So we drive by this all the time when we're gone or coming back from big Bear. Every time we drive by the wife and I remember how great A&W was. We share our memories and things like that. Well today, the grandkids were in the car coming back with us. And we had to stop to give them an A&W experience. Well, the carhops aren't there anymore or the glass mugs but we did go through drive-through. They were pretty busy on Saturday at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. We waited in the drive-through before being greeted by an extremely friendly employee. He was very polite, took our order did suggestive selling everything that an employer would want their employee to do. It was a little bit of a wait to get to the window, but it's understandable when the first thing out of their mouth is what can I make fresh for you today. When we got to the window, our primary order was root beer floats. The same order taker that took our money gave us our order. He was still very polite and made sure we had everything we needed. The first thing I noted is they use soft serve ice cream now with the root beer floats and some of you reading. This are probably saying come on grandpa hand scooped ice cream went out years ago. I'm happy to report the root beer floats were very good even with the soft serve ice cream. The grandkids love them. We love them and we will be stopping more often as we drive down. If you're ever coming from big Bear, we're going to big Bear and you get into Mentone I think it is, I highly recommend just stopping to A&W grab yourself something to eat and one of the famous root beer floats. read more

We traveled from Hemet to try out this A & W Root Beer and we are so glad we did! We ordered a triple cheeseburger combo with French fries plus a BLT sandwich and a medium root beer float. The burger was flavorful, cheese melted just right, and it came just as we ordered (no lettuce or onions). The fries were hot and crispy with a hint of seasoning that made them perfect! With BLT sandwiches, sometimes the lettuce is the "main event", but not here! Tons of crispy bacon with shredded lettuce and sliced tomatoes on an "inverted" bun so the toasted side was outside - what a great idea! The float was sooooo good! Their soft serve ice cream is so yummy, and the float brought back childhood memories of summer. On top of the great food, we arrived around 1:30 so at the tail end of the lunch rush. They were pretty busy with a large group on the patio and 7 tables filled inside plus steady drive thru traffic. Our food came out within about 6 minutes from ordering it! The restaurant was clean, had plenty of seating inside and out, and they had some nice low-key music playing. We will be back for sure!! And I highly recommend you try them!! read more

Nice there's an A&W on my way back from Vegas that isn't crazy out of the way. Simple menu with root beer being the star of the show. They have it on tap. I had a simple burger combo meal. Not a bad spot and a unique food option not too widespread in California read more

Would a nostalgic experience! I remember eating here when I was a child, Food was still as delicious as it was back, then, and even though I don't like root beer now, according to my family roof, it was delicious! It was exciting to be able to pour it from the tap! Service was amazing, and the place was clean and a nice place to stop after coming down from the mountain read more

Awesome service, friendly, welcoming. The new flags really help you spot it. Indoor or Outdoor patio seating area and drive thru location. When you want a good root beer that's just right come here for. A healthy helping. Get it in a float, shake or with a shot of coffee. If root beer isn't ur thing they have food items to get a fill. It's an old school kinda place a local stop for some classic finds. read more

Well my husband and I took our daughter and grandkids here Saturday evening .. wow, don't think we will be returning for a while.. Spending $80 for 4 adults and 2 kids on just burgers and chicken stripe was way to much for us.. food was so so, but not worth $80 read more

A&W staff, please don't sell any more veggie burgers from this batch. I felt ill after finishing my lunch then threw up everything a couple hours later. So disappointed. My son was unaffected but i am the only one who ate a veggie burger. Pretty sure it was that item because the veggie burger tasted off from the get go and I eat veggie burgers regularly. :( read more

First experience was a good one, fast service & fresh order. Clean restaurant, cool a/c considering the ridiculous heat in the area. Had the double cheeseburger & it was delicious, better than Burger King in my opinion especially the onion rings. A little pricey but no regrets. read more

I cannot believe I'm giving this place a 5 star review!!! But yall - if I ever eat fast food, it will be here! What enticed me was a root beer float! Then I noticed they had fried shrimp, and I love fried shrimp! So I just ended up ordering a fried shrimp combo with onion rings & a large root beer float! I ate soooo good! The shrimp & onion rings were perfectly golden, not over cooked at all. The cocktail & tartar sauce were also surprisingly great! On top of good food, we received great customer service! The gentleman at the drive thru was patient & kind to us. We didn't go inside, but the fast food chain stands alone and looks pretty run down. I live 1.5 hrs away, but I'm willing up make the drive. It was delicious!! read more

Just happen to stop here while coming back from a trip. You don't often see A&W Restaurants unless you're out of the city and on a trip. This place is open 24 hours which is nice if you're in the area. They have a nice outside eating area and the interior is nice and clean. Service was good and their menu selection is typical American burgers, fries, etc. I stopped by mainly because of their root beer float. There's something about the ice cream they use with their original A&W Root Beer! It may be even better because it comes out of a tap versus a can. Either way, it's a great dessert or snack. Since it's hard to find an A&W Restaurant, I recommend stopping by to grab a root beer float and enjoy! read more

First and foremost, don't come here expecting gourmet meals. They do the basics, but they do them well. The chicken sliders were lightly breaded. The chicken was juicy, and delicious. The fries were your basic yummy fries. I did order the root beer float, which brought back childhood memories of when the "carhop" would skate to your parked car, tray in hand, with your food and drinks. The taste was the same, even decades later. Such a yummy treat. The facility itself was clean, and has ample seating, both inside and out. Music was playing in the background, and the full allotment of customers were enjoying their late lunch. The energy was nice. The service exceeded my expectations. Very friendly. I'll most definitely return, and continue to sample the rest of their offerings. Enjoy read more

I appreciate A&W for their rootbeer floats and stop here occasionally for the treat. Their rootbeer from tap is good. They sell cans of it too. Their food is basic fast food, nothing to write about. It's just ok and you can get burgers, hot dogs, fries, chicken tenders, corn dogs, soft serve ice cream, etc. On our last visit we noticed their Prices are much higher now. But that is our economy I believe. read more

I have never written a review for any Fast Food restaraunt , but the crew that works at THIS A&W really are amazing . Stopped on way back from Big Bear twice, and each time the front order staff are smiling, happy, and take the time to explain the menu. They redid an order for us that frankly was our fault for the incorrect order, but they cooked what we wanted super quickly with no drama . Food is great, hot, and the place is pretty clean. A must stop if in the area! read more

Super clean! There are new owners and a LOT of effort being put into this place. The booth area has all been re-done in the classic colors. The gentleman at the counter was incredibly patient while I was painstakingly reading the menu. He pointed out their "hometown menu"...sandwiches that locals have requested and they added them to the menu Chili dog, cheese curds, and a classic root beer float served in a frosty mug! Omg! This is the last A & W in Southern California. Run, don't walk. Go inside, enjoy your meal. Support locally owned businesses!!! Drive thru is Open 24 hrs - but not sure if the dining room is? read more

I love this place! Best part has got to be that it's open 24/7 !! Food is, ...well, ok. As expected. My absolute favorite thing here is a sweet treat, something called a ROOT BEER FREEZE. I have never heard of anything like it anywhere. It's vanilla ice cream blended with root beer--and it sounds so simple, but trust me, it's so amazing!! Very friendly staff, a real neighborhood vibe to it. Check it out on the way up to Big Bear. read more

Haven't had an A&W rootbeer float in a long while and this one was very satisfying! The large was truly large and the ratio of ice cream to root beer was just right. Service was friendly and very quick, and inside was clean and bright. We didn't get food this time but some friends did and the onion rings looked really good - nice and crisp! It's good to see a nice A&W around and the floats are still great! read more

Drive thru open 24/7 and inside seating at the diner closes at 10 pm. They have 4 large tables outside to eat your food. I Came through here around 1030 so the diner was closed unfortunately but I got to enjoy my food outside at the tables with the A&W mascot "Rooty" the Great Root Bear! The new French onion double cheeseburger was very fresh and tasty and I paired that with a Reese's Polar Swirl which was good alongside the chili cheese fries. I have to say the Reese's Ice cream and the chili cheese fries Tasted very similar to Weinerschnitzels but more fresh to say. I did wait about 10 minutes at the drive thru and being the only order there but it was very hot and fresh and the customer service was great! read more

This place is a blast from my past. I haven't been to a real A&W since the 90's back in Michigan. I drove 45 minutes to check this place out. The food was what you expected from A&W. Hot and ready ooey gooey goodness with chile and cheese. Service was fast and with a smile. And they didn't even forget to offer the frosted mugs for our root bear floats The interior was surprisingly clean given the neighboring area. Plenty of outside seating as well Oh and did I mention they are open 24 hours!!!! Well they are. Quick tip: bathroom is located outside so you'll have to ask for a code to get in. The food was great and place was clean the staff were ok too the only thing is that they should explain more that the upgrade to floats glass mug were not meant to be kept bcuz he made it seem as if we could them... two large mugs and one regular mug came out to $50 and our food (three burgers, one hot dog, chili fries) $69 so coming to this place from LB will have to be once in a great while... food is pricy but food was good read more

Late night gem! Very happy to find this A&W restaurant. Not only for the nostalgic feeling but for those late night cravings. There are a few places opened past 10pm , and even less that are open 24 hour in this area . A&W is true to All American food . My food was very fresh and hot, no one likes cold food. I was looking forward to dining inside but unfortunately missed the chance since they close the inside dining at 10pm. Outdoor dining area is available so after ordering my food through drive thru, I enjoyed my chili cheese fries and Reese's polar swirl on the outdoor tables alongside Rooty the Great Root Bear , A&W's beloved mascot! This is a very quiet area located on a major intersection (mentone Blvd ) so you can't miss it . Place looks very clean and maintained! Although I had a longer than usual wait time for my food I was please to know my food was cooked to order and staff is very welcoming. Their menu has many classic items , you will find something for everyone. Drinks, dessert, burgers, chicken and more . A must try is their made fresh in store Root Beer. Portions are not huge but fair. Plenty of parking available to dine in your car too. I will definitely be returning to visit my new made friend Rooty ! read more

Sometimes you have to go old-school and get an A & W Root Beer (now A & W Restaurant). Growing up I had very fond memories of Root Beer floats at these restaurants (sometimes more like soda stand versus a restaurant - but it was another era ....). Today it was hot, and the Root Beer Sassafras flavor was calling me. So I had a Root Beer Cream Freeze. Their saying is that it "Sips like a shake. Tastes like a float." That's basically true - I think it's more vanilla ice cream than Root Beer, but still has the flavor without the carbonation. It didn't miss the mark - it's quite refreshing. Not to leave well enough alone, I had the Coney Cheese Dog. You'll need the container or the fork to eat this. The bun didn't hold up very well with the chili and cheese sauce. The cheese sauce was a disappointment - marginal flavoring. The chili was better than expected but a bit salty. But the hot dog, by itself, was fairly decent - too bad it was masked by all the other flavors. Its casing had a nice snap to each bite, and the dog had the distinctive beefy, rich flavor. To shave a few calories, you can still get that Root Beer flavor with the ice cream mixes by requesting diet Root Beer. read more
