I couldn't wait to get out of this place after they raised my rent by 25%. I was paying $350 for a…read more10 x 7 unit that I had for the past 12 years. If I wanted to rent that same until from the same place, it was probably about $150 a month after they added the required insurance, taxes and fees. So instead of keeping a long time customer, I moved out and went somewhere else where I'm paying less than 1/2 for a bigger unit. The other issue with this place is that there are only two carts so if you get there on a busy day you better bring your own. At the new one I go to there are 4 carts and the place is not as big. Oh and no bathrooms -- those are gone now.

Rented a large storage unit here for 2 years. Rate was doubled after just a few months in. Decided…read moreto leave items there due to hassle of moving. Informed manager Jose that I would be moving out and stopped my autopay. He saw the movers emptying out our unit. Unfortunately our movers neglected to remove the lock. When the company did not receive payment on the 3rd of the following month, Jose called. I informed him we moved 2 weeks prior- as he witnessed. He said the move out isn't complete until lock removed. We removed the lock the very next day (6/4). Offered to pay the 4 days only, instead of the entire month. Jose said that was against policy. Heard nothing back after that until 10 weeks later when I received a letter from a debt collector. Shame on Public Storage for the bait and switch after 3 months doubling rates, for witnessing a move out but only calling to confirm after next month payment due, and for the inflexibility with prorating due to customer error. Spent over $15,000 with them. Trust me. Choose wisely. Go elsewhere.

Also most interactions have to be done on-line as they no longer post office hours at that location. In summary this is a clean and safe facility that is also now expensive and mostly self service.

Today, I lost my storage unit virginity. And I'm sure glad it was with this place!…read more First, I have to say that I knew exactly which storage spot to take my stuff. Yes, this place is literally located on the street I live on, but that's not why. No, the truth is that I wanted to support this Public Storage spot because of the effort that was clearly put in to making it look great on the street. The facade on Mills (yes, right up to the street *the urban planning nerd in me squeals with delight!*) is actually very pretty, with faux second story windows and attractive trim. I mentioned it to the manager, Laura, and she said that they definitely made an effort to make it blend in with the pretty, ornate homes in the neighborhood. Remember- this is a storage place! I'm used to rows of ugly, one story, garage-looking buildings and here is a multi-story building, with rear parking, that takes the neighborhood design context into account. UM, am I dreaming?!? OK, I'll move on. Laura, whom I mentioned during my nerdy digression, was extremely friendly and made sure that I not only had a first-story unit, but that it was close to the front (I'm tiny and looked ridiculous carrying all of my boxes in). The only things to keep in mind are that 1- you are required to get insurance on the storage unit totaling a minimum of $11/month in addition to the rental rate, and 2- there's a 'merchandise' total of $19.16 added for the lock and key (I didn't realize that this would be an additional fee) and an admin fee of $23.43.

However, I want to note that SERVICE was 5 stars and that's really what matters! What I got: one zippy shell, delivered in East Orlando, pickup next day. Stored at their facility for 3 weeks then delivered to Winter Garden and picked up empty same day. Pros: - Got to deal directly with the owner. Don't call the zippy shell sales center, they will HOUND you. Just call the local number from Google and deal with Evan. He's great! - Customer service is awesome. Evan just wants to make customers happy and likes what he does. He will go out of his way to accommodate. - You're working with and dealing with a real, local person, not someone at a call center. There's nothing that can replace the personal interaction you have with a small business owner and knowing you're supporting someone doing honest work. - Cheaper than any of the other pod companies and very fair timelines and guidelines. Saved over $100 on my move by going this route. - Don't have to worry about your stuff being stored in a field. I've heard horror stories about people getting back bug-infested pods that were stored outdoors. Zippy shells go to a climate controlled warehouse, or so they say. - Able to work with your schedule and do same day drop off/pick up at no charge. Pods wanted to charge me an extra $100 for same day, something I couldn't control because my condo didn't allow pods to be left overnight. Cons: - Stuff is not in a self-contained pod, but in a metal cage. I was a little skeptical at first because I was concerned about rodents, insects, and humidity. I had to do more work to protect my items like laying sheets on the furniture and double taping boxes just because I didn't know what kind of conditions the shell could be exposed to. - Contents of the pod shifted a LOT - I can only assume because you don't have the stability of a pod/truck attached to the frame that it's moving on but rather the pod is being towed on a trailer behind the vehicle. Luckily we didn't experience any breakage, but lots of squished, toppled over boxes and one damaged decoration that we probably could have secured better. - Almost had an issue where we weren't able to get our pod delivered to us the day we requested. We called on a Tuesday and needed it that Friday, and we thought we only needed to provide 48 hour notice. However, Evan saved the day and was able to get things shuffled around and squeezed us in. But worrying about this kind of thing sucks. - Drivers need a lot of space to back the zippy shell trail into your loading area. Left tracks in our lawn from where the trailer was, and was tough to park in our condo parking lot.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Absolutely do not use this company if you want your pod to arrive…read morewhen they tell you it will. I had a lovely experience while getting my quote and great customer service, unfortunately that's as far as their good service goes. Once you book with them expect only a terrible experience after that. When I booked with them my pod was supposed to arrive on 6/13, it never arrived and they never contacted me. I had to call them where they told me it was delayed to 6/16. It then never arrived with no update so I had to call again where they told me my pod was still in the original facility and had still not been picked up after being there since 6/2. After three more phone calls and three more delays with no update, it still has not been picked up from the original facility. My agreement says delivery within 8-10 days, and we are now going on 20 days since it was picked up from my original location. I would spend the extra money on a different company or drive a U-Haul truck to your destination before using this company. They barely offer any compensation and it is only for "miscommunication".
