Frank Is Still There!! A couple of years ago, Frank told me he would be retiring in the next calendar year. I took his word for it and didn't bother him for my auto repair needs earlier this year (2022). Then my every other year smog situation reared its ugly head, and I was faced with not passing--again. Mind you, my vehicle had passed with flying colors up until four years ago. Then Frank figured out it was a vacuum line. I believe I reviewed the situation then (2020). This time around, I had a feeling I wouldn't pass. The feeling was correct. My NO PPM values were way too high. I decided to take a chance and see who was currently at the helm of A & B. FRANK WAS THERE! I was beside myself with happiness to see him sitting behind the desk when I walked in. I reminded him of which vehicle I had and I told him I'd bring in the previous paperwork to job his memory. I won't go into all of the details in between as not everyone is a car nut like I am. Frank figured out it was the EGR valve that was throwing the NO readings off. He made time for me the following week when he could store the vehicle inside overnight. I brought it on a Tuesday and it was ready by Thursday afternoon. He even took it to get retested! There just doesn't exist this level of customer service in basically any business anymore. Frank is fair, has reasonable rates, and doesn't tell you tall tales. I hope he doesn't retire soon. He is such an asset to the community! Please tip him and his staff if you take your car there. I don't like to write negative reviews but when you go to a business expecting it to be 5 star quality service and end up having an experience that contradicts everything the previous reviews are saying about it makes you wonder if it's just because the people who didn't have a good experience just never shared their experiences. So I took my car in because my tires were starting to wobble causing the back end of my vehicle to fish tail at higher speeds. So I asked the owner what he would charge me to do some sort of safety check for my tires an told him what I was concerned about an why, I mentioned to him that I had a leak in the powersteering's pressure hose for some time now and if while he had it up there maybe he could replace the leaky hose with the one I had already purchased and left in the backseat. So then he tells me sure no problem, I said cool only if you got time though cause really the thing I'm most concerned about is whatever is going on with my tires. He told me okay okay $45 estimate and to go with one of his employees to drive up the road a little ways so he could get a feel for what I was saying was wrong with the tires. So okay we go for a test drive down the street turns out this guy hardly speaks any English and doesn't seem to understand when I said it really becomes noticeable when your going faster that 30mph. He tells his boss he didnt notice nothing wrong with the tires. I said I really would like to have the tires checked still. He said okay fine leave it overnight and he'll look at it when he can and will let me know tomorrow morning. Next day I come to pick it up he said not leaking power steering fluid anymore and he cleaned it all up from all the fluid that had been dripping all over the engine and underside of the car. Turns out he only cleaned the area where he had to attach the new hose to, which I could've overlooked but when I got back to take a look at the bill $275 none of which was for what I brought it in for in the first place. So when I asked him what about my tires.? He said he didn't notice anything wrong with them and he wasn't able to balance or align them or really anything with the tires because one of them was not the same brand..and sorry but he wasn't able to do anything with the tires until I got them all matching..so after driving it home still wobbly but not leaking anymore, I parked it and didn't drive it again for a couple days because I knew there was something wrong with my wheels..low an behold the next time I took it out on the same 25mph street the wobbling had gotten much much worse at speeds under the limit..now my back tire appears to be pointed at a very weird angle and I'm sure it's just waiting to fall completely off. So while I am ticked off the guy wasted my time and money on the less than immediate issue, my car doesn't leak anymore, but it also isn't going to be taking me anywhere anytime soon without the money to be able to fix the wheels... read more

I had a terrible experience at A&B auto Tech. The owner talked to me in a very demeaning manor. He was misogynistic and charged me $80.00 although no work had been done on the car not even a proper diagnostic. He grossly inflated the price over $1700.00. I took the car to another local shop and they did the work for under $400.00. They told me that they hear the same story over and over from this place. I think he did this because he saw that I am a woman. I hope things have changed, all I can say, everyday I drive pass this place and I still have feelings as I remember how he blocked my car in and told the other men around to keep me blocked until I paid. I tried to hand him the $80.00 in front of these men and he wouldn't take it until I threatened to call the police. It was horrible. read more

We have been going to A & B for years. Frank is so honest and what we like the best is that he does a great diagnosis/check of the car. Then he will recommend what must be fixed with a price upfront. If he finds out anything else while fixing the car, he will always call beforehand to let you know, and will not do any additional work without your ok. Also, he recommends only what needs to be repaired immediately and what can wait for later on. He is alway consistent in this way. Very knowledgeable. Absolutely the most honest and affordable repair shop I've been to. They do fantastic work for folks on a budget. Today I first went into a chain company shop to get a tire patched for a screw in it, and they were beyond rude, saying, " I can't fix this" insisting I needed to buy a brand new tire. I have a lot of experience with screws in tires and knew better. So I came to A and B's and they had it repaired within less than 10 minutes, AND charged me next to nothing. This is why I trust him- 1) He explained to me how he came to the conclusion of what the issue may be. He showed me a diagram of the steps he took to diagnose. He pointed out the parts to me under the hood so I get a better idea visually. 2) He does not do anything until he has your permission. 3) He showed me all the old parts he took out and showed me any cracks...etc. so you know he does not replace them unnecessarily. 4) He uses good parts of reputable brands and showed them to me and explained why he chose those. 5) His services are fairly priced. A couple of times the total came out a little short of what he originally quoted me. 6) He doesn't try to "upsell" you or do any work he doesn't think you need. He has customers from years and years ago I can see why they also trust his competency as well as honesty and sincerity. read more

Frank was recommended to me as a mechanic who has integrity, is honest to a fault and does things on a budget. I went to him for a full car service and because I was planning to take a long road trip with my teenage son. I ended up with a broken car in the middle of the freeway 10 days after his service. Frank's work nearly cost my life and that of my son. Thanks to my friends, AAA, and smart technology I was rescued from the freeway and brought safely to a Honda dealership in Southern CA. The car was showing a malfunctioning engine sign. The diagnostics revealed that the reason for it was the poorly replaced water pump. Apparently, Frank's shop ignored the necessary covering of the engine and car parts while replacing the pump and the fluid and coolant got onto the crankshaft sensor socket. Plugged into a dirty wet socket, the sensor corroded and started causing engine malfunction. It had to be replaced. For those who are curious about technical details, the crankshaft sensor monitors the crankshaft rotation and sends signals to your motor. It plays a role in the smooth and synchronized work of your engine and car acceleration; it is also responsible for sending a signal to start the car. Now imagine yourself in the middle of a 5 line freeway with an engine that acts crazy!!!!!!! The car sputters, jumps, the speed is out of your control and if the car stops you can't restart it. That's what I had to go through after Frank's full service. I nearly had an accident, spent three hours in a dealership in the middle of my trip, stressed out my family, spoiled my vacation, and had to deal with a bill from the dealership to fix the problem. Overall it was not cheap ($700 to Frank and another $700 at the dealership). The least I thought Frank would do for me being an honest man was to cover the repair bill. But all he had to say was that the dealership mechanics are liars and that the sensor corroded in a socket just because my car was old (not because it was flooded with the coolant and water pump fluids). Thanks for the integrity and professionalism! Also Frank did not replace a broken engine mount (this is one of the cost savings techniques I guess) and did not change the oil in my car as part of his maintenance service (another "cost saving"). If you want to get good and honest service this would not be at Frank's shop. A good mechanic is hard to find and I think a lot of people would sympathize with that. read more

Horrible service! my mom took her 2004 Honda civic to get repaired due to car kicking every time you hit the gas pedal and it over heats every time , frank told her there is nothing wrong with her car that it is just old. two days later the car stop working. took it to a different mechanic and they told her the gasket blew and also her catalytic converter wasn't working properly.
