job and during that emotional moment when I finally found my wedding dress she was busy throwing jewelry, a veil, and shoes on me while my girls and I were getting teary eyed. She then plopped to the floor and started pinning the dress to hem. Later, while ringing up the order, we find out that she planned to (over) charge us for the bra, slip, shoes, and jewelry that I never said I wanted, on top of the dress. I really didn't like the shoes at all but was pressured into buying them because those were the shoes I was wearing when she pinned the dress. I was able to put my foot down against the jewelry and ended up getting everything else. We paid for half and she made it clear that nothing would be ordered untill she receieved the full payment. The next morning I was so upset that I now have to wear shoes I don't like on my wedding day, and called her to cancel, but she said that they had allready been ordered and it would be silly to buy other shoes now since the dress was pinned to their length...even though I just wanted to find shoes I actually liked with the same heel height. She also said multiple times that she had warned us before she started pinning the dress that I would be pretty much stuck with those shoes - which she absolutely didn't. If you go here, you will get a gorgeous dress and a not so pleasant sales-woman. I recommend bringing the slip, bra, and other under garments that will be worn with the dress, along with the shoes - that way the only thing she will be able to overcharge you for is the dress. read more

DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR BUSINESS. THEY ARE NEITHER COMPETENT NOR ARE THEY CUSTOMER FOCUSED. We recently ordered a dress from this establishment which my wife needed about 3 weeks from the date of purchase. It arrived no problem, but the dress didn't fit. So we sent it back promptly and had to receive a store credit. But they didn't have the different size that my wife needed in that dress. Further, none of the other dresses that my wife liked were available in her size. Given that, we asked for a refund, but they refused. They will not provide a refund under any circumstances. So my wife reluctantly ordered a different style she wasn't entirely happy with, so as to use the store credit. We had to return the dress that we first received, which we promptly did, before they would agree to send the new dress. Once they received the first dress they called my wife and informed her that the new dress was shipped. Six days later they called again telling us that the dress still hadn't shipped which was quite disappointing, frustrating and confusing. They said it was our responsibility to have called to reorder the new dress (which we believed we had done)! By this time, the date had nearly passed for which my wife needed the dress. At this point we asked for a refund or some recompense for their screw up. We spoke to Donna, the owner, who refused to give us a refund or make it right... No discount, no refund, no apology..no customer service. She essentially blamed us for the mishap. She said we had not "ordered the new dress nor paid for shipping"... completely dismissing what her employee had told us about the dress having already been shipped. We ended up having to pay to get the dress, as we had no other recourse. They are incompetent and definitely not focused on customer sat. I would give this woman zero stars if I could. Donna, the owner, is a dishonest woman who schemes for every dollar. Worse yet, she takes advantage of LDS (Mormon) clients with photos of the temple and other LDS relics all over her home, but she does not even live the basic LDS/Christian principles of honesty and kindness. I ordered a dress from her that took weeks to arrive, was way overpriced (most of her stuff is cheap and made in China), and it ended up not fitting. She refused to refund my money for the first dress even though I bought a more expensive dress to replace it. Finally she gave me a partial refund after I offered to resolve it in small claims court. I went to 'A Dressy Occasion' frustrated and disappointed with all other department and boutique stores and their selection of modest dresses.I didn't realize how impossible it is to find conservative, beautiful evening gowns. Thankfully I was able to find two dresses that I loved here. I even got a discount on one dress. Sadly, that dress also turned out to shed glitter all over; something I didn't realize until I had it at home and was vacuuming the room where it hung every day. Of course I was never able to wear it due to that reason. When I contacted the owner of A Dressy Occasion she refused to accept the dress as a return stating I had tried it on and gotten a discount on it so the sale was final. Despite the good selection of dresses I feel like I can't really recommend buying from this store anymore because the return policy is ridiculous. IMHO If a product is defective, you should always be able to get your money back. read more

First things first, READ THE REVIEWS!!! UPDATE: *Donna is refusing to refund a single dime to my mother, although her seamstress has since cut my dress into two pieces, and removed the beading on the bodice. I'm without my wedding dress now.* Donna, the owner, has been nothing but condescending and rude to both my mother and I. I purchased a wedding dress elsewhere, but I needed alterations done on the dress. We went to A Dressy Occasion because she was located close to my home. When we arrived, we learned that this business is run out of Donna's home. We were greeted by one of her workers who was so friendly and kind. She walked us up to the bedroom that Donna uses for fittings, and informed us that Donna would be a few minutes, as she was on a phone call. Once Donna got off the phone, she asked me to put the dress on so that she could see what we needed to have done to it. She then asked my bra size, and told me to change into a sample bra that she had there. I did as I was asked, and then we began discussing the alterations. We agreed that the top of the dress needed to be taken in, and she advised my mother and I that those alterations would range between $300 and $400. When we verbally agreed to that, she began pinning the bodice of the dress. We discussed details on the bodice of the dress only. When I asked Donna how much the skirt of the dress would cost to alter, she would only tell me that it would be less than the top. She never once gave any dollar amount, but said that we would discuss that once the top was altered. I was planning on having my dress made into 2 pieces so that I can replace the skirt on the dress after our beach wedding, so her quote of $300-$400 included removing the bodice from the skirt of the dress, and finishing the bottom so that it can be used with other skirts. I asked her if she had any two piece dresses, and she said yes! I was so excited to be able to see what this might look like. She took it off of a hanger and had me try it on. We asked her how much this skirt was, and she told us $150. She told us that she would need to have the sides taken in, and she then proceeded to pin the sides of the skirt to the correct size. I agreed to this skirt because it was the only one she had, and I figured if I found something else in the meantime, I could return it, since I didn't take delivery of it, and we weren't doing any alterations on the skirts until the top was done anyway. Once this was done, we were ready to leave, and my mother was ready to pay a deposit for the alterations. It was her understanding, that the $550 that she was paying for would cover just about all of the alterations, and that I would only have a very small balance to pay at the end. Donna took my mother's credit card info, and asked for her billing information. She added this information to her estimate, and then asked my mom to sign it confirming that her information was correct. She signed it, and we went on our way. Within the next few days, I realized that the additional skirt was NOT what I was looking for. I called Donna to let her know, and asked if there were any other skirts that she had that were more in-line with what I was hoping for. She said yes, and then she emailed me an image of the skirt, and I thought it was pretty but I would need to try it on first. She said she could bring it back from her store in AZ for me to try on. To be sure that we were on the same page, I mentioned applying the $150 for the other skirt to this dress, which she said would be $199. She then advised me that she does not do refunds or exchanges. This was news to me. She kept telling me that this was on the paperwork that we signed. She never said anything about final sales while we were in her home. The paperwork that she asked my mother to sign, was to confirm her personal information. I finally got ahold of the paperwork that she had my mom sign, and Donna had increased the cost of altering the bodice to $450, added a $350 charge to alter the skirt of the dress, and added an additional $85 to alter the additional skirt. She has since offered to reduce the alterations on the top to $400, and the alterations on the skirt to $240. She is now also offering to allow me to exchange the skirt for the one I have yet to try on, and that I will have to pay the difference. However, I don't want to do business with this woman anymore. This is my wedding dress, and I don't trust her. When I spoke to Donna over the phone, she said that if I don't want to work with her, then she doesn't want to work with me, and that I can pick up the dress. I asked what she would do about the deposit, and she told me that she doesn't know what to tell me, because she doesn't do refunds. There is absolutely ZERO customer service once this woman has your money. read more

I didn't have to make a road trip to Trabucco Canyon to reclaim our dress. Apparently the bride interested in that particular dress/color/size bought it, but I had to wait a couple of weeks before her credit card charge would be funded. ?? I don't understand it, but oh well. I kept calling and calling to communicate with Donna on the status of the sale. I kept a written log of dates times and our conversations. A check was issued and sent 2 weeks later which was quickly cashed. This is a business we will avoid and share the negative reviews posted with others. I would not recommend this boutique at all... its hardly a boutique. She runs her shop out of her lounge at home. The dressing room is a messy spare bedroom!! I went to her because she was pretty much the only boutique in Orange County who stocked the Allure Bridesmaid collection. What a shocking experience it has been! Here's what happened... Upon arrival I was impressed with the Allure dresses and proceeded to go through them picking out a few for my MOH to try on. They fit beautifully and the quality was good. To this point the owner was helpful but seemed to across a little stuck up. After 6 hours of shopping that day we found 2 dresses we LOVED and expressed the desire to purchase them. She gave us the prices which were very reasonable to the rest of the boutiques we went to. We then looked through the swatch book to try and find a match for the swatch I brought in. I found her very opinionated and pushy when it came to the color selection. I felt I didn't get a chance to actually properly look at the swatch book to get an idea for myself. Instead she kept on saying it was this specific color and to me, being a designer, I thought it was darker than my swatch and wasn't quite what I was looking for... but I went along with it bcos I'm not an aggressive person. I planned to come back with my MOH with a pair of spanks so she could try on the tighter dress style again... so I thought I'd have more time to look at the swatch book before ordering the dresses. So we told her that we intended on ordering the dresses but had to check with my mom and other bridesmaids first to see if they liked the dress. Despite how I was beginning to feel about A Dressy Occasion I referred a friend because she was looking for bridesmaid dresses too - and she liked the Allure collection. Now my friend has 9 bridesmaids... so the owner would have got a potential order of 9 dresses through me... plus my 4. Sooo....After a few days I emailed her asking for a breakdown of costs so I could relay the message back to my bridesmaids. Her reply shocked me... she was saying I had to pay for shipping on top of the dress price... and it wasn't a flat rate shipping - it was a per dress shipping cost. I had two problems with this: 1. Every other boutique I've been to or have had experience with does not charge a shipping cost at check out. ESPECIALLY when it's not shipped to your home. The dresses HAD to be shipped back to her boutique. Now this should be a normal business cost. Now I couldn't understand why she didn't mention this the day we saw her. 2. If u insist on a shipping rate then build it into the dress price that you tell ur customers about that come to the store. Also, she should have a flat rate for shipping and not charge per dress because it should come in one package. Her response to my questioning about this matter was a little uptight... but she went on saying how she had to pay for the dresses to get back to the boutique... well lady... u need to factor that into the dress cost or tell the customer about ALL the costs when they ask about pricing when u see them. So once we had gone back and forth with email discussing the shipping mix up I then asked her if I could come back and look through the swatch book again bcos I was very unsure about the color we had seen before - and the color she suggested looked SOOO dark online. SO while my bridesmaids were deciding whether or not the style and price was right... I thought I could go past there during lunch one day to look through the swatch book to put my mind at ease. All brides stress - and it was unnecessary for me to stress if I could go back up there to look. I get this email back saying I cant come back to look at the swatch book now.... that only when I've heard from my bridesmaids and I'm ready to order the dresses from her I can come back and look through the swatch book. Needless to say I found this cheeky and very rude ESPECIALLY after I had referred a friend to her with a large potential order. The least she could have done was let me come and look at the swatch book. I put up with her nonsense for longer than I should have because there aren't too many boutiques that stock the Allure Bridesmaid collection and I was pretty set on this one style. Everything I've done so far has been a pleasant experience. So Id tell ALLLL brides to avoid this boutique at all costs. I really like the no pressure style of shopping here. I've brought my daughter a few times and she is able to try on so many cute and pretty dresses and find styles that flatter her. Donna and her staff are helpful and very pleasant despite being busy in a stressful industry. I can only imagine how stressful this business can be at times. But, we are grateful to have such a business to support (and so close to us!) and we feel like we get really quality dresses that we could not find easily elsewhere in SoCal and they are even at fair prices. This business is run from a home. There is a room full of racks of dresses and a nice room to try them on in. I know I could trust Donna and her staff with a wedding dress and alterations as well! I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Donna and A Dressy Occasion. Without them, my daughter's wedding couldn't have been "pulled off." They willingly altered my daughter's wedding dress which we'd purchased before coming to LA. We did purchase beautiful invitations, bridesmaids' and mother's dresses here. After a discouraging weight loss program, my dress did not fit and we were not arriving in LA until 3 days before the wedding. Donna reassured me "Not to worry. We'll make it work." They then OVERNIGHT essentially created a dress for me that was absolutely perfect. No, I would not consider it just excellent customer service, but SUPREME customer service. I went to A Dressy Occasion looking for a modest wedding dress. I didn't think to look up reviews before I went, but I wish I would have. I can confirm all the negative reviews here are totally valid. If I could do it all over again I would have just gone to a David's Bridal or something because anything would have been a better (and less expensive) experience than the one I had. I spent an outrageous price ($1,000+) on a dress that I ended up not being happy with. I felt rushed and pressured during my visits and was treated with poor customer service. Having moved away from home to go to school, I was in the area by myself so I did not have my mother, sister, or bridesmaids to come with me during all except my first visit and because I am not a pushy person, I feel I was taken advantage of. One of the times I arrived for an appointment, I had to wait 15-20 minutes while Donna finished up a (non business related) phone call. I found this to be rude because I had made an appointment and showed up on time, so I should not have been kept waiting. When it came time for the first fitting, I tried the dress on and Donna made suggestions about what alterations needed to be made. I am short so I knew the dress would need to be hemmed, but other than that I thought it looked pretty good. Donna suggested it seemed a little too tight in certain areas and recommended it be let out in several areas. Being naive and assuming she knew what she was talking about, I agreed to the suggested alterations. When I came in for the second fitting, I was swimming in the dress!! I had at least an inch of room on every side and instead of taking the blame for their mistake they tried to convince me that I had somehow lost a lot of weight and that is why the dress didn't fit right (I had been going to the gym occasionally - but NONE of my other clothes were loose on me and I would have known if I lost THAT much weight!!). They then proceeded to make the adjustments to take in the dress. When I tried on the final product (there was no time left for further alterations because my wedding day was approaching) I was very disappointed. What had started out as a beautiful gown had been altered to an ill fitting awkward dress with pointy boobs. And the cherry on top was that I was charged for every single alteration individually! I assumed that there would be one flat rate alteration fee, but no, the hemming and each area that they let out or took in was a separate charge! If I had been informed of this in the beginning I never would have agreed to all the nonsensical adjustments they made to my dress and I would have still had a beautiful gown to wear on my wedding day. Being alone and not knowing how to confront them, I was shooed out of her house with my wedding dress and I burst into tears the second I arrived at my car. My dad found out about what happened and called Donna but she refused to refund any of the alteration fees and I never received as much as an apology from her. It was the most terrible experience I have ever had and I wish I would have just gone somewhere else for a dress. It really ruined a huge part of what should have been one of the happiest days of my life. Every time I look at my wedding photos, I can't help but remember how upset and frustrated I was with my dress my wedding day was permanently tainted. read more

I had a really great experience with Donna at Dressy Occasion. I was initially thrown of, I didn't expect the shop to be in her home. However, I was pleasantly surprised that she had a huge selection of modest dressed to pick from and it was so nice to have her attention all to myself. I described what I was looking for and she pulled everything in her inventory that she felt like suited my needs. I probably tried on 6 or 7 different dresses and settled on the second dress that I had tried on. I also purchased a veil, slip, sash, and paid for alterations at the time of purchase. I found her prices to be very reasonable (for a bridal shop) and that they compared to every other shop that sell the same brands. I had an unexpected complication arise when my mom who lives in Utah had already found someone to do alterations. She was very sad and disappointed that if I went ahead with the alterations in California, she wouldn't be able to be a part of my dress buying experience at all. I called Donna and explained the situation and asked her if I could take the dress with me instead of having fittings and alterations done through her. She was very nice and understanding about it. She was even willing to refund the money I had paid towards alterations and only charged me a small fee. I felt like that was very reasonable since I was the one that made a non-refundable purchase/decision. It was VERY KIND of her to sympathize with my situation and help me out even though she had no legal or professional obligation to do so. Thank you for helping me find my dress! I wish I could give them 10 stars based on their flexibility. I had a disaster happen with my first wedding dress from a store in Utah where a tailor made it unwearable. 5 DAYS before my wedding, by a miracle I was lead to this vendor. They took one look at my old dress, instantly got an idea of what my style was and pulled the perfect gown for me. They zipped it up, it fit outstandingly, and I walked out of there with a veil, a headband, and a dress 10x better than my first one. Also I came back two days later to buy a hoop skirt, and it was too long, so they busted out their sewing machine and hemmed it up for me in less than 5 minutes. I bought my wedding dress 2 1/2months before I was getting married, alterations, fittings, and final alterations and steaming were done perfectly. I had my dress plenty of time before my big day, not to mention a week before for bridals. Trust me, I'm the most picky when it comes to dresses, and I highly recommend A dressy Occasion for everyone. Donna's team are the most happy, easy going, efficient, most easy people to work with!!!!! They even cleaned my dress after my wedding day so I could store it clean. My two daughters both purchased their beautiful wedding gowns at A Dressy Occasion. The selection was large and the staff was kind and patient and extremely helpful. Imagine our surprise at seeing racks of all different modest gowns instead of the 2 or 3 that other stores carry, And this is a boutique that really understands the concept of customer service, calling us with updates and information, reminding us about appointments and giving us advice and referrals. My daughters never felt rushed, whether they were trying on gowns, having their fittings or trying on their perfectly fitted gowns one last time before taking them home. Who knew that buying wedding gowns could be so stress-free and joyful! I have recommended A Dressy Occasion to many many friends, in and out of state. I wish there was an option for 0 stars. We went into the shop and Donna treated us like we were a burden to her. As I tried on dresses and asked questions about how we could alter the dresses her response was rude and she seemed annoyed with anything we said. Some of my friends have heard about her shop but not heard the reviews. I am quick to inform them of how miserable she is. Her assistant complimented me a few times while I was in the same dress and she said to her "we get it. Stop saying that". Rude. If you are looking for a modest dress you are better off adding sleeves to one you like. For an in home shop you would expect a more kind and patient owner. read more

This business is for "modest" formals and wedding gowns. This woman also sells shoes. She is rude, has no customer service. She made me feel like a bad person for changing my mind on the shoes constantly throwing out heavy sighs, and little comments. Everyone is entitled to change their mind and when i did, she refused to work with me, and lead me to believe i would get a refund on our latest phone call. After checking my email 2 hours later she said she refused to give me a refund and could only go through her with the credit i had towards the shoes. I paid her $140 towards a $150 pair of shoes that she told me would originally cost $120. After arguing it out we decided i would purchase a $95 pair of shoes. when the shoe arrived not only was it to small (i had tried on a pair the same size before purchase but they apparently run small) she not only kept the balance for herself, but she refused to return them unless i paid another $25. I'M ANNOYED BECAUSE THIS WOMAN IS THE ONLY THING THAT HAS GONE WRONG WITH MY WEDDING PLANNING. Along with others who have left reviews, I didn't read reviews for "Dressy Occasion" before dong business with them and I wish I would have. I tried on wedding dresses at Dressy Occasion and had a good experience with all of the employees but this was not the case when I worked directly with Donna, the owner. I found a dress here that I loved but ended up buying the same one in Idaho for a much cheaper price. Because I live in California I decided to get my alterations done at Dressy Occasion. I met with Donna to discuss what alterations needed to be done. Each time I would ask her about prices she would never give me a direct answer and would be very vague. Besides all of the normal alterations, I requested that she add extra lace to the sleeves. I asked how much the alterations would be for the sleeves and she wouldn't tell me and said she would have to talk to her seamstress. I understand that certain alterations you can't calculate the price until you've looked at and sometimes started on the dress but Donna wouldn't even give me a ballpark figure for the cost. Donna requires that you pay upfront before they start on alterations so I did, and was shocked to see that the regular alterations (alterations to the sleeves not included yet) were going to be nearly the half of what it had cost me to buy the dress. I left the dress with Donna on a Saturday late afternoon. I would be moving from California soon and was worried that Donna wouldn't get my dress done in time and so the next day, Sunday, I found an independent seamstress in southern California who would do the same alterations for me for half the price that Donna was charging and she did give me a ballpark figure for the sleeve alterations. So, feeling much better about working with this other lady, I called Donna first thing Monday morning (before they probably would have started working on my dress) to tell her that I wanted my dress back. She told me that she had dropped off my dress and her seamstress had already started working on it. I told her that I needed alterations done before the date she said she would have it done and that I would pay her for what ever alterations had already been done but that I expected her to have alterations stopped immediately and that I would come by to pick up my dress. She refused to give me back my dress and said that she couldn't have her seamstress stop once alterations had begun. I asked her to give me the name and phone number of her seamstress so that I could call and ask what alterations had already been done and request that she stop working on my dress. Donna refused to give me any information about her seamstress and said that their policy is that once alterations are started they don't give back the dress until they are done. You need to know that Donna does NOT have a formal contract written up. At the bottom of the receipt that you sign with all of the charges, all that is says is "We do not issue refunds on any special orders or in-stock dresses. Deposit are nonrefundable. The cost of alterations is not included in the price of the dress and is an estimate." It says absolutely nothing about them being able to keep the dress until all alterations are completed. I spoke with my lawyer and legally she had no right to keep my dress from me and especially no right to refrain from telling me where my dress was taken for alterations. I would have paid for any alterations that had already been done but I had every right to demand that she give me my dress back at any time which she refused to do. I also told her that I needed my dress done sooner so she said that she would get it done in 2 weeks but would charge me a rush fee. I could have gone to her home and demanded she give me my dress back but by this point of dealing with her I was afraid that she would call her seamstress and tell her to do as much work on the dress as possible before I came so that she could charge me as much as possible. So, I decided to pay the rush fee and just get the dress alterations done and over with because I was pressed for time. The whole time I spent interacting with Donna I always felt that she was avoiding being upfront with me on a lot of things. When I asked for my dress back she was rude and acted like I was completely wrong for making such a request when I had every right to, especially since she has no legal contract stating that she can keep the dress until alterations are complete. She did get the alterations done in time and I was satisfied with the work that was done. She does have a nice selection of modest dresses but if you don't want to pay for expensive alterations I suggest that you look elsewhere. After dealing with Donna I spoke with other seamstresses in California that have much lower prices and they didn't hesitate to give me a ballpark figure for any of their alterations. My overall experience was a negative one which I wish I would have avoided. read more

I called this store in order to see if they carried a dress I had found online. This store came up as one of the stores that carries this dress. I live in California, but hours away from this store. I called and spoke to some woman, I wish I knew her name because they really need to talk to her about her customer service skills. They did not carry the dress. They offer me the "opportunity" to get a sample sent to the store, but that I would have to pay 75$ for this. I'm like really? I'm going to pay for a sample to be sent to your store so I can try on because you don't carry it? I politely declined, but asked for the price of the dress. She then asked me for my budget. I told her that all I want to know how much the dress runs for. She would not tell me and kept on asking for my budget. This was really rude of her. I felt like the price of the dress would have depended on what I would have told her my budget was. Other than this, she just sounded really bitter person who should not be working at a bridal store. Aside from the rude questioning, her tone of voice was not welcoming and she sounded annoyed by me. Will not call again and I don't recommend. read more
