Had a front differential issue with my daughters AWD car. Went to another chain and had major problems with communication. Explained situation to intake person Kory, and worked on differential fluid change. Problem persisted and we had to order new transmission ($4000) and considered $1500 labor. Luckily problem has seemed to resolve with fluid change, they refunded my $ for transmission, only charged for fluid change. They were VERY good with communication, not up-selling, straight shooters. While they may charge a tad more than others, it is worth their quality and honesty any day! read more

I was in town for work. It was very cold out & I had been getting alerts of low tire pressures. I had stopped at 2 different gas stations to put air in and my tire pressures were going lower according to my car sensors. I was very frustrated and looked up an actual car/tire repair shop. I waited 30 min for them to open but the front desk person let some employees in when they arrived. I asked if I could get my tires checked. A gentleman clocked in early & resolved my problem. Update: Another mechanic is highly skeptical they did the work they charged me for. Do not recommend this place. Dropped vehicle off for check engine light. Allowed ~$1000 worth of work. After work, the issue seems worse than ever (engine studdering in addition to check engine light). Communication of initial work to be done was non-existent, just an online approval request. Overall I still have my same issue and $1000 less in my pocket (and need a car wash). read more

Avoid at all costs, called to ask when I should bring my Jeep in for a transmission fluid leak and slipping gears. The only communication I received was when I called them. 8 weeks yes 8 weeks later I finally got my Jeep back. Unfortunately it is shifting worse than when I dropped it off and now has a vibration at 70 mph which they said was my issue now even though it didn't have a vibration at drop off, I have gone back 3 times to the Homer st. Location no change in the way it drives trying to give them chances to fix it correctly. One stop at their holt location to have them tell me it's because of a bad oxygen sensor. Yes I have a rough idle that I'm working on but it's got nothing to do with the car not shifting right. 10 weeks total with out my Jeep and 3,000 dollars out of my pocket, just to have to look somewhere else for a correct repair. Your mileage may vary but this has been my experience here. read more

My son's truck developed transmission problems last week. He goes to MSU and we are in the Detroit area, which means I had no idea which shop would be best to handle this job. After reading a few online reviews, I gave A&J a shot. Boy, am I glad I did! After having a chance to inspect my son's truck (a 14 year old GMC), Alan called me with the bad news--a rebuild was needed. Alan took the time needed to explain what was needed, and when it would be done. He further explained the three year warranty that comes with the repair. He also noted that a power steering hose was leaking, which would ruin the new power steering pump installed by Bud Kouts Chevrolet just three months ago (I am disappointed Kouts did not replace this hose with the others, but that is another story). I had them replace that leaking hose. Candidly, I was apprehensive taking the truck to an independent shop in a town far from home. Alan and John were terrific to deal with and provided me with an excellent value with the repairs performed. While I hate having to pay someone else to do vehicle repairs, I will definitely send my son back to A&J if anything else happens while in the Lansing area. read more

Have had two great experiences at A&J recently. Several months ago my Saturn Vue (07) was starting out in third gear. Figured the worst and that I'd be looking at around $2-$3 thousand. The tech called to say he found the problem. Acorn shells next to chewed wires. Repairing that and checking everything else was a fraction of what I thought it was going to be. This week I took the same vehicle back after an independent shop (Eagle Automotive, North Muskegon) told me my rear differential fluid was low. They said they couldn't get the fluid for two days so I should go to a dealer to see if they'd top it off. I got into Betten Chevy in Muskegon and after having to wait two hours, was told my differential was going. They gave me a quote for $2200.00 for a USED unit as GM doesn't make this part anymore. I told them I wanted my car back. Drove back to Lansing and took it to A&J. Alan drove it, put it on the lift and told me "There's nothing wrong with the differential" He wouldn't take any money for the eval. It is REALLY hard to find an honest mechanic and my only hesitation recommending them is that they might get too swamped with work the next time I need something. Could not recommend more. read more
