When our central A/C went out, we were notified that RATS had chewed through the wiring in the attic. Before the repairmen would fix it, we had to get pest control out PRONTO. We live in Lockhart and so fortunately, found Michael and A Bug Genie Pest Control through this website. Uhland is not very far from us so I gave him a call and Michael met me the next day at our house. I found him to be prompt, courteous and certainly very knowledgeable.
In giving me an estimate, we walked the perimeter of the house and he showed me all the access points that rats could get into the attic. Some of these places weren't visible unless you knew where to look for them. Our old house has several gable vents and even though these had hardware cloth behind them, the type originally installed allowed for large holes that the rats could easily climb through. Michael stated that these vents were in need of cloth replacement. Also he directed my attention to some soffits that had been damaged by rodents as well and they would either need to be replaced or repaired.
With this information, it was easily assessed that this was a much bigger job than just setting some traps. This is where MIchael's skills became invaluable because he had experience in all of the above. There was no need to call a carpenter for additional repairs. (BONUS!)
After giving us (what we decided was) a very reasonable price for what the job would entail, Michael came out and, with an assistant, set up traps and made the aforementioned repairs. (Note: he provided the materials and included them in the pricing). They were here for about 4 or 5 hours and then he said he would be back to check on the traps in a day or so.
The 1st check - no rats, the 2nd check - one HUGE NYC-sized rat, the 3rd check - no rats so Michael felt that most likely, the problem was solved. He believed that the other rats had made a run for it and if they did come back, were blocked by the repairs.
He stressed the point that IF this did not fix the problem, that he would come back (at no charge) and set traps again; thereby, guaranteeing his work. Fortunately there was no need for that and we only saw MIchael once more when he came by and checked on the soffit that the A/C guys had removed to install new wiring. Michael wanted to make sure that the soffit was secure again.
So in conclusion, this was a great experience and I highly recommend Michael for your pest control needs. We felt that, for what this extermination required, he was very reasonably priced and knew exactly how to solve our specific rodent problem.
We would definitely hire him again.
UPDATE: We DID hire him again!! Not too long after he fixed our rat problem, we found a large colony of AFRICANIZED BEES in our cedar tree. I called Michael and he confirmed that he dealt with bees too. He came over the next day and, after giving us another reasonable estimate, put on his bee suit and went to work. The bee colony was history within a couple of hours with no damage to our beautiful tree.
