I recently had to have one of my cats put to sleep. Dr. Guazo and her staff were caring and compassionate. They let us have a few minutes with the cat before the procedure. After the cat was gone they have us as much time as we needed to say goodbye. Dr. Guazo had to shave some of his hair off his leg. She gave us the hair in a little square box to keep. A few days later we received a very nice sympathy card in the mail signed by everyone there along with a hand written note. As I said earlier, they were compassionate and caring, and also very sympathetic. I cannot recommend A Cat's Place highly enough. read more

Always had a cat or two growing up but haven't owned one in well over 25 years. As life happens I found myself caring for and eventually adopting my mothers cat "Chance" who she no longer could care for and shortly after adopting "Pockey" who's mom was looking to re-home. Well now I need a veterinary close by who I can trust! I went to one that may or may not have Airport in its name and it was traumatic for a number of reasons. Thankfully I found Dr. Guazzo and her staff and couldn't be happier. She is kind and takes time to answer my questions and even if I email her some weird abstract question she always answers me in a well thought out response. I so appreciate her kindness and clear love for animals and her calming effect on me especially when it comes to my nervous reactions and outbursts. i would recommend her to anyone with a fur baby. :) read more

This place has taken on way too many patients, I have 3 purebred cats which I take extremely good care of and this doctors office has become so hard to get an appointment when you actually need one on demand. The the local emergency hospital closed so I would have to drive to Gardian which is what I've had to do several times as of late because one of my cats has asthma and it's always something with him. But as our Vet you would think they would care when you call and say your cat is having an issue you would hope they would try to squeeze you in with in the week. The girl that answers the phone actually couldn't care less. After this last incident I called them back and asked them to forward me all my cats records and that I will be changing vets. She had a snappy response, and could not have cared less she didn't not even say goodbye just said I'll send that out now. So GOOD BYE. read more

I can't say enough about Dr. Guazzo and her wonderful staff. Been coming here for 20 plus years and I 100 percent trust her and her staff with the care of my cats. She is non judgemental doesn't pressure you for unnecessary procedures and I love how she is honest and is truly interested in the best for your cat instead of the almighty dollar. Her prices are very reasonable. She is not a clinic so expect to pay for her impeccable knowledgeable services which in my opinion are better than other Vets around our area. This is not a Charity. I started taking one of my cats to Dr Guazzo, even though it meant driving an hour, because my cat had an extreme fear of and hostility to vets. My kitty had always been sickly and for the last 4 years of her life had had many uncomfortable treatments, especially shots, which made her attack vets. She was now on oral steroids, which at least avoided shots, but seemed in distress. Someone recommended Dr Guazzo. Dr Guazzo found she had cancer. She said that treatment would mean removing her jaw. Dr Guazzo understood when I said rather than put her through more after these painful years, I wanted to finally make her comfortable for as much time as possible. Dr Guazzo prescribed a daily low dose of oral painkiller, which made my cat her lively old self again, and monitored her and slowly increased the steroids and painkillers, just enough to control her symptoms. My cat was lively and free of pain again for months. It was such a relief after all the bad years. Eventually Dr Guazzo said we were at the point where increasing the dosage would make her groggy all the time, or we could stay at the current dose but not control her pain. I really felt throughout that it was always my decision and Dr Guazzo would agree to maximum treatment or palliative care, whichever I wanted, although telling me clearly the pros and cons. I wanted no more painful days for my kitty, so Dr Guazzo recommended a wonderful vet (Dr Viano) who would put my cat to sleep at my home. I'm so grateful to Dr Guazzo for making my kitty's life, that had been uncomfortable and scary for years, comfortable and peaceful during her final year. read more

These people, Dr. Guazzo, office staff, are the BEST in the area. If you have a rabbit, they are just as knowledgeable about care, just as compassionate. We had to make decision not to prolong our beloved Arthur's life, and they let me take so much time saying goodbye and letting him pass without pain. We lived in Westchester for many years and were very happy with the care our cat(s) had received at the local vet. However, after moving to Dutchess, we knew the distance to travel by car to the vet would be too stressful for our kitty. We looked around for a good vet/doctor in the Fishkill area. We are extremely satisfied with 'A Cats Place'! The veterinary practice we left was good but it was a large practice, serving a large population and thus a bit impersonal. Dr. Guazzo and the staff are very professional, knowledgable, courteous and attentive to the our needs, as well as the needs of our cat. I was especially impressed with the number of follow-up calls from the doctor herself asking how our kitty has taken to medications or recommended treatments. Dr. Redden and Dr. Guazzo (more so Dr. Guazzo since my lil Holmesy has gotten a lot of treatment from her!) are by far the best Vets in the Hudson Valley. Wonderful, compassionate and so extraordinary, they care as much about your pets as you do! When my lil guy had bladder stones and had to get a cystotomy, they let me come in and visit before they opened and before his procedure so I could wish him luck and give him a kiss. The staff there are ALL sweethearts and all remember my lil guy even tho he doesn't go there that often. He had a bladder infection around Christmas and one of the vet techs looked at him and said, "I thought you and I had a talk and you weren't going to come back here and be sick!" They always save the day and help him out - just great people. The Animal Hospital in Wappingers would rather put an animal down than help them and it seems like at A Cat's place, they will try everything and ANYTHING to help your pet live a long and healthy life. I thank God that I found them - I don't know if I'd still have my amazing little guy with me today if I didn't. read more

Word has traveled fast and wide how terrible this place is. My 9 year old nephew had been taking care of a stray cat. With no signs of an owner, he eventually adopted him and cared for him for 5 months. He and his mom took the cat, Dr. Whiskers, to this location to be spayed and examined. Without ANY consideration or gentleness, they took the kitty from him saying it had a micro chip. The issue is not that the cat needed to be returned to the owner but rather the heartless way they handled it. No gentleness, no understanding of the boy's attachment to a cat he loved. My nephew cried without stopping as they told him he should've known there was an owner and treated him and his mom like catnappers. Shameful! read more

Aug. 26 2016 My Smokey was examined by Dr. Guazzo for insightly bumps on her gums and lips. I was dreading bad news. Thankfully not life threatening , Examination was gentle and outstanding, she explained what the the diagnois was in detail..Dr. Guazzo was so patient with me, I just lost my cali T who was 19 yrs. old and so dreading Smokey would be next. She will follow up in two weeks. I have had changed many vets here in Dutchess county, they charge too much, seem unconcerning, and no epathy whatsoever. Dr. Guazzo is NONE of that.
