Herbert is my hero. He took a ride in my car, told me about other similar customers who have come in with the same issue, told me which sounds are weird or concerning and which sounds are normal, which I greatly appreciated, and gave me a great lunch recommendation down the street while I waited for him to take care of my car. During the entire interaction, a very clear picture of Herbert's values came into focus: he is where customers come when they feel like the dealership or another mechanic isn't being totally honest or if they are overcharging. If Herbert doesn't have the tools, he'll refer you to a specialist or the dealer and I could tell that he's very hesitant to invite you to get service or work done that's not in your best interest. He speaks at LEAST three languages and is a trusted ambassador of different communities in town. I felt more and more at ease as he told me about what he recommended. Later, after the work was done, he gave me a somewhat deservedly stern warning about how I hadn't changed my oil in a long time , and we went under the lift together so he could point out everything that he and the team worked on. He gave me a brief schedule of when he recommends next services and told me what he could do vs. what other places would be more equipped for. Finally, I went into his office to pay my invoice and it was a laughably small amount. Like 1/3rd of what I was expecting and what I remember paying for elsewhere for the same services a couple years ago. As long as I am in the East bay, I will trust nobody else with my vehicle. I came down to TKs for some serious work on my 18 Camry, with front end damage that insurance couldn't cover. Herbert went above and beyond my expectations. He was accommodating, extremely communicative, and brought my car back to incredible condition. He and the crew at TK Auto know what they are doing. They worked with me to find all the best options and to make this project doable. They replaced 2 fenders, bumper, headlamps, and repaired my undercarriage. They made sure to ask me about options and were able to save parts (which saved me money). So basically I got a quote from a nearby auto place for a minor car repair and was bummed out by the 4 figure price tag. I came to TK and was told the same work would be done for less than $200. Quality of work is still definitely 10/10 so your not getting cheap service at all. Customer service 11/10. I told the owner I had errands to run, but I was willing to wait. He had time for me the day I got an estimate. He personally picked up the parts because of manufacturer delays and had it done 3 hours before ETA. As you can imagine I was extremely delighted. This is the type of place I would recommend to go to because I feel it's ran by honest gentleman who aren't just about a buck. I don't even live in El Cerrito, but I drove all the way out there to get my brakes worked on, because the reviews were so good. I called two different places near me and was quoted $300 or more per break. I could tell from the start that Herbert was an honest man. He ordered my parts ahead of time, so they'd be ready to install when I arrived. He took the time to show me what brake pads look like and showed samples of the different stages of wear and tear. Man David and his wife are one of the nicest auto repair shop owners I've met! I had to have my car towed here and the tow truck took forever to arrive! (You know what I mean if you've ever had "one of those" experiences with AAA.). Anyway, by the time I got it towed it was already almost 4:30pm and they close at 5pm! I was sure I was in for a carless weekend. But David confirmed a bad starter and assured me it was a very fast fix and that they could do it that evening! I was referred by my friend who has been a long time customer to this service shop when I had 2 relatively deep scratch on my 2010 sedan which was pretty new. I got quotes from numerous competitors and David (the owner) came back with the lowest price and earliest completion date. I knew David would do a great job given this was a reference from one of my best friends, but after the vehicle was returned to me I couldn't believe it. It was almost miraculous. This place used to be a great value and quality work but after the new owner change, it has gone down hill. I like to support local businesses but this place is robbing their customers. I had many cars worked on here and recently had a van lid repaired. It was clearly repairable but they wanted to order new parts so I did. When we came to pick up van we asked to see old trunk lid, which is they couldn't show meaning they just repaired old part. Paint match was off and rear window was installed with a huge gap on one side. Came back to them and they would not fix it. Came back to get some help to fix it and they wanted to charge me for their few minutes of talking time. Bad business behavior! read more

I took my 1998 Subaru Forester there because I was having problems with my power steering and the owner told not to fix it and to drive it as is. What a load of crap. I was referred to this shop by my friend. I've since sold my Forester since it would have failed smog because the check engine light was on and it had 200,000 plus miles on it. I didn't want to invest any more money into it. Also I took my 2000 Toyota Camry there because I had broke one of the mounting and scuffed up the passenger mirror. I wanted it replaced but the owner told me it would be $ 100 just to replace it and said to use it as is. He said just save your money I'm going to install the side view mirror my self and save money. I would not recommend not taking your cars to this shop. It's time for me to find another mechanic and or do some the easy fixes myself. read more

not honest. I replaced my transmission oil there once. The oil is still as dirty as before. They trick they use is that they told you the replacement take 2 hours and ask you to come back in 2 hours. You do no know how much oil is replaced. Stay away from that couple. Not honest at all! read more
