    My partner needed to find a storage unit. We searched all over and found A1 Storage. They were the most inexpensive for the largest amount of space. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Location is convenient.

    Renting a unit was quick and easy. I opted for the web special unit (5x5) to store miscellaneous items from a spare bedroom. It's located on the 2nd floor not too far from the elevator. They have little carts that you can transport your items to the unit. You need a code to get inside the building as well as get into the elevator which is an added security in case I have to go alone. Lena (not sure of the spelling) was a sweetheart when I went to finalize the rental and purchase a lock. She was courteous, friendly, and professional.

    I was in need of a storage and this was my first time getting one. I came across this place on yelp and so glad I did. I suggest coming into the location as the call center had a different price. Nae was so helpful she answered all my questions showed me around. Best way to access my storage. The place is so clean. I also love that they have flat beds. You have a personal pin so noone should be able to access a floor that they are not on. The first month was free but you do have to pay the admin fee, insurance and lock. So far so good.

    So far so good! Everyone is very nice and the facilities are very clean. There are a ton of units and it was easy to book one.

    We left our stuff in there after moving and when we finally went to check on it, it was completely…read moreinfested with rats and all our belongings were covered in rat poop and piss and the boxes were all torn into. On top of it getting charged so much for this to happen?? And when we brought it up we got told "oh yes we're near an area where there's a lot of rats" OK??? Maybe mention that???? Do not leave your stuff here. There's rat traps all around as well, I don't know how we missed this. Oh AND they charged us more without informing us.

    HORRENDOUS Experience at Extra Space on Clement in Alameda…read more My experience at this location was frustrating from start to finish. The office was locked during working business hours, and I left several voicemails over time -- none of which were ever returned or followed up on. Anytime I needed help with billing, gate codes, or basic questions, there was simply no one available. I even tried using their online live chat, and after explaining my issue, I was given a gate code -- but the agent told me they weren't sure it was going to work. That sums up the level of care and confidence they provide: guesswork. Even basic conveniences were missing -- there was no access to recycling or trash disposal, so I had to take all my unused boxes and even trash from cleaning up rat droppings back home to throw away. There was also no bathroom available for tenant use -- a basic necessity that was completely overlooked. For a paid facility, that level of neglect is unacceptable. Worse, my unit (#907) was physically unsafe. The door malfunctioned regularly and fell on my head multiple times. I even had to crawl into the unit at one point to fix a jammed door on my own. When my father was helping me take things to the Salvation Army, the gate code wasn't working, which delayed my moving-out process and added unnecessary stress. Other serious issues included: A rent increase without any notice The facility called the police on me without justification -- though the officers and I had a good laugh about it afterward, and I even got the officer's number so I could call them directly if I had more gate code issues. A rat infestation that affected my unit and others -- and when I reported it, staff ignored the issue entirely. The unit was filthy, with rat droppings inside, and it was clear that maintenance and sanitation were not a priority. Most of the staff were rude, unresponsive, or simply absent, though I do want to acknowledge Riley, who was the only team member that was helpful and professional. Between the unsafe conditions, lack of communication, zero accountability, and completely unreliable customer service, I strongly urge others to avoid this location. I've since moved to Public Storage, and the difference has been like night and day. If you choose to rent here, make sure you're insured -- and be prepared to handle everything on your own.

    EDIT: Emily, the number you gave me just goes to my local facility. They wouldn't help me…read morepreviously and they have not returned my calls. THEFT/BREAK-IN My storage space was broken into earlier this year. Items were stolen. Other storage spaces near me were also pried open. Even though there were locks on the doors, the metal doors are soft enough that someone could use a crowbar to pry it open and get in. When I asked them what they could do about it, she said if I wanted, I could move to a different unit. But there's nothing any safer about the other units. I was also told that I needed to file a police report in order to file a claim no for the insurance, but actually no police claim was required. FIRE 2 weeks ago there was a fire at the storage facility. I received an email saying there was no access until further notice. I called right away to find out if my unit was affected, and they said It was not. I have been waiting for the past 2 weeks for the space to be open again. I finally received an email today saying that there was now access to the facility. I called to find out if next month would be pro-rated since I wasn't able to access my space for 2 weeks. They said "no", because there had been access, they just didn't bother to email customers to let them know. They said I should have known that it was open. I'm beyond frustrated with them
